Low Carb Bootcamp challenge - lose half a stone before Christmas

BIWI · 07/11/2023 17:09

If we start next Monday, there are 6 weeks leading up to Christmas.

Hopefully that means that we can drop 7lbs in those weeks - but only if we're properly strict.

It's entirely up to you if you want to do strict Bootcamp, or Bootcamp Light across those 6 weeks, although I'd suggest that if you haven't got too much to lose, you veer towards a stricter approach.

It's also, we need to bear in mind, a more difficult time of the year to think about losing weight as there are likely to be more social occasions, so a stricter approach around all of those events is probably a good one!

Who's in?!

I’d love to join, please. On holiday at the moment, but I’ll sign up on the spreadsheet as soon as I get home.

BIWI · 08/11/2023 18:21

Welcome @GoodOldEmmaNess - and I'm sorry that things have been so tough for you - but I'm glad that his inquest has finally happened Flowers

Well, you're very half welcome @HappyLCHFCamper! Don't worry - totally understand where you're coming from.

Thank you @BIWI I appreciate it! Have already made good progress over the last month or so and am feeling much better.

MrsGMichael · 08/11/2023 19:20

I would like to join please.

I have lost a lot of weight before by low carbing and regained 2 stone which really shows as I am short and apple shaped.

in December next year I am getting married so have renewed motivation. Only got engaged last week.

will sign up on the spreadsheet .

venusandmars · 08/11/2023 19:23

I'm in. Thanks @BIWI

I think I've done all my socialising in the last 2 weeks and will have a quiet time till nearly Christmas. I'll have a very strict few days but away Sunday and Monday and will join you properly on Tuesday. However, Monday I'll be as strict as I can and no alcohol.

bluesupermoon · 08/11/2023 19:31

I'm in too, thanks BIWI! TBH I will be happy to maintain, but it's so helpful to have the accountability and encouragement here.

Luckydog7 · 08/11/2023 19:35

Me too although I started on Monday just gone. Keep losing and regaining to same 10lb and we are booked to fly somewhere warm over Christmas itself so could really do with being slimmer to fit into my cozzy.

Lovecat · 09/11/2023 06:47

Me please! I have lowcarbed before DD with amazing success but just haven't been able to get back on the wagon, even though I was at my healthiest when doing it. DD is now 18 and I'm sooo lardy my knees hurt, so something must be done!

Thank you, BIWI!

ditavonteesed · 09/11/2023 08:03

I'm in. I need to work out how low carbing can fit in with running while I'm not actually training for anything.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 09/11/2023 08:23

Posting my plan for the day, so that I can make myself accountable to you lot:

I think that the most important thing for me today (to work my way back in to the low-carb lifestyle) is to drink loads and loads of water. Because I find that hard, I will continue to use the crutch of sugar-free Ribena (a so-cosy hot drink) just until the current bottle runs out - because I know that excessive puritanism will just set me up to fail.
But I will also buy some NICE herbal tea (it must exist) to transition to.

Foodwise, just for today I will allow myself to skip breakfast and possibly lunch (one of my many bad habits). I'll do a low-carb Tesco shop and begin the regime this evening. I will eat a sensibly sized meal with nothing after. I will NOT have any coffee today beyond my second morning cup. I will certainly not have any evening coffee -- which I have had a lot recently as a kind of milky/creamy 'pudding'.

LadyBird1973 · 09/11/2023 09:36

@GoodOldEmmaNess (fab name) my sister bought some lemon, ginger and manuka honey tea and it was lovely. The three mint pukka is also very good (tetley do a cheaper version which is also great).

islandtiger · 09/11/2023 09:57

Hello boot camp. A friend has recommended this, I’ve lost 3 lbs in 10 days following the principles but some encouragement and tips would be great. I’m looking to lose 21lbs overall so a way to go. 🏝️ 🐯

prettybird · 09/11/2023 10:57

@GoodOldEmmaNess - I was planning on coming on to say how important drinking all the water is. I think that's why I struggled since I came back from South Africa - because I'd got out the habit of drinking water, which made everything else more difficult Sad

I'm now sitting here drinking a cup of rooibos. It helps fulfil my desire to drink tea and I can thole it without milk otherwise I drink far too much tea Smile

I'm also trying to drink at least a glass of water every time I go to the look - which has the advantage of becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy Grin

TheOnlyMrsW · 09/11/2023 11:34

Going to pick up almond flour with this week's shop and make some of the muffins to try and alleviate the bread cravings, wondering if there's any LC alternative to porridge? I tend to go for warming breakfasts in the colder months and am heartily sick of omelettes!!!!

Trying to do all the water as well............but tbh mainly herbal tea at the moment

ditavonteesed · 09/11/2023 11:42

Im another one that has just fit out of the habit with water. I have a 2 litre bottle made up at the side of me with zero tablets in.

I've also got really into matcha tea so I'm wondering if almond milk will work for it. Going to shop now so I'll give it a try.
Really fancying some pork belly and sprouts for dinner. Yum haven't had pork belly for so long.

Thanks for the herbal tea recommendation, @LadyBird1973 . It was very helpful because I saw a tea that more-or-less matched it at the shops just now, and might have been a little afraid of the honey in the list of ingredients. However no bootcamp sirens were activated by your postGrin, presumably because the amount of honey is too ridiculously tiny to be problematic. So
I bought it. Orange, lemon manuka honey, cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric and ginger) and it is very round and warming. A goodly winter brew. Perhaps it can be a crutch and a talisman for me as I try to turn myself around from the slough of despair to the sunlight uplands of healthy eating. That's quite a lot of pressure to put on a tea, though

TurquoiseThings · 09/11/2023 14:10

Thank you @BIWI for all the information but I don't think I'll be able to manage this. Sorry if I've wasted your time (although hopefully all that info will be useful to others!)

EversoDisorganised · 09/11/2023 14:20

I’ll give it a go, although I have got a lot of meals out between now and Christmas. I fell off the last bootcamp threads after the first few weeks and bad habits have crept back in again. I find the high fat aspect harder than the low carb, but that leaves me hungry and susceptible to snacking on carby things.

EversoDisorganised · 09/11/2023 14:20

I have just had vegetable soup and Greek salad for lunch which is reasonable.

BIWI · 09/11/2023 14:32

Not a problem @TurquoiseThings Smile
