Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 2 - how did you get on?!

BIWI · 15/01/2023 23:00

Evening all! I'm posting the week 2 chat thread this evening, as I know how keen everyone will be to post tomorrow. As I'm retired now, I no longer have to set an alarm to wake up, so I don't want to keep everyone waiting tomorrow morning to post.

I love this week. It's when we see how much people have lost, and it can be a significant amount. It can be a real leap of faith for anyone who hasn't low carbed before, and all those who really don't believe you can eat that much fat and still lose weight!

I'm really hoping that you've all had a good first week, and that your commitment 'to the cause' has been rewarded with a good result - be that on the scales, with your tape measure, or the currently-too-tight clothes that you've been trying on.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope very much that you've had a good first week, and that you're feeling supermotivated for the rest of Bootcamp.

However - if you haven't lost, or you have even gained, please don't be downhearted. We're all different, and there may be lots of reasons why this is the case for you. It's also really important to note that it's not a competition. We all lose at different rates - plus, anyone who is bigger will lose more/faster than someone who is smaller.

Hopefully there are other benefits to this WOE that will keep you on track - at the very least, I hope that you have been enjoying the food, and that you don't feel deprived, like you would be on a low calorie/fat diet.

@FinallyHere thanks for the tip on writing comments/C+P. Might give that a go if I think I'm going to be verbose...

I love the mad bootcamp priorities; a microwave fire is overlooked because we're horrified at honey GrinGrin

Hope all okay @QforCucumber, I just had to replace my microwave as it was sparking Confused

TangledWebOfDeception · 19/01/2023 21:56

Oh yes @QforCucumber hope it wasn't a flaming fire of fierce dimensions!!

LittleMy77 · 19/01/2023 22:06

Thanks, it seemed to be the bowl contents on fire rather than microwave itself 🤦🏽‍♀️ bbc GF recipe said microwave for 10 mins, stir then 10mins again - I clearly didn’t think about keeping an eye on it.

dh keeps giving me evils because the kitchen really smells like burn now oops.

Gingerwarthog · 19/01/2023 22:10

QforCucumber · 19/01/2023 22:22

Jenasaurus · 18/01/2023 23:09

Are you not a fan of the green balls of flatulence :)

Hated as a child but they were boiled to death. I don’t mind DH’s at Xmas as he does them in butter and bacon and they’re still crispy. They’re good once a year.

venusandmars · 19/01/2023 23:07

Well that didn't work, but it was Miss Trunchbull in full fury shouting aat Miss Honey. I thought it was funny... although @BIWI looks nothing like Miss Trunchbull, honestly

venusandmars · 19/01/2023 23:09

Someone mentioned upthread that they were feeling quite bloated, sorry I forget who it was, and I’ve been the same this week. I’ve not had that before when doing low carb so I’m a bit confused.
I’ve been eating breakfast which I don’t usually do so I wonder if it’s connected to that.

breakfast has been scrambled egg made with butter and cream and some avocado.

lunch has been courgette soup which I’ve been making with cream rather than the creme fraiche it says in the recipe. Also been having olives, baby mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes. This helps me get through the afternoon as last week I was really hungry by hometime.

Dinner has been turkey burgers with salad, pork medallions in a creamy mushroom sauce with veg, beef kebabs with salad and chilli and I’ve been trying to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. I’m not hungry so I must be doing something right.

i’m hoping that the bloating will go away soon, maybe if I stop breakfast next week and go back to intermittent fasting things will improve.

Hopeislost · 20/01/2023 00:11

Celeriac doesn't have the 'effect' on me that some people have mentioned, although I tend to eat it raw. Highly recommend celeriac remoulade, especially on the side of a piece of grilled fatty meat Wink

Result for me tonight. DH did a late night shop for ice cream. I told him to buy me a scratch card instead of food treats - I won £20! Am going to spend it on posh cheese and olives for the weekend!

DontGetEvenGetEverything · 20/01/2023 02:19

@Jenasaurus that is a brilliant result with your metabolic age drop!! I'm yet to get back into my gym routine post Christmas / wedding / New Year celebrations, this helps motivate me.

I'm enjoying not looking quite so jowl-ey. I was putting sunscreen on this morning and thought, Oh, what a pretty neck!

Savedmybacon · 20/01/2023 05:56

@DontGetEvenGetEverything It's minus 4 in Kent - am very jealous that you need sunscreen - but well done for the neck!
