Week 5 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the second half

First, I wanted to start by saying 'RIP Dr Michael Mosley'. Although Bootcamp isn't like any of the plans he developed and advocated, I have read all of his books, since he wrote The 8-week Blood Sugar Diet, and have always admired how he worked with and developed his plans around the latest science. The recipe books, written and developed by his wife, Dr Claire Bailey, are really good - easy, tasty and (mostly) in line with the WOE we advocate on Bootcamp. As he moved the Fast800 more and more towards a low carb approach, the recipe books became even more accessible for us.

Like many, I followed the news of his going missing very closely, and was hoping that he would be found alive and well. Sadly, it was not to be. He leaves behind a fantastic legacy, I think, and I'm very sad for his wife and children.

Why no dressing @DrBlackbird ? You should be having at least an oily dressing if not also mayo!

You must drink the water - and if you're still hungry then that's because you're not eating enough fat

No dressing because I’m getting more desperate to cut calories to lose weight I suppose @BIWI Definitely I’m eating more healthier so that’s a real plus, but I’d like to shift some pounds too. Better for knees and ankles etc.

Edited to add that I will make a concerted effort to drink the water this week!

But that's not Bootcamp rules @DrBlackbird - have you read them?

So you're not drinking the water, and you're not eating the fat - and you wonder why you're not losing the weight?!

The rules are written for a reason!!!

Evening all,
Currently eating a 3 egg omlette with mushrooms, green pepper, onion and cheese with coleslaw. I know it's late, but it's been a busy day.

@DrBlackbird I hope you have a good weigh in tomorrow morning

@Bex5490 and @Gingerwarthog You are only Human! If you're planning on sticking to Low Carb indefinitely, what's one slip up.😜

BIWI · 16/06/2024 21:51

And you know (or at leat you should do) that we're NOT counting calories.

I know about the no calorie counting @BIWI honest!

No need for the big stick 🦯 just yet 😉 and the appeal of boot camp was the whole not being hungry or counting calories and the fat being good. So yep I read (and liked) the rules and thought I can do this one.

But I did wonder if I’d gone a bit too far with adding cream, mayo and cheese to just about everything I was eating and if that was the reason for plateauing. Hence the no dressing… but believe me, lots of yummy fat is being eaten.

Right, will stick with drinking water. Thanks @MissBeck we’ll see how it goes tomorrow 😬

@DrBlackbird I'm not sure how much you have to lose, but thought I'd pass on a couple of things I've noticed. I've stayed the same on the scales since the start of April, but am gradually chipping away at inches (I think I've lost an inch off my hips in that time; my book of numbers is upstairs and the house is still asleep, so I ain't waking 'em!). I feel like I keep banging on about this, but if you're not already, I find taking lots of measurements so important. I also have to keep well away from most dairy. I have 100g of FFGY a day, but only really use a little cheese in cooking now (e.g sprinkled on veg). But like @BIWI said, sounds like you have to get that olive oil on those salads and keep properly hydrated! I'm loving salads with EVOO and a couple of tsp of apple cider vinegar with sea salt sprinkled over atm.

@UnOeufIsEnough and @venusamdmars - thank you both that is super helpful. I must admit I am a bit excited. I haven't been to Scotland for years and it is my daughter's first time. We want to do the touristy bits, a few galleries and a bit of shopping.

Hello all,
I'm sneaking back in after 2 week of intense work travel that made BC very hard. I've also realised I use food to reward myself though - oh 4am start, have X, lonely night in a hotel room, order Y from room service. It doesn't serve me, so lots to think about. I'm going to catch up with the thread now and report back. So pleased BC is still on.
