Low Carb Bootcamp challenge - lose half a stone before Christmas

BIWI · 07/11/2023 17:09

If we start next Monday, there are 6 weeks leading up to Christmas.

Hopefully that means that we can drop 7lbs in those weeks - but only if we're properly strict.

It's entirely up to you if you want to do strict Bootcamp, or Bootcamp Light across those 6 weeks, although I'd suggest that if you haven't got too much to lose, you veer towards a stricter approach.

It's also, we need to bear in mind, a more difficult time of the year to think about losing weight as there are likely to be more social occasions, so a stricter approach around all of those events is probably a good one!

Who's in?!

Yes I'll be there for January too please. I find it easier to stay on the LC wagon when there are fewer social events, and I find people are quite supportive of 'different' ways of eating in January. Normally I'm good at navigating restaurant menus but at this time of year I feel it's a bit unfair to add to their pressure with requests for changes, particularly if I'm out with a very large group, and often the menu is a bit smaller to begin with.

I've wavered on and off the wagon this week, on some days I've eaten alot of rubbish but I've also mixed in some virtuous days too.

islandtiger · 17/12/2023 16:27

@BIWI totally teetotal January. I love that. I'm definitely in. This pic tells the story of my Sunday so far! 🤪 🎄.

Xmas Grin

You'd be very welcome to join me @islandtiger, @Baystard and @LadyBird1973

Perhaps @prettybird you could run an alternative January Bootcamp? I know that Burns Night is a special night for you, but I'd really like to have a thread that is without any temptation to start drinking.

Can you count me in too please. Apart from a glass or two of Prosecco (which I really look forward to) on a Friday I don't really drink. I have not had a great week overall. I have had a few great days but yesterday and Friday were a disaster. I really do not want to get on the scales in the morning. A few weeks of strict bootcamp woukd be a great start to the new year.

prettybird · 17/12/2023 18:06

I won't mention any alcohol - nor Burns Night. Promise! Grin

TheOnlyMrsW · 17/12/2023 19:06

I'm in for Jan I've previously found "Dry January" an issue (it's a me thing according to DC) as the second someone tells me I can't have something it's everything I ever needed!!!!! However I know for myself that I'm far better off if I don't drink and it will help my weight loss more than anything else. It will also help my much-needed frugal push as we need to save a lot for a new roof next summer..........
Just about hanging on this week but also really interesting (for me at least) how much of our normal activities are centered around food and alcohol. I'm actually looking forward to working out how to make different connections in my head to break those habits. Third asking for plates without the carb element when eating out as it's very easy to just try a mouthful if it's there!
**Will probably join both threads if that's an option as like @prettybird we have Burns and DH"s birthday at the end of January and last year was a complete dumpster fire for him because of things at my side

EversoDisorganised · 17/12/2023 19:11

I can easily do teetotal (it's not unusual for me to go weeks on end with no alcohol) but we have three family birthdays including mine and a "big" one in the first few weeks of the year so I will definitely need to have some motivation from you all to steer me through.

BeethovenNinth · 17/12/2023 19:29

Still here! Hanging in through v stressful threat of redundancy and nights out. I go off the wagon and back on again.

I haven’t weighed myself but think it’s ok.

anyone any recipes for Xmas treats?! This is where I fall down

Frumpyunicorn · 17/12/2023 20:08

Hi everyone, well this weekend I have (kind of planned) fallen off the wagon completely, back on it again tomorrow now until Sunday. But it has got me thinking I need to plan better and have some low carb treats, as after this afternoon I feel really sick and whilst I had carbs I didn't really eat loads. My body feels so much better on low carb, so I need to listen to that and not be swayed. I will join in January but not until the second as its my birthday on the first and so I will be having a glass of wine then.

LadyBird1973 · 18/12/2023 07:58

Good morning all. Am 1 and three quarters of a pound down this week, which brings my total to 6lb this bootcamp. So not quite at target but certainly a better position that I was 7 weeks ago. I'm going to keep going and have a final push over the next 5 days, as much as possible. This will be a bit tricky as I have family coming from America this week and Christmas social activities ramping up. But I will do my best.
I've been doing lots of long walks to burn calories and have had a cold, which has killed my appetite, so that helped a bit.

islandtiger · 18/12/2023 08:15

Morning. I've STS this week so 4lb lost so far this boot camp. Quite relieved after a very up and down carby week. I feel so much better when on LC days. Will try one last push this week.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 18/12/2023 08:18

Happy to have made the 7lbs loss, but to be fair I have covid to thank for that, 4 days of lying in bed with no appetite and not feeling well enough to make anything to eat certainly helped. I have a meal out tonight and Christmas Day to navigate, but otherwise planning on being well behaved.

The real challenge will be going to Florida on the 29th, although I did discover online that there’s a pizza takeaway that delivers that does cauliflower base pizzas which I’ve got to try at least once!

qwerty1972 · 18/12/2023 08:27

Thank you for this Bootcamp @BIWI

Started - 153.6
Ended - 149.1
Total loss - 4.5lbs

I wasn't particularly strict and this last week has been challenging (elderly relatives with very major health issues), so I'm pleased with that.

I'll be back in January. The aim is to maintain over Christmas and then lose another 20lbs by summer 2024 (fingers crossed).

EversoDisorganised · 18/12/2023 08:42

Back up a little this week but not surprised, I have slacked off. Still overall I am 4lb lighter than I was at the beginning of Nov (I had started BCing by myself again a week or so before this thread came along) which is good news. Thanks @BIWI and to everyone else for being such a freat support group.

agnesmartin · 18/12/2023 09:02

I went completely off-piste this weekend 😬 so using my weigh in on Friday which was a STS. I had started eating dark chocolate again which unfortunately slows weightless for me.

Back on LC today at least until Saturday.

Thanks very much for BIWI for organising this, and for everyones' company and support.

Would really appreciate a thread for Jan too. 🙏🏼

Stayed the same again this week, lost 2lbs early on but put it back on. So definitely here for January. January 9th will be my 1 year BC anniversary and would love to make the same progress that I made last year. Low carb is my way of life now, so many benefits even if pounds stubbornly refuse to fall. Most of all, the control over my appetite, no low blood sugar binges or hangry episodes. And the 21lbs I lost last year between Jan and August has stayed lost. Last years progress - need to stick it up on the fridge!

Frumpyunicorn · 18/12/2023 10:57

I have stayed the same too and will be joining in January to continue to lose. Like @OldandTired66 I have found so many benefits as well as weightless. Thanks @BIWI for all your support.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 18/12/2023 14:16

I didn't get to any scales today but will check on those tomorrow. Things outside this have been chaotic and distressing but I made my 7 lb last week and am hoping for a little more or just consolidation. I have stuck to the plan.

I feel better eating like this and can fit it into life (despite the struggles in places like cafes and hospitals)

I now suspect that at least one of the carby foods disagrees with me. ( No IBS when low carbing despite some very serious stress last week)

Carrierbagofseedsandstars · 19/12/2023 07:47

Very pleased to have lost another 1.6 lbs. I feel so happy to have found this way of eating.

I'd love to be part of dry January - thank you @BIWI I'm away on a work trip to
West Africa for a fortnight at the start of January- and it will be really good
way to keep on track. I'm looking forward to going, but also feeling a
bit anxious about whether it will be possible to low carb while I'm there, as I
haven't been to this area before.

I was just wondering, is there a final weigh in before Christmas?

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/12/2023 10:35

Lost the lb I put on the week before which I'm pleased about, think I'll struggle getting to 7lb off by the big day but taking positives too. I'm the lightest I've been for at least 10 years, eating better and drinking less (mostly), avoiding processed food as much as possible and finally starting to sleep better 😊

HazelNuttyElf · 19/12/2023 15:16

I certainly didn't reach 7lbs, but I'm close to goal weight for me so weightloss slows down.
I am also interested in a dry January bootcamp. I really need to get my drinking reduced and reset.
Thank you for running these bootcamps @BIWI! They really help keep me on track, even though I hardly post anything, I do follow and read the thread.

Magnolia82 · 19/12/2023 15:53

I don't really drink (maybe a glass of wine every few months) but would definitely be keen to join a January thread. I find these threads really helpful.

prettybird · 20/12/2023 08:44

I'm 11st 9lb, so only a quarter of a pound to go until I've reached where I got to last Christmas Eve Xmas Smile

So only a 1/4lb to go - but it would be lovely with all the running about I've still to do Xmas Shock if I could achieve another 2 1/4 lb to get below 11.5lb, which would also be where I'd got to Christmas 2021 Xmas Wink

But I'm happy anyway as I've so far lost just over 9lb this Boot Camp Xmas Grin despite the brief face first fall into tablet Xmas Blush

Had a lovely frittata yesterday (which also used up an extra egg yolk, left over from making marzipan) with shallots, leeks and ham chunks (belatedly extracted from a year in the freezer Shock). Have some leftover which I'll have for breakfast Smile

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 20/12/2023 09:46

Stayed the same on the scales this week - so just made my 7 lb loss this boot camp. Thankyou @BIWI

I stuck to low carb this week but struggled with keeping up with water. ( Travel and hospital visits made this difficult... and when home good habits have not been restarted. )

I want to enjoy Christmas but not for two whole weeks so will stick to low carbing for a while yet.
