Pre-Christmas 22 Boot Camp: Week 4

Good Morning all! Flowers Sorry I’m a bit late - had a fabulous weekend away and will weigh in myself tomorrow after spending the day drinking a lot of water Blush

Here we are in Week 4 already - nearly half way through Shock, Remember that many of us experience a few weeks of doldrums over Weeks 3, 4 and even possibly week 5, where the scales will resolutely refuse to move —or even move upwards slightly Shock. This is normal, so keep the faith, follow the rules Smile, KOKO and the scales will move again. In the meantime, concentrate on the NSVs, like better sleep, better skin, more energy and/or looser clothes. Smile

Remember that this is a marathon not a sprint, and try not to get too fixated on the short term.

I’ll get @FinallyHere to link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Flowers

Here's to another good week Flowers

I've walked miles today and I'm suffering for it now! I have arthritis in my knees and feet, which is one reason I want to lose weight. But walking hurts - usually I swim or cycle.

I may have a little glass of wine this evening and zone out a bit.

B: a slice of seriously low carb toast and butter
L: pret a manger Nicoise salad with oily dressing
D: home made chicken satay and salad

Need to drink more water this evening too!

Baystard · 10/11/2022 19:36

@prettybird i love your point about valuing ourselves as more than dustbins, so very true.

I also struggle with moderation but I'm finding it easier to avoid binging altogether having got my hormones seen to (HRT).

@ditavonteesed I love flowers and I'm drawn to the idea of having non-food treats over the Christmas period.

One year I made LC trifle which was lovely and satisfied the psychological need for a festive pudding without the carbs. I'm planning to have lots of cheese around (thinking about making a huge cheeseboard just for me), and maybe make some sort of festive flavoured toasted nuts. I'll probably give the potatoes a miss as if I ate one it would only be for the nostalgia.

I'm whirring along without weighing. I reflected recently that in a way I'd been substituting food rewards with the reward of the scales moving, and then becoming derailed when the reward didn't materialise as is eventually inevitable. I'm going by fewer, and far more unpredictable rewards now so that I'm not swapping the addiction to something else.

I like treating myself to flowers: I'm about to start buying them again after not needing to since February, as I've been able to get flower arrangements from the garden.

This was my last one of the year, picked on 2 November with the last of the dahlias, calendula, inula and a gladiolus FlowersSmile

They're beautiful, prettybird!

FinallyHere · 10/11/2022 22:38

Lovely flowers @prettybird

DianaBarry5 · 10/11/2022 22:44

Help me! I've overhauled my diet, cut out all the crap and I'm not losing much at all. I don't drink! Please can someone tell me what to eat as I need to laid a lot in a short time as possible. Take pity on me low carbers! I need a plan but don't know what to do!

DianaBarry5 · 10/11/2022 22:45

Can any of you lovely lot point me in the right direction. I'm 59 is that why?

BIWI · 10/11/2022 23:04

Well, @DianaBarry5, you've landed in the Low Carb Bootcamp, so why not follow the plan here?! Have you had a read of the rules? They're in the spreadsheet which is linked to at the beginning of this thread.

DianaBarry5 · 11/11/2022 05:34

BIIWI,I was hoping you'd reply! Ok thank you. I've never been so motivated, I've cut so much out but I'm not really seeing results.

DianaBarry5 · 11/11/2022 05:46

I'm a snacker and I've 100% cut out all snacks and the scales are just not moving. I've lost a few lbs in the last couple of weeks but bought some new scales so I don't know exactly how much as my old ones were inaccurate. I've got up this morning and nothing off again! I feel I'm doing everything right so it's so frustrating

DianaBarry5 · 11/11/2022 05:47

Where are the rules? I can't see a link

prettybird · 11/11/2022 08:18

Hi @DianaBarry5 Welcome Flowers

The Rules are in one of the tabs of the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which @FinallyHere linked to in the second or third post of this thread. (She will also put your name on the Weigh-in tab if you want to keep track of your weight loss - but it's not compulsory Wink)

Not sure how long you've been low carbing or how much you've lost or want to lose or over what period but after the initial whoosh (which not everyone experiences), an average of 1-2lb a week is both normal and healthy. Coupled with the fact that there is often a stall (or even a slight increase) in Weeks 3,4 and even 5 means that some weeks there might be more of a loss and other weeks less. It's one of the reasons why we recommend taking measurements or using a too tight piece of clothing that you want to get back into, so that when the scales aren't moving, you may still see the benefit in your body (plus the other benefits like better skin, better sleep or more energy from all the water).

Why not list out what you've been eating over a typical day and we can see if there is anything obvious you can tweak?

Are you having enough water and fat? You might be having too much dairy for your particular physiology (in this context, butter doesn't count as dairy).

@DianaBarry5 as well as the rules on the spreadsheet, have a read of this thread - a prep thread from an earlier Bootcamp, which will give you a good idea of what to do/not do and what to expect.

Glad to hear you're so motivated Grin

You'll also find lots of support on this thread, so any questions you have just ask them here.

FinallyHere · 11/11/2022 09:44

Hello @DianaBarry5 here is your very own link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

There is usually a link at or near the top of each thread. I've added your name in case you would like to log your stats. No pressure

Have a look at all the tabs on the spreadsheet for everything you need to know about BIWI's fabulous boot camp programme. You have absolutely come to the right place for in depth knowledge and great friendly support. Enjoy.

FinallyHere · 11/11/2022 09:44

@DianaBarry5 meant to ask whether you are still on PEI :-)

BIWI · 11/11/2022 09:52

OMG that's why the name is so familiar!

Love, love, love Anne of Green Gables. And have been to the house in PEI a couple of times too Grin

prettybird · 11/11/2022 12:47

I failed at my self-care objective last night: fell asleep on the sofa at about 11 and woke up at 10 past 12 Blush

Taking the positive, it shows my sleep pattern is shifting earlier. I just need to get off the sofa and into bed earlier Grin

Will buy myself a bunch of flowers later at Lidl FlowersSmile

DianaBarry5 · 11/11/2022 13:07

God you're all Wonderful !

BIWI · 11/11/2022 13:19

We do try Grin!

ditavonteesed · 11/11/2022 16:19

Hi and welcome @DianaBarry5.

Managed to stay away from the office chocolates of doom for my night shifts so feeling good. I know it's not the point but I'm actually quite jealous of you being able to stay up till midnight @prettybird I'm usually asleep on the sofa by half eight and tucked up in bed by ten.

DianaBarry5 · 11/11/2022 17:22

Prettybird
FinallyHere
Biwi

Thank you so much! I'd never leave PEI 😉

Going to have a good read after a quick walk... I do 16/8 which suits me... is that ok?

prettybird · 11/11/2022 17:35

IF/16:8 is OK if you are confident that you're ketogenically adapted (you say that you've been doing this for a wee while) and that you won't fall face first into carbs because you get hungry during the 16 hour fasting period.

IF can be a useful addition to this WoE once you've learnt that you're usually only mouth hungry and not truly hungry. That's the primary reason why we say in the Rules that when you're starting out, you should have three meals a day.

You still need to list out what you've been eating so we can see if there are any tweaks we can suggest Smile

DianaBarry5 · 11/11/2022 17:45

Thank you for your reply. I've been cutting right back which normally works for me plus 16/8 however I'm not seeing results and I need fast results. I've lost about 5lb in the last couple of weeks not low carbing and I really want to see faster results when I'm so motivated.

DianaBarry5 · 11/11/2022 17:47

So basically I'm a low carb newbie. Been on hundreds of diets which have always worked for me... never needed to be drastic before.
