Week 4 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - Wherein we totes commit

OK. It has come to my attention that there has been a lot of slippage going on over the last few days

Low carbing is not a very forgiving way of eating. It isn't like following a low calorie diet, where one meal or one day can compensate for another.

If you're low carbing then you have to commit to low carbing all the time.

Once you reach your target weight, then this isn't necessarily the case, but whilst you're losing weight, you really do have to keep your carbs low. If you don't, then all you're doing is constantly messing with your blood sugars.

And, if you have a massive increase in carbs, you are constantly re-filling your glycogen stores, which means your weight could go up by as much as 7lbs. And you're stopping your body shifting from carb-burning to fat-burning, because you're having to deal with all those pesky carbs.

So, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

Let's make sure that we really commit and get shot of that weight.

I wont be around much as will be on hols, am feeling awful today. Sore ears, throat, glands swollen and generally rubbish! hmmf.

Going to get some soup M&S as cant drag myself to make it.

sallycinnamum · 24/05/2013 11:54

After losing half a stone in the first week, my weight loss has completely stalled.

I think this is in part due toafternoon tea which was a present from DH so I had to go (and eat cake of course) and the three glasses of wine I had the other night.

I'd been so good but it's back on the wagon again now.

What's the low carb coleslaw recipe again?

WillieWaggledagger · 24/05/2013 12:32

Coleslaw recipe

125g white cabbage (less than 1/4 of a cabbage)
75g carrot (1 medium-sized carrot)
25g shallot (1/2 a banana/echalion shallot)

Slice white cabbage thinly
Grate carrot finely (don't use the largest holes on the grater)
Chop shallot finely

Add oil and wine vinegar - roughly 3 tablespoons oil and 1 tablespoon vinegar, and salt and black pepper. Stir everything well together. Leave for half an hour or so. Just before serving, stir in a tablespoon of mayo.

This will make 2 portions

The only gift my DS has is ever more inventive ways of making it hard for me. Don't think he is bright just loves doing dangerous and naughty things.

And yes I did weep at new carpet and silk blind quietly whilst drinking my rum last night. DH was needlessly to say unimpressed. Not with me but DS. He is well aware of his antics.

I was going to have ham and colslaw for lunch. However once in plate I found 3 pubic hairs in the ham (fresh out of packet from ocado). Had cup of tea instead and can't face any food. Just vile!!

DS pilfered all my bank and credit cards and driving license from my purse this morning and posted them out of the letter slot on the front door luckily our post man is honest and rang the door bell and gave them all back to me.

I think I was loading the washing machine while he did it. The worry is that my hand bag was on top of a shelf unit (approx 6 feet high) and he must have climbed up into it to get the purse from handbag. So now handbag needs to be under lock and key as well.

Dinner will be roast chicken.
Off to order new blind
Could I claim the blind and carpet on insurance? Not sure we have naughty toddler cover tho.

kiwigirl42 · 24/05/2013 13:04

MrsFlorrick - my brother was like your son when he was a kid and almost drove my mother demented. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you.

I weighed myself this morning as have had no appetite last 2 days - have not eaten 600 calories either day which is strange for me!
I've now lost 11lbs since 6 May so really pleased. Most of it is weight I put on trying different anti convulsants for migraine so its great for it to be going

Best news is that I haven't had a migraine for 7 days - longest period in 6 years! I ripped off HRT patch last Friday in a huff and bam. So perhaps the hysterectomy I had in March was worth it after all!

I've even told one of my oldest friends that it looks like I will be able to attend her wedding in June!

so having a good day so far!

QueenofDreams · 24/05/2013 13:38

MrsF, my DD does posting things out the front door as well. Last week she posted DP's keys out the front. He was late for work as a result, because he spent so long looking for them, eventually gave up and used my key to get out then saw his keys lying outside the door. yesterday she got a bunch of DVDs and posted them through a gap between the wall and floor in the hallway. I can't get them out now!

My attempt at the pancakes was not successful. My pans aren't non-sticky enough. So I had the mangled results of the experiment with some mushrooms and spinach for breakfast.

LilyAmaryllis · 24/05/2013 13:58

Mrs F I think the only solution is for you to do no housework whatsoever so you can keep DS in a vice-like grip at all times!

Raspberry - 4 chocolate digestives! Just move on and get back on the wagon. But I'm curious, did it send your blood sugar crazy?

I'm not on the spreadsheet as I can't face weighing myself, but yesterday I had lots of compliments from DH about the slimmer figure I am becoming. So it must be working!

B- fried egg, swede hash brown, fried tomato
L - lots-of-leftovers salad (incl tuna and cheese) as going away for weekend
D - slightly running out of ingredients due to going away. hmm. Something involving roast veg or veg soup & cheese is possible.

Doshusallie · 24/05/2013 14:14

Tea last night ended up being two slices of ham Hmm

B - FF greek yoghurt
L - 2 hb eggs, 2 slices of edam wrapped around mushrooms and mayo, and some pate on mushrooms

Am maintaining nicely at 9 2. Very happy with that. Grin

EwanHoozami · 24/05/2013 15:29

MrsFlorrick Shock at the hairs! Excusable on a pork scratching, but Ocado ham? Grin

EwanHoozami · 24/05/2013 15:32

Lily LOVE the Swede hash brown idea. How do you make it so it's not too mushy?

B - Lidl yog
L - Cauliflower soup
D - chilli lemon butter prawns on konnyaku noodles and spinach

I've been a bit snacky today. I've had to hide the peanut butter.

snowballinashoebox · 24/05/2013 15:49

kiwigirl that is brill re the headaches you must be feeling so much happier.

I had a slight slippage last night when dh bought home a bag of beautiful fresh scallops which I ate alongside 2 slices of sourdough bread which was bloody delish. I just couldn't stop myself. There was more holes than bread though so hoping it won't have prolonged the blimmin stall I seem to have developed.

How long is a stall a proper stall?

Have a good bank holiday everyone.

middleagedspread · 24/05/2013 16:01

BIWI is so selfish swanning off to Italy when we need her.Did she leave her stick with someone?

Can we talk about stalling. How long should it be before you take action?
If I do something drastic I know I will go off the rails.

B Total, berries, flax
L avocado, rocket, egg & prawn mayo
Snack half a bag of almonds, 3 baby bel
D Spicy pork burgers with celeriac chips
maybe some stewed rhubarb & total for pudding.

Too much?

BigStickBIWI · 24/05/2013 16:18

Oh yes. Big stick left behind.

middleagedspread - no, sadly my scales can't do that, just mind-blowingly erratic!
Think you day's food sounds great ? I don't think sounds a lot (then I am a bit of a greedy guzzler so maybe not best person to judge) Think BIWI or Willie wrote a while back that a stall is 2-3 weeks staying the same weight (without cheating) but maybe I imagined that (?)
Have a good BH weekend everyone!

QueenofDreams · 24/05/2013 17:49

Ok, so lunch was courgette and pak choi soup followed by a boiled egg. Dinner will be chicken I think. Probably just cooked with some veg. Weight is down 2lb today! Just need to make sure I don't slip up over the weekend

couch25cakes · 24/05/2013 18:15

I've had smoked salmon and sour cream with scrambled eggs for breakfast, and salad with feta and avocado for lunch. We've got people coming here f

couch25cakes · 24/05/2013 18:18

Oops

Friends coming here for dinner so I'm making smoked salmon and prawns to start with bread for the non LCers. Main is roast chicken with chorizo and loads of veggies (and new potatoes). And for pud I made chocolate mousse with very dark chocolate and eggs only, so I'm thinking that's about the best I could do. I'll not have the pud (hopefully) but I will have a couple of drinks so fingers crossed it'll be ok.

LilyAmaryllis · 24/05/2013 19:09

Ewan I had swede mash leftover from dinner the night before. So I just fried it. I guess leaving it overnight meant it wasn't too mushy? Neither would it have passed in a "cuisine" restaurant either, but I was quite pleased with my breakfast!

EwanHoozami · 24/05/2013 19:30

snowball middleaged and everyone interested in stalls - I don't think you can define exactly how long a stall is and it's not necessarily a Bad Thing.

A stall is just a resting place for the body as it adjusts to your new reduced weight.

Keep at it and the loss will re-start.

Months into LC eating and plateaus can be harder to shift; people have reported success with adding in some resistance training exercise, intermittent fasting (which I'm not sold on) or having a planned 'cheat' day (not on Bootcamp, obv!)

Also, remember that a scale is quite an imperfect measure of how your body is performing metabolically. Have you measured yourself? How do your clothes feel?
