Back on low carb, anyone want to join me?

I lost all my excess weight two years LCHFing. It's crept back on over the past year as ive reaching for the frackers, been, eating the kids chips etc. Carb creep and not tracking...means I'm 15lbs over where I like to be ☹️

So, I need to reboot.

I've started tracking today. My aim is to have less than thirty grams carbs a day...

I am armed with double cream, babybel and dark chocolate.

Anyone want to join me?

Fat intake, not intact. Obviously.

50 I’m confused about net carbs, I read somewhere that British food labelling already deducts the fibre when it gives the carb amounts so it’s only polyoils etc that should be taken off. Unless you’re in the US?

I have read about the protein being too high. But I really don't think it's high enough to be an issue from what I've read?

I obviously haven't got my amounts of fat and protein right yet though. I wonder if I cut the protein a bit and try more fat?

I wouldn't mind but I've got loads to lose Angry

Yes, agree about net carbs.

How do you adjust for that if needed?

50andgoingstrong · 07/05/2018 22:08

Oh no have I been doing it wrong?

I use MFP and just look at the totals. So if I have 30g carbs and 5g of fibre I would say 25g total carbs that day.

OP posts:
BangingOn · 08/05/2018 06:48

I don’t know 50, I suppose it depends whether MFP uses US or U.K. nutritional values. If you Google there are several articles that tell you not to do it with U.K. labelling. This one explains it better:

I don't think it matters too much does it? If you're in ketosis and losing weight?

My mini baguette cheat yesterday has caused a 2lbs gain!!! I am horrified. I won't be doing that again!

clare8allthepies · 08/05/2018 11:33

I don’t subtract the fibre from the total carbs on MFP but I always make sure that I’m using uk nutritional values that don’t include the fibre in the carbs. I find if you search for stuff like Tesco mushrooms or Asda broccoli you get the right amounts.

50andgoingstrong · 08/05/2018 13:28

Well done on your 2lb loss banging

My loss is slow,. 8lb in just over a month, but my aim is to lose 16lb in total so I think it's ok. I'm hoping to be roughly where I want to be by summer holidays. DH called me skinny yesterday and said don't lose any more.... ignoring him as think he is jel 😂

I think I'm in ketosis, breakfast at 7 and I'm not hungry yet!

OP posts:
50andgoingstrong · 08/05/2018 13:29

user up the fat. My macros are 70% fat! 5% carb, 25% protein.

OP posts:
50andgoingstrong · 08/05/2018 18:28

Ok because I'm not sure I will post my carbs (and the fibre) from now on!

Day 40 ✅ 42g carbs

( 13g fibre ) so I would've calculated 29g carbs before but I'll work on the full amount from now on. See if it makes a difference!

OP posts:
BangingOn · 08/05/2018 18:40

Good plan 50, if you go with the worst case carbs measurement it will be interesting to see if it makes a difference.

I’ve not been hungry at all today, partly heat and partly ketosis. I had mushrooms in garlic butter with mozzarella and chorizo for brunch, then planning bolognaise with spiralized courgettes for dinner.

user1471530109 · 08/05/2018 20:28

I think it I post my food in here it may help me...

I had a cup of tea before work and a coffee X2 before lunch (all with splash of milk).

Lunch was salad leaves and quite a bit of goats cheese to up my fat!

Dinner was salad again with 2/3 of a chicken breast (DD had other 1/3), chipolata and a v large scoop of coleslaw.

Full fat Greek yoghurt 150g with 30g of hazelnuts.

Does that scream out as bad in any way? I've also had a can of diet coke.
That is a very typical day tbh.

50andgoingstrong · 09/05/2018 18:52

Sounds fine user. Make sure coleslaw is full fat mayo.

Day 41 ✅ 38 g carbs (11g fibre)

Hi there, is it ok if I join in?
I did low carb for a few weeks in March/April and lost 20lb. I got bored and calorie counted for a few weeks but put on a few pounds. I'm back on low carb again this last week and have lost what I'd put on plus a little.
I'm not particularly keen on the diet but like this loss and how food isn't taking over my life with cravings and oh mindless eating.
I'm in ketosis and had a bad week last week getting there so I really want to give it a good run as it took lots of will power to do it twice, not sure I'm up for a third timeBlush

50andgoingstrong · 09/05/2018 19:14

Welcome lone and well done on the 20lb loss that's amazing!

Thanks 50 I find it difficult to stick to low carb in the initial first days so I followed the Blood Sugar diet the first time. I've a lot to lose hence the initial fast loss.
I'm now LCHF attempting to follow boot camp rules. Plenty of water and fat seem to help me stay on track but I won't lie I miss carbs. I need to lose another 4 stone, I'd intended doing by cycling between low carb for a few weeks then calorie counting but I'm not sure I'd have the strength to keep returning to ketosis, mind you I'm not sure I've the strength to low carb long term either. Ideally if I lost half the weigh then I wouldn't mind upping carbs a bit and calorie counting but what's idea in my head often isn't in reality.Grin

Sorry for withering on, you lot are doing great sticking with it so long. It's also encouraging to read about ye having blips but getting back on track again.

user1471530109 · 09/05/2018 20:14

Lone that is amazing! I'd love to say I've lost 20lbs.

The extra 2lbs is off now. I am really really hoping for an end to the plateau this week! Fingers crossed.

I'm having or trying to have an overhaul of my whole appearance. So weight loss is the biggest thing. I've been wearing contacts again this week after a decade break! And also had my diary haircut since last August. I am determined to turn things around.

Glad you think my food diary sounds ok, 50. Least I'm not doing anything obviously wrong.

There is a lot of inspiration in this thread Wine

50andgoingstrong · 09/05/2018 20:19

user are you having cream in coffee? It's a good way of upping fat.

OP posts:
50andgoingstrong · 09/05/2018 20:22

B - 2 eggs, spinach, butter, cream, tea, 🍫 dark choc 80%
L - same as yesterday's dinner!
D - salmon fillet, cream , asparagus mint tea. Dark choc.

Hi! I started on Sunday... tbh I'm a bit bored of salads and nuts!

Lonesurvivor · 09/05/2018 21:28

user I am very pleased with the fast loss, it's great having that off me I feel much better. However I reckon the loss all works out the same in the end, it usually slows/plateaus after big losses.

Well done on your losses, and taking more care with yourself, it's nice to feel good isn't it.

user1471530109 · 09/05/2018 21:39

Hi posting !

So, lunch was ham salad with lots of feta.
Dinner was salad with half an avacado, chicken breast and 2 bacon slices. Dressing.

Snacks have been about 50g of nuts.

Also had a small couple of squares of dark chocolate and glass of dry white wine after an epically long day.

lone it's still an amazing achievement. It sounds like we have roughly the same left to lose. I have a feeling you will get there first!

I'm just looking forward to a summer without stressing about what to wear!

postingherefortraffic · 10/05/2018 18:16

👋🏻

50andgoingstrong · 10/05/2018 22:49

Day 42✅ 49g carb (14g fibre)

Noticed today my PMT is much better and periods lighter 🙂 Anyone else seen an improvement?
