Low Carb Bootcamp challenge - lose half a stone before Christmas

BIWI · 07/11/2023 17:09

If we start next Monday, there are 6 weeks leading up to Christmas.

Hopefully that means that we can drop 7lbs in those weeks - but only if we're properly strict.

It's entirely up to you if you want to do strict Bootcamp, or Bootcamp Light across those 6 weeks, although I'd suggest that if you haven't got too much to lose, you veer towards a stricter approach.

It's also, we need to bear in mind, a more difficult time of the year to think about losing weight as there are likely to be more social occasions, so a stricter approach around all of those events is probably a good one!

Who's in?!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Just weighed in and by dint of keeping off the wine and generally sticking to LCBC ( apart from strawberry jam on toast yesterday!) I'm down 2lbs to just under 150lbs. So I've squeaked in at 6lbs loss on my first boot camp. Drinking ALL the water seems to be the magic trick. I'm allowing myself a glass of wine now DH has joined me and looking forward to my first mince pie.
So grateful to everyone for sharing and especially @BIWI of course for setting things up. It works! Happy Christmas to all and look forward to joining some of you for another challenge in January.

Yaaay! - I was 11st 8.25lb this morning. Xmas Grin That's half a pound lower than I was on Christmas Evening last year! Xmas Shock

Doing loads of prep for our Christmas Dinner tomorrow night. Got the ham on to boil and have also made the base for the ris à l'amande (Danish Christmas pudding). It's had chopped almonds, sugar and a wee bit of butter mixed in and then will have whipped cream and a single whole almond folded through it.

Great news @prettybird!

Christmas food prep is well under way here - everything already cooked (and in the freezer) for tomorrow. (Must remember to take it out of the freezer tonight!)

We're having fish pie, and roasted broccoli tomorrow. I've made myself a separate pie, using celeriac and leek mash for mine. (Which is a terrible shame as I make fantastic mashed potato Xmas Grin). I've also made chocolate brownies which we'll have with Baileys ice-cream. I am not depriving myself of that.

Christmas day will be roast sirloin of beef, with red wine gravy, with roast potatoes and parsnips, pigs in blankets, sprouts and chestnuts and carrots. Oh, and Yorkshire puddings. I've experimented this year and have made and frozen these - just hope that they work as well as doing them on the day. Then sticky toffee pudding with home-made vanilla ice-cream.

Boxing day we're off to the pub for lunch, so no more cooking for me! I have a ham that I roasted yesterday, and lots of lovely cheese for the evening.

I think I've put on half a stone just writing all of that!

Anyway, thank you all for joining me on this challenge - I didn't lose as much as I wanted to, but I have kept off the half stone I've lost since September although by the end of this week that probably won't be true and I'm actually looking forward to a strict, and dry, January challenge.

Happy Christmas to everyone Xmas Smile

Happy New Year. I hope everyone is feeling ok after the festive food fun! It's been interesting to notice all the impossible food choices at this time of year, and I've done a mixture of relaxing the low carb and trying to be moderate. But Baileys is my downfall! I often avoided anything that resembled a party at New Year's Eve but we are away with friends in Austria and the restaurant has been booked! So I'm going to enjoy tonight, drink in moderation, celebrate and look forward to starting afresh in 2024.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 01/01/2024 11:52

I tried to moderate over Christmas week and to eat low carb except when presented with special favourites. It was very different to the month of over-eating I can usually manage but still felt good.

Starting on Christmas Eve I made exceptions for some homemade Christmas cake and some homemade mince pies... +some squares of milk chocolate (they were not how I remember) and had pudding on Christmas Day. I drank wine on non-weekend days this week-had a very little bread and some roast potatoes.

I don't feel deprived and do feel happy about going back to low carb. (My insides are so much less gurgley when I do and sleep is easier.)

I am not worried about temporary weight gain (I really didn't eat enough excess to add fat to my frame) because of this week...but hope not too much damage was done to my resolve.

(Were the exceptions the thin end of a fat wedgeBlush or can I leave them and get back to non-feast eating?)

Happy New Year all- see you here soon ?

Morning everyone, just checking in as I am starting today. I will update the spreadsheet later, I have put on over Christmas but I have to say it's not as bad as previous years, as I started later thanks to the December thread. I just thought I would share this recipe here, my friend made it for me over Christmas and it was amazing, not sure if sundried tomatoes are OK though @BIWI ? If they are I will add it to the recipe thread.

That recipe sounds lovely - although 'serves 3' is a bit unusual!

Based on Sainsbury's sundried tomatoes in oil, that ads 3.8g carbs per person, so not too bad.

Thanks- I will join the strict Jan challenge.

That recipe sounds lovely. I look forward to feeling well enough to enjoy that soon.

(Horrible Christmas virus here.)
