Hi all,

I'm going to start Keto again tomorrow. Tried for the first time a few weeks ago but felt dreadful after a week so I fell off the wagon - combo of Keto flu and period I think.

Anyone else venturing into Keto and fancy some support?

Sorry, novice here! Is keto very different to cutting out all complex carbohydrates? Currently I usually have eggs in the morning, snack on nuts or paleo crackers with avocado, dinner is meat, with veges and fat of some sort. I’ve recently stopped eating bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, kumara etc.

I'm day 5 in on Keto and I feel terrible. K-flu symptoms started yesterday - sweaty and greasy skin, aching all over. Determined to dig deep though.

I started this week, think I'm thru the worst of the keto flu now. The headaches have stopped, hooray!

I'm aiming for 25g carbs per day, give or take. Using MFP to tally it all up.

Thankfully I discovered how to calculate net carbs for vegetables. I was really confused about how people were eating heaps of veges and apparently staying under 10g carbs a day. My body is much happier with veges.

I've lost 3.6kg since Monday, mostly water but my fat jeans are falling down today, so that must mean something is working.

I don't feel I've lost anything. I am weeing an awful lot though. Had the worst cramp in both calf muscles in the night so need to up my sodium perhaps?

How do you figure out your net carbs with veggies?

I found a sugar-free electrolyte water helped heaps. It was Gatorade brand, but I'm in Aus.

Net carbs are the carb grams minus the fibre grams. Apparently packaged food labels already do this in Aus, so our carbs are net carbs. But when using MFP calculations (mostly US based), you can do some mental arithmetic to figure it out. Exhausting!

I'm eating this Greek yoghurt for a mid morning snack and the raspberries (approx 10) are helping. I eat about 2 tablespoonfulls. Is this ok? (See pic)

Full fat greek yogurt is the way to go. This is what I have with some Chia seeds. Remember o only eat when genuinely hungry on Keto and not by the clock. Wink

Price on Chia seeds too although I passed them by today. Do you just stir them in?! How many??!

I don't feel I've lost ANYTHING. Weighing tomorrow - first week. Really apprehensive.

Week 1 of KETO done. Weighed this morning and I've lost 6lbs. I can't see it nor feel it though. Determined 2nd week coming up though.

Can I join? Managed two weeks on keto before a craving for an Easter egg sent me on a wild two week spiral.

I found 20g a bit difficult at time, so may go a bit over as I did miss colourful veg. But I really did drop size quickly in the two weeks

Back to it from tomorrow. Would really love the support

I have keto flu and I can't sleep. Also feel nauseous, and I want to read but I can't concentrate.

I know it will all be worth it in a few days and I will feel great but sheesh, I could cry right now.

I don’t know how being keto and vegan can marry up, but I don’t think it’s impossible. I would say that Pinterest would be your best source for recipes @ahtellthee. I know that not all tofus are the same when it comes to carb content as a lot of soy milk has sugar added, so you will have to read labels every time. Also, the protein content is not that high, so you may have to resort to shakes with vegan protein powder added as well. (Blech!)

I used to watch Dr Eric Berg’s videos, but he’s a chiropractor who seems to have gone a bit off piste and is now claiming that keto cures everything from diabetes to cancer. His keto “how to’s” are useful, but I find his health advice rather spurious.

I don't like the woo stuff either, just. I wish people would stick to the science, or as much of it as we have good evidence for at this stage.

I don't think it's possible to have a healthy ketogenic vegan diet. I couldn't find a way to make it work, anyway, and I tried hard.

I lost a lot of weight on the “All you can eat bacon/high fat/protein kinda keto diet” but my hair fell out in chunks eventually because I was also nutrient deficient. Eric Berg’s version of intermittent fasting and including more veg and lowering protein improved things no end. It stopped a stall dramatically and my weight loss has continued, my energy levels have improved and my hair has started to re-grow. Oh, and my skin is fab. I skip his health guru stuff and wouldn’t consider buying his supplements. (Plus I live in Australia and they would cost an arm and a leg in postage wouldn’t get through customs anyway!) I have lost nearly 60kgs and kept it off. (I cheat only when out with the girls - rare as I am studying ft and have 3 dc to juggle. One or two cocktails are worth it!)

I am trying hard, living on mushrooms, semi dried tomatoes, five seed crackers and celery atm! But I have ordered books which will arrive with my mum next week

ahtellthee I had Thai green curry last night and it would have been vegan if it hadn't fried the veg in butter. Just vegetables, curry paste, and coconut milk. One idea for you?

Had my second weigh in this morning. I've only dropped a pound so I'm a bit gutted. I've definitely been in ketosis too (sticks) so am a bit confused.

Coke Zero has no carbs, protein, or fat, so won't have affected ketosis or weight loss. There's a lot of fearmongering about artificial sweeteners but real science shows they're fine.

A pound in a week (?) is fine. Don't be discouraged!
