Right chaps, while BIWI is drinking prosecco in sunny Italy away being busy and important, I'm your supply teacher for the next couple of days. BIWI has given me temporary responsibility for the Big Stick, so no messing about at the back there!

Well done on getting to week five, it's not easy and despite the fab support on here you've done this yourself, so remember how far you've come.

Please record your weight on the spreadsheet and marvel at your progress!

Temptations will come along, especially over bank holidays and half term treats, but remember that you're doing this for yourself, so be kind to yourself by not giving in to the temptation from things that do you harm and risk derailing you, as every time you look after yourself in this way it get easier. If you have a wobble, post on here - we'll remind you of all the tasty things you can have instead and why.

Have a lovely week!

I have to say I can end up doing 20-30hrs training a week and I wouldn't consider upping my carbs. In fact I can cope with the longer training sessions better when i am low carbing. Although I do need to make sure I getting enough salts and water during training (and this is nearly double the amount of water that i used to drink and thankfully a pee break mid training session is possible ) It does take a while to adjust though and i did suffer from carb flu but found a handful of nuts would help in the transition phase. But I didn't cut back training when I started this woe the first time, I actually stepped up training which probably didn't help Blush

NewStartNewStory · 31/05/2013 11:50

Actually, i had a really positive experience yesterday. Went out with some friends after training and we were grabbing lunch. I was being 'picky' trying to find something lc. I got asked what I was avoiding and one of the girls piped up "Oh like paleo" a few questions later but very positive conversation. Not a drive for conversion but more a how do you find Grabbing lunch from supermarket on run/affect training/suit your life style kinda thing. Nice to have some support too. Sometimes it really can feel like the whole world is against you doing this but even coach can see the difference in my ability to train now (no more passing out mid training session due to blood sugar crashing Blush ) and they were completely against it in the beginning. It does take a lot to break with conventional thought process. But mind over matter and the rewards for me have been brilliant. I know i shall be working to stick with this woe hard but equally i know the benefits i have already gained.

QueenofDreams · 31/05/2013 12:16

huff. I shouldn't have weighed myself again. :(
stepped on the scales just before my shower and it showed 2lb higher than what it did this morning. Now I don't know which one was the accurate measurement. Bah.

WillieWaggledagger · 31/05/2013 12:17

queen have you eaten or drunk anything? a litre of water weighs a kilo (2.2lb)

OP posts:
QueenofDreams · 31/05/2013 12:34

Yeah I had breakfast, and drank some tea and some water. So that's probably it. In fact that's why I deliberately weigh myself before I eat usually, I just need to resist the temptation to step on scales later on to double check!

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 31/05/2013 12:37

I always take the best one queen Wink

But yes, first thing in the morning after pee, nekkid, before eating or drinking anything, should be your "true" weight.

QueenofDreams · 31/05/2013 12:47

sounds good to me Grin That means I've lost 3lb since Monday. I'm going to keep being good so I can hopefully drop down into the 10s next week. It's a bit pathetic, but I actually feel so damn excited at the prospect. I feel very well rewarded for resisting the crème brulee that's been sitting in the fridge looking at me Grin

bulletwithbutterflywings · 31/05/2013 12:50

I've only cheated this week biwi! Honest guv! Until last Saturday afternoon I had stuck rigidly to bootcamp and then bootcamp light and my weight has been hovering around 11st. I think I got the cheat out of my system now though. Like I said I think ditching dairy and nuts might help so I'm going to give that a go and stick to full on bootcamp and ubercamp fr a few weeks.

WillieWaggledagger · 31/05/2013 13:03

yup bullet, i've got a wedding to go to in four weeks' time, and i'm going to cut right down on the dairy i think

I have a baby shower to go to in 4 weeks, which is an afternoon tea type affair so I know I will cheat, so I'm going hardcore until then and then 3 weeks after that I have a weekend away where I have to wear a swimming costume Shock and will be with a bunch of cake eaty people so although meals will be fine I can't diss their baking! It will be another cheaty weekend. I don't want to ruin my holiday thinking about food so I am just going to have to be strong in between these cheaty events and get back into it immediately afterwards.

3ismylot · 31/05/2013 13:47

Hi all I am not a bootcamper as such but I follow paleo/primal so am pretty much living bootcamp lite Grin

I love reading through your thread as its nice to see other people enjoying this woe. I have dropped 1 stone 12lbs in the last 10 weeks and can honestly see myself doing this for life now.

Just wanted to say that I agree with BIWI about training in a fasted state, I am currently training for a 5 mile run (National Lottery Anniversary run) in July and The Great North run half marathon in september and 4 days a week I get up at 530am and go straight out for a run (between 3 and 4 miles at the moment) and then have breakfast at 7am with no problems at all. Even when I start covering the longer 8-10 mile runs I plan on running on an empty stomach but maybe taking some dried fruit and nuts with me just incase.

Also Bullet have you considered making and taking paleo cakes to your weekend away and then you can still enjoy it without making yourself feel sluggish and bloated? There are some amazing recipes on the net, I love paleo cinnamon rolls every once in a while but check out pinterest for ideas depending on what things you like. Surely the only way to ruin your weekend willl be making yourself feel bad by being a sugary twat Wink

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/05/2013 13:53

Thanks Beryl. Smile The insurance covers the cost but I have to pay £75 excess. Their partner company is autoglass, who I've had a huge pain in the arse with trying to organise them to replace it. It's booked for Sunday now, finally. It's not meant to affect your NCB, but I bet my premium goes up a bit this year. Angry

kiwigirl42 · 31/05/2013 13:57

Just had lovely curry made with Bart's Massaman Paste, tin of coconut milk (Blue Dragon) and chicken. Then mixed in chopped spinach and served with cauliflower. Was really yum.
The massaman paste is the nicest curry paste I've had. It spicy (cinnamonny) but not overpoweringly hot.

I also did some yoga this morning for 10 minutes. My muscles are really wasted from 6yrs of constant lying in bed with migraines (+ I have fibro from a virus I caught which landed me in hospital for 2 wks in 2007) so I am keen to get them strong again. I really like the dvd I bought. Its called Power of Yoga and was only £3.

So with the weights I scored on ebay for only £3 and the exercise bike I think I'm now sorted Grin

Is anyone else still sticking to strict bootcamp? If not, what other things have you added in? I'm really keen to lose weight asap so have been sticking to strict bootcamp as much as possible.

kiwigirl42 · 31/05/2013 14:01

newstartnewstory I'd say take the painkillers. I take very strong prescription painkillers for my fibro and I'm still losing weight without a problem

CiderwithBuda · 31/05/2013 14:25

Hi all.

Kiwi - sounds like you have had a nightmare health wise. Glad you seem to be on the mend.

I've been feeling a bit off the last few days. Think I have a uti. Ordered some testing strips from amazon which were supposed to arrive yesterday but haven't arrived yet. It's odd as seems to come on after lunch and I feel constipated (although i am going fairly regularly) as well and really uncomfortable. Have also noticed that my urine is a bit fizzy over the last few weeks. On and off. Googled and it can be protein in the urine and a sign the body isn't dealing with protein properly which is a bit worrying. Started looking up side effects of low carbing which maybe wasn't the best idea till I know what is going on. Drinking lots of water can irritate the kidneys and too much protein can damage them. Apparently.

I have been sticking to bootcamp other than some blueberries with breakfast. Also had some red wine and strawberries last night. Been good otherwise. So I suppose that is bootcamp light really.

Haven't weighed for a few days as scales hidden under a pike of stuff in bedroom while decorating being done. Will be sorting it all later or tomorrow. I do feel lighter and DH reckons I look like I have lost weight.

Not entirely sure what I should do. Continue or introduce some more carbs. No crap carbs obv. I was planning on weighing on Monday and depending how that goes I thought I would try ubercamp for a few days to see how dairy affects me.

We go on holiday in five weeks and I was hoping to bootcamp till then. Holiday will be a challenge as it is almost four weeks driving around California!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 31/05/2013 14:26

3is - I'll have a look for some recipes, cinnamon rolls are my favourite thing to eat ever! Baking has always kind of been my 'thing' and Paleo is the way I am thinking of going long term.

BlackAffronted · 31/05/2013 14:46

Ooops, have had 2 breakfasts today Blush both LC though! Met a friend in town & we went for a cuppy & succumbed to a cheese omlette after having had bacon for breakfast.

QueenofDreams · 31/05/2013 14:49

3is nice to see you. I got into low carbing from reading about primal/paleo. My parents just switched to primal eating a few weeks ago. my mum lost 4lb in the first week, but hasn't lost any weight since. She says they're both so much healthier now though.

3ismylot · 31/05/2013 14:53

Bullet I can definately recommend paleo cinnamon rolls they are lovely especially warm Grin I have founds loads of other great ideas for paleo cakes but dont get the desire like I used to so dont bake often! I have a few pinned on pinterest though ready for special occaions Grin

You could even use it as a way of showing friends how great LC is Wink

kiwigirl42 · 31/05/2013 14:57

I'm going to go paleo long term also but will eat dairy as well. I did do paleo for a few months but fell of the wagon when ill.

ciderwithbuda you should really get yourself to the GP and get a sample sent off.

stop talking about paleo cinnamon rolls you guys! I'd LOVE a nice big cake just about now!

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/05/2013 15:00

Sorry to hear about your pain, Kiwi and New. I'd heard that NSAIDS like ibuprofen can stall you, but I've no idea how or why. Could you take paracetamol instead? And if you need something stronger, add in some OTC/prescribed codiene? Careful not to double up the paracetamol though, as that will screw up your liver.

CrabbyBigBottom · 31/05/2013 15:01

Buda that's a bit worrying, isn't it, about the kidneys and protein caution. Might have to do some reading about that!

HeirToTheIronThrone · 31/05/2013 15:07

Buda it's weird, I think I have a bit of cystitis too... Hoping though that the gallons of water will flush it out!

3ismylot · 31/05/2013 15:13

Hi Queen Yes I definately feel so much healthier since switching Grin I only weigh once a fortnight but also dont get hung up on the numbers as I just love feeling better.

Kiwi I still eat dairy I am more primal than paleo, I tried really strict paleo first time and cut dairy and nightshades but was too hard and I quickly fell off the wagon, This time I am primal and loving it!
