Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

... for you to confess all. (Although I notice it seems to have gone a bit awry - some of the rows don't line up, so hopefully @FinallyHere will be along soon with her tool kit.

Good to hear from the end of the last thread that there are some good results. But also, there was a fair bit of slippage, even though it was only week 1. You need to keep an eye on that, as it won't be helping you in the long run.

@EquallyDetermined - please don't worry about seeming 'whiny' (which you weren't!). That's exactly what these threads are for. I was a bit puzzled, though, as to why you aren't enjoying the food, given how many lovely things we can eat. What have been typical meals for you? Can we help in any way? (And have you had a look at the recipe threads, for some inspiration?)

Good to hear @VeryGoodVeryNice😂

I had a really funny tummy last night, shooting pains and lots of gurgling. Still feels off this morning but I don't know what could have caused it. I didn't eat a great deal yesterday as didn't have much of an appetite so will try to get a bit more food in today. I'm in the office so will pop to M&S for some nice bits to tempt me.

B: going to try and eat some scrambled eggs. Normally can't manage it too early but think it might help my stomach
L: M&S picnic
D: chilli and roast broccoli tho just realised my mince is only 5% fat so that's not ideal. Can I add butter to my portion or is that a bit weird?

Gnomegnomegnome · 19/09/2023 07:42

@VeryGoodVeryNice congratulations! 🎉

@Carrierbagofseedsandstars I love aubergine parmigiana! Adding that to my list to make after our holiday.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 19/09/2023 08:16

@AllTheBlackCoffee I had the same tummy issue one night about a week ago, was pretty uncomfortable and every time it gurgled it set the puppy off barking 🙄, so that was a fun night. Luckily it was just one night though, hope you feel better soon.

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/09/2023 09:05

@AllTheBlackCoffee we're on chilli tonight as well as it's Taco Tuesday, I'll be taking mine out of the pan before the beans are added and probably cabbage instead of taco shells 😋. Yesterday felt like a very bitty day so more organised this morning - big field mushroom fried in butter then cooked bacon, spinach and sundried tomatoes to the pan, scrambled some eggs and put it all on a plate with feta, was very yum. Lunch will be the remains of some salad leaves with FFGY and the chilli - I've realised that whilst I like the freedom of this woe I really really dislike cooking for myself during the day (tidying a kitchen more than once a day should be banned!!!) so I'm going to get a bit more organised I think. I sort all of DH's work lunches for the week at a weekend so need to put the same effort into myself - hmmmm interesting thought.

Absolutely foul here today, non-stop rain overnight and so far today, winds that are blowing the rain sideways and apparently feels like 10 degrees according to my weather app so I'm going to amuse myself while I should be working by looking at LCHF winter recipes for the slow cooker!!!

@VeryGoodVeryNice hope you feel more comfortable this morning

AllTheBlackCoffee · 19/09/2023 09:57

@TheOnlyMrsW I use loads of mushrooms instead of kidney beans in my chilli - increase the veg, has a bit of a similar texture and no one seems to have noticed!!!

FinallyHere · 19/09/2023 10:38

welcome @sunshineinmysprocket & @Frumpyunicorn glad to have you on board.

and gratters @VeryGoodVeryNice glad you got that sorted. ;-)

VeryGoodVeryNice · 19/09/2023 10:41

I definitely feel more comfortable today, and was excited to get on the scales this morning thinking that should have shifted things downwards a bit…and I’m a lb heavier than yesterday 🤨.

OldandTired66 · 19/09/2023 10:45

Pleased things have started moving for you, @VeryGoodVeryNice, but so sorry for your poor friend. Horrendous.
Yesterday was a good day, proper BC. Today, breakfast was 1 egg omelette with cheese, lunch will be chicken salad with crispy streaky bacon. Dinner Spag bol with exciting first try of konjac noodles. Babybel for snack. We always use 5% mince but I add grated cheese if I want to increase fat content, or have with buttery savoy cabbage chopped fine.

... which is why we really don't trust the scales!

There could be all kinds of things going on here, so I wouldn't panic, just KOKO and wait till next week's weigh-in

Don’t worry not giving up! I have lost an inch around my waist (the only measurement I took at the start), and my blood pressure is pretty much spot on now, I’m monitoring it twice a day at home.

Diced aubergine takes the place of kidney beans for us. It really soaks up the flavour of the chilli and adds a bit of texture and veggie goodness.

(All mushrooms are carefully preserved for the 👿 )

I'd planned my approx. monthly weigh in at work today on the fancy smancy scales which provide all.sorts.of information, like muscle mass, hydration and fat. They had only been snaffled from the nice private corner in the gym to an exhibition space to celebrate 'fitness day'. Shall try again next week.

Monthly works for me alongside how i fit into my 1990 vintage (non-stretchy) Levi's white shorts. It wasn't not pleasant at the time but i wish now that I had weighed myself at what turned out to be my heaviest (so far) so i had a number to benchmark against. At the time, each time i weighed myself seemed to lead to a carb-eating frenzy so i gave that up as a bad job until i could be sure that I had lost some avoirdupois

@VeryGoodVeryNice Notoriously deceitful things, scales. If you want to see the evidence, weigh yourself, drink a litre of water (weight 1kg) and weigh yourself again before any visits. The results might surprise you :-)

@RooRooCooChoo gratters on the loss. When the scales show a loss, I forget all about how deceitful scales can be and count it s a win. :-)

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/09/2023 16:30

Thanks AllTheBlackCoffee & LiesDoNotBecomeUs, love the idea of mushrooms/courgettes (my go-to aubergine replacement as I can't stand the stuff!) however fussy DC won't go anywhere near them.............doesn't stop me adding them to mine however! They're only here half the time as 50/50 split with exDH so we do get to eat nicer and more interesting things then!

VeryGoodVeryNice · 19/09/2023 20:48

I picked these up in TK Maxx yesterday and they’re surprisingly nice 👍🏻. Even the puppy likes them.

Week 2 - Back-to-school Bootcamp - our first weigh-in!
Carrierbagofseedsandstars · 19/09/2023 20:52

Felt today was hard... a challenging day at work and I was really craving something carby. I managed to resist the temptation, mainly by drinking loads of water, but I am feeling flat and tired.
I also feel like I have a horrible, bitter taste in my mouth - hopefully no bad breath 😬but I am cleaning my teeth many times during the day.

B FFGY
L Smoked mackerel with cabbage and green beans
D Aubergine parmigiana with asparagus and broccoli
S Brie

This is day 5 for me of this new way of eating, so I am hoping that this is just my body adapting.

Frumpyunicorn · 19/09/2023 21:01

Hi everyone. I am on day two, I stuck to it but did struggle still with the afternoon slump and have felt a bit headachey and tired. Can I ask, are no onions allowed? What do people put in bolognasie etc? I have always added them to everything. Thanks 😊

LadyBird1973 · 19/09/2023 21:21

I'm still using onions cos I keep forgetting to buy shallots. But I don't use lots. In all honesty, it wasn't onions that made me fat!

Had a reasonable day today. Instead of cream I use keto powder in my coffee - I don't know if it's the placebo affect or if it really does work, but it has reduced my cravings for sugar.
Food was scrambled egg on low carb toast and a burger with butter fried sprouts, small onion, mushrooms and bacon. I add caraway seeds and it's really nice. Did have a square of the divine dark choc which was in the fridge, but that's it. It's my totm, so I feel I'm doing well not to fall head first into the beige carbs!

Sheraprincessofflower · 19/09/2023 21:26

I’ve had a bad day today. Stuck to the rules like glue until I ate a load of chocolate. It’s not like me - I’m usually very happy eating this way and don’t get tempted. Maybe my period is due or something. Anyway, o need for the big stick as I eat this way for the health benefits with weightloss as a bonus, so losing weight isn’t my main aim here. But I probably won’t have done my health any favours which was silly.

adviceatthislatestage · 19/09/2023 21:38

Was at an all day conference and was super pleased as was able to stick completely to LCB rules

B- coffee and a pack of M&S Serrano ham crisps
L- chicken tagine, cauliflower, broccoli and aubergine
D-wasn't really hungry so just had some FFGY

But now, I am sat here craving something sweet and not sure why. There are 4 cakes in the cupboard that DD bought to share with everyone. I am literally sitting on my hands so I don't cut myself a piece.

I haven't drunk as much water today- could it be that?

nappiesandcontracts · 19/09/2023 22:31

@adviceatthislatestage that's an interesting thought about the water...I've only managed 1.5l today rather than my usual 2.5-3l and have been absolutely desperate for something sweet. Caved and had a piece of toblerone Confused

Okaygoahead · 19/09/2023 22:43

I don’t want to gloat too much straight after two posters who didn’t manage to meet their water goals, but I did actually only come on to the thread right now to crow I DRANK ALL THE WATER!!! Crowing because I usually conk out at around 2 litres and I really should be at three.
Feeling a bit lightheaded though - I guess I need to be careful to up my salt intake ?
Otherwise, breakfast of FFGY, lunch tuna salad with an egg mashed in, dinner steak and green beans. Cheese for snack.

PowerTulle · 19/09/2023 22:47

Felt really hungry today.

B: Ffgy, several coffees
L: Pan fried asparagus, bacon, eggs
S: Prawn salad
D: chicken in cream and mushroom sauce with broccoli and cauliflower. Chunk of Stilton for afters.

I’m in bed now and still feel peckish! Drank at least 2.5L water so can’t be that. Must just be a day for needing fuel.

VeryGoodVeryNice · 19/09/2023 23:01

I’ve been fairly virtuous today. I woke up to phone the school, then went back to sleep until 1pm, my chronic fatigue is baaaaaaad at the moment :(

Had berries, chia seeds and FFGY (I’m veggie and on week 3) for breakfast.

Snack of a couple of slices of leerdammer cheese.

Dinner of cauliflower bake and salad.

Snack of green bean crisps.

I also had an ECG today which is all normal, but whilst there I asked about my iron levels which were 11, and she was like oh yes they’re fine, normal range is 11-300. So I was like umm well 11 is pretty low then, surely? So ordered some spatone, hopefully that will perk me up. I managed to go for a short run, but otherwise I’ve been sat down or asleep pretty much all day.

Also strongly contemplated phoning SS on myself. So not the best day all round but didn’t eat any carbs, so there’s that 🤷‍♀️.

Malin2Mizen · 19/09/2023 23:15

That's tough with the CF @VeryGoodVeryNice Well done on managing a little run. and staying carb free IS a good thing (from a comfort eater here)

Thanks for the veg recipes last week - I need to do some batch cooking tomorrow. So ideas are good.

Today I had
B. 4 eggs in a cup, little butter. Creamy coffee.
L. Chicken salad (from work - pretty poor, cold chicken and leaves. Vinigrette dressing but little of it. I had to add mayonnaise. Shock horror, it cost €19.50! I was raging that I hadn't cooked)
D. half a steak and leftover veg bake - aubergine, courgette, peppers, onion.

Not brilliant on the water front today, but I did hit 10,000 steps (happy dogs) and I swam this evening.
