Week 3 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - The Crossroads!

BIWI · 22/09/2013 23:12

So we have reached the end of the first two, strict weeks.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

By now, if you have stuck to your knitting, you should be ketogenically adapted - which is to say, you should have switched your body from burning carbs to burning fat.

Hurrah!

Flowers

You now have a choice. You can relax things a little and can include some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds - and a little alcohol in moderation The rules of Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet.

Or

You can stay on Bootcamp, if it suits you - as long as you promise me that you are getting your carbs from vegetables and salad!

Another option, which many of us adopt, is to do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is entirely yours!

I hope that everyone is enjoying their food, which is the most important thing. And good luck for the next week.

Thanks Stunt, I do drink plenty of water and will definitely try alternating glasses of wine and water. The trouble is that once I start drinking, it slips down so easily! Blush

Loopy it's this one... It was expensive at £6 but it's lasted since July and there's still some left. You grind it onto yoghurt and you can feel a lovely little vanilla crunch as you eat it!

Millie how infuriating! Did you track him down and exchange?

New go on gal - sock it to those carby twats!! I know you can do it.

Welcome Encyclogirl and Bastard. Great names! Grin

Twit can't you take piriton tablets?

Auntie well thank you! Grin Glad you liked it!

I've stayed the same this week (about half a pound off, I think). Sad Oh well. I made a low carb cream tea today and it was bloody amazing! DD's dad's recently ex girlfriend (whaddaya mean you're confused?! Grin) came down to visit her today so I thought I'd make afternoon tea. I baked the almond sponge in the IPD cookbook, which came out about an inch thick. I cut it into heart shaped 'scones' with a cookie cutter and served them with raspberries, clotted cream and toasted almond flakes (DD's idea), and jam for DD and her ex-sort-of-stepmother. They were deeeeeeeelicious and I had the leftover bits for pudding too. Blush

Other food...
Bulletproof decaf coffee
Mozzarella, parma ham, tomatoes
D - black farmer chipolatas with wild field mushrooms given to us by a frind, and bubble and squeak made with mashed swede and the first brussel sprouts of the season. Yum.

loopyloou · 23/09/2013 23:53

Thanks Crabby, unfortunately link not working on my iPad. Hmm I'll try and get on my pc tomorrow.

NewStartNewStory · 24/09/2013 06:40

I am impressed crabby that must have meant a lot for dd. Ds has struggled with losing his dad's ex's from his life in the past. Tbh i hope he is sensible enough to keep his current gf as she is bloody brilliant in knocking some sense into him Grin

That is the plan Crabby yesterdays was pretty good. More struggled with the comfort frame of mind (and having to be on the confectionery isle) and eating 3 meals things. I struggle with 3 meals when I have been a carby twat. Actually I struggle with the concept of 3 meals.

Early breakfast this morning. Will be ready for lunch as I am about to drag my tired self to the gym for some gentle cardio work. If I am honest I would rather have slept another 2 hrs.

holmessweetholmes · 24/09/2013 07:45

Is anyone else noticing any other benefits from this WOE yet? I can't say I've seen any difference to hair, teeth or skin yet, but I do think I feel a bit calmer and more balanced without the sugar/carb rushes. I can be a bit anxious normally, but am feeling really quite chilled out (which is surprising as I have just started a new job for the first time in 10 years, which should be pretty stressful!).

Cherrypi · 24/09/2013 07:50

Lost another half a pound. Exactly 12 stone now. 0.25lb to go till I'm in the 11s yay.

prettybird · 24/09/2013 07:56

I was complimented at the weekend about the way my shape has changed! Smile

1lb off again - but there again, I've not fully managed to get back in to the ZoneBlush I've just done doing Boot Camp Lite.

WillieWaggledagger · 24/09/2013 08:01

sorry finbar - i see you've already found your way here! i've added you to the spreadsheet

lavenderhoney · 24/09/2013 08:07

I have been visited by the whoosh fairy:) between weigh in yesterday and today ( always weigh myself, just a habit I'm not stressed by it adds hurriedly) I have lost 2.5llb!

To quote Rupbrekt " butter and water, butter and water"

As I serve dishes on the table and we all serve ourselves, dc don't really notice my plate piled with veg and i skip carbs. However I have noticed that dc are slowly not bothering with carbs and having more veg- they leave the carbs til last. Unless its Yorkshire pudding:)

WillieWaggledagger · 24/09/2013 08:17

discussion about results of swedish systematic review into dietary treatment of weight loss released yesterday - suggests low carbing is most effective, or at least not the fad diet that many perceive it - it has links to the original reports so you can judge for yourself, though it is in swedish and the links show it in google translate which doesn't exactly make it all that easy to read in english!

Lifeisontheup · 24/09/2013 08:32

I find a bulletproof coffee has a 'moving' effect on my insides. Normally within five minutes.
I can't quite believe I've given up sugar/sweetener in coffee. I do have cinnamon and sometimes ginger though.

LCHammer · 24/09/2013 08:35

Thanks for the link willie. That should gradually make its way into 'mainstream' medical knowledge. I'll go back to reading it properly.

bettybigballs · 24/09/2013 08:35

Morning all, had a much better day yesterday and now feel far more in the swing of everything.

Crabby, your cream tea sounds wonderful!

B: cream cheese pancakes with extra butter
L: chicken leg with veg
D: leftover Bol with courgette spag and Parmesan

Did much better on the water front yesterday too, had to get up three times in the night to go to the loo though!

Have a crazy weekend coming up though so shopping for handbag snacks to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Happy Tuesday losers!

captainmummy · 24/09/2013 08:36

It's very interesting, Willie. Message is getting through!
Holmes - I suffered from Rosacea and noticed almost straighaway how improved my skin was.

And remember - FAT doesn't make you fat; carbs do! It is hard to stop 'counting calories' as we are still surrounded by dieticians who should know better by know who keep telling us calories-in, calories-out; but a calorie is not always a calorie!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 24/09/2013 08:58

Still really quite poorly. The sickness has been replaced by trouble the other end. Last night I thought I was ok and had my tea but obviously not.

This is my second day off work - I teach food tech so really can't be in when I'm like this.

Usually I would have toast to settle my stomach, have avoided so far but think I might just have to.

Any advise over anything else I could try ?

loopyloou · 24/09/2013 09:11

Very interesting Willie, thanks for sharing that Smile

BIWI · 24/09/2013 09:37

Sorry you're still not well, ImATot. Could you tolerate a little bit of full fat yoghurt? Assuming it has live bacteria in it, that might help settle things, but will certainly help deal with the nasties in your gut.

OP posts:
ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 24/09/2013 10:00

Ive had some yogurt already this morning. My stomach is gurgling away but so far its stayed down. I think i'll just see how I go for a bit now.

loopyloou · 24/09/2013 10:32

ImaTot, have you tried some camomile tea to settle your tum? Or peppermint tea? I must admit last time I had an upset tum whilst low carbing I did have some plain boiled white rice because I couldn't face anything else. But definitely agree, live yoghurt will help with the good bacteria. Or probiotic capsules.

CrabbyBigBottom · 24/09/2013 10:36

Loopy you can't see the link because I forgot to put it in. D'oh! It's this one, but I can't find it on the websites of either Waitrose or the company that makes it, Taylor & Colledge. Confused I hope they haven't stopped making it. I'll have a look in Waitrose next time I'm in there. They do a vanilla bean paste, I see on the website, that might have that gritty effect that's so yummy in yoghurt. Not sure though. Watch this space! Grin

New it's hard on kids when people come and go from their lives. xDP has had several girlfriends who have really cared about DD but the relationships haven't lasted. This most recent ex has been around for 3 or 4 years though and DD referred to her as her stepmother and her family as hers - her 'cousin' etc. I do get a bit exasperated with xDP because he's known for a long time that he's not in love with her and doesn't want to live with her or take the relationship any further, yet he's just let things drift along with her thinking everything is fine and DD getting used to having that whole family thing. She's a really nice woman and adores xDP and DD. Sad xDP told DD that they'd split up but then it's me who DD asks about why it happened, me who the ex wants to communicate with about seeing DD because she's too distraught to deal with xDP, and me who had to sit making conversation all afternoon and then try to give advice when DD went off to play minecraft and this poor woman tells me how desperately hurt and confused she is! Hmm Grumph! Sometimes I want to shake some sense into him! Grin

Anyway I hope you have a better day today. I know there's been a lot of talk on here about emotional eating and trying to conquer that. For me personally, food and wine is one of my greatest pleasures in life and there will always be an emotional component to that. It will never be just fuel to me and I wouldn't want it to be (nor would DP). So for me it's about finding comfort food that isn't just sugary shit. I still want that comfort, but I'm finding recipes that give me that feeling without me getting the urge to run amok in the confectionery isle. Wink Am I right in remembering that you have had issues with food in the past?

That cream tea yesterday really hit the 'treat' button. I know we're breaking our addiction to sweet tastes and it wasn't particularly sweet but it was oh so creamy and light! I'll post the recipe later for anyone who doesn't have the IPD cookbook. It might work for your dicky tummy as a toast replacement too ImATot?

I have to be able to get excited about my food and that's why I love this WOE - it's so bloody delicious!

WillieWaggledagger · 24/09/2013 10:44

crabby this is the vanilla powder i buy - it's six vanilla pods ground up. it ain't cheap but one pot lasts months and months because you only need about half a pinch at a time. i bought a pot for my mum's christmas stocking!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 24/09/2013 11:07

We have chamomile tea, as DP drinks it at night, we might have peppermint too (he's a fruit/herbal tea fiend) - i'll have a look when I next get up off the sofa. Grin

NewStartNewStory · 24/09/2013 11:58

Crabby you are indeed right about the issues with food. Serious issues with food. I found my way here last year for the run up to christmas bootcamp not long after I had been given a choice: stop doing what I was doing or expect to be dead within 5yrs definitely and probably significantly less. I know I am making lots of mistakes and having so many wobbles on the way but that is the sort term picture. Long term picture is having to completely relearn my approach to food (and by default life). And the fact that I no longer have that prediction hanging over me is down to bootcamp and the support from the regulars. Still not in the best place healthwise but so so much better then I was and this will continue to improve the longer I focus on making this work.

B:3 eggs scrambled
During snack: 1x diet coke 500ml bottle (no ideal but got a bit wobbly in training and they were trying to convince me to eat something sugary)
Post training snack: 10 peanuts (yeah I actually counted) and some dairy free yoghurt after doing the weekly shop

Am about to go grab a salad for lunch.

tenementfunster · 24/09/2013 14:28

2 and a quarter on this week.
accounted for : lemsip, treacly cough mixture and period
clothes looser tho

googoogoggles · 24/09/2013 14:53

I recently bought that vanilla grinder Willie – I haven't tried it yet as am trying to NOT to eat Total yoghurt for a while longer as I can easily scoff a whole massive tub in one sitting (yes, I'm that greedy)
I had to make myself eat today as I wasn't in the slightest bit hungry when I got up and then lost track of time working – am at home today. So, I've just had several soft boiled eggs and some home-made coleslaw and, to be honest, feel a bit sick... (probably ate too fast)
Got pilates this eve and best not to eat before or I can't do the core exercises but I've planned lamb chops and buttered greens for later (while watching Bake Off!)

BIWI · 24/09/2013 15:22

tenementfunster - hope you're feeling better now. Don't worry too much about this week's gain - getting through illness is much more important than worrying about your weight.
