Right chaps, while BIWI is drinking prosecco in sunny Italy away being busy and important, I'm your supply teacher for the next couple of days. BIWI has given me temporary responsibility for the Big Stick, so no messing about at the back there!

Well done on getting to week five, it's not easy and despite the fab support on here you've done this yourself, so remember how far you've come.

Please record your weight on the spreadsheet and marvel at your progress!

Temptations will come along, especially over bank holidays and half term treats, but remember that you're doing this for yourself, so be kind to yourself by not giving in to the temptation from things that do you harm and risk derailing you, as every time you look after yourself in this way it get easier. If you have a wobble, post on here - we'll remind you of all the tasty things you can have instead and why.

Have a lovely week!

Cider - sorry you're not feeling great Sad. But Googling probably wasn't a good idea!!!

Kidney problems from protein are only likely to happen if you have some kind of extant issue with your kidneys, from everything I've read. (It is one of the common criticisms levelled at low carbing, that all the protein isn't good for us. I wonder how our carnivorous ancestors managed?!)

This is from livestrong.com:

Although your kidneys work harder when consuming an increased amount of protein, UCLA states that there is little evidence to support the idea that high-protein diets cause kidney damage in people with normal kidney function. However, people already suffering from decreased kidney function can worsen their conditions by consuming too much protein. If you have any type of kidney disease or diabetes, avoid consuming large amounts of protein.

And, you should really be focusing mainly on fat on Bootcamp - your food proportions should be fat:protein:carbs (unlike how we are advised to eat, which is carbs:protein:fat - but note that protein's position in terms of relative proportions remains unchanged). Also, if you're eating fatty meats/fish, then the amount of protein in your diet will be kept lower whilst at the same time increasing the amount of fat - so chicken thighs rather than chicken breasts, pork belly rather than pork fillet, salmon rather than cod, etc.

How much water are you drinking on a daily basis?

But beyond all this, I'd definitely get yourself to the GP. Leaving something like this too long isn't a good idea - a quick course of antibiotics might be a good idea!

BigStickBIWI · 31/05/2013 15:27

And a really interesting piece here with lots of studies/reviews to support his point of view that high protein consumption does not damage healthy kidneys.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 31/05/2013 16:12

Crap, I was doing so well and then inhaled three chocolate hobnobs this afternoon. Stupid brain. I need to lose 0.6lb to get into the next stone - come on me, don't be a sugary twat!

kiwigirl42 · 31/05/2013 17:47

there must be something in the air. I've just put a bag of frozen blueberries/ raspberries in a pan and topped with crumble made of ground almonds, butter and tbsp of honey. I just really fancy something to eat with the 600ml tub of thick cream in the fridge which I forgot about and expires tomorrow.

I'll make the kids ice cream tomorrow and make them eat it all in one go so I don't get a sniff of it. I love ice cream and love my ice cream maker. Thats the main reason I'm on this thread in the first place, mind!

Ruprekt · 31/05/2013 18:34

Great idea kiwi!

Crumble! SmileSmile

B yoghurt with cream and blueberries

No lunch

S bowl broccoli and cheese soup

D creamed mushrooms with spinach

CiderwithBuda · 31/05/2013 19:21

Well went to GP and it's official. I have a uti. And now have antibiotics. I mentioned low carb and she didn't think it would make a difference except would change urine obv. Phew!

So I will carry on.

BIWI - I am eating fat and eating normal amounts of protein really. Water - last couple of days 9 big glasses. Today not so much but will rectify.

BIWI · 31/05/2013 19:41

Phew! Glad you have those antibiotics! Hopefully all will start to calm down within the next 24-36 hours.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 31/05/2013 19:56

Evening all, hope everyone looking forward to the weekend.

I am very happy that, despite being up most of the night with a poorly Ds including a 1am dash to the sick kids hospital for steroids (he had rapidly developed croup but as he is 7 they wanted to check it wasn't anything more serious as it is not as common in the over 5s, apparently) and feeling very tired and a wee bit emotional today, I have NOT fallen into carbs, yay me!

B Lidl yoghurt with vanilla and cinnamon
S two digs in the peanut butter jar, yes double dipper Blush
L smallish steak with fried egg and buttery spring greens
S couple of tablespoons of coleslaw
D big bowl of home made chicken soup - made and brought round by my lovely friend/neighbour when she heard what had happened last night, bless her. It did have carrots in it, but I decided the love put into it counted for much more Grin

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 31/05/2013 19:57

Get well soon cider

WillieWaggledagger · 31/05/2013 20:31

ugh ciderwithbuda you poor thing

if you are horribly uncomfortable, take yourself to the loo with an enormous bottle of water and a good book and keep drinking and weeing. vile i know, but i have found it helps

i used to get them very frequently so you have my complete sympathy. low carbing has really helped because of the quantity of water that now goes through me!

Hi thanks for welcome back.

DD is facing SN diagnosis - better to know but daunting as an LP to think about years ahead.

I am not sure if I am getting this LC thing right. I do not eat like this every night, but this was my treat meal according to LC principles. What do you think?

Rare Friday without kids so made M&S chorizo burger, merguez sausages (4, they are small) with sweet potato "chips" fried in olive oil plus two large helpings of steamed green beans and broccoli. Mayo on side. Pudding was a slab of coconut bread (MN recipe) with raspberries, blueberries and a 2 tsp double cream - (ahem, two glasses red wine and one lime &mint mojito from M&S Blush)

BerylStreep · 31/05/2013 21:12

Yes Cider, hope the UTI responds well to the antibiotics.

I have had my DD's birthday party today, and have managed to avoid all party food, but did have to down quite a lot of wine to settle my nerves after the party. Blush

Thankfully it is the last of the party season.

Unfortunately DH filmed some of the party, and I look quite a fairly hefty girl in it. When I look in the mirror I am very good at focusing on the nice parts - lovely eyes, cheeky smile, pointy chin (well the first one is, not the others), great boobs? However the camera is unkind. It showed the other chins, the beefy arms, the calfs and thighs. Oh dear Sad

timidviper · 31/05/2013 21:34

Referring to the conversation about exercising fasted. My personal trainer has upped his own training to do various challenges this year and, having listened patiently to my low carb witterings, told me today that he has been reading a lot and getting advice so is now eating a paleo diet!

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/05/2013 22:55

change my DD has just been diagnosed with Aspergers. I personally do think it's better to know - it makes sense of a lot of things for me. It must be an emotional time for you though, especially if you're a LP. Flowers

Your meal sounds bit carby for bootcamp proper - sweet potatoes and berries aren't allowed, I don't think. Have you read the rules on the spreadsheet?

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/05/2013 23:00

Cider hope the abx clear things up.

Beryl that's why I won't let anyone point a camera at me!

B - bit of cheese with little tomatoes
L - courgette, mushroom, chorizo and tomatoes in pesto
S - a few more tomatoes with cheese
D - black farm sausages with celeriac mash and roasted broccoli
2 glasses wine, loads of water

That's a lot of tomatoes, isn't it, but they're 3.1g per 100g carbs. Is that ok?

MaryBeardfanclub · 31/05/2013 23:01

I have guests so of course I made a raspberry pavlova and had a large helping to boot. I enjoyed every mouthful but my it was sweet!

B: 2 hb eggs mashed with butter
L: bolognaise sauce, veg, boursin melted in
S: packet of ham
D: ribs, salad with bacon & avocado; hm coleslaw + aforementioned pavlova
hope all have a good weekend Smile

NewStartNewStory · 01/06/2013 04:01

Thanks for that advice crabby can't take NSAIDS so that is not a problem. my normal pain killers is paracetamol, co-codamol or amitriptylene. Managed with just physio tape - it really is brilliant stuff! but will probably suffer for a night of dancing tomo. RICE will be the plan tomo. And just to clarify before BIWI twitched that stick or Willy starts being cross I do mean rest, ice, compression and elevation kinda RICE. WinkGrin I may or many not have consumed far too much lemonade vodka tonight. And may or may not have more then sore knee tomo.

Cided i hope you feel better soon. UTIs are miserable things to suffer from.

CrabbyBigBottom · 01/06/2013 09:07

New glad you had a good time! I take co-dydramol for my back - I hope they don't impede weight loss.

Toomuch I hope your DS is on the mend now; how worrying for you.

Gorgeous day here and I'm feeling a bit brighter this morning (have been feeling really dull and sluggish all week). Happy Weekend, everyone! Smile

ALMONDGATE - when In waitrose yesterday I checked all the almond counts and the toasted ones are 10.3 and all others 6.5. I have a theory... Is it because when toasted they are lighter so you get more in 100g so therefore more carbs?!?

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/06/2013 09:12

BIWI · 01/06/2013 09:13

Grin at RICE!

change - you need to go and have a look at the rules of Bootcamp and print off the list of allowed veg! Sweet potatoes are too carby (there's a clue in the name Wink). How many carbs were in the burger and the sausages - apart from the fact that they are also processed - and there are, presumably sweeteners in the coconut bread?

And as for the lime mojito ...

Grin
WillieWaggledagger · 01/06/2013 09:14

Yes mrshp I wonder whether they lose water weight and therefore they carbs are more concentrated per 100g

Sending love to all those feeling under par. Hope you rally soon.

I need help, girls. I have come back from my holidays and seem to have lost my way a bit. I am resisting the scales as I have a period to boot, but can see I have put on and am glum. I shall try to ubercamp from Tuesday (as I am out on Monday night) but need to get a grip.

Mrs HP - M &S do wonderful salted roasted almonds. I have consumed several bags over my holiday in testament to their wonderfulness, and now am a porker. Their carb count is advertised as being 4g / 100, of which sugars are 4.4g! Shurely shome mishtake!!

BIWI · 01/06/2013 09:20

I think you're probably right about that, MrsHP.

sybil - make sure you have planned your next few days' meals. And don't buy anything you shouldn't be eating! Check the ingredients on the back of the pack of those almonds just to make sure they haven't got added sugar - it wouldn't surprise me!

CrabbyBigBottom · 01/06/2013 09:27

By jove I think you've got it - it must be the water loss involved in the toasting process. Maybe in 2012 Waitrose were experimenting with a super-hydrator (i'm visualising a huge machine like the higgs boson particle generator) that allowed them to produce toasted almonds at 3.9 carbs per hundred. But then they discovered that there were terrible, mutating side effects.... Grin
