Low Carb Bootcamp challenge - lose half a stone before Christmas

BIWI · 07/11/2023 17:09

If we start next Monday, there are 6 weeks leading up to Christmas.

Hopefully that means that we can drop 7lbs in those weeks - but only if we're properly strict.

It's entirely up to you if you want to do strict Bootcamp, or Bootcamp Light across those 6 weeks, although I'd suggest that if you haven't got too much to lose, you veer towards a stricter approach.

It's also, we need to bear in mind, a more difficult time of the year to think about losing weight as there are likely to be more social occasions, so a stricter approach around all of those events is probably a good one!

Who's in?!

I'd call that hearty, @agnesmartin ! It looks delicious. I might try it.

I've done ok so far. Loads and loads of water. It really is so much easier to clock up the litres when you are sipping warm drinks rather than just glugging cold ones.
This may be coincidence, but I slept much better last night because my various aches and pains were troubling me less. Water is so essential to so many body bits (medical term) that it wounldn't surprise me if chronic dehydration had been preventing me from shifting joint inflammation, muscle pain, etc. (Or I guess it could be that the ginger and turmeric in my herbal tea was playing an anti-inflammatory part).

I've been eating better too. No exciting receipes to share because I'm not much of a cook. But plenty of the good stuff and very few carbs. I had a delicious heavily fat-marbled ribeye steak yesterday. Sooo expensive, but I guess I will save money by cutting out snacks, excessive portions and alcohol so it evens out.

@islandtiger I see you've added your name to the spreadsheet - I've deleted it, because you're already on there!

If a boot camp starts in January I'd be very interested.
If it helps, my husband started low carb 6 weeks ago and is now 2 stone down. He's very strict - well it's actually me making majority of meals so why I'm didn't start with him , I don't know and now I'm kicking myself!
But hey, I'll definitely be on board in the new year!
And if there's anywhere where recipes are posted that would be great to see for ideas!

BIWI · 11/11/2023 08:15

@lalaandpo if you go to the Low Carb Bootcamp topic, you'll find a series of threads with recipes - they're organised by food type, e.g. there's one for meat, one for veg, etc.

They used to be stickied at the top of the thread, but I don't think stickies work on the new platform, so you may have to scroll through all the chat.

@prettybird used to have a post with them all linked, but I can't find that - perhaps she can help? <sending her the bat signal!>

Oh, and well done to your DH! Good idea to join him, as it's so much easier if you're both eating/cooking the same things. Why don't you join in the challenge that starts next week? If you're already cooking low carb meals then you know what to do, and should have all the necessary ingredients in your fridge/freezer/cupboard.

You called? Grin

Here is a link to the master thread I started with links to all the recipe threads Smile. I'm doing it on the app, so it's probable that only some of you will be able to open it Blush. When I'm back on the laptop, I'll do a browser link - unless someone has done so for me by then Wink

Links to the Boot Camp Low Carb Recipe threads http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/lowcarbb_bootcamp/4676617-links-to-the-boot-camp-low-carb-recipe-threads

I'll also post on it to bump it to the top of the topic.

I’m writing my shopping list for this afternoon’s shopping trip.

NotAHoot · 11/11/2023 09:46

This is perfect timing! I thought I'd missed sign up but don't think I have 🎉

Can I join please? I am feeling so fat and have been trying healthy eating, no alcohol etc etc but getting nowhere. I'm done keto/Atkins in the past so think I know the very basic principles, but really glad to have some company and a thread on here too.

Thanks for starting Flowers

islandtiger · 11/11/2023 09:59

Thanks @BIWI . New to mumsnet but I'm on the app now and hopefully getting the hang of it. Looking forward to weighing in on Monday.

BIWI · 11/11/2023 10:20

You're very welcome @islandtiger and @NotAHoot!

Just a heads up - if you're accessing MN via mobile, you'll need to download the Google Sheets app to be able to read/use the spreadsheet

... and thank you @prettybird Grin

Morning all. Can I join in? I did the summer boot camp and was thrilled with all the support on here. The weight loss was a great bonus. I have been low carbing since but I have to admit that I have probably scoffed a bit too much of Aldi's chocolate with hazelnut in the past few weeks. I have missed @prettybird's stick. I will weigh in tomorrow and add my current weight. I have a trip away in early December which is going to be very challenging as it will be to the land of pizza and pasta and my lovely mil is already preparing and freezing gluten free food for me. I have tried to tell her that I am happy with meat and veg but the concept of low carb and no pasta is alien to her and she insists because she is lovely and is afraid I will starve! 😀 I think the reestablishing and reinforcing of the LCBC habits in the next four weeks will be a valuable tool in my resistance arsenal.

BIWI · 11/11/2023 15:14

You're on the spreadsheet @Goodiewhemper!

After a dreadful week and a carby afternoon tea, I put on 2 pounds. But 3 days later, with water and fat they are gone. Now I have a pot of chicken and spinach soup. Oh heaven!

EversoDisorganised · 11/11/2023 18:38

Oooh, I didn't know there was a thread holding all the recipe threads together, that's handy.

BIWI · 11/11/2023 18:57

It's possible that threads that are stickied stay at the top of a topic - which is certainly what used to happen before MN moved to the new platform (although they were always losing their sticky!). However, if you have adblocker installed, as I do, then stickied posts don't work as, for some reason, they're deemed to be advertising.

I do love a good afternoon tea though.
It is possibly what I miss most on bootcamp.

LadyBird1973 · 12/11/2023 13:45

Am doing okay food wise this week. Made a lovely risotto with cauli/leek rice instead of risotto rice. And a nice beef stir fry with loads of veg and zero carb noodles.
Been helping DS move into his new house and also sorting out some of the junk we've been storing for years - I think keeping busy is helping me up stay away from too much temptation. I think I eat when I'm bored.

BIWI · 12/11/2023 20:52

So I hope everyone is ready for tomorrow?!

Remember, it's not a conventional Bootcamp, so it's entirely up to you what you are going to put in place for the next few weeks. Whether that be strict Bootcamp, Bootcamp Light or a hybrid of the two.

Personally, I'm introducing IF for as many days as I can manage, so I'll be drinking only black coffee each morning, and eating my lunch as late as I can.

And here we go! Horrified by this morning’s weigh in. In the longer term, 2 stones off is the target.

RooRooCooChoo · 13/11/2023 06:54

Weighed in and ready to go! While 14lbs down from my pre-BC weight, I seem to have got stuck and nothing is moving. Bring on this new challenge!

BIWI · 13/11/2023 07:06

Well, the only way is down @qwerty1972!

OP posts:
MrsGMichael · 13/11/2023 07:11

Weighed in and no surprise but still horrified. I used to be 300lb so I know I have come a long way and I am motivated to shed more.

Illness and life has got in the way and caused me to regain 2 stone but no more excuses for me. I am in control of what I put in my mouth.

thank you @BIWI

That is so, so true.

Weighed in. Not quite back to where I was before Covid but I have been enjoying dark chocolate quite a bit over the last couple of weeks, and there was wine at the weekend. Will cut out the chocolate over the next few weeks, and limit the wine.

On it. ;-)

And just about to chug my second glass of water of the day.
