Hi all,

I'm going to start Keto again tomorrow. Tried for the first time a few weeks ago but felt dreadful after a week so I fell off the wagon - combo of Keto flu and period I think.

Anyone else venturing into Keto and fancy some support?

Finally managed to get hold of some keto strips. I went to a couple of local chemists (support local and all) and they wouldn't sell them to me... despite having Atkins bars to buy. Confused

I'm in "small" ketosis which is yay and means the illicit kit kat I had yesterday hasn't knocked me out. Grin

cheesenpickles · 19/06/2019 16:05

@BishopBrennansArse are you taking measurements as well? It could be the scales aren't moving but your body might still be?

BishopBrennansArse · 19/06/2019 16:28

I did to start with but latterly haven't bothered Blush

cheesenpickles · 19/06/2019 17:07

Maybe give yourself a measure and compare to when you first started for a bit of a boost. The scales have only crept slightly for me this week but I've lost on my measurements.

Snausage · 24/06/2019 09:54

I started keto on Saturday and am feeling alright at the moment. A bit on edge, waiting for keto flu to kick in! My brother has been on keto for just over a year and has lost a HUGE amount of weight and inspired me to start.

I have struggled with my weight since childhood; I had success with SW some years ago but have been unable to get back in to it despite various attempts. I know that keto is not going to be something I can follow forever, but I'm hoping for a good kickstart and will do my best to stick to it for for as long as possible!

I'm bumbling along this week with cheese and meat but will be able to do a proper plan and shop accordingly over the weekend. I have next week off so am going to be able to batch cook!

I am weighing myself once a week, mainly because my floors are so uneven that I have never been able to get an accurate reading, so I'll either weigh in at my mum's or at Boots.

Tinkerbellx · 24/06/2019 12:54

Hi may I join please ?
I tried this a couple of weeks ago but am sure I didn't get into ketosis.

My main problem is time .
Am a single parent and work full time and commute a kit too .
I literally collapse into bed at 10 pm at the moment bushed and don't have enough time for anything that's not necessary , so any tips on maybe an easy budget first meal plan week to follow would be great ?
I've tried quite a few apps but they all want a payment to sign up .

Any free app recommendations or books round be great .
TIAx

cheesenpickles · 25/06/2019 10:38

@Tinkerbellx I really rate the recipes on Dietdoctor.com.

Snausage · 25/06/2019 19:18

@Tinkerbellx I second the recipes on Diet Doctor! Have only tried a couple so far because I'm not going to have a chance to get to the supermarket until the weekend so am putting butter on my broccoli, having chicken thighs, (skin on! This is alien to me!) sausages (97% pork so very low carb) and cheese. I need to recipe plan and cook proper food though, as this is only sustainable for a few days.

May I suggest you get yourself some ketone pee sticks? I got mine from Amazon and found I was in ketosis after less than 2 days. I quite look forward to getting home from work (also full time with a hefty commute!) and peeing on a stick.

cheesenpickles · 26/06/2019 12:50

Kids have nagged me to take them to Greggs. I'm sat here with my black coffee but it smells SO GOOD. Envy

MaidenMotherCrone · 27/06/2019 12:50

Hi can I join too?

I did it for a month last year and lost a stone for my wedding.

This time I'm doing on my doctors advice as have a family history of stroke.

Day 4 for me, yesterday was difficult as I spent most of confused and exhausted which isn't great when you are at work.

Anyhow, today feeling better so that's good.

I use the free Keto app. It's tracks everything for you. No trying to work it out. I'm doing 16/8 at the same time which works well for me. I only eat twice a day.
I plan for the day and just enter everything at the same time. Really easy.

Hurrah for avocados, celery and Philadelphia
💪🏻 .

May I join, please? I started keto a month ago and I'm using Carb Manager (the free version) to track my macros.

They are:

20 net grams of carb
65 grams protein
130 grams fat

So far, I'm finding it rather easy but I have not lost much weight. 6lbs so far.

The most difficult thing for me has been giving up diet drinks

cheesenpickles · 30/06/2019 12:03

@Riverviews I feel you with the diet drinks. I've still had a couple but the craving for them has really eased off thankfully.

Six lbs is good going. I know that a lot of people have huge losses at first but slow and steady wins the race and is more likely to stay off in the long run. Also, find something that weighs the equivalent to what you've lost. Just short of three kilo bags of sugar. Not a small amount by any means either. Also try measuring yourself. You'll be surprised at how much drops off there when the scales don't show it.

Riverviews · 30/06/2019 16:06

Thanks cheesen. I must say that out of all the diets I've ever done, this is the one that I can see I can stick to. I've been out for dinner a few times and I've never been confronted with one of those menus where there's simply nothing you can eat.

I plan my day ahead in the app and I rarely struggle with my macros. So far so good

cheesenpickles · 30/06/2019 16:36

That's brilliant. I've not had too many eating out issues and have done a few BBQs where I've come away stuffed. Grin

I eat out a lot for my job so I may have to do a bit of cyclical keto fit that but I think my carb tolerance is quite high. Went up to 50g one day and managed to stay in ketosis.

I'm doing it with intermittent fasting as well and pretty much on one meal a day but def make it count. Just had an early dinner of buttery scrambled eggs, bacon, halloumi and half an avacado. So yummy and only 2g of carbs. Woohoo.

MaidenMotherCrone · 01/07/2019 05:18

First week completed and 5lb gone. Very happy indeed.

cheesenpickles · 01/07/2019 07:14

Woohoo! That's brilliant @MaidenMotherCrone

Riverviews · 01/07/2019 13:22

Well done!

Snausage · 01/07/2019 22:26

My first keto week ended yesterday and I lost 8lb! Haven't been struck by keto flu and have honestly not felt this energetic in years. I have, however, developed a bit of an obsession with peeing on a stick to confirm I'm still in ketosis. Hopefully that'll die down.

Fredsmum82 · 05/07/2019 08:29

Hi, new to Keto (3rd day). Don't normally eat breakfast so finding it hard but know I must to keep full until lunch! I've been having scrambled egg made with double cream - yum - but already getting slightly bored with that. Don't like avocados and am on a budget - has anyone got any other quick and cheap filling breakfasts?! Tia

Snausage · 05/07/2019 09:20

Hi @Fredsmum82! I've never been much of a breakfast eater and that hasn't changed since starting keto a couple of weeks ago. Without knowing it I've been intermittent fasting (either 16:8 or 18:6, depending on the day). I find that dinner keeps me full until at least mid morning and then I just push through til lunchtime.

However, on keto it's about eating when you're hungry! If you're not hungry til mid-morning/midday don't eat until then. I like to make egg muffins with different fillings (this week it was leftover gammon and mushrooms cooked in butter, today I'm making a new batch with leftover chicken and spinach). They're really easy to cook in bulk and have in the fridge to grab and go. There are recipes for keto granola if that's your jam, or you could make keto pancakes (using almond flour) in bulk and keep them in the fridge. Boiled eggs are another good one, especially with some spinach cooked in butter. Or frittata; again, you can use any leftover meat/low carb veg to put in it, and you can keep that in the fridge. Then there's always full fat Greek yoghurt with a handful of berries for something that's not cooked. If using yoghurt, be careful to look at the carb content: not all are equal!

I'm coming to the end of week 2 and, touch wood, have not experienced keto flu. I take a multivitamin every morning, drink loads of water and make sure I use plenty of salt!

Good luck on your journey!

cheesenpickles · 05/07/2019 13:40

I've been gifted a heavy duty tub of collagen so going to start adding this into some of my drinks. Apparently it's really good for preventing loose skin during weight loss.

Fredsmum82 · 05/07/2019 21:34

Thanks @Snausage! Some great ideas - will look at muffin recipes tomorrow Smile

mooncuplanding · 05/07/2019 21:43

Hi fellow keto’ers

I’ve been keto for 2 years and it’s so exciting to see people join the club

The stall is really common after a few weeks but I guarantee you’ll be healing your body and losing that visceral fat (that stuff they talk about around your organs) and your body composition will change so DO YOUR MEASUREMENTS even if the scales have stalled....you’ll be amazed at how the scales don’t reflect your measurements

cheesenpickles · 05/07/2019 22:10

Wahhh. I've been so good and sub 20g and today I've been to a work thing and been forced off the wagon. 100g of carbs Confused it's dc's birthday tomorrow as well so cake to boot. I'll be intermittent fasting as well so hopefully won't take too long to get back into ketosis again. So cross with myself. Still around 1200 calories though at least.

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 07/07/2019 23:17

Started yesterday and I'm using my fit bit tracker which has a lovely graph breakdown of macros.

Managed to smash it yesterday but today I had to satisfy the horrible Keto flu carb cravings with fathead pizza and peanut butter cheesecake bites so my food intake has been fab within Keto limits bit I'm not convinced the 3000 calories I've scoffed will help me lose weight!

Lay in bed feeling utterly crap with a sharp Keto flu headache and just feeling meh.
