BIWI · 19/09/2022 20:07

By now I'm sure you've all entered your final weight on the spreadsheet

So sorry for the very, very late posting of this thread!

I'm off on holiday, leaving very early tomorrow morning, so not much time to catch up on everyone's progress. But needless to say, I hope that you have enjoyed this Bootcamp, and that you've made good progress towards whatever goals you have set for yourself.

I will have my laptop with me and, wifi willing, will try and catch up with the thread/everyone while I'm away.

Have a lovely holiday!

FinallyHere · 19/09/2022 20:36

Thank you for the new thread @BIWI and have a great holiday.

CleanQueen123 · 19/09/2022 20:46

Have a great holiday!

10lbs down in total this bootcamp. Another 4lbs and that'll be a whole stone.

sushinelove · 19/09/2022 21:39

@BIWI hope you have a fantastic holiday - you deserve it after all the work you put in for us. Enjoy it.

1lb gain for me - been away for a week and really off plan so nothing more than I deserve. I'll be back for the next round!

ditavonteesed · 19/09/2022 23:56

Have a lovely holiday and thanks again and as always

StuntNun · 20/09/2022 07:05

Have a great holiday, BIWI

Whicker · 20/09/2022 09:01

Thanks @BIWI and have a great holiday. Well done to everyone who weighed in yesterday and well done to everyone for keeping going through BC. I’m back from holiday now, plus an extra day for the Queen’s funeral, and am feeling noticeably fatter and creakier and more sluggish than I was before I went! I’ve never managed to stay on the chat threads in between boot camps before, but want to make a real effort this time.

pinknsparkly · 20/09/2022 10:14

Have a lovely break BIWI and thanks as always for the huge amount of work you put into running these bootcamps.

I am slinking in rather shamefacedly to ask if anyone else has overcome this issue.... I have really, really, really struggled to commit to this bootcamp, despite having joined every bootcamp since August last year and having lost of 30lb in total doing so. But I have found myself eating handfuls of carbs (generally cornflakes, bread, chocolate, ice cream, bananas, sultanas, sometimes even my toddler's left over corn/potato/oat based snacks) between meals. At mealtimes I am good at not eating carbs, and serving myself up extra vegetables instead. I'm not hungry, so can't blame it on that at all and don't think it's a result of not eating enough fat as I eat plenty of that. I don't even massively "want" the snacks, I just fancy having something in my mouth. Despite this, I have done ok weight wise (I've been trying to do intermittent fasting most days which I think has helped hold back to tide) as I've lost 3lb in total this bootcamp. I would absolutely have expected to gain weight! Has anyone else had this? And how did they get their heads "back in the game"? My annual blood sugar came back as pre-diabetic this year, having reversed it during my first bootcamp last year, we've been trying (unsuccessfully) to have a second child and I am keenly aware that a lower carb diet would aid with this. But STILL I can't seem to make myself fully commit to it! I have ordered some ingredients to make chocolate avocado muffins from a keto recipe book I have at home and will bake those on Thursday once my food delivery arrives. The recipe has the sweetener as optional, so I will leave that out. I'm intending to keep them in the freezer and pop them in a microwave when I need want a snack. I have a fridge full of veggies, cheese, yogurt etc that I could snack on, but just default to the carbs.... :(

Sorry for the rather long, woe-is-me post! My husband keeps gently asking if I'm not "supposed to be low carbing". I know I need to do it, I generally feel better and will have a healthier and fitter body without the blood sugar issues if I can just stick to it. But somewhere along the lines I've lost my mojo and motivation! I keep getting adverts for hypnosis and have pondered trying out hypnosis for healthy eating but I'm not sure that's what I need because it's not a craving as such, or an active decision to eat a snack, just something I'm doing almost mindlessly.

ditavonteesed · 20/09/2022 16:52

@pinknsparkly mine is biscuits at work, if I have a none I'm fine but the second I put one in my mouth I'm like a woman possessed, lie you I seem to be able to get away with it to a certain extent which makes it harder not to do. I think it must be an emotional brain connection. I don't even really like biscuits, would never choose biscuits if I was choosing any snack. I love crisps but I don't do it with crisps because I think I know if I do that there will be no coming back.

The fact that my weight seems largely unaffected by this I think means I am not as bad as I think but it gives me this weird shame feeling which I think we are programmed as women from a young age to feel around food and maybe even on some level need it for the status quo. It's not nice and we don't need it we can just not self sabotage and be proud.

FinallyHere · 20/09/2022 17:00

@pinknsparkly

I'm usually on either a positive spiral around food, drinking lots of water, eating low carb/high fat, gone old turkey on sugar and feeling good

Or ...

Not drinking the water, mainlining sugar and, err, not feeling good.

I've got to understand a lot about why I'm sometimes motivated and sometimes rebelling against any food restrictions, through Gillian Riley's programme https://gillianriley.comm*. It's called eating less and is based on her original work helping people give up smoking, when she notices how people often start eating instead.

I found it interesting and more importantly, really useful. It works well alongside bootcamp.

pinknsparkly · 20/09/2022 17:16

@ditavonteesed - you've absolutely hit the nail on the head for me! And same as you, god help me if I start on the snacks at work. I will demolish the majority of them to the point where it's a bit of joke with my colleagues. Then I feel guilty and go and buy replacements as I've eaten so much, and then they're there again for me to have to resist! (Though I do try to buy the ones that I'm less tempted by 😄) As you say, being able to "get away with it" to a certain extent makes it much more difficult to convince myself of the necessity!

@FinallyHere , thanks so much! And sorry that you also understand 😥 Did you do the paid online course, or read her books? It looks like there's a free trial starting soon that I'll try to get myself organised enough to participate in!

FinallyHere · 20/09/2022 17:22

I'll be on that 'free trial' @pinknsparkly

I did the course a while back so have free entry to continue for a while yet.

IM me if you would like to borrow the book. I have kindle copy these days so am happy to loan it out to others. I'm also happy to talk about anything that arises for you. Just as I did with bootcamp, I hung around on the fringes for ages before it actually clicked for me. I can remember what 'clicked'. It would make no sense unless you have read something about it.

I first read it with a friend for whom it just clicked instantly so we never really got to discuss the ins and outs. Would be happy to obsess chat 😀

bandbsmummy · 20/09/2022 18:28

Thanks @BIWI, look forward to the next one!
Down 11.9lb in total despite starting late Smile

venusandmars · 20/09/2022 19:33

Joining you all on the 'between BC thread' in the hope that I can keep my motivation up over the next few weeks.

comfortablyfrumpy · 20/09/2022 20:39

Have a lovely holiday @BIWI

1lb down this week. Feeling good.

Koko peeps!

comfortablyfrumpy · 20/09/2022 20:41

^^ to add 6.8lb down this bootcamp. Sticking with it until I shift another stone, then will see if I want to lose any more.

If you are struggling, maybe then low carb is not for you. What makes a diet successful is its sustainability .

A restrictive diet, as in a diet that restrict a macro, is difficult to maintain for some, and that is absolutely fine, because there are many ways in which someone can lose weight. Low carb is only one of many ways, not the only way, nor the best for everyone.

pinknsparkly · 21/09/2022 08:13

@TabascoAddict thanks so much, you're absolutely right that different diets work best for different people. But what's really frustrating is that low carb does work well for me and I'm not hungry on it. It's as if a small part of me is just on a self sabotage mission!! To be honest, the only diets I've ever tried have been calorie counting and low carb. And I massively prefer low carb! So I'm going to try the approach suggested by FinallyHere and see if that helps. If it doesn't then I'll review again!

Sunsnowsun · 21/09/2022 09:12

Thanks @BIWI and wishing you a fab holiday, I’m 8lbs down and am going to stay on this thread with the aim of loosing another half stone.

My biggest NSV this bootcamp is that I can actually fit in my winter clothes, although they are a little snug, but that is so much better than tight/uncomfortable.

@pinknsparkly i totally understand the snacking that you describe, for me it’s almost like I get into a pattern of eating, which snowballs once I start. My downfall is nuts, 4 one day, 8 the next, then a handball ……… you get the picture. One of the things I tried was just to say to myself that I can’t have it now, have a glass of water, but could have it later, most of the time I seemed to be able to stop myself by doing that and found that I no longer wanted it later.

However, for me this bootcamp the biggest reason to join was being told by an eminent diabetes doctor to cut the carbs , (@pinknsparkly you mentioned your pre-diabetics, he was seeing me for something else (fortunately okay) but then he totally changed tack and told me to loose weight. I was so relieved that I was okay, that I decided there and then that I would take his advice . It has been quite liberating, as now when I’m out and people suggest cake etc I just say that I have been advised to loose weight because of my diabetes risk and it totally stops the discussion and “the just have a small piece, you don’t look like you need to loose weight” chat.

Have a good day all and KOKO.

sushinelove · 21/09/2022 11:47

@pinknsparkly I am like you, I don't seem to have an "off switch" where sweet/chocolate/carbs are concerned. This is why low carbing helps me. If I'm strict for around 3 weeks then I find that I lose the cravings for them - doesn't completely go, but hugely reduced. I do need to be in the right headspace for starting otherwise I fall off the wagon and stay off it. This bootcamp has been a game change for me. Last week I ate my body weight in carbs and felt so sluggish and heavy that I was pleased to be home and low carb again. Failing 2 times or 10 doesn't mean you'll never do it.

WantSomeEqualitea · 21/09/2022 15:09

Enjoy your holiday BIWI!

I second what people have said about this feeling sustainable, I'm managing to navigate cooking for my family and meals out (steakhouse anyone?!) The most surprising thing has been the effect it has on hunger levels. I used to be someone that ate a huge bowl of porridge because I thought it would last all morning but I'd be shaking with hunger 2 hours later.
Weighing in on Friday.

WantSomeEqualitea · 21/09/2022 15:10

PS. If there is a general/in-between bootcamp thread could someone please share a link?

BIWI · 21/09/2022 15:17

@WantSomeEqualitea I always keep this thread going - once it finishes, I'll start another one. So there's always an ongoing thread!

Back at work this week after a week on holiday and off bootcamp, and struggling really
badly with getting myself back under control. I brought stacks of low carb snacks with me to the office, and the fridge at home is equally well supplied, but I ate chips at lunch and have just had a huge slice of cake. How do I get my head back in the game after a week of pastries and relaxation?!
