Low-carb diets

Week 4 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - Wherein we totes commit

OK. It has come to my attention that there has been a lot of slippage going on over the last few days

Low carbing is not a very forgiving way of eating. It isn't like following a low calorie diet, where one meal or one day can compensate for another.

If you're low carbing then you have to commit to low carbing all the time.

Once you reach your target weight, then this isn't necessarily the case, but whilst you're losing weight, you really do have to keep your carbs low. If you don't, then all you're doing is constantly messing with your blood sugars.

And, if you have a massive increase in carbs, you are constantly re-filling your glycogen stores, which means your weight could go up by as much as 7lbs. And you're stopping your body shifting from carb-burning to fat-burning, because you're having to deal with all those pesky carbs.

So, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

Let's make sure that we really commit and get shot of that weight.

guy buy the pork rind from morrisons (approx 80p for loads) put on baking tray in hot oven, bake until crispy, chop up, sprinkle salt/pepper/spices on top and voila! Grin

I have STS - but as I explained on other thread although I have made not so LC choices it was ok for me for the past few days. All will be back to normal as of tomorrow.

For those who are struggling you need to change your mindset - buy FROZEN veggies, often cheaper than fresh, or buy at markets, buy cheaper cuts of meat and slow roast/cook with a lovely sauce. You CAN do this!

morning all!
only 1lb down this week, but not surprised really, had a fairly major slippage at the weekend and am keen to put it behind me.

blackaffronted do you know, it's sort of comforting to hear that others struggle in the same way too, though i'm sorry you're feeling that way, i hope that you will find enough support here to get back on the LC wagon wholeheartedly.

it was justasmallgless i think who mentioned the side effect of this WOE being much more even temperament/less mood swings etc - and to be honest until this weekend i was beginning to find the same thing. but since yesterday i have been in a trough - nay a slough of despond, and it just colours how i view everything. will try and work through it though - think it may be exercise linked (in that i wasn't able to last week) and am slowly reading through the IPD book too. there just aren't enough hours in the day!

thanks again BIWI for the timely encouragement and the threat of the big stick - and for the reminder to vary the recipes (though i have just made teaandthorazine's broccoli and stilton soup for the third time - yum!)

hope everyone has a good start to the week Smile

Thank you Thanks Mum has cut out bread and potatoes as she sees me bouncing around with tons of energy and aforementioned waist.

In our very early days DH used to serve me up big meals, even when I'd asked for smaller portions, so I just left what I couldn't eat - it was the only way of showing him that I really wanted a smaller portion. Sometimes the words don't go in and there has to be a practical demonstration.

I am down to 199! Still a huge way to go but I'm now below 200lbs which feels great!

I was less than this a couple of days ago but put on 2lbs over the weekend. Not sure why. I have felt bloated too. I think I'm going to only weigh once or twice a week now as I find I analyse it all too much.

I am having trouble with the spreadsheet but have managed to add the new weight. Not sure if anyone else is having the same bother but the cells don't seem to line up right.

Back from the land of lurgy and signing in again, ready and raring to go Smile. The damage isn't too bad, as though I ate some stuff I shouldn't and had lots of lempsips and throat lozenges, I did broadly stick to low carb principles!

My shape has changed already though; I've gone in a notch on my belt! And that's only with a few pound off.

B: Buttery scrambled eggs, big drink of water.

Biwi, I know low carb isnt usually expensive, but when I say we are broke, I mean really broke. We are usually ok with money, so no idea how we have ended up this way this month :( I am hoping my local shop has some reductions as I dont even have the bus fare to go to the supermarket.

Lunch will be ok, I have some frozen cauli/broccoli, so will make some soup with that. Im usually too snobby to use frozen veg Blush. That should cover a couple of meals.

Thanks for all the advice though, Ill get through this one way or another :)

I have £19 to feed 5 of us for 2/3 days - any advice? I have no idea how to stretch it as I have never been so poor before Shock. Well, not since my student days and I would have lived on beans on toast with cider for a fortnight Grin

I would get a lot of veg as this is cheap. You can make soup which would last 2-3 meals with bread for the carb eaters. You could also get a chicken and have chicken and veg. If you can afford salad too then packed lunches could be bits of left over chicken and salad. A box of eggs could be breakfast. I think this would be doable with £19 as veg can be done in a few pounds.

Morning everyone and lovely to see all the losses, can't believe we are in week4 already.
I am up 1lb today and have been yoyoing, gaining 2 losing 1, gaining 1 all week. However it has been my time of the month so I guess that has a lot to do with it.

Still feel mega positive, skin is lovely due to all the water which helped water down several glasses of weekend red.

Report
bulletwithbutterflywings · 20/05/2013 10:22

Well 2 glasses of red and 3 Poppets obviously don't agree with me! 1lb gain :(

Report
CiderwithBuda · 20/05/2013 10:22

Hi all. Updated spreadsheet with my gain. Am now back up to 207 rather than 205.6. Annoying. But my own fault.

Have a rotten cold and allergies so feeling bleurgh as well.

Struggling with water at the moment. Have finally measured how much our big glasses hold - 400ml. So I think I need to drink around 9 a day. Will start ticking them off on the fridge.

About to do meal plan and supermarket shop for the week.

Forgot painter was coming this morning to redo all of our yellow gloss that should be white. So have had to empty airing cupboard and need to empty spare room etc. Have been dreading this so have been in denial.

Blackaffronted - sorry you are struggling. It sounds miserable.

Queen - if you really want to do this then you are going to have to have a serious talk with your DP.

Well done to all losers btw. Hopefully I will be posting a loss next week. Nothing on horizon here that is likely to prove a temptation so am planning another week of bootcamp and will see if I lose. Then might switch to bootcamp light next week.

Just updated the spreadsheet and I managed to STS inspite of myself Grin

DS has just done his Yr6 SATs and requested sushi for his apres sats dinner, so I ate a tonne of exceptionally deliscious home made sushi yesterday. Well, not quite a tonnes, but boy did I feel bloated after the rice. It didn't feel good actually. Lesson learnt!

Black; get thee to ALDI. Free range chicken for a fiver, lots of veg. Chicken with roasted veg (and tatties for the carbies), use the carcass and more veg to make some soup for the next day, and they have nice continental meats and cheeses, and 15 free range eggs cost 2.20 ish.

I did a shop for a family of five for a week there last week and it came to £65, and we have still got half of the meat I bought left.

Blackaffronted

I will add the recipe to the thread soon, but basically it's a thick, cheesy/creamy 'soup' with crispy bacon and spring onion bits in it (I know technically chowder should have shellfish in- I bet added clams would be AMAZING)

I'll write the recipe out

Queen of Dreams I am rooting for you. I want to say, though it feels quite direct/rude: Don't let your DP control what you put in your mouth!

I am vegetarian and DH absolutely-red-blooded meat-eater so as long as we've been together we adjust the menu so that we eat together but different meals. So this is no different. Imagine my DH insisting that I ate meat because that's what he had bought! No-one would think that reasonable for a vegetarian even if they did think it was an unhealthy way of eating.

So - cook for yourself if DP won't co-operate. LC suppers can be quick and easy and not mess up the other person's cooking. Eg, salad with cold meat or smoked salmon or cheese or egg mayo or tuna mayo. Eg veg with fried meat. Asparagus spears with butter, Scrambled eggs. Omelette.

Ask him not to buy food for you on the on-line shopping, find a lunch-time while you're at work and go to the shops yourself for the bits you need.

The subject of whether its healthy or not is closed, you can always tell him its only for a temporary number of weeks so it won't damage you in that time. (Though personally I feel so well on this woe I think it is healthier than all the carbs crashes and cravings)

Good luck, take control, we are with you.
