Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

Sorry when I say dizzy I meant as in flu like, as in carb-flu...... Didn't get it this morning though. My erratic period arrived this morning too so it might have been PMS type stuff, and I'm knackered as ds2 has been really grumpy all week......

Mouseface · 31/07/2013 15:05

:D

Well done to anyone who can shred and keep it up. I did level one a few years ago before my disability really kicked in and jeez, it nearly killed me!

Thank you for answering my question about the numbers and symbols Eglute :)

I swear I posted about going shopping for low carb, no carb foods..... it's gone!

Anyway, we are back and I am armed with green peppers (checked the carbs and green are the lowest but still rather high), strawberries, raspberries are in the garden, greek yog, full fat, double cream, cheese, small pack of ham, roasted rather than plastic, lettuce, cucumber, shrooms, carrots, tuna steaks, chicken, full fat milk, back, pork sausages, and tonic water. Plus some limes to flavour said water and get some ice, tall glass, straw and pretend that it's something of a treat like a spritzer :)

I'm on my 3rd litre of water today so far but need to be careful, don't want to be caught short in the car picking mine up in a bit! :D

What are good low carb snacky foods that satisfy you? I crave sweet stuff atm.....

B - was an apple and litre of water

L - was ham salad, with cheese and lettuce, cucumber, and seafood sauce made with full fat mayo and a squidge of tomato sauce.

D - is going to be roasted chicken but I'm not sure what to have with it yet.

S - will be strawberries or some yog with vanilla extract.

My weight was the same 10st 4lb as last week, no surprise with the night away and not watching what I ate it being our anniversary.

I will keep an eye on the foods list and keep adding in stuff to my collection.

NewStartNewStory · 31/07/2013 15:57

I have only just had chance to sit down and eat lunch. Was really really ready for it tbh. drunk to much coffee again but needing to do an impression of the duracell bunny today and would already like to sit in the corner and sleep. trying to get sleep pattern sorted out again after a week of it being up the spout.

breakfast: scrambled eggs cooked in butter, 2 mini baby bells
lunch: salad with mayo, ham and cheese cubes.

Still 70kg which is surprising considering the slips last week. Slow and steady. This is a woe not a diet. WinkGrin

BIWI · 31/07/2013 18:28

Mouseface - you need to drop the apple pronto!

I need some help with the lack of energy /apetite!! I really don't fancy eating anything and I don't think I'm getting a healthy diet and I don't have the energy /motivation to cook anything :(

BIWI · 31/07/2013 18:45

Why do you think you aren't getting a healthy diet? What have you been eating?

OP posts:
BeenieBaby · 31/07/2013 18:52

It's usually a fritata for breakfast and for the rest of the day I just pick at things- boiled eggs, some olives, some cheese, maybe a small piece of smoked fish, a small handful of nuts. But that's it! I can't face a large (or medium sized) meal. I jut don't feel like eating anymore!

BerylStreep · 31/07/2013 19:11

Beenie me too. I cba to eat.

StuntNun · 31/07/2013 19:20

Maybe you need to eat more fat Beenie?

B: strawberries and Greek yoghurt
S: two chicken drumsticks
L: two beef burgers and salad
D: salmon baked in butter, steamed broccoli with melted butter poured over, a few slices of carrot as a treat

BeenieBaby · 31/07/2013 19:45

It's a bit depressing really... I think I realize now that I'm very much an emotional eater- I use it to deal with stress and am so used to having something whenever dc act up. I now feel a bit lost without that comfort... Any suggestions for replacing this and finding another emotional crutch?? (Please don't say avoid stressful situations as that would mean I lock the dc up at home and hit the shops!)

StuntNun · 31/07/2013 19:52

In a fit of desperation I tried mixing 100% chocolate with double cream to make a ganache. It was horrible! Nothing like chocolate. So I had a tiny piece of milk chocolate but it tasted horribly sweet. I think I'll have to compromise with some 85% stuff as the 70% is a bit too morish.

WeShouldOpenABar · 31/07/2013 20:43

I know its key to keep to veg that are under 5g carbs per 100g , have I hot that right? But can you apply that rule to other foods with nutritional values on the pack , like I know I can have chicken fillet but if it has a sauce on is checking the carb content enough?

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 31/07/2013 21:55

I've noticed my appetite had shrunk. Not craving sweet things but carby things, making fairy cakes this morning with ds didn't help! DH gets back at weekend from working away for two weeks, and I just know he will want a takeaway pizza at some point Shock

B: 3 scrambles eggs and fried mushrooms, in butter
L: Caesar salad without croutons with Helmans Caesar dressing and chicken pieces and a 6 apetina cheese cubes
D: 2 scrambled eggs and 4 turkey rashers fried in butter
S: 3 babybel mini cheeses

BIWI · 31/07/2013 21:58

Cheese - not much veg going on in your day!

WeShould - you can sort of apply that rule - but please remember that the vast majority of your carbs should be coming from veg/salad, rather than processed foods/ingredients.

WeShouldOpenABar · 31/07/2013 22:14

Thanks biwi they do in the main but when I had to unexpectedly buy lunch today I followed that rule and hoped for the best Smile

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 31/07/2013 22:22

BIWI I have to admit I couldn't face any veg today. Have cauliflower cheese on menu tomorrow and will get a bit more creative Smile

LilyAmaryllis · 31/07/2013 22:32

Mouseface if you eat fruit for breakfast you will be ferociously hungry all morning, no wonder you were craving sweet things. Many years ago I did my own stupid version of a low carb diet, and I ate only fruit for breakfast and forebade myself to snack til my low carb lunch. It was very effective in losing weight but it was also NO FUN AT ALL being hungry all morning and also in later years I couldn't face it as a method of weight loss. Or, I'd eat fruit for breakfast then fall flat in a plate of food mid-morning. Anyway, suffice to say, I am completely won round by BIWI's clever 10 rules. A WOE where you don't feel hungry cos you don't eat carby stuff, including carby fruit, is one its not painful to be continuing.

PS - I would imagine tomato sauce is quite carby?

Beeniebaby I know what you mean about the emotional crutch of food and worse still I am becoming aware of giving my children the same idea. Today while we were out DD was upset, crying because of a disappointment, in the end I said why not eat your cake (we'd bought some cakes earlier in the day). While being so aware that this was emotional eating in action. Worked though, she cheered up.

thenightsky · 31/07/2013 22:42

Only on here I can fess up that I actually carve off slices of pure butter to nibble on Blush

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/07/2013 23:54

nightsky I scoop out little spoonfuls of unsalted butter, then dip the spoon in the marmite and lick it off as I suck the butter. Repeated ad infinitum. I used to miss toast and marmite, now I prefer the lovely cold creamy butter with the fantastic saltiness of the marmite. Grin

Food today
B/L - mozzarella and gran padana cheese, ham, tomatoes, olives and olive oil
S - almond butter
D - squid alla puttanesca with courgette 'pasta'
3 glasses wine, despite going to a call today which really brought home to me the havoc alcohol abuse can wreak on a person and their family. Hmm Hmm Have been feeling anxious and odd all day (premenstrual) and then this call was really upsetting and a glass of chilled white whilst cooking dinner just seemed so tempting.

dollywould · 01/08/2013 00:38

Crabby I think what you do is incredible. I saw your post earlier about the accident you attended. Thank God there are people like you in this world Flowers

And bloody hell it puts my 'stressful' few days in perspective..First chance I've had in a couple of days to post here but I want to make sure I check in regularly. It'll keep me on the straight and narrow!

Vino did you make the pancakes? What did you think? I thought they were v eggy - no kidding yourself that they were proper pancakes but fine enough. I don't think I could face them all week...

StuntNun Congratulations! That's great news. You must be delighted.

Lily I thought that too about the squash but it was a recipe on the Bootcamp Recipe thread - I added more spices to fool myself I actually was eating Bombay potatoes on a rainy day. Absolutely gorgeous.

In fact, I'm working my way through the Bootcamp Recipe thread: I had the Thai meatballs for lunch today with lettuce, the 'Amazing Fish Pie' yesterday (And that title doesn't undersell it, does it? It's most fantastic sauce) and roast cod in Parma ham on courgettes for dinner tonight. DH can't quite believe that our best meals recently have all come from that thread. Some of the best recipes I've used in a long time!

I am going to investigate The World of Flaxseed tomorrow. Hope you all have the lowest of low carb days...

BIWI · 01/08/2013 08:31

The only thing to be aware of about the Bootcamp recipe thread (fabulous though it is) that recipes are mostly posted without carb counts. If you know that a particular ingredient is carby, then it makes sense that the whole recipe could end up being carby too!

Name change to show my commitment to getting rid of the carbs!

Woke up today not feeling hungry, at all. This had never happened before. Sneaky peek at the scales shows a movement in the right direction. This is all motivating me so much. With previous diets I've been through hell for a week to lose 1lb at most.

Have a good day peeps!

Eglute · 01/08/2013 09:08

Good morning..

Beenie - sorry about the way you feel. TBH reading your post I felt relieved.. I am feeling completely the same way. First week was very easy to me but now I fell off the wagon and I cannot jump back :(
It is way too much meat for me, I was never a big meat eater.. too much fish, not enough veg.. If I could cook my meals at home I would be better but I thought I will stop this WOE until Monday and then my kitchen should be ready so I will make courgette pasta, cauliflower cheese, swede and celeriac mash.. That is all I want to eat. I am sick of chicken salad and smoked salmon salad and spinach and even mayo which I used to love.. The oily taste in my mouth makes my want no fat.
I started proper craving for carbs :( eventho I was never a huge carb lover.. well I never had sweet tooth but yesterday I had a glass of milk (never drank milk in my life) with biscuits! I am dying for chocolates and grapes as well.. is my body trying to say something?
and my energy levels are very low.. I am so disappointed with myself :( Every morning I wake up thinking that's it, I can do it and I am ok all day but in the evening I drink milk with biscuits!

I do drink a lot of water but it is not helping.. oh dear.. HELP!!!

Eglute · 01/08/2013 09:09

Cheese you sound cheerful.. that is great! Well done :)

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/08/2013 09:56

eglute rather than fall off into the biscuits, why don't you try having more veg and slightly less meat if that is how you feel. Eating a small portion or carrots, or butternut squash has got to be miles better than chocolate, biscuits, pasta etc... I know that in the winter I have carrots once a week (Sunday roast) and it doesn't stall me, I just don't have them every day if that makes sense. Drink lots of water as well, but of course once you fall off the wagon the addictive nature of sugar and carbs makes it hard to get back on and you have to work hard if it is what you want. For me I can't drink alcohol at all really, without wanting to eat carbs the next day so I just don't have it now (or rarely).

beenie I think with the emotional eating, I feel like that too. I have worked hard to try and remember that eating it doesn't help solve anything, it doesn't change what made me stressed and it just worsens it the next day when I hate myself for having done it. I don't know what the answer is, but I am trying to convince myself that being slimmer will make me feel better and less stressed so focusing on that for now!
