Anyone starting today who wants to keep me company?

I'm starting LCHF today. Is there anyone else who is starting now or have recently started this diet who wants to join me so we can support each other?

I need to lose at least 12 kg but would ideally want to lose 17 kg. if possible before summer is here so I don't have to feel self conscious about wearing summery clothes.

I like the recipes in 'from pig to twig' the India Knight recipe book. The muffin recipes are good.

I also like the bags of frozen Mediterranean veg from Waitrose (Aldi's aren't as nice) for a really quick and easy meal (I add a few cherry tomatoes and cloves of garlic). Bung in the oven with a piece of fish or chicken.

I had smoked haddock on a bed of spinach with a poached egg for dinner. It was bloody lovely.

Im doing paleo and lost 2 stone last year. Have not lost any more this year as been having too many paleo treats so need to get back on it. I don't strictly eat low carb as I eat fruit and all veg but don't eat any dairy, cheese, butter etc and I don't eat a lot of excess fat. Only fat that comes with food naturally. Makes me ill otherwise.

Emmiy · 19/03/2016 22:41

ohforfoxsake I also love the frozen Mediterranean veg. Really make a meal interesting.

One of my favourite breakfasts (apart from bacon, sausage, egg, tom, mushroom) is a homemade granola made from ground seeds, nuts, coconut and some almond flour. Served with a little coconut milk it really hits the cereal spot.

KP86 · 22/03/2016 20:07

I'll have to check out those vegies.

I'm back after two (somewhat planned) non-diet days. Today actually has been a little bit tough, I craved carbs and sweet things big time! But I've resisted and stuck to my net calorie goal.

B: one egg, bacon, mushrooms, spinach and a black Nespresso coffee
L: approx 250g baked chicken breast, some Philly whipped garlic and herb cheese, sugar free ginger beer. I also made myself some dark choc ganache (for lunch!!) as the cravings were bad
D: Cumberland sausages and steamed broc, sprouts and cauli
S: 50g chunk mature cheddar, pork scratchings, Earl Grey tea, Atkins choc cookies and sugar free jelly for dessert

Activity: swimming with DS for about 45 mins this morning. I'm hoping to go back to the gym from tomorrow, my knee is pretty much better.

In good news, I don't seem to have gained weight after the last two days of off-diet rating. Still the same, yay!

Hope everyone else is having a successful week.

hejsvejs · 23/03/2016 06:04

Well done for not gaining weight KP! And the food you eat looks incredibly yummy, thanks for the meal plan ideas.

I'm one week in and have lost 4.1 kg!!! (9 lbs) I think it's absolutely bonkers that I've lost this much already, but I do have a fair bit to lose so that might be why.

One thing I do find surprising is that I never feel hungry now. I almost have to force myself to eat. Does anyone know why this is?

Yesterday for lunch I managed some broth with coconut oil. I then, sort of mid afternoon, managed have a mozzarella ball with some spinach and for dinner I made meatballs, some fried mushrooms and sautéed spinach. I had to force dinner down and only managed two meatballs.

No idea why I can't seem to eat? This diet seem to have resulted in no hunger, no appetite but good energy levels still.

Hi everyone. Can I join in.
I need to lose a stone. So I've cut out most carbs and any refined sugar.
Yesterday I had a ham a cheese omelette for breakfast.
Lunch was cottage cheese and ham with a snack of a babybel and 10 almonds.

Dinner was roast chicken and sweet potato with spinach and half a pouch of brown rice and quinoa.

So I know not strictly LC but usually I'm a toast and bagel fiend and I can't leave chocolate alone.
So I'm doing better.

I'm also drinking loads of water and have cut out sugar in my tea.

I'm also trying to only eat within a 8/9 hour window.
I'm on day 3 now and I've lost a few pounds so far.

hejsvejs · 23/03/2016 07:10

Of course you can, well done on the weight loss so far!

Not feeling hungry is because the fat keeps you satiated, and so you feel fuller for longer.

Whereas sugar and other simple carbs give you a quick high but you come down quickly as well.

9lb in one week is fantastic! I lost about 3kg my first week and then it slowed down, but I still call that a huge win because if I didn't gain it back (eg. water weight) it means it's gone! Just watch that you are eating enough, at least 1200cal/day net (after activity) because otherwise your body may go into starvation mode :(

Welcome to the newbies, too. (Sorry, can't go back to see your name on my phone).

Emmiy · 23/03/2016 12:29

Thanks for the welcome. I bought a spiralizer (?) yesterday and am had some corgette carrot and sweet potato spaghetti with bacon mushroom and coconut cream sauce. I find that carbs make me hungry now but protein and a little fat definitely keeps me full and not hungry for anything else.

Emmiy · 23/03/2016 12:37

Ihatethecold I'm not strictly low carb as I do paleo (no wheat, dairy, beans or anything processed ish) and started it a year ago and have list 2 stone. It's slow but steady and has become a way of life. I do have the odd paleo treat like a slice of cake made from almond flour and fresh berries and it doesn't affect my weight. Grin

ihatethecold · 23/03/2016 12:41

Well done on losing 2 stones. That's amazing.

Today I have had some tuna with a boiled egg and some ricotta stired through.
Cappuccino and 10 almonds

For lunch I've had a prawn cocktail with salad leaves.

I've done a 1 hour dog walk and traipsed round town and I'll do another dog walk later.

Dinner will be same as last night
Roast chicken with sweet potato and quinoa.

ihatethecold · 23/03/2016 12:45

I have had s niggly headache for 3 days. Think my body is missing the chocolate

Emmiy · 23/03/2016 16:52

Ihate it's normal to get headaches when coming of high carb sugar foods. I do have a couple of squares of dark 70 per cent chocolate though and eat madjool dates which are like sweeties.

ihatethecold · 23/03/2016 17:06

If I eat any chocolate at all I will fall right off the wagon.
2 nurofen are safer.

seasidesally · 23/03/2016 17:56

i a little confused. i get the high fat low carb but are you meant to keep within your normal calorie allowance eg 1800 a day even though you will eat more fat ??

thank you

KP86 · 23/03/2016 18:00

80% choc is pretty good, and you can have as little as 10g just to take the edge off. It goes further as a ganache or if you whip together cream and pure cocoa to make a mousse.

Today's food:
B: coffee and pork scratchings (hungry but really didn't want eggs today!)
L: we were out, but I resisted the call of pure junk food and got a pot with two eggs and spinach, and 10 pork cocktail sausages from M&S food
D: Mexican 'hot pot' with pork mince, shredded sprouts, broccoli, grated carrot and mushrooms, served with cauli rice
S: 70g whole almonds across the day (another M&S snack pot) - an eye opener to realise there are more than 400cal in that small container!
Sugar free ginger beer
Sugar free jelly and Atkins choc cookies for dessert

Activity: I was planning on going to the gym tonight but I really couldn't be bothered so took DS on a 45 min walk in the pram around our local area. Better than nothing.

KP86 · 23/03/2016 18:03

Hi seasidesally, yes, you should aim to keep within a reasonable calorie allowance, especially in the beginning. Once you've been doing it a while you will stop feeling so hungry all the time and as such you may be able to relax calorie counting (while keeping track of carbs) as you will have your appetite under control naturally.

While you are increasing fat, by cutting carbs the increase in calories isn't all that different (if that makes sense).

seasidesally · 23/03/2016 18:22

thanks, yes ive just started tracking on MFP and have put in 1800 calories and 45 carbs (though normally i use 20-30 carbs daily)65 fat and 25 protein

god know if thats right there's alot to learn

find MFP really good

thanks for the replies

hejsvejs · 23/03/2016 19:33

I don't count calories at all, I might start doing it if I find that I'm not losing weight.

I've been on the road all day today do stopped at an M&S at a service station for lunch. I had a Greek salad (4.5g carbs) and two small (35g) cheeses.

I'm still struggling to eat as I'm not at all hungry (almost feeling slightly sick constantly) but will try to eat something else as soon as the DC's are in bed.

Emmiy · 23/03/2016 19:46

I don't count calories at all. I don't eat lots of fat though nor cream, cheese or any dairy. I find if I start counting calories then it just becomes another diet when for me this is just how I eat. The benefit of eating clean foods for me are weight loss and and so many other health benefits.

KP86 · 23/03/2016 19:52

I feel sick to the point of dry retching if I haven't eaten (even if I wasn't feeling hungry). Particularly in the mornings.

I like to calorie count as it helps me feel a little more in control. I am an over eater from way back!

ihatethecold · 23/03/2016 20:37

I had some marmite on toast earlier BlushBlushBlush

Do I need to leave the thread?

KP86 · 23/03/2016 20:48

Haha!! I have probably one day/fortnight which isn't LC, don't worry. Doesn't seem to affect me too much. And it takes a few days to get back in the swing of things afterwards.

It's Easter this weekend, that's two days I'm allowing myself to free carb ;)

KP86 · 23/03/2016 21:04

Eek, *effect.

seasidesally · 23/03/2016 23:59
