Week 3 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - The Crossroads!

So we have reached the end of the first two, strict weeks.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

By now, if you have stuck to your knitting, you should be ketogenically adapted - which is to say, you should have switched your body from burning carbs to burning fat.

Hurrah!

Flowers

You now have a choice. You can relax things a little and can include some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds - and a little alcohol in moderation The rules of Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet.

Or

You can stay on Bootcamp, if it suits you - as long as you promise me that you are getting your carbs from vegetables and salad!

Another option, which many of us adopt, is to do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is entirely yours!

I hope that everyone is enjoying their food, which is the most important thing. And good luck for the next week.

2lb off :)

I am struggling MASSIVELY with constipation though. And I am drinking so much water - but because of all of my meds I'm stuck. All help/suggestions

Ruprekt - Butter and water, people, butter and water - you know people made of butter and water? Grin Grin Grin

Just off to do the weekly shop, Strawberries and double cream, here I come!!!

Also, someone posted about there being no carb free/low carb snacks etc....

I wanted to know about these BIWI?

Morrison 'Free From' range do some crackers that have 4.9g (per cracker) of carbs in, they are wheat, gluten and dairy free, and I wondered if they were ok for a very occasional 'treat' with cheeses on?

I've done shit on bootcamp. I haven't posted due the sheer level of pants that my bootcamp experience has been.

Pulling myself up by the bootstraps today and trying again.

I've managed to gain 2lbs since the start :(

All my own fault mind you. Too much weekend relaxing of the rules at this end.

I need to at least post on the thread that might help me stay on plan.

Well done everyone else, you put me to shame.

Poor Mouse! What laxatives are you allowed with your medication?

Doris how about half the bowl of yogurt before the school run and the other half afterwards? I used to have a mega just-in-from-school-run snack habit. Chipping talked me down from it by asking what the emotional eating issues were behind it. She was right, it was emotional eating. I don't even think about a 9.15am snack, these days. I can't explain why, just the realisation came at the right time?

I think ithere may be an aspect of emotional eating lily ... maybe a reward for get through the havoc in the morning.

I might try having another couple of spoons of yougurt rather than the cheese.

Hi all, congrats to the losers!
I'm not weighing myself til Thursday as I started the Thursday before bootcamp started. Over the weekend my rash got so bad I had to have a dose of piriton, I couldn't sleep it was so itchy. I have now got a seriously sore throat and have lost my voice Sad which the kids have taken full advantage of.
Anyway thanks for the grips, they are lovely. I am going to remain on bootcamp for at least another week to make up for the piriton, then I'll see.
Breakfast, warm water, egg
Snack, sausage
Dinner, meh, not hungry hurts too much
Tea, possibly bolognese and courgette slices. Or smidge of yoghurt & flaxseed for my throat.
Lots and lots and even more warm water for my throat. I am prepared to be hungry, and have boiled some eggs and cooked some belly in advance just in case it hits at just- back -from -school -and -making -the -tea time.
And somewhat scarily I have been knitting myself a hat this weekend Shock my first in the round project.

Well I seem to have re-lost the half stone which, as I posted a few days ago, had mysteriously appeared over night - and just in time for weigh-in! That web page posted by Stuntnun is very interesting, not least because it seems to admit that, after the initial water weightloss, the subsequent weightloss does in fact come from calories in vs. calories burned, and that the reason lc works is that it is so much easier to eat fewer calories.
As you suggested, BIWI, I am also approaching TOTM, so hopefully I will lose a few more pounds after the slight hormonal bloat has gone! I do find the weight fluctuations rather extraordinary though...

B: Scrambled eggs with lots of butter, couple of cherry tomatoes
L: salad with sliced grilled steak, a bit of mozzarella and mustardy oily dressing.
D: Lamb and veg curry

Oh and I've been knitting this weekend too - BIWI really does have eyes everywhere!

I have done two weeks with the only slip ups being 1 glass of wine and two flat white coffees.
I have been walking DD to school and been to do interval training at the gym 4 times.
I have only lost 1lb this week.
A tad disppointing but I feel soooooo much better I don't care. Plus my clothes fit better.
Bring on week 3 !

Hi all,

I'm down 13lb since starting three weeks ago - I can't open the spreadsheet so will have dropped off it but will post each week as helps keep me motivated. I'm going to stick with bootcamp for this week as will be havinga big blow out on Saturday for my sister's wedding.

B - fritatta with chorizo
L - chicken salad
D - bubble and squeak with left over roast pork, swede, cabbage and brocolli.

Well I messed up completely last night. Complete carby twat.

And then I forgot to weigh this morning. Probably just as well!

Back on bootcamp now though. Although need to go shopping to stock up the fridge.

Thanks StuntNun. I am sticking to bootcamp despite disappointing results. I googled underactive thyroid and I do seem to have a number of symptoms including tiredness, muscle/joint pain and feeling cold - all of which have worsened over the last year. It might just be old age and variable hormones though.

You're right, this woe at least might stop me putting on any more, and I am enjoying my food. I going to cut right down on dairy this week and see what happens.

STS again although TOTM so not overly fussed. I have been this weight for the last 12 months but have lost lots of inches (2 dress sizes). I suspect to lose more weight I would have to do something drastic! I would love to lose another 1/2 stone but .... I am focusing more about looking strong and lean rather than what the scales actually say. Had a choir concert yesterday so was wearing a long black strapless dress and had lots of people commenting on my arms and shoulders (positively!) so that was a bit of a boost Smile

Well done to all the losers and keep the faith if you have STS or gained.

Lily - I can take anything but NOTHING WORKS anymore because of the fact that I've been on Morphine (240mg twice a day plus concentrated liquid morphine when needed throughout the day) for 2/3 years! So, I take a mixture of senna, and OTC laxatives, and I take something called Pukka Organic Triphala Plus which is from a herbalist currently.

I've tried lactulose, movicol, fybogel, suppositories, erm, pretty much everything and I get to the point where I don't want to eat because I hurt so much Sad

I drink loads of water to help ease things along when they do move as such, sorry, TMI Blush

I hate it because I'm so slim everywhere else, skinny even, but I have this belly of hard waste.

Torro - I thought I had an underactive thyroid so went and had a blood test done at the GP, I'd advise that with the symptoms that you've posted, just to get an MOT :) xx

Mouse that's awful! I've no idea what to suggest tablet-wise – have you considered colonic irrigation (if you could bear it). It sounds terribly drastic but I've a friend who did it a couple of times a few years ago and she said it really helped her...

Oh, and 2lbs off for me this week.
Yes, would have loved to see a bigger loss but I'm really hoping that some fat has gone, not just water.
I am going to try keep going with Bootcamp this week as I really want to start burning off fat reserves and last BC I relaxed into Bootcamp light too quickly until I was eating yoghurt/berries with flaxseed most days, with alcohol during the week as well as at weekends and too many treat squares of dark chocolate so my weight loss stalled.
Well done everyone for any losses great or small, and chin up to those who've struggled a bit or not yet had a loss (despite being good)
We'll get there!

Doris, have you tried celery with Philadelphia? I also take a pot of cucumber slices in HM dressing or mayo to work. Plus slices of cold grilled streaky bacon or pork scratchings.

Stopping by for motivation & food ideas.

I failed miserably last week due to post holiday blues & a stinking cold (excuses, excuses Blush) but am on the wagon again as I want to be slimmer by Christmas (and fit back into my clothes).

So, today I've had

FF Greek Yog for breakfast
Curried cauliflower soup for lunch (from a recipe on a previous boot camp)
Snacks have been celery with pate, and raw cauliflower with full fat cream cheese.

Dinner later is roasted gammon joint with broccoli and sauteed leeks & cabbage.

Does that sound OK for boot camp?

Torrorosso - I'm convinced I am hypothyroid too. However my tests keep coming back at just over the sub-clinical level (consistently for the last 6 years). I can't keep going back and asking for my thyroid to be checked again, but my GP agrees I am symptomatic. Apparently it is widely recognised that about 20% of the sample of people that they use to calculate the 'normal' range are in fact undiagnosed hypothyroid, so it means that the normal range actually includes a level which would be treated in other countries. In the US, they treat at much lower levels.

MillieMoomay I hope you get your house sale sorted - what a horrible thing of the seller to do.

Well done all on your losses.

I had a consultant appointment this afternoon, orthopaedic. He clearly wasn't very interested as the condition isn't causing me pain. It is however a big deal to me, and I've been passed around various hospital departments for the past nine months trying to get a diagnosis.

Anyway He suggested losing weight would make a difference. He was'nt even looking at me - he'd barely looked at me from the start, just spouting spiel.

I told him I was at the bottom of a normal BMI now, and actually, I'd lost 30lbs recently - and was that advice really all he could come up with?

I'm not normally so rude. But then I'm not normally presented with such pompous people.

I am starting week 5, but my weightloss has been:

Week 1 lost seven pounds (carrying much bloating after a heavy weekend)
Week 2 gained 1.5 pounds
Week 3 lost 3.25 pounds
Week 4 gained 1.25 pounds.

So overall I have lost seven pounds in four weeks, and I have been really strict, no slip ups apart from a couple of diet cokes in four weeks. I am now worried that most of this is glycogen and water and I haven't really lost any weight at all in four weeks. But I suppose that as long as the losses are bigger than the gains then all is OK. I am going to stay on bootcamp for another ten days until I go on holiday, and hope for another loss this week.

Today:
B: scrambled eggs with butter on a big slice of ham
L: Cold pork, salad with dressing, celery with philly
D: Sausages, brocolli, vinaigrette

Yesterday:
B: yogurt and cream, 2 streaky bacon
L: tuna mayo, salad, pork scratchings
D: chicken breast, mashed cauli with butter

Just made a flaxseed muffin-in-a-minute. Might need to try adding different flavours, but it wasn't bad. Speedy and very very filling. Good breakfast option occasionally I guess.
