Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

Oh Mouse good luck with getting restarted and with Vileboy!

Cheese and Vini I think the worst children's leftovers is when they don't finish their breakfast cereal. Toast you can put on bird table or in bin. Cereal is too soggy for bin, too solid for sink plughole. If you could just finish it yourself, so much easier... I've resorted to sieving it so I can put it in the bin. The Mad Cereal Siever!

Today:
B - fried mushrooms, scrambled 2 eggs
L - ahem... I am thinking of this as a Medium Carb lunch (surely not as bad as a sandwich?) Carrots and houmous dip
S - cheese
D - smoked mackerel, salad

I've done 3 of my 9 work tasks. No "on holiday" feeling for me until they are done, the only thing is I no longer have any child-care. So! I will shortly be cracking on with task 4 this evening.

StuntNun · 30/07/2013 21:05

I bought a new belt today, it's in the first hole. I can't wait for that to change over time!

B: strawberries and Greek yoghurt
Brunch: bacon and fried mushrooms
L: Subway steak and cheese salad
D: beef sausages (are beef sausages better than pork?) and fried courgettes
S: two chicken drumsticks

I fried the courgettes in butter but they were very bitter. Am I doing something wrong or buying the wrong type (Tesco value)?

thenightsky · 30/07/2013 21:24

I find courgettes bitter sometimes too. They seem best roasted amongst other veg like aubergines, peppers etc.

NewStartNewStory · 30/07/2013 22:07

I always blanch courgettes before i use them in stuff. I have a lovely recipe for a courgette bake somewhere which just requires the removal of the bread crumbs.

from memory:
Blanch courgette slices in boiling water approx 5mins (until slightly tender)
Drain and lay in bottom of oven proof dish
chuck in some chopped leek/onion/shallot, mushrooms, seasoning (salt pepper herbs (mixed/basil as you prefer)
Add some chopped toms (just enough to cover)
Cover with cheese cook until melted at about 180C

Not sure about the toms but sure someone could clarify it

NewStartNewStory · 30/07/2013 22:07

*if they are allowed.

BerylStreep · 30/07/2013 23:12

I am miles behind on the thread, and not sure that I'll catch up, but I cycled 20 miles this evening, and my friend told me she could see the weight I had lost. Stepped on the scales tonight (post work out, obviously) and it was 89.6kg which is my lowest so far on BC ignoring the fact it may be down to sweat lost.

I made IPD's lamb curry through the week, and it is absolutely delicious Will post the recipe if anyone is interested.

Will try to catch up to see how everyone else is getting on.

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/07/2013 00:23

Hoorray Stunt and Beryl Well Done on weight lost! Flowers

Lily if you concentrate very hard on that muscle definition, maybe you can turn the Grrrrrrrr into a Rrrrrrrraow! Wink Hope you managed you day of intense work without carbs.

Eglute to make pesto I buy a bunch or a large plant of basil, and strip the leaves off the stalks. A little bit of stalk is ok but I take out the big ones. Then I gently toast about 50g pine nuts in a dry pan until they're going golden. You can make it in a pestle and mortar but I use my little food processor. Break up about 50g of parmesan or gran padana cheese (maybe more than that, I never weigh it) and blitz in the processor with a peeled, crushed clove of garlic. When it's in crumbs, add the basil and pine nuts and plenty of olive oil. I often put mozzarella in too, or you could even add some cream cheese if you like a creamier texture. Blitz it all together in the food processor and there's your pesto. It's great with courgette 'pasta', fried tomatoes and mushrooms. Smile

Food today
B - greek yoghurt with berries, flaxseed, vanilla and double cream
S - almond butter
L - tuna, cheddar and pesto patties
D - squid alla puttanesca with courgette 'pasta'
P - more greek yoghurt

I think I'm eating too much.
2lbs on at my weekly weigh in. I feel quite bloated still and am premenstrual.

Someone asked about vanilla, I think? I got a Taylor & Colledge vanilla bean grinder which is brilliant. Got mine from Waitrose but tried to find link and can't. It was £6 which I was a bit Shock at, but it's lasted since May and is nowhere near empty so was worth it I think. If you use extract you have to be careful it isn't sweetened.

Stunt I've started slicing the courgettes very thinly, either as strips with the peeler or just into thin slices with the knife, then I pat them a bit drier with kitchen towel (and leave them to dry if using as pasta substitute) before frying them in butter. I find they don't go soggy that way and retain a bit of crunch.

Mouse sorry to hear Nemo is Vileboy atm. I expect it's the adjustment to finishing term? Make sure you do some meal planning for lots of delicious low carb things to go on your shopping list tomorrow! Smile

LilyAmaryllis · 31/07/2013 02:29

Well done Beryl on amazing 20 mile bike ride! I couldn't do that at the moment.

2.30am and 6 out of 9 work tasks done. I will be grumpy Mcgrizzly tomorrow on lack of sleep. Going to get some sleep now!

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/07/2013 08:32

Hello! crabby for me Greek yoghurt deffo slows me down/stops me losing and I have never had flaxseed for the same reason, maybe try cutting back on those?

I am trying to have a super strict week before holidays on Saturday - so far so good!

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 31/07/2013 08:37

I had a lot of Greek yogurt yesterday and this morning woke up fine, which makes me think I had too much dairy?mhad about three baby bel too so will cut back on the cheese today and see if it helps. If I wake up dizzy etc I know I'm doing well on LC....

BIWI · 31/07/2013 08:39

Eh? I'd be a bit worried if I was waking up feeling dizzy. That isn't right at all. Have you had your blood pressure checked?

Morning everyone. Back from holiday and will be strictly bootcamping for the next wee while. Managed fine in Helsinki but then we stayed with friends and ate what they cooked for us. All very delicious but many carbs were eaten. Surprisingly my stomach managed fine.

Will jump on the scales tomorrow and see what the damage is, was 9st 9 when we left.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 31/07/2013 10:02

Hello all! Have been pretty good apart from small slip up yesterday when I ate an M&S caramel mini roll thing. It wasn't even nice! In my defence, I was fairly sure I was pregnant as AF was 5 days late. She has arrived now, though, thank goodness.

Please can someone put me back on the current spreadsheet? I can't do it from my phone. I started on Sun 21 July at 142lbs/ 10 stone 2, and now I am 136.5/ 9 stone 10.5. I am v happy to be this weight - goal is 9 stone before my birthday in October. I think I'm going to make it one cup of tea with milk per day and cut down the dairy.

CJCregg · 31/07/2013 10:18

Good morning lovely Low Carbers Grin

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I eat, roughly:

B: bacon & eggs, or a bit of Greek yoghurt
L: ham and a bit of cheese
D: fish or meat with salad and/or vegetables

I try to use butter (still makes me twitch, though I'm getting used to it) and olive oil, and have started making sauces eg mushrooms and cream to go with dinner. I occasionally have a very, very few strawberries with cream.

I do have coffee - addicted - but use cream as often as possible. Occasionally with milk, though I try to minimise this. I'm drinking at least 2 litres of water a day.

I am totally stalled. I lose a pound or two, then it comes back on. I can't seem to permanently shift any weight.

Help me, O wise ones Grin

Ruprekt · 31/07/2013 10:19

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/07/2013 11:59

Welcome Wirecat. Smile

Hello and welcome CJ. Just looking at what you've written, what strikes me straight away is that you're eating a lot of processed meat if you're having bacon and ham most days, and that there's not a lot of veg going on there. Also, some people on here peddle the vicious lie that dairy can stall weight loss (I refuse to believe is as I refuse to contemplate reducing my dairy Wink), so you might want to consider cutting out the yoghurt and cheese for a bit and seeing if that makes a difference for you.

Also, are you sure you're eating enough food, and enough fat... just ham and cheese for lunch doesn't seem like much (although I often have ham, cheese, olives and tomatoes for lunch, so I can't talk!), and fish and salad wouldn't provide you with a lot of calories or fat for dinner. If you're body senses that it isn't getting enough calories, it might be conserving your fat reserves.

CJCregg · 31/07/2013 12:22

Thanks, Crabby.

I suppose what's difficult to gauge is exactly how much is the right amount Grin - how do you work out that balance?

It feels like I'm eating quite a lot of vegetables - if I'm hungry during the day I'll pick on olives, cucumber, peppers etc as well as salad/veg with dinner - but I guess I'm scared of overdoing the cream/fat side of things. Years and years and years of low-fat dieting makes it incredibly difficult to adjust my brain.

I will cut down on the processed meat - I just love bacon Grin. I tend to have a small lunch because I can't be bothered to cook twice so I just grab something snacky and quick.

WireCat · 31/07/2013 12:57

CJCregg I know what you mean about the low fat. It feels wrong to eat fat.

I was a bit horrified when I was cooking my mushrooms in oil as normally dry fry them. Same with my scrambled egg!

Have jus bought butter, cream, chicken thighs & legs. Feels wrong. Should be frylite & chicken breasts! Wink

Secondsop · 31/07/2013 13:05

Finally broken an 18 day stall and lost 2lb. That's at least 13lb (I didn't weigh myself before the first week as I was too scared...) in 12 weeks which I know isn't as fast as a lot of you but I'm very happy with that; i have a LOT of weight to lose so am in this for the long game so am pleased to have found a way of eating that is actually sustainable for me, as I feel I could eat this way forever. I've had a couple of small cheats but I've found I can get over them and get back on track without thinking "well that's blown it I might as well eat all this bread now".

Eglute · 31/07/2013 13:19

Lily - you are doing well with tasks !! Holiday is nearly here..I am jealous

Mouse - good luck to you girl Brew

Newstory - thanks for the recipe it sounds delicious, I will try it as soon as I get my kitchen sorted.. I cannot wait

Beryl - 20 miles! Wow!! Mission impossible to me 

Crabby - you are a star. Thank you very much. I will stop buying pesto and will do it myself. It sounds great. I guess you could do something similar with aubergines or sundried tomatoes (oh we are not allowed sundried tomatoes!)

Cheese - dizziness in the morning might be a sign of anaemia.. be careful

WireCat - welcome! The more the merrier 

I was not happy with myself this morning.. I had herring from a jar for breakfast that I bought in Lidl yesterday and while eating and enjoying it I realised it has sweetener! I have only checked carbs before buying which was 0.. is it that bad??

Chicken and spinach salad with black olives and mayo dressing was delicious and fatty lunch. I hope it will keep me going until dinner. Not sure what to eat in the evening.. I just want something homemade and hot.. courgette pasta sounds so tempting..

I hope you are all well and happy 

Eglute · 31/07/2013 13:20

oh yeah the numbers supposed to be smily faces!

CJCregg · 31/07/2013 13:33

Are we not allowed sun-dried tomatoes? Shock

Eglute · 31/07/2013 13:49

Tomatoes are quite carby so I have been told to be carefull.. It is ok in moderation I guess

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 31/07/2013 14:02

Hello again. I feel like a bit of a dilettante flitting between here and 5:2. I'm low carb all the time - sometimes strict sometimes Bootcamp light and fasting once or twice a week (500-600 calories). Put fasting on hold for next ten days as on holiday but exercising each morning in fasted state then having late breakfast or early lunch. Still BF so not doing hardcore low carb all the time.

Anyway it's working as am ten pounds down in 3 weeks and dropped from bulging 14 to a size 12.

Was eating like this pre pregnancy and so happy to be back as it really works for me:

Basically eating meat fish eggs green veg salad liberally, with lots of butter, olive oil dressing and coconut oil, and the fat on meat. In moderation - sour cream, Greek yogurt, hard cheese, nuts, berries, odd half apple and dry red, white wine or G&t at weekends/ holiday nights. No low fat, sugar, grains, artificial things.

Exercise is Shred plus swimming.

This board is really good.
