Week 4 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - Wherein we totes commit

OK. It has come to my attention that there has been a lot of slippage going on over the last few days

Low carbing is not a very forgiving way of eating. It isn't like following a low calorie diet, where one meal or one day can compensate for another.

If you're low carbing then you have to commit to low carbing all the time.

Once you reach your target weight, then this isn't necessarily the case, but whilst you're losing weight, you really do have to keep your carbs low. If you don't, then all you're doing is constantly messing with your blood sugars.

And, if you have a massive increase in carbs, you are constantly re-filling your glycogen stores, which means your weight could go up by as much as 7lbs. And you're stopping your body shifting from carb-burning to fat-burning, because you're having to deal with all those pesky carbs.

So, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

Let's make sure that we really commit and get shot of that weight.

Good job BIWIs in Italy if she was watching Fat Family Tree her stick would go on overdrive

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 23/05/2013 20:30

I did, and read it like this Shock you need eyes in the back of your head for real! How old is miniFlorrick? Not sure as I am not a rum drinker, maybe someone else will know?

willie cream cheese pancakes, do you use marscapone or what? Would they work with Philly? Love that site btw, think I might try some of the meatball recipes etc.

MrsFlorrick · 23/05/2013 20:38

Toomuch. Miniflorrick is almost 2. It's unbelievable what he is capable of and very fast too.

He will not do as he's told and no means nothing to him. Time out and toy removal some times works for about 20 mins before he is at it again.

My oldest is and was nothing like this so it's a shock.

He is also able to open all the iPhones and iPads in the house as he knows all the pass codes. Best is that he can open DHs work blackberry when locked as he somehow must have seen DH do it and knows password. I can't even open that one.

He loves pilfering my phone quietly and taking himself off into a corner. It's a worry.

He also makes calls on the landline. And he would not leave the handsets alone so we have had to take all but one of them away and just have one portable one which is connected in the lounge and during the day the handset lives inside the top of my kitchen dresser where he can't reach or climb up.

WillieWaggledagger · 23/05/2013 20:42

Oh yes Philly is fine, or own brand cream cheese, I've never used mascarpone for pancakes

Mrsflorrick what a day! Vodka or gin with soda is best, with a squeeze of fresh lime if you have it. I don't know about rum though, sorry

WillieWaggledagger · 23/05/2013 20:46

Mrsflorrick he sounds like a numerical genius!

TreeLuLa · 23/05/2013 20:49

What a day, Mrs F!!!

Hold your nose and down the rum?

Today been wierd - 5am start, coffee with cream for brekkie, piece of cheese for lunch, salmon fillet andvasparagus for dinner.

halfthesize · 23/05/2013 20:50

Eve ladies hope everyone is having a good week so far?

Diet coke is a NO NO MrsFlorrick

My DS2 is ill with an ear infection so not caught up on thread yet this week, no sleep since Sunday, the joys of parentingHmm

maidofmuss · 23/05/2013 20:53

Re earlier post, no cheese today but couldn't resist full fat total with bit of vanilla stirred through after dinner, so today:
B Stir-fried mushrooms with scrambled eggs
L Gammon ham salad (leaves, radish cucumber)
D Chicken breast with home-made coleslaw
Yoghurt and vanilla, with a few chopped up hazlenuts
Know I'm not drinking enough water
MrsF no idea about carbs in rum either - think you'd need a mixer though and best avoid diet coke. Could try a dash in a tall glass with a squeeze of lime and lots and lots of ice? Hope at least MiniF's a good sleeper after a day like that!

colette · 23/05/2013 21:32

EwanHoozami Thanks for the recipes.

Mrs F - your day sounds like it was incredibly challenging. Enjoy the rum!

QueenofDreams · 23/05/2013 21:34

Wow mrsflorrick your DS sounds like a real handful! enjoy your drink!

Can't wait to try those pancakes tomorrow. seriously I'm so tempted to make some right now, but I've already eaten dinner so I will resist.

captainmummy · 23/05/2013 21:45

MrsF - your ds sounds a real genius! He's go far (if he doesn't poison himself with bleach/toilet water Shock)

I drink Rum with fizzy water.

Breakkie - 2 eggs
lunch- lettuc with chicken-and-chorizo pate (new in Tesco and really yum), few Macadamias
Dinner - cauli cheese with bacon and leaves, mayo. Soya yoghurt.

Snack - bowl of mashed swede leftover, with puddle of melted butter...

MrsFlorrick · 23/05/2013 22:04

Thanks everyone. Captain. I took your advice on rum with fizzy water given lack of suitable mixers in house.

Willie. Not sure about genius. But I look forward to him programming all the electronics in the house for me.

Sorry about the long rant about his antics. I know it's really a whole other thread. But I needed to justify the reason for needing a drink.

My oldest and toilet boy are safely asleep and I (and my fizzy rum) are going to watch Nashville.

Doshusallie · 23/05/2013 22:05

Biwi's drink of choice is dark rum. I'd have it with diet coke if I were you after a day like that.

NewStartNewStory · 23/05/2013 22:12

I had one of those MrsF. It does get better. Now I have a 8yr old studying for GCSEs because he wants to Hmm who is cross because I won't let him sit the exams as early as he wants. (won't even discuss it before he is 10yr old as imo he is not emotionally ready nor needs the stress no matter how academically smart arsed he is). I have told him if he wants to prep for exams to consider the 11 plus and the entrance exams for the school he wants. Different less dangerous battles. probably because we have the dangerous stuff as things we do together love that chemistry kit

There is some really good snap together electrics kits which whilst they say is only for 8yr + is actually ok for young kids, but you kinda need to sit with. Crazy custard used to keep ds occupied for a bit although messy as hell. I used to send ds out in the garden with a print out of pictures and tell him to scribble over the stuff he could find (frog/bee flowers/conkers etc) But getting him into stuff like golf and fishing (yes i know eww maggots) was actually brilliant for him. Bloody hard work though. You have my full and complete sympathies.

Stepped away from focusing on anything. Worked on picking apart stress didn't give a shit about what eaten feeling a bit more in control and hopefully it will stay that way for a bit.

MrsFlorrick · 23/05/2013 22:19

New start. Thanks. It helps to know.
One day it will come good.

Dosh. I did have diet coke but given what everyone else said, I gave it a miss. Besides I am not really a coke drinker.

And sadly miniflorrick isn't a good sleeper. Argh. His older sister is at least. To be fair she is a bit of a model child. I have done my best to treat them identically but often wonder if I have gone wrong somewhere.

NewStartNewStory · 23/05/2013 22:45

Ds is not a good sleeper either. His brain is too busy. He now has drugs to help. and so do i Mind this said ds is currently singing and doing stuff of unknown matter in his room. THankfully it is the last day of term before the hols and I am too tired to care as long as he follows normal rules.
I do not want disturbing unless: 1. something is broken. 2. You are hurt. 3. there is an issue with the house (flood fire tree through roof etc) 4. it is morning (after 7am) 5. the bed needs changing 6. You have had a nightmare. We love rules here. Hmm and this mostly covers everything until he thinks up the next exception Once they get to 4/5 they can start be trained, but i remember endless hours sleeping on the lounge waiting for cbeebies to start and when he hit 3 endless hours in the middle of the night trying to stay awake whilst listening to him teach himself to read. It comes right but takes input and structure. Ds is a good kid and once his impulsiveness tamed a bit a real pleasure to spend time with. Still needs exercising 3 times daily though.

LilyAmaryllis · 23/05/2013 22:53

I'm in awe at what you have to bear Mrs F. I'd be so upset about the bleach stains!

Today was DS's 5th party, I have baked and iced a hundredweight of fairy cakes and not eaten any! (I did lick my icing-y fingers twice...)

B - greek yoghurt, half an avocado, carrot. (wierd breakfast)
L - tuna mayo salad
D - long gap before dinner due to party and clearing up... but I didn't feel desperate/hungry/craving-y and I had enough energy to cook properly. The wonder effects of this WOE. So I really treated myself to a slap-up-dinner of fried salmon, creamy sauce, swede mash, broccoli. Felt like a feast.

CiderwithBuda · 23/05/2013 23:10

Hi all.

MrsFlorrick - wow. He def sounds challenging! I would have had the diet coke. Lost 2 stone on Atkins years ago whilst drinking copious amounts of Bacardi and diet coke! Don't tell BIWI.

Food was all good here today. Am hungry now though. So am in bed to avoid temptation.

Bessie123 · 24/05/2013 00:34

Gosh, I can't relate at all to those of you with super bright children. Mine are so normal.

I have been out and drunk lots of fizzy wine and ate some chips. I might be massive tomorrow.

NewStartNewStory · 24/05/2013 00:57

Super bright? ds? nah. And normal is good too. All kids are amazing in their own ways.

I have finished the mountain of paperwork that has been bogging me down a bit. Not sure what the plan is for tomo yet. There is more paperwork or research. Cottage pie for tea. scrambled eggs for breakfast not sure about the plan for lunch. there is loads of veg in the fridge but no cheese and the only cream in the house is oat cream :( so i guess a trip to the shops is needed before lunch.

TreeLuLa · 24/05/2013 07:10

Me again. Have lost another lb! 2 more to go until I go down into the 'next' stone :)

B coffee with cream
L tuna mayo in little gem leaves
D Aubergine Parmesan bake

maidofmuss · 24/05/2013 07:26

That is great treelula - well done you!
Think will hv Sts this week tho with my scales hard to tell - weighed myself 3 times in row a couple of days ago and went from 11st11 (air punching) to 12st 6 (misery) to 12st 4...(resigned) ...
No food plans today yet tho poss pork strog with lots of sour cream and mushrooms this eve...

middleagedspread · 24/05/2013 08:02

Well done all you losers.
maidofmusa, do you find if you put more weight on your left food & lean backwards can result in instant weight loss? That's my standard method of standing on the scales, works every time as long as i don't lose my balance!

HeirToTheIronThrone · 24/05/2013 09:53

Morning all, have feasted on greek yog and 4 brazil nuts for breakfast and have a lovely salad in the office fridge which I am looking forward to. I am SO close to getting down into the next stone bracket, so am on a bit of a mission this weekend. Have a 30th to attend tomorrow but it's a bring your own bbq and I am driving so should be doable! And did 70 lengths of the pool this morning, and have a big walk planned Sunday or Monday. Determined that this bank hol will be better than the last very very boozy one...
