Hi all,

I'm going to start Keto again tomorrow. Tried for the first time a few weeks ago but felt dreadful after a week so I fell off the wagon - combo of Keto flu and period I think.

Anyone else venturing into Keto and fancy some support?

Hi all, feeling a little disappointed that after 3 weeks I've only lost 3lbs although measurements are down a couple of inches! I don't think that I'm getting enough fat into my diet - any tips?
I have double cream in my coffee and for pud in one shape or form and cook almost everything in butter. How can I add more fat to my meals?
I eat tinned mackerel/tuna or chicken with salad and dressing for lunch along with a greek yoghurt with a sprinlkle of berries and one or two cheese triangles or a small lump of cheddar and for dinner meat/fish with fried/scrambled eggs, or 'allowed' veg. Sometimes I make a curry with a tin of coconut milk. I struggle for desserts (currently have cream and strawberries or I made a cream and coconut ice cream which is 'ok' - don't like the fat balls)!
Thanks everyone :)

I ran the gauntlet and ate "normal" food yesterday on a trip. Bread was involved (I ate half a piece and left it), booze, ice-cream and lots of sugar. Gained a 1lb when I got home but just used a ketostick (have been clean fasting since about midnight last night) and it's still detecting ketones. Have I dodged the bullet do you think!? When I first started I had no keto flu or anything. I won't make a habit of it but a bit mystified how I've managed to potentially dodge it. Shock

Fred's mum I started a thread on this because I don't eat dairy so I'm really struggling to get enough fat into my food, without Also adding protein or carbs- without basically eating oil. This week (since Sunday) I've stuck to less than 20g carbs, but I've exceeded the recommended protein amount and had far less than the recommended fat (eg 60-70 g less that my app suggests)- however, I've lost 7.5lbs (which I was quite surprised at as I'm at the end of my weightloss journey and quite muscular so don't really have much fat to lose and probably very little visceral fat). I haven't actually been in ketosis when I've checked either.

I've read quite a lot about the protein/fat balance and can't work out which opinion to believe tbh. My results would suggest that it's not 100% essential to get all that fat in (provided you're not feeling hungry and are losing weight) but the experts will tell you otherwise. (My weightloss isn't completely just down to calorie restriction either, as I've been having 1400-1500 a day, so it must come from cutting the carbs down so low)

I know that's not exactly helpful but it will be interesting to see if others have more advice...!

This is my thread Fred

Getting fats in to a low carb diet http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/lowcarbb_bootcamp/3643682-getting-fats-in-to-a-low-carb-diet

Thanks @newaveragebear1983 but I can't see any other Keto threads? Am I looking in this section?

Have got the idea with macros now thank you. Eaten two meals today:

Scrambled Eggs, feta, tomatoes which was delicious

Late lunch /dinner rib eye steak with spinach and a drizzle of cream and a few tomatoes.

Totally yummy day and 888 calories! Feeling a bit headachey and have drunk a ton of water.

Joined diet doctor too so going to try and meal plan as much as I can...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2019 18:38

I think they are either in the Low carb diets section or the low carb bootcamp section (although the bootcamp is a specific diet plan, whereas the low carb section is more general)

Anyone still on this thread? I started low carbing on Saturday and just getting into it really. Aim is 1 stone - anything above that would be an unexpected bonus. I cook as normal for the three of us (hungry teens!) and I avoid pasta, potatoes, rice etc. - breakfast and lunch is eggs, fish, salad, vegetables. Not sure about Greek yoghurt?

supercee · 20/08/2019 20:18

I've started (again) yesterday but refusing to stress myself out about macros. Aiming to stick to around 20g of carbs a day and no food until lunch, though I do have a tassimo machine cappuccino (factoring in the 1.8g carbs).

I've lost a bit in the past low carbing so I know why foods are fine (and not) it's just the sticking to it and the demon wine that I have to battle. A stone would be great for me too, anything else a lovely bonus!

supercee · 20/08/2019 20:20

Oh and for Greek Yoghurt, I think the Total stuff is fine. Just look at the carb amounts. I aim for anything under 4/5g per 100g.

FishGingers · 21/08/2019 00:06

Thank you supercee I blundered on with my dieting attempts and have downloaded some apps to help me navigate the low carb maze! Will avoid bananas for sure! I went way over the recommended amount with over 60g of carbs, so have to plan differently tomorrow!

Good luck to you and let me know how you get on!

Dulcedelecherocks · 31/08/2019 18:05

Hello, I also restarted Keto this week.
I have done it for a while before with great success, but have been quite unwell for the last 18 months and a combination of steroids, chemo and anti depressants have caused me to gain 3 stone. I'm now on the other side of if and need to start again.

I am aiming to do IF but this week I've only managed it twice. I'm snacking on nuts a lot which I know is not ideal and I'm hoping my appetite will decrease and the snacking will stop.

So I've given up alcohol and all processed carbs. Have been eating veg, cheese, nuts, white meat and fish (don't eat much red meat) and fat.

I'll check my weight on Monday to see how my first week goes. Wish me luck :)

FishGingers · 02/09/2019 15:48

Good luck!

I am starving and not achieved any visible success yet :-(

But I realise this is definitely a healthier way forward and I’ll continue.

Today I had 200g Greek yoghurt, 2 eggs, I avocado and mixed leaves lettuce with some olive oil.

Dulcedelecherocks · 02/09/2019 21:01

Thank you. Sounds like you had a good day.

I've lost 3lbs which is not a lot for a first week but it's a step in the right direction I guess. I've also fasted for 19 hours today so was happy about that.

Today I've had palm heart noodles with cream and salmon eggs (bloody expensive but awesome), then some peanuts for a snack and chicken and veg for dinner. No cheat today. I feel motivated. Let's see how the week goes.

How's everyone else doing?

Missdeemeenor · 06/10/2019 10:50

Quick question...
Been on keto for 5 weeks and have not lost ANY weight.
I have just been diagnosed with a very underactive thyroid and my Gp is currently trying to get the balance of meds right.
Am also very menopausal and on anti depressants.
Ive been really strict about not eating carbs but when I read other people's success stories I wonder where I'm going wrong.
Could the thyroid condition and meds affect the ability to lose weight?

Iamdobby63 · 10/10/2019 18:32

Yes all those things could affect weight loss. I’m surprised you haven’t lost any weight though. Why don’t you post a typical days menu and we can take a look.

I follow Atkins, high fat, moderate protein, low carb. Everyone has a different level on how many carbs they can tolerate, mine is low now I’m menopausal.

Hi is anyone still reading this thread? I’m starting keto after a wedding next weekend (don’t want to in the throes of keto flu for the wedding!) I’m really nervous about starting it but I have 5 stone to lose so need to do something drastic!

Amandasummers · 04/11/2021 19:00

Hi all, I need a change and am planning to start keto but am overwhelmed by info and don’t know where to begin!

I’ve tried to work out my macros but I’ve no idea where to go from there….how do I work out what to eat based on what percentage of fats/protein/carbs out of my calorie allowance?! I’m so confused and don’t want to fall at the first hurdle! Would appreciate any advice!

TenPenceMix · 13/11/2021 23:16

How are you finding it @Amandasummers

Amandasummers · 14/11/2021 06:37

@TenPenceMix I’m not sure? I’ve survived the week, but it won’t be possible to make this my way of life because I don’t like most of the foods allowed lol. I can’t get my fat intake up enough, so not sure I will go into ketosis? But either way I have lost some weight already although I know it’s only water!

TenPenceMix · 15/11/2021 13:00

Ah that's a shame as it's such a good lifestyle! First week is the hardest though so well done!

backtolifebacktoreality · 07/12/2021 15:03

Do you have to drink lots of water to keep you hydrated or is it for weight loss?
