Week 5 - summer low carb bootcamp

Right chaps, while BIWI is drinking prosecco in sunny Italy away being busy and important, I'm your supply teacher for the next couple of days. BIWI has given me temporary responsibility for the Big Stick, so no messing about at the back there!

Well done on getting to week five, it's not easy and despite the fab support on here you've done this yourself, so remember how far you've come.

Please record your weight on the spreadsheet and marvel at your progress!

Temptations will come along, especially over bank holidays and half term treats, but remember that you're doing this for yourself, so be kind to yourself by not giving in to the temptation from things that do you harm and risk derailing you, as every time you look after yourself in this way it get easier. If you have a wobble, post on here - we'll remind you of all the tasty things you can have instead and why.

L...fab salad of lettuce, cucumber, buffalo mozz, pulled pork, chicken and ff mayo

S...natural yog with creme fraiche and dbl cream with blueberries

Off to a cheese/wine thing tonight....cheese and no wine for me!!

Crabby - you aren't eating much are you? Why do you feel you're eating too much?!

Go back to Bootcamp. Print out the rules. And follow them to the letter. That way you won't be hungry and you are much less likely to start craving carbs.

AND STEP AWAY FROM THE CHOCOLATE!

The only thing that you may have a problem with is the amount of dairy - this is something that can cause people to stall, but there is no problem with eating meat or fatty food - this is what we are aiming for on a low carb diet.

Went to a street party BBQ today - brilliant for LC!

Breakfast - 2 eggs,scrambled
Lunch - bbq chicken, sausage, salad, (wine) chili, no beans,

Dinner - not hungry, had some Lidl yog.

BIWI the problem is that I'm quite finicky about my food and if I don't fancy something, then I just can't stomach it. So the problem is that I'll go to the fridge and there's nothing I fancy that doesn't have a carb component (ie to eat boiled/scrambled eggs I want toast with it, things like bolognese I want pasta with it etc), so I end up just snacking on cheese and tomatoes or something. So I'm hungry but have no appetite for what I'm allowed, if that makes sense. Confused And I love fat (cream, butter, oil, not fatty meat though), but lately I've been finding myself gagging slightly when eating fatty meals.

crabby I get like that for a few days once I've had alcohol or carbs, you have to be super strict and drink loads of water and then in about 4 days I am all fine again. It just shows how addictive carbs are to some of us I think.

If you fancy bolognaise (or meatballs) and pasta, then I've found (after seeing it suggested here) that courgette cut into thin ribbons and fried in butter works well.

I bought a julienne peeler from Amazon for a couple of quid, and it makes perfect spaghetti shaped courgette strips.

MrsH I know it's the white wine that sets off the cravings again. It's always been my downfall. Sad

I use a cheese slice or a potato peeler to make the thin ribbons. It also helps if you scoop out some of the seedy bits as they can make it a bit watery.

Just had a big plate of avocado, mozzarella and tomato with olive oil drizzled over for supper. Went super off piste this afternoon though as we took my friend and her DH (who is from South America and had never been to the coast in the UK) over to Swanage and so had fish (but no chips!) and an ice cream. But we had such a beautiful day, walked for miles and was glorious weather. I think the difference is that I very consciously chose to eat those things, enjoyed them in the sun with good company, and now straight back on it with no regrets. This is a bit of a revelation for me as I'd normally use it as an excuse to go well off the wagon, but has been easy to sit and have my gorgeous salad even though DP got KFC on the way home from dropping our guests at the station! So I might not lose tomorrow but still feel I have learned something good (please don't get the stick out BIWI!)

I had today
B- scrambled eggs
L- avocado, cheese and vinaigrette
D- BBQ-pork steaks, grilled halloumi in oil, lime and caper dressing, salad

I'm feeling ok following yesterday's booze, and have no reason to fall off the wagon this week, fingers crossed!

Oh and thanks for the bicarbonate in water tip (though it tastes FOUL) - am trying to just flush it out without going to the docs... And whoever mentioned Coral Reef - I love that place, grew up nearby. I once won a year's membership in a competition when I was little and it was basically my proudest achievement ever Grin

crabby i am having exactly the same problem - and for the same reasons! (wine last night) and tonight i'd had enough of not eating with the family so i just tucked in and shared the giant mushroom pizza that DH had brought home to save me from having to cook...

i am very Sad that i don't seem to be able to stick at this any more. i'm not a cook, and i haven't a clue about what's in the food i eat (ie whether it's carb-heavy etc) - i also have a problem eating fatty meat/butter (though have come to love eggs in the past month!) i bought the total yoghurt but it was far too rich (to the point of making me gag), i find the lidl one much more acceptable. i also find i am looking longingly at the freshly squeezed orange juice in the fridge - and at the fruit in the fruit bowl...

will weigh in tomorrow but am not expecting any movement unless it's upward (also my TOTM). i'm sorry this isn't helpful just moaning but i will take on board what you say MrsHP (i realise that it's no good being half-hearted about this WOE and then expecting to be able to drink alcohol) - it just undoes anything good i've achieved during the day and makes me crave carbs the next day.

hope everyone else has had a more successful weekend...

ruby - have you done any reading about low carbing? I can seriously recommend that you do, so that you can fix in your mind the health advantages of this way of eating - i.e. that it's not just about weight loss. That might help keep you focussed.

ooo we live not too far from Coral Reef, is it suitable for a nearly 2 yo and a nearly 5 yo?

welcome newbies

hope all had sun today, it was glorious here. Saw my old NCT group this avo, sat in the garden, the children played, fab. DS was the only boy out of 8 girls so he trailed about after the girlies who spent the whole afternoon dressing up - he and ds 2 ended up climbing into the dog kennel (new one, for cute puppy), very cute, peeping out

not been very strict this week, feeling like I am expanding rather than shrinking.

B: 2 eggs fried in coconut oil & butter, half avocado with olive oil
L: roast chicken, cheesy leeks, broccoli
S: lots of berries and cheese
D: cauli pizza, salad, 85% chunk of choc

B mushrooms in butter, 2 scrambled eggs
L cream cheese and cucumber
D roast chicken (thigh/leg), creamy cauli, green beans/broccoli drizzled with butter
S 5 almonds, last sq dark chocolate (!) 1.5 glasses white wine

Evening all, welcome all newbies and any other lurkers out there, don't be shy, come on in!

B 2 eggs scrambled with butter, double cream and a little grated cheese
L cold roast chicken thigh, big salad with feta and oil
D was caught out and had to work later than I expected so just grabbed a pack of cooked chicken fillets (Tesco brand) part of my emergency stash in the fridge at work
S when I got back from work I was starving so I had what was left of DHs lamb curry, (just the curry bit no rice or anything) pretty low carb as I know what goes into it.

Again, not enough veg today but I did drink loads of water. Even up here in the NE it was a pretty warm day and inside my work was very warm so it was easy today!

Good luck for weigh ins tomorrow everyone (am off to cut toenails, remove all body hair, pluck eyebrows, it all helps Wink)

Hi all,

Fell face first into my Birthday celebrations this week, but I wasn't too bad - as others have said, white wine is a killer as I then crave carbs.

Have put on 2lbs, which I deserved. Back on the wagon now (and back off the booze - I feel, look and eat better when I don't drink much)

Will go over to week 6 thread in a minute but want to do my confessing here! Massively fell off the wagon last night. Red wine. Lots. Chocolate. And not the dark good stuff. Cream crackers. Dinner was a bit of a disappointment so I drank rather than eat and then was starving later.

And forgot to weight this morning. Probably just as well!
