Anyone starting today who wants to keep me company?

I'm starting LCHF today. Is there anyone else who is starting now or have recently started this diet who wants to join me so we can support each other?

I need to lose at least 12 kg but would ideally want to lose 17 kg. if possible before summer is here so I don't have to feel self conscious about wearing summery clothes.

That's great about continuing to lose, stripeyzebra. I have soooo many packs of those noodles in the cupboard but I reckon they have a use by of around 2050 (!!) and so can stay until I have another go at LC. I'm sure I'll be back at it one day.

SheriffCallie · 28/06/2016 23:41

Hello all, I've been trying to post for a couple of days but it keeps disappearing. I'm still here though. Took fri and sat off as I was visiting friends, back on it by Sunday.
I don't think I'm still losing weight but am feeling pretty good. I reckon i'd have to start doing bootcamp to start losing kgs again, which I can't be bothered with, but will keep on at LCHF but with the occasional break for treats. I reckon I could maintain the loss on that.
KP good luck with SW. Keep us posted.
Stripey, what cal intake are you aiming for for the time being?

KP86 · 29/06/2016 20:24

Damn, lost my post when it wouldn't work yesterday.

Slimming World is going well for me so far. Have to say, my breakfast of SF/FF yoghurt and fruit yesterday morning had me feeling hungry not long after! But I survived and felt fine after I'd eaten some shaved chicken for lunch. Today was good as well. I've been eating soooo much fresh fruit, I struggle to understand how this much sugar is going to help me lose weight but I guess we will see!

It's been easy to avoid the syns (this much fruit is still a huge treat after LC), they've mostly been from fattier cuts of meat so far, because that's what I've got in the freezer.

I'm so keen to see how much/if I lose this week. Aiming for the big first week of 2+kg. Wishful thinking but it would be nice to get back to being close to my LC lowest weight.

Hope you're all well.

stripeyzebra321 · 29/06/2016 21:28

I'm struggling to post on here.

Fingers crossed for you KP it's a strange diet as you can eat as much as you want but miraculously still lose weight. But I found I was constantly hungry on it and ate soooo much.

To answer the other post (on mob so can't see who poster was) Normally on LC I would have approx 800 - 1000cals a day but at the moment I'm aiming for 600-800cals.

It's unsafe to drop below 600 so I wear a fitness watch and eat back the extra cals so I don't fall under. I wouldn't recommend doing it, well not for long anyway but I will be doing it until Friday at least just to kick start it again as A last ditch attempt really.

My husbands just reminded me we have a event next week he's doing the 10k as that's way beyond my limits but I'm going to to a 1mile run with my daughter to see if she would like to start entering events. Last week when I was so lethargic a 1mile run had me blowing out my ass so I'm hoping to try again tomorrow and il either eat back what I've burnt or take a high protein meal bar (Atkins bar) or a diet whey shake.

A couple of friends have commented that my collar bone is now very prominent and maybe it's time to stop now, the problem is I can't help where it's coming off. I really wish it was coming of my tummy and legs but it's not so I'm carrying on. My bmi has only just gone under 25 so I'm not worried. Plus my legs are still fat.

Tbh I can't see a massive difference but I am officially down from a jean size 14 to a 10. And last night I put on a old pair of pj bottoms and they fell down. But I still can't see it, I really need to invest in a full length mirror.

How's everyone getting on this week?

KP86 · 29/06/2016 21:39

Stripeyzebra, 600-800cal is not healthy!

Even MFP says minimum of 1000-1200 to prevent you going into starvation mode.

Good going on the size drops, if you are a 10, there's no way your legs are huge! I wish I could be a size 10!

Do listen to your friends, sometimes we are blinded by how slim we are becoming - my best friend ended up with an eating disorder (pretty much anorexic) from severe weight loss which she was in total denial about. Periods stopped, hair fell out etc.

stripeyzebra321 · 29/06/2016 22:08

I'm having a huge tea tonight. I know it's not good, it's really was a temporary thing but I'm starving now. So most likely back on the 800-1000 from now on as LC is hard enough low calories is ever harder.

My thighs are big, there's a lot of melted leg issues there too. I'm very very shocked I fitted into a 10. As I've only been that size once when I was 7lbs lighter than I am now. My issue is I'm really short so that really doesn't help how I look.

I started reading the thread from the beginning earlier and you posted right at the start so fair play to you for doing it so long it's hard. Slimming world is very good and as a long term diet it bloody works. My mums had to change classes as they run two back to back the first class alone has 200 members.

I really hope you get a fab result on your first week. I expect it's very hard as its pretty much the opposite of what you have been doing!

KP86 · 01/07/2016 20:55

Well, I'm four days in and haven't given up yet! So far, so good. Scales this morning were mid-95s, which is great. I've gotten a bit ahead of myself but counting down, I can be 50-75% to goal by my birthday if I stick to 1kg/week. 11 weeks to go as of tomorrow.

Starting to look at how to adapt to SW recipes. Not having much fat might end up being a bit miserable. There's a recipe for scones with instant powdered mashed potato and fat free quark or cottage cheese, but what do you put on the buggers when they are warm and fresh from the oven?!?

Not going anywhere near my syns allowance, either. But we are going to visit friends on Sunday which will involve a pub lunch so I'm kind of (inadvertently) saving them up.

Hope you are all well. I keep checking the thread but no updates!

stripeyzebra321 · 01/07/2016 21:27

Sounds like your doing great KP.

I would take the 1kg per week but honestly look at it as a average over a month so you don't get disheartened. It's a good diet and it works well and it all adds up over time but personally I found if I had a great loss of say 3lbs one week the next would be lower. But we are all different. Also AF week can play havoc with the scales.

That recipe sounds interesting how about quark with vanilla essence and some no cal fake sugar (my mind has gone blank, sure you will know what I mean) that fluffy sugar.

I've never tried anything like that but did the instant mash pizza base once, yeah was pretty bad never tried again.

I'm at a brick wall again, lost earlier in the week over a lb maybe 1.2 then gained for 2 days now I'm stuck on the same weight. But the same thing happened on SW all those years ago i was so close to 10stone but took about a month to get under.

Yesterday was a bad day, I came so close to cheating. My H was at work my DD at a school sleep over and I was watching trash tv and that's when I would normally gorge on crap. My lovely bday chocs were calling me that I've not thought about since getting them so I had a Atkins chic bar to distract me and was still starving so had some ham and cheese to get me through until tea time. I was weak but did not break!

Feel a lot happier and less hungry today but my motivation has still not returned.

Onwards and downwards people, and have a great weekend!

KP86 · 01/07/2016 21:32

This is the really tough time, keeping at it when you have stalled. :(

Well done for choosing LC snack options. Some super dark, semi sweet chocolate (80% cocoa) also makes an OK snack to take the edge off sweet cravings when they hit.

stripeyzebra321 · 01/07/2016 22:19

It's a slippery slope tho for me, I can't stop at a bit it would be the whole thing or until I feel sick. Strange tho as I've not had chocolate since Xmas.

I am trying to religiously eat every 3 hours, as for me before doing this is I don't eat. Then I get to about 2pm and just eat whatever I can find. But if I'm prepared I eat well.

Frustrating but trying to re educate again. For the 6th year. I am determined to NOT have to put myself through this again and behave myself when I'm done as its getting harder each time. My pattern is low carb, gain 2 stone over 6 months mess about with false start diets for a couple a months then LC ketosis for 2-3 months.

stripeyzebra321 · 01/07/2016 22:26

Sorry everyone for my rant! Really angry with myself again for letting things slip and being back in this position for the gazzillionth time!

I will never learn haha

SheriffCallie · 01/07/2016 22:38

Well done for sticking to SW, KP. No ideas myself re the scones but stripeys idea sounds yum. Hoping you continue with the good losses for a while.
Stripey, that's awesome willpower. Bam and cheese is an excellent snack. I have to say, 75% choc has kept me on the straight and narrow on this way of eating.
I've lost a kg after my weeks of stalling, and thats with having last Friday and sat off. I reckon I could maintain this weight by LC 6 days a week and having a day where I mostly LC but have a treat or two.
Sally, are you around much? How have you been feeling, lovely?

SheriffCallie · 01/07/2016 22:40

Sorry we cross posted there, Stripy. I understand how frustrating it is. Well done on identifying the pattern and doing something to try to change it ie eating every few hours.

stripeyzebra321 · 01/07/2016 23:16

Callie a kg is a really good loss.

I def think your idea will work, as a long term plan you do need a treat or 2. I've always done simular (not this time round) but my weakness is dessert so good all week and have whatever nice pud I fancy on a Sunday. Something too look forward to and keep you on the right path for the week

KP86 · 02/07/2016 09:59

I've lost and gained the same 30kg three or four times in the last four years.

2012 - lost 30kg, down to about 78-80
By mid-2013, back up to 91. Then fell pregnant
Ended pregnancy at 115(ish, didn't weigh myself), but lost 15kg in first month post-natal.
Lost and gained a few more kg between mid-2014 and end-2014, hovering between 97 and 103ish.
Decided to move to UK mid-2015, stacked on the weight as I cleared out the food stocks/booze at home, and the discovery of By the time we arrived here I was 106-108kg.
Got down to about 98kg by end-October, then gave up again and over Christmas etc I ended up at 108kg again by the time I started LC in February.

If I added up all the kg lost over the past four years it would be a person! I'm worse than Oprah... it's hard to accept that I will never be able to just be slim easily. It is something I will always have to work on.

KP86 · 02/07/2016 10:04

Oops, discovery of Nutella donuts**

seasidesally · 02/07/2016 19:41

hi everyone, yes im still around Grin

had a very up and down last 10 days (mentally) and have lost all interest in LC so for now im introducing carbs slowly and it was a delight to go food shopping the other day though i didnt buy loads as thats to easy to pig out

i had my first potatoe 2 days ago a jacket, omg it was like nectar

havent had any bread or rice yet and made carbonara yesterday and really enjoyed cooking again, weight is still the same which is fine as ive had a good few nights out and eating and drinking has been all over the place but been normal last few days and will continue now England have bombed out

basically i will weigh monday and i suppose it will be a form of calorie counting and portion control

im a bit scared as i dont want to put on but ive no enthusiasum for LC at the moment,my carbs are still pretty low 50-100g a day but monday will be the proper start

will catch up on the posts over the weekend, hope your all well and things are going your way

stripeyzebra321 · 02/07/2016 20:59

Sally, omg my mouth watered at jacket potato that is my most favorite meal.
Sounds if your doing a really sensible thing there and not going overboard. When you do reintroduce rice and past have you considered whole meal as the carbs aren't complex carbs like white. Also new potatoes are low GI if you like them.

I've read sweet potato is a lot lower in carbs than normal and you can make wedges with them. I must confess I have no idea what a sweet potato is (sheltered life) I will look into them tho.

seasidesally · 02/07/2016 21:48

yes ive some brown pasta and rice in i prefer them to white same with bread so thats a positive

i know jacket potato is my favourite with crispy skin cooked in the ovenWink

the odd sweet potato i like but not to much

ignorance alert but whats a complex carb mean ??

KP86 · 02/07/2016 21:51

Complex carbs are whole grain carbs - they are more fibrous and stop your blood sugars from spiking (quite so much). Low GI, etc.

seasidesally · 02/07/2016 22:03

ah yes thanks

BIWI · 03/07/2016 11:39

It's a total myth about sweet potatoes being lower in carbs. Read this (from the LA Times)

Sweet potatoes vs. white potatoes: Are both bad for the waistline?

Sweet potatoes are often regarded as a healthier alternative to the white potato, which has been recently maligned as “Public Enemy No. 1” in America’s battle of the bulge. Some would even say that sweet potatoes are to white potatoes what brown rice is to white.

But in a head-to-head comparison, these two tubers are seemingly very similar. In a 100-gram portion, the white potato has 92 calories, 21 grams of carbs, 2.3 grams of dietary fiber, 2.3 g of protein and 17% of the recommended daily value of vitamin C. The same amount of sweet potato, on the other hand, has 90 calories, 21 grams of carbs, 3 grams of fiber, 2 grams of protein, 35% of the recommended daily value of vitamin C and 380% of the daily recommended value of vitamin A.

Emphasis in bold by me

BIWI · 03/07/2016 11:40

Sorry. Bold fail also mine!

white potato has 92 calories, 21 grams of carbs, 2.3 grams of dietary fiber, 2.3 g of protein

sweet potato, on the other hand, has 90 calories, 21 grams of carbs, 3 grams of fiber, 2 grams of protein

stripeyzebra321 · 03/07/2016 17:39

That's interesting re sweet potato. I may not bother with that then.

I do need to take a better look at carbs in veggies in general as for example I would add swede to mash to lower the cals when I'm not LC. I think as much as its a pain after but add and weigh things to MFP and look at what is everything.

Since doing this I have been taking some multivitamin cod liver and a fibre supliments. I ran out of fibre a week ago didn't think anything of it but my god I've had toilet troubles today and worked out I haven't been since stopping taking them and they are discontinued everywhere at the moment.

Not sure if taking senna is wise so I am going to take a trip into town to get some from holland and Barratt.

BIWI · 03/07/2016 17:49

If you have a look at the Bootcamp spreadsheet (posted on the OP of every Bootcamp weekly chat thread), on the tabs at the bottom you'll see a list of veg counts - the general rule of thumb is that if you stick mostly to those that are around 3g carbs per 100g you'll be fine, and you won't have to weigh/count anything.
