Week 3 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - The Crossroads!

So we have reached the end of the first two, strict weeks.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

By now, if you have stuck to your knitting, you should be ketogenically adapted - which is to say, you should have switched your body from burning carbs to burning fat.

Hurrah!

Flowers

You now have a choice. You can relax things a little and can include some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds - and a little alcohol in moderation The rules of Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet.

Or

You can stay on Bootcamp, if it suits you - as long as you promise me that you are getting your carbs from vegetables and salad!

Another option, which many of us adopt, is to do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is entirely yours!

I hope that everyone is enjoying their food, which is the most important thing. And good luck for the next week.

googoo yes i have to buy the small pots of total yoghurt. they are more expensive but i'm less likely to scoff it all!

Lifeisontheup · 24/09/2013 15:56

Why am I craving sweet things today? I've not cheated at all and it was going so well. I haven't given in yet, will have another bulletproof coffee and see if that cures the craving.

tenementfunster · 24/09/2013 16:11

thanks, BIWI. it makes a difference to have the support. Also, before i would've just opened the biscuits and thought sod it I'm ill.
that's a bit of a turning point for an emotional eater, not heading for sweet stuff.

BIWI · 24/09/2013 16:24

Well done! And that virtuous feeling is so lovely. I love a bit of smuggery Grin

Life - hard isn't it? Those pesky carbs really have their claws in us. I find a piece of cheese in those instances can help. Even if it isn't what I want to eat, having eaten it is does seem to help.

I was in a boring meeting today- there were loads of biscuits. Normally I would have had a few but I looked at them and thought do I really want them? And I resisted Smile

Lifeisontheup · 24/09/2013 16:42

Just had some ham and the coffee, seems to have knocked the pesky carbs on the head.
Perhaps I should try some visualisation exercises.. a big hammer knocking evil goblin-like carbs on the head and squishing them.

MrsSnuffleupagus · 24/09/2013 17:02

ok so far today
breakfast- an egg fried in butter ( all we had left, have since been shopping)
lunch- h/m coleslaw, left over roast chicken and courgette fried in butter
snacks- small bowl of total yog and pate on cucumber slices- I seem to be starving today
dinner will be baked fish on a bed of ratatoille

one normal tea, two fruit teas and gallons of water.

Does this sound a bit light on the fat front to anyone or ok?

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/09/2013 19:08

Hello everyone, haven't had a chance to catch up properly but had some blood tests last week. I have been eating low carb high fat (think sea salt crystal butter by the truck load) for over a year now. My blood sugars (hba1c) is the lowest it has ever been, in the excellent category (for a diabetic this is amazeballs tbh!) and my cholesterol was also its lowest ever - again in the excellent category and all on the right proportions (as a diabetic my targets are lower too). All my results were amazing, and because I get them done every 3-9 months I can see what an improvement this is having on my health. I realise that not everyone has the opportunity to see their results laid out in black and white like that, so I thought I would share and hopefully perhaps help reassure that eating good fat doesn't equal high cholesterol and stuff!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 24/09/2013 20:06

Oh, wow, MrsHP that's fantastic. Lovely to read!

loopyloou · 24/09/2013 20:09

Today my dh treated me to a day out, just the 2 of us, as we've had no holiday due to him being out of work at present and also hadn't celebrated our wedding anniversary 2 weeks ago. We wandered round a nearby beautiful old city and unfortunately succumbed to a small piece of cake and one beer. Otherwise stuck to lc WOE and will drink lots and be strict tomorrow.

B: egg mayo and bacon
L: sausage
D: chilli without beans or rice with yoghurt and grated cheese
S: pork scratchings, cake, beer! Hmm (But it was lovely!)

holmessweetholmes · 24/09/2013 20:20

That's brilliant, Mrs HP - and very reassuring that we are all doing the right thing!

holmessweetholmes · 24/09/2013 20:24

B: flax muffin with a smear of peanut butter
L: Leftover lamb and veg curry
D: big salad with oily dressing, some mozzarella and ham and avocado

Quick question - I think I'm eating a fair amount of fat, mostly in the form of olive oil or coconut oil, but not much butter - is that ok?

AuntieMaggie · 24/09/2013 20:37

I wasn't hungry today so didn't eat til dinner which was a meal out -I had chicken with corgette, leeks and mushrooms in a cheese sauce with salad and a large glass of water. Didn't even look at the bread (yay me)

Now tomorrow night is a buffet restaurant meal... I'm going to really try not to stray... what is the view on salsas?

BastardDog · 24/09/2013 21:22

I'm another one that's not really been hungry today, but nevertheless has managed to eat some really scrummy food.

B 2 coffees with cream and a bit of cheese
L mixed salad with avocado and smoked salmon with ff mayo
D pork steak fried in butter with cauliflower cheese

Pleased to read MrsHerculePoirots blood results. Thanks for letting us know.

googoogoggles · 24/09/2013 22:01

That's really great news re blood tests MrsHP
I'm no good advising re fat content MrsSnuflepagus as I'm still feeling my way with this WOE a bit, but I'm sure there'll be someone along to advise shortly. Perhaps though, being hungry indicates you do need to up the fat?

whodunnit · 24/09/2013 22:15

Had a good day today

B 2 boiled eggs with mayo n cucmber
L ham wrapped around cheese spread
S pepperoni
D1 feta n olives n walnut halves
D2 green cabbage n broccoli with butter, sardine.

Have been frying everything in butter till no, but wonder if the idea is add butter at the end rather than cook in it. What do you think?

Ruprekt · 24/09/2013 22:30

B...2 eggs

L....chicken tikka with rocket and cream cheese

D....fajita chicken with creamy cheesey leeks and fried courgettes
3 pieces dark choc

Water

CiderwithBuda · 24/09/2013 23:40

Hi all.

Great result on bloods MrsHP.

I woke up late this morning so totally forgot to weigh again. And being a carby twat at the weekend has made last couple of days hard. But I have stick to bootcamp except for the water. Really need to sort that tomorrow.

Yesterday:
B - slice of ham with cream cheese and a slice of cheese
S - two slices of corned beef
Late lunch of celery with pâté
D - selection of Waitrose mini burgers with salad and coleslaw and guacamole

Today -
B - two slices ham with cream cheese
Out for coffee with a friend - American with cream and resisted her fruity flapjack!
Great shopping spree and ended up home late for lunch - had picnic plate of cold meat and coleslaw and egg mayo
D - DS wanted Dominos. I was very tempted. But had bolognaise with cheese instead.

MrsSnuffleupagus · 25/09/2013 06:11

Thanks googoo I was thinking the same to be honest....

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/09/2013 06:41

mrssnuffle if you are hungry then eat more and/or up the fat a bit - you shouldn't feel hungry and the beauty f this woe is that you never need to!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 25/09/2013 07:49

Whodunnit I tend to add my butter at the end, as I find it can burn.

I cook sliced mushrooms and onions in a little water for 10 mins or so to soften them, then add some butter to fry/brown them. I've always done it this way, the butter is a new addition though! Grin

Pleaseandthankyou · 25/09/2013 08:10

I am so glad I found the last boot camp. I have just had 2 eggs with a huge knob of butter and a large dollop of mayo . Delicious. Who would have thought you could eat like this and lose weight. Thanks all for all the inspiring posts. Was a bit worried about cholesterol. Will have it checked in a month or two

captainmummy · 25/09/2013 08:18

That's great news about the cholesterol, MrsHP!
please - she is not the first poster to have great blood results; - i can't think of a single poster who had bloods done who has had bad results (been LCing over a year) so I conclude that LCHF is NOT bad for your cholesterol! (cholesterol test themselves are flawed and no indicator of heart-problems, but that is by-the-by...)

bettybigballs · 25/09/2013 08:46

MrsHP - that's fantastic news, I love hearing how LC benefits overall health. There's still so much anti LC feeling out there that you do find yourself questioning it from time to time.

Having a good week so far, organisation is the biggest help for me, having lots of suitible food to hand to take to work or snack on makes a massive difference to my frame if mind towards this WOE.

B: cream cheese pancake with butter
L: either avocado and mozzerella salad or chicken kebab and salad
D: tbc - prob finishing off the leftover Bol from Monday - three nights in a row are a bit dull but I hate wasting food.

I made some cauliflower cheese and almond bites I saw on Pinterest last night- grim, total soggy, mouldy tasting disaster. Bloody Pinterest - makes lots of not so nice things look amazing!

cathyandclaire · 25/09/2013 09:06

Morning, weighing in late this week due to TOTM and a 3lb gain on Monday Sad anyway slooshed back buckets of water and am back to where I was...
B:bacon and egg
L: Braised cabbage and left over chicken
S: Celery and boursin
D: Pulled pork and salad
