Week 4 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - Wherein we totes commit

OK. It has come to my attention that there has been a lot of slippage going on over the last few days

Low carbing is not a very forgiving way of eating. It isn't like following a low calorie diet, where one meal or one day can compensate for another.

If you're low carbing then you have to commit to low carbing all the time.

Once you reach your target weight, then this isn't necessarily the case, but whilst you're losing weight, you really do have to keep your carbs low. If you don't, then all you're doing is constantly messing with your blood sugars.

And, if you have a massive increase in carbs, you are constantly re-filling your glycogen stores, which means your weight could go up by as much as 7lbs. And you're stopping your body shifting from carb-burning to fat-burning, because you're having to deal with all those pesky carbs.

So, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

Let's make sure that we really commit and get shot of that weight.

Thanks Ewan - I have STS for 19 days now but can visibly see fat loss - so it's annoying but not really a stall if fat loss is occuring I take it?

middleagedspread · 24/05/2013 20:14

Thanks Ewan, so are you suggesting that we should maintain the same eating pattern & quantities & just hang on?
That's reassuring.

AuntieMaggie · 24/05/2013 20:14

Dammit - today I had KFC :(

Was stuck on the road for 7 hours talking diversions and detours all over the place to avoid the M6 and M5 and every other hellish road on my way home and the first place I found to stop that I could have a wee and get food was KFC :(

snowballinashoebox · 24/05/2013 21:17

Thanks ewan I like the idea of my body having a rest and it makes sense.
Maggie that sounds like a hellish day, think I would have done the same. There is a gourmet burger van which id a work treat on a Friday and he now does me a burger on salad with lots if lovely mayo, chilli oil and cheese in a boxGrin so much nicer than un a bap.

Very interesting article in the BMJ here...

Haven't read back today as I'm a little drunk now. Blush There are reasons for that though, so I don't feel guilty much.

Yesterday meals
B- none, didn't have time
S - some almonds and lots and lots of water
Late L - prawns and avocado, followed by some char-grilled veg with HM pesto
D - omelette with cheese and ham
2xtea, glass of white wine, loads of water

Today's
B - cheese and ham
L - smoked salmon bits with loads of creme fraiche and a spoon of lumpfish roe ('caviar')
S - olives and cheddar
D - hunters' chicken with butterbeans (naughty!) and roasted broccoli.
2xtea, loads of water, too much wine of both colours

bulletwithbutterflywings · 24/05/2013 21:30

Ugh. I have a weekend with my friend, there will be cake and shopping and wine and no exercise :( I was really looking forward to it as a bit of a treat - but I'm so 'in the zone' that I'm kind of dreading it a bit. But she's my best friend in the world and I haven't seen her for aaaages so I'm very excited about seeing her!

JustasmallGless · 24/05/2013 22:00

I can only echo what Ewan says

Please measure yourself as we'll as going off what the scales say. Also consider how you actually feel in yourself.

The most amazing thing for me was not constantly feeling hungry and snacking.
I still now, after a year, find it unbelievable that I can go for so long between meals. My blood sugars would drop an hour after eating a big meal and would start snacking.

I feel cross that the government still perpetuates the low fat high carb myth

HeirToTheIronThrone · 24/05/2013 23:05

Well DP brought home M&S dine in for two, though I have him well trained I think as he picked steak with Mediterranean veg :) I do admit to having the pudding as well though... But no wine! I don't know which would be worse actually... Have had masses of water though and a long swim this morning so hopefully not too much damage...

MrsCoyote · 25/05/2013 08:10

yesterday
B egg mayo
L celeriac mash with butter and pork belly
D pork belly with salad

MrsCoyote · 25/05/2013 08:13

L soup - cauli? leek?
D salmon with roasted veg

CrabbyBigBottom · 25/05/2013 10:02

Right, I am off Bootcamp for a couple of days as it is my 40th birthday this weekend and there shall be much feasting and boozing. There may even be crunchy topped lemon cake with sour cherries! I'll be back on it on Monday/Tuesday.

Weight has sts this week, varying by half a pound or so, but yesterday I put on smart(ish) clothes for an appointment and was thrilled to see my waist! Grin Haven't seen that for some months, so this WOE is certainly doing the trick.

middleagedspread · 25/05/2013 10:06

Have a lovely birthday Crabby. It's the law that you should eat cake on your birthday & have at least one drunken episode.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 25/05/2013 10:15

Off to Scotland tomorrow morning v early - I will try my best, but I cant promise not to be too bad.

Crabby - enjoy your birthday. Flowers

MrsFlorrick · 25/05/2013 10:45

Crabby. Happy 40th. Grin Enjoy yourself. It's my turn in a few weeks time.

DH has agreed to look after dC this afternoon while I hit the shops. Aaahh. Bliss. DS is already giving him the run around. I am trying not to laugh as DH (after much wine) last night lectured me on tougher and more structured discipline with DS. Sadly for him, DS is taking no notice. Hahaha.

Lie in so far scrambled eggs bacon and avocado. And coffee.

CrabbyBigBottom · 25/05/2013 11:07

Thanks Middle, I suspect that there shall be several drunken episodes. Can't be as bad as my oldest friend's 40th birthday party where, after much wine was consumed by all, I went to the loo in the middle of the night, went back into the wrong bedroom and got into bed with one of the guests. Shock Shock Blush What's worse is that I then took all the duvet (single bed!) and snored loudly. Rather than kicking me loudly and firmly out of the bed, the poor woman slept on the floor! When she woke up again I was gone, and she had no idea who it was. In the morning it was like a murder mystery weekend, with everyone trying to work out who the mystery bed-hopper was. Oh the shame!! Blush Blush

Thanks Jax - enjoy Scotland!

Thanks MrsF too, and I hope you get a peaceful afternoon shopping while your DH imposes his new and fruitless discipline regime. Wink

NewStartNewStory · 25/05/2013 11:40

Enjoy watching the chaos MrsF Wink there is something to be learnt the hard way with exciting kids. Hope Dh fully appreciates the effort required in preventing total destruction. Grin

Today is not going exactly to plan but so far no one has died and no one needs a trip to a&e. On that basis I am going to class this as a good day and try not to lose my voice by implementing selective hearing. Sorry did you whisper something? NO? sorry couldn't hear you then...

B: Banned by bootcamp and thus shall not be listed in full detail. 1 ltr of water
L: hmm no idea.
T: no idea where i will be yet so not sure.

AngieAir · 25/05/2013 12:03

Whoever mentioned Bovril I send my thanks. Bought some this week and has been a nice change in this cold weather from tea with ever reducing amounts of milk.

Now today I'm going to be brave and attempt lasagne but need advice. Mince mix is already made. I was also going to layer ricotta instead of bechamel.

Which is better as lasagne sheet substitute: Emmental cheese slice or sliced courgettes? Or should I use both?

CiderwithBuda · 25/05/2013 12:31

Afternoon all. Tried to post a Morning all earlier but got distracted but a fox brazenly walking through the garden. Then I went to Waitrose.

Happy birthday young Crabby! Have a great weekend. I did the drunken episode on my birthday last week but not the cake. Saving that one up for on holiday!

Angie - I have done one with leeks before. I think the courgettes might work. Let us know!

Has anyone got a reliable scales? This morning on mine I was 14 4 (I wish!)' 14 6 and 14 7. Yesterday was similar between 14 8 and 14 11. Drives me mad. This is second set of scales in two years. A weight watchers set were similar.

Yesterday I had:

B - egg mayo
S - couple of spoonfuls of cream
L - salad, with avocado, smoked salmon and wasabi mayo
S - cream
D - couldn't be bothered cooking and DS only wanted cereal so I had 3 chicken drumsticks and some cheese
S - cream
I think I need to stop the cream!

Today
B - bacon and two poached eggs
S - cold sausage
L - will be chicken drumsticks and salad
D - either salmon or chicken with stir fry veg.

Doshusallie · 25/05/2013 12:49

Leftover chicken breast wrapped in bacon for brekkie

Slices of ham, cheese, lettuce, cucumber, corned beef and mayo - tablespoon of PB for lunch. Very full.

middleagedspread · 25/05/2013 12:55

Crabby, that is a fab story...imagine if the guest in the bed had posted on MN??
Bet you can't top that tonight!

Weight still the same as it was 2 weeks ago. Here's hoping the fairy visits tonight before weigh in tomorrow.

CrabbyBigBottom · 25/05/2013 13:43

Thanks Buda. Smile

Middle I was mortified, but it could have been worse - her and her husband were both sleeping in the room, in separate single beds (children's room). Imagine if I'd got into bed with him! Shock

Thank goodness she did say something in the morning... they're Spanish; she could have just kept quiet and assumed that this is what English people do at house parties! Grin

I knew something was up because the first thing I remember is coming out of the loo and getting back into bed, and DP saying "where the hell have you been??" I had no idea what he was talking about, and he told me I'd been gone for almost two hours. I didn't believe him but then realised that my side of the bed was stone cold. Shock Apparently I'd gone to the loo and just hadn't come back. After five minutes he'd come out to look for me (I do have form for getting disorientated when I'm staying over somewhere Blush Blush) and I'd vanished. He figured I must have gone into the wrong room. Short of opening each of the other three doors and hissing "Crabby!!", he didn't see what he could do so he went back to bed.

In the morning we woke up to the sound of riotous laughter from downstairs. DP went down and came back laughing so much he couldn't talk (and he's not a man given to extremes of emotion Hmm) They'd asked him if he'd had any nocturnal adventures and he'd told them I'd gone AWOL. Mystery solved. I couldn't remember a thing, and when I went downstairs they made me hug each person in turn to see if I could remember who it was I'd snuggled up to. I was soooo embarrassed. Grin

The thing is, I wasn't even that drunk!

CiderwithBuda · 25/05/2013 13:53

Crabby that is so funny! We had a friend stay once and after a long night with much alcohol DH and I went to bed. He ended up in our room - the bathroom linked both rooms. He got in my side and cuddled up to me. DH oblivious. I was starkers. I actually lay there giggling and then got worried as his wife had been away for a while and I thought he might think I was her. I did also think of getting out of bed down the middle and leaving him and DH. Their faces the next morning would have been hilarious. He woke up a bit and went back to his own bed though. So funny next day though!

IShallWearMidnight · 25/05/2013 13:59

sneaking in to the end of the thread to confess that I've been an idiot over the past couple of weeks and have eaten everything that stayed still long enough for me to grab it Blush.

However, DD and I have been food shopping this morning, and made a meal plan, and I've had four big glasses of water. I'll add my today's weigh in on Monday.

I've calculated that if I lose two pounds a week every week (which is perfectly doable) I can be a healthy BMI by October. Whether I actually want to be that weight (as if I go below 11.5 stone I look ill) is a different matter, but I have a mini target in that we go on a cruise in August, and I'll need new clothes for that, and I'm not buying more clothes in my current size, which is actually uncomfortably tight round the middle.

So, meals for the rest of the day:
S: a babybel
D: mince from the familys cottage pie and broccoli stirfried in butter.
Water: a lot more

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 25/05/2013 14:01

oh Crabby - you little bed hopper! Grin

That just made me laugh so much. CAnt wait to read about this weekends shenanigans.

Gosh, with BIWI away we are all very naughty... just saying. Blush
