Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

I'm making salt and chilli spare ribs tonight. The recipe is a little involved but it's very low carb. Grin It calls for deep frying in vegetable oil but I'm wondering whether lard would be better. I usually put olive oil in the deep fat fryer but DH has it filled with sunflower oil at the moment which is a bit of a no no.

B: strawberries and yoghurt
L: beef salad
S: pork scratchings
D: cod baked in cream and butter, roasted broccoli, julienne courgettes fried in butter

The spare ribs will be our traditional Monday night treat once the three boys are in bed.

BeenieBaby · 29/07/2013 18:50

eglute I stocked up on 90% dark choc and have a tiny piece whenever I crave choc or sweets. You may find that helpful!

Vinividivino · 29/07/2013 19:00

Eglute- tomorrow is another day. Forget about it and move on. (hope you enjoyed it at the time!Grin )

Dolly as a fellow newbie, welcome!

So my mishap yesterday didn't result in the weigh-in shocker I was expecting, actually lost another half a pound. Good motivation to continue on. Went to the gym today but was knackered so it was a bit of half hearted effort.

B - 2 fried eggs, slice of smoked salmon, 3 frankfurters, mushrooms (oh, that sounds a lot but I wolfed it in 5 mins flat Blush

S - avocado, 3 slices of cheese

L- stir fried cabbage, tofu and cauliflower

D - minced pork, fried with garlic and sliced green beans, wrapped in lettuce leaves like a spring roll. Yum!

Eglute · 29/07/2013 20:30

You are the best girls in the world. Thank you for your support and advises. It made me feel so much better.. Ok. I will start again tomorrow.

I think not having hot food made me fall of the wagon.. I will have to somehow survive another week. I feel like I do not fancy anything I am allowed to eat.

Thank you very much girls xxxxx

dollywould · 29/07/2013 20:32

Eglute I think you did really well, to be honest. If that'd been me a week ago, I'd've thought 'Sod it. Might as well have a Bounty. And a Star bar.' And you didn't do that. So you are already streets ahead of me!

StuntNun I love your name! And thank you so much for your advice - that's really helpful. I thought dates would be bad but I thought they'd be better than biscuits Blush That's such a clear explanation of low-carbing too. And God, your salt and chilli spare ribs sounds delicious! Can I ask why sunflower oil is a no no? And your cod recipe sounds delicious too.

Vinividivino (Another great name!) Thank you for the nice welcome - I felt a bit nervous dipping my toe in here - you are all doing so well. That's a great dinner!

I had pork stir-fry for dinner: tenderloin pork, bean sprouts, cauliflower and green beans. Gorgeous but I suspect a bit carbie with those bean sprouts. DH also made a tray of jerk chicken drumsticks as a snack if I need it (we're freezing most of them but so good to know they are there). They are calling to me from the fridge but if I keep Mumsnetting, I think I can get to bed without cracking...

Can I ask what you think of what I've planned for tomorrow, seeing as this will be Bootcamp Day 2?

B: cream cheese pancakes, full fat Greek yoghurt and a dollop of PB (Is PB off limits until the third week?) Would raspberries be a better substitute?

L: Spiced butternut squash, from the MN recipe thread

D: the MN recipe thread fish pie.

And I've got those chicken drumsticks for a snack.

Is that ok, do you think? (I am doing cartwheels at the thought of coffee with cream tomorrow. As long as I've got that, I'm sorted, I reckon...)

DespicableMa · 29/07/2013 21:03

Evening all - I have a shit load of weight to lose (think more than a whole person) and I'm sure low-carbing can only be a good thing. Am off to have a mooch at your spreadsheets...wish me luck! Grin

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 29/07/2013 21:30

I have had an up and down few days, good day Saturday, woke up Sunday feeling light headed and hungover ( I wasn't! ) then sundry went a bit haywire as we went to a vegetarian restaurant for a family party and I struggled to stick to lc, and today I have stuck to it well but I think I might be eating too much fat? Need to curb the amount of cheese I snack on, as I was quite hungry today.

I'll be brave and tell you what I ate today......
B; two boiled eggs
Lunch two tins tuna in green salad, with Hellmans Caesar dressing
Dinner sainsburys chicken with pepper marinade (just under 10g carbs altogether) with green salad and Hellmans Caesar dressing
Snacks 3 baby bel and some Boursin garlic and her and one boiled egg mashed with mayo.

Typing that make me realise I have too much mayo?

Think I need to be stricter tomorrow. Would like to lose at least a couple of pounds this week. Might been have to start measuring or weighing what I eat 😞 total Greek yogurt for breakfast, cauliflower cheese with Philly stir in sauce, dinner quorn chicken pieces with something.

This is hard! But to blow my own trumpet, I haven't had any coke or squash since Saturday, which is amazing. And ds didn't finish his toast - I have never moved so fast putting the toast in the bin before I scoffed it!

Can we have tea? I am still drinking tea, trying to cut down the milk though.

Feel so much better for sharing 😊

LilyAmaryllis · 29/07/2013 21:49

Cheeseandmushroom though I'm no expert it looks fine to me. In the first few weeks my appetite was higher. Its lower now (though the warmer weather could also be having that effect). The idea is not to be hungry, and if you are hungry, eat something low-carb. You seem to be doing that fine.

Dolly I was under the imporession that butternut squash was on the carby side. I could be wrong if you've found a low carb recipe.

My DH is lean and fit (partly his lucky genetics, partly due to the physical labour of his job). He's been joining me on low-carb dinners. But NOT lunch, breakfast (his breakfast is often a 485 calorie double snickers on the way to a site), plus he often troughs through loads of biscuits of an evening. Tonight he said "I've never had such muscle definition, dropping the carbs at dinner has stripped out what small amount of fat I still had". May I say a very loud GRRRRRRRRR

CrabbyBigBottom · 29/07/2013 23:42

Stunt I'm not sure what nuts the brie wedges were coated in, but they were delicious! It gave a lovely crunch to them, nicer than breadcrumbs and with more texture.

Beenie I do the emotional eating too, and I definitely need to feel that my food is a treat and something to look forward to. I think that's why this WOE works well for me, because I enjoy all the fat, cream, cheese etc! When I've been off the wagon a bit or drinking too much wine, I definitely find I want to eat even when I'm not really hungry.

Eglute when I was adjusting to this WOE I had days of feeling like you describe - hungry but not fancying/wanting anything that I'm allowed to eat. I still get like that sometimes. I try and force myself to eat something because I know that if I let myself get really hungry then I make bad choices. I think it's your body behaving like a toddler who is hungry but refuses to eat its dinner because it wants pudding instead - it's your inner carb-monster stamping its foot and demanding carby food. Wink

Lily my DP has lost weight eating my LCHF evening meals but still eating what he likes. I think men do lose weight a bit easier, especially if they're active. I'm not sure of the context of your Grrrrrrrrr though, considering he's now got no fat left over his amazing muscle definition, could it be more of a Rrrrrrrrraow!? Grin

Well I drank too much over the weekend as usual, but my food choices were good after naan-gate. Don't know why but I'm feeling very bloated today. I ate loads, though was bloated before that anyway -
B/L - home made pesto with courgette, tomatoes, chorizo and chicken. Have had pesto and veg for lunch last few days.
S - lots of greek yoghurt with double cream, raspberries and redcurrants, flaxseed and vanilla. I ate much too much (in afternoon and then again as pudding).
D - leftovers from weekend - bit of steak and some roast chicken with mashed celeriac and roast broccoli with a mixture of mushroom sauce from the steak on Saturday and gravy from the roast chicken last night! Blush
Loads of water today.

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 30/07/2013 08:45

Wow carb flu this morning! Didn't think I would make it down the stairs Hmm scoffed a baby bel and some Greek yogurt feel bit better. What do you guys add to Greek yogurt to make it a bit more interesting? I remember someone saying vanilla essence but not sure what type? Would love to add honey but I know you would tell me off.....Smile

Eglute · 30/07/2013 09:17

BeenieBaby - That is brilliant advice; I will have to stock up 90% dark chock for a rainy day. It will be nice to have it with my double espresso for breakfast sometimes. Thank you 

Vinividivino - TBH I didn?t even remember the taste. I wasn?t even chewing properly :)))

Dolly Welcome to low carbing world  And no I am not streets ahead you.. I did think ?sod it? and had 2 slices of pizza and few sips of beer (which tasted too sweet!) and a biscuit. --I wish I had some grapes too tho?hahaha

Crabby - that is an excellent way of look at situations like this..body behaving like toddler )) How do you make pesto?

Toastie - I thought of maybe adding a some poppy seeds.. I?m not sure if we are allowed poppy seeds tho.. and Honey is a no no

Good morning to everybody.. new day new start huh..? 

I felt very hungry this morning and had salami selection on my knees while driving to work! I made a huge mug of hot drink with kallo chicken stock pot instead of coffee. It tasted like soup and it was really filling. I had it with 2 baby bells o now I am full and happy and ready to start the day 

Have a good one girls

StuntNun · 30/07/2013 09:33

Great news for me today, that's the first stone off after six weeks and one day. I'm over the moon. Just 2.5 pounds to reach my first target of getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight by the end of the school holidays.

It's funny how my meals have reversed. Now every meal at home is delicious and tasty because I'm having to put a lot more thought into what I'm eating. But eating out is a chore! I was going to take the kids out to Pizza Express for lunch because I have a discount voucher but I looked at the menu and there's really nothing there for me. Even the salads all seem to have yellow peppers or a syrupy sauce.

LilyAmaryllis · 30/07/2013 09:40

Crabby ! It should have been a sexy Rrrrrrrrrraow shouldn't it but I'm afraid it was a Grrrrrrrrrr of irritation. He doesn't need to lose weight. Hummph. Well I guess you're right I don't know my luck in the Rrrrrrrraow department!

I'm sitting down to a long day of pressured work (9 things to finish off and this is last day of work before holiday). In the days of yore I used to have a terrible snacking habit while working, if there was something that required thought I'd have to do the thinking while eating. No wonder I got fat. I used to try all sorts (maybe distract myself with chewing gum etc). Since this WOE I have surprised myself by working for whole mornings without snacking. Today I did feel the old temptations though, perhaps because I have a string of 9 tasks that all just need a snack with them! Blahhhhghgh the psychology of food

On a positive note I looked in the bathroom mirror while having my shower this morning and my bottom seems to have disappeared!

Right, on with task 1 which involves phoning a colleague who is not my favourite. Wish me luck.

Eglute · 30/07/2013 09:46

StuntNun - FlowersFlowersWink look at you! Well done!!!!!!!
You could still do to pizza express and ask them to bring you olive oil instead of salad dressing and add let?s say cucumber instead of yellow pepper :) It should not be a problem.

LilyAmaryllis - best of luck to you today.. Holiday starts tomorrow!!! :)

LilyAmaryllis · 30/07/2013 09:54

Thank you Eglute scary-colleague wasn't in, so its on to task 2 while I wait for her to call me back...

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 30/07/2013 10:03

Lily well done on the disappearing bottom! Hope mine disappears too! Grin

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 30/07/2013 10:04

I love pizza express too stuntnun, thought the Caesar salad without the croutons, doughsticks and dressing ( take your own) wouldn't be too bad? Have I got that wrong?

BeenieBaby · 30/07/2013 10:19

Into week 2 and i've now lost 2kg in just over a week. Im now starting to worry that i'll pile it all back on if I smell cake.... Once I reach goal weight what happens?? Is this woe a lon term plan? Or do we add in non processed carbs?

Eglute · 30/07/2013 10:46

www.fatsecret.com/recipes/pepperoni-pizza/Default.aspx I found low carb pizza recipe

Vinividivino · 30/07/2013 12:55

cheeseandmushroomtoastie- that's exactly my problem too! It's an instinctive reaction to finish my toddler's food off for her. Like it's in-built. I wonder if it stems from the days when my mum would tell me never to leave an empty plate. Or just innate greediness!

dolly how were the cream cheese pancakes for breakfast? Am thinking of making those too. Were they like the real thing?

Beenie, Lily and StuntNun - well done! How exciting! Get twirling in front of the mirror, girls!

Eglute thank you for the pizza recipe - definitely giving that one a go!

Treating myself to a Pret salad today - the Chef's Italian chicken, tuna Nicoise and Crayfish and Avocado are all reasonably low carb (without the dressings) even if you have to remortgage a limb to afford to eat them regularly

Stuntnun - I share your pain re Pizza Express, it's a regular haunt in our family. Perhaps we should all start a thread on the best chain restaurants to eat at if you're LCing and what is the best option to have? Would that be useful? May be a short thread!!!!

thenightsky · 30/07/2013 13:54

BeenieBaby don't fret too much about piling it on when you smell cake after reaching target weight. I reached target in mid-March and have only moved 2lb either side despite holidays and eating out, drinking sessions with mates etc. I am strict for 90% of the time and this seems to work for me.

Mouseface · 30/07/2013 18:09

Hello all :)

I've fallen well off the wagon with having days out and a night away, CBA days, losing the will to live with a toddler whose routine has changed so he's gone flip, bing, bong around the place and turned into 'VileBoy - Master Of All Things Mean & Nasty Just For Mummy' Hmm

So, it's food shopping tomorrow now that we are home and I am going to try my best to eat what's on the 'Allowed Foods' bit because I really am fed up now. On - off - on - off - on - off.......

Here he is again, demanding me so off I go! I'll try to come back later but to all of you who are feeling fed up, I'll hold your hand.

To those doing so well, fab news! I too shall do well at this, low carbing really is the only thing that works for me. :) x

Mouseface · 30/07/2013 18:24

Also - what does the &#numbers mean please? :)
