Morning all.

I was going to link, as usual, to the spreadsheet, but it doesn't appear to be working for me this morning Confused. Will have to call on @Baystard to help out!

I was glad to read on the other thread, though, about continuing losses - which is great to hear, especially as we have just finished the dreaded weeks 3 and 4. Hopefully the losses will continue from now on.

This week is likely to offer challenges with the Jubilee weekend, and the inevitable parties (sorry, work meetings) Wink

Like many others, I expect, we're planning on a barbecue - but thankfully barbecue food is probably the most low-carb friendly way to eat at a social gathering. As long as you avoid burger buns or hot dog buns, it's usually all pretty low carb fare - especially when you're making your own salads and marinades etc.

So this week's challenge is to share your favourite barbecue recipes and tips!

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore

300ml double cream
As much mature cheddar as you like, grated (at least 175g)
juice of half a lemon
freshly ground black pepper

In a small saucepan gently heat the cream. Add the cheese and stir till it melts. Add the lemon juice and season with black pepper. (Salt not needed)

@Lougle Callanetics reminds me of the Green Goddess but I may be mixing my 90's exercise videos up Grin

Just got up and had post holiday weigh in with bated breath and...... I'm 1lb down. Woo hoo!!! I was hoping not for a massive gain but a loss is brilliant. I'm also now just into the normal BMI for the first time in about 10 years. This was my pre holiday target so only missed it by a smidge.

Photo attached just because it says 'healthy weight'. I know it's all a load of bollocks given body composition/shape/muscle density etc but it made me feel good anyway!

Jollyholibobs · 03/06/2022 06:45

Woo hoo @Lougle what a result. Well done being in the healthy weight zone too.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 03/06/2022 06:50

Thanks a million @BIWI

Baystard · 03/06/2022 07:12

Happy birthday @Mercedesbenz2022, hope you have a great time. We also lit a beacon for you last night, it was lovely!

Well done @SummerSazz, milestones like that are really exciting aren't they.

The chocolate pots sound brilliant. I don't like oranges but perhaps could try another flavour (amaretto?).

I often have stewed berries or rhubarb with clotted cream for a dessert and had success yesterday by heating up frozen raspberries with a little sherry. It evokes trifle (it's always a raspberry trifle in our family) with the sherry/fruit/cream flavour and texture but without any effort or preparation.

In other exciting news - the butcher is making me some 100% pork sausages to try.

ditavonteesed · 03/06/2022 07:25

Have a fab birthday @Mercedesbenz2022
@SummerSazz so jealous of the under 25, I hit it once for about 2 days last year but it went away and became elusive. Also super cute dog.
I have a lunch out today with friends and I can't find the menu anywhere so no being prepared for me.

Luckily big dog seems to have stopped coughing so assumes it wasn't kennel cough and we can head out into the world again.

Lougle · 03/06/2022 07:26

@Jollyholibobs thanks for the encouragement but it's @SummerSazz who has that victory - well done!!

I'm up slightly again today but KOKO.

Jollyholibobs · 03/06/2022 07:51

Apologies @Lougle and woo hoo @SummerSazz .
Maybe it was a bit early for me with my previous post. Fully awake now.

Lougle · 03/06/2022 08:10

Oh don't apologise, I basked in the praise before I realised it wasn't for me 🤣🤣

BIWI · 03/06/2022 10:34

What are we all up to today? It's finally a bit warmer, so we're having a barbecue this afternoon - perfect for low carbing!

On the menu:

  • chicken thighs, currently marinading in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and fresh oregano
  • rump steak skewers, currently marinading in olive oil, white wine vinegar and fresh rosemary
  • merguez sausages
  • ordinary pork sausages
  • grilled halloumi with a coriander, lemon and garlic dressing
  • home-made coleslaw
  • tomato salad
  • (and some boiled Jersey Royals for DH and DS2)

Relaxing day here, enjoyed watching the service from St Paul's.

Having had a couple of days sitting at the roadside watching the wagon trundling past I'm now trying to be reasonably virtuous. I don't have huge amounts of weight to lose now but I fear losing control of my eating and this is normally the point where it happens.

B- black coffee
L- LC seed crackers with brie.
D- 95% sausages, fried eggs, veg.

bella1426 · 03/06/2022 15:29

Hi all hope you're enjoying the jubilee celebrations, we have a long weekend coming up here in Ireland work Monday off so hopefully also some sunny bbq weather. Just gotta stay booze free this time! Am loving the haloumi suggestion, will definitely try that.
My food today

B - Egg mayo and ham slices
L - chicken and avocado salad
D - roast salmon cauliflower and brocolli with grated cheddar
S - trying to limit it to coffee with cream and cut out snacks totally but still a bit peckish sometimes - drowning it all out with water!

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 03/06/2022 15:37

Hi @bella1426 I am also in Ireland - hello!

Lougle · 03/06/2022 16:57

No Jubilee celebrations for us but I did spend a rare few hours without children with DH. We went into Guildford and I got a bra fitting at Rigby and Peller. I went down a back size and up 3 cup sizes, which eliminated the back fat and actually supported me. I nearly fainted when she told me their bras were £82 though!! So I'll shop online.

Really, really struggled to find somewhere low-carb friendly. There's a definite gap in the market for a low-carb cafe. Eventually we found somewhere and I had a goats cheese salad, which was lovely, although it did have a smattering of balsamic vinegar.

bella1426 · 03/06/2022 17:14

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore ah hello there 👋🇮🇪😀

Lougle · 03/06/2022 21:07

B -2 egg omelette made with double cream and mushrooms fried in butter
L - salad with goats cheese, crispy bacon and strawberry, with a balsamic dressing (sparse and not BC but I was out and had rejected eleventybillion eateries already).
D - chicken fajitas but swapped the wrap for lettuce leaves.

Fluids: 3 X 750ml electrolyte water, 375ml plain water, 9 cups of tea.

venusandmars · 03/06/2022 21:31

@Baystard that's not actually much food. If this is going to be an ongoing, long term HEALTHY way of eating then you need to get over the panic about eating too much and putting on weight. You need to find a sustainable way of eating that is really good for you.

You'll probably want a BIG variety of veg, LOADs of healthy fats, nice proteins, (and if it's long term maintenance some ways of including higher carb items once or twice a week - beetroot, lentils, peas, carrots).

UnOeufIsEnough · 03/06/2022 21:31

Brunch: bacon and mushroom omelette with avocado on the side

Dinner: Indian takeaway: tandoori paneer with roasted peppers, butter chicken. Was delicious!

venusandmars · 03/06/2022 21:46

@UnOeufIsEnough i love butter chicken, I've put it on my menu list for next week.

Very subdued jubilee stuff in Scotland (photo 1), but glorious natural sunset to make up for it...

UnOeufIsEnough · 03/06/2022 21:50

@venusandmars amazing! Nothing better than a bunch of kilts Smile

It was particularly good! Didn't even miss the poppadoms/naan/rice. Thankfully DH has hopped on the MN bandwagon so he didn't order anything carby either.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 03/06/2022 22:05

Those sunsets look amazing @venusandmars wow

L: shoogled Brussels sprouts with coconut and ginger pork
S: about 6 nuts and 2 tbsp of Greek yoghurt
D: steak, garlic butter, cauliflower cheese, asparagus and chocolate pot with spoon of cream

Dinner was a 'special' dinner cause MIL visiting and even though all low carb (and yum!) I feel too full as if I ate too much. Even though everything was normal sized portion, I think with all the fat it was too much as its so filling. So I need to be mindful of that. Lying down for a little rest as I type this...

Tomorrow is lunch out, looked at menu already and think I'll have tuna nicoise salad, it doesn't have any potatoes in it. Dinner will be indian takeaway so think I'm going to have lamb kebab and saag paneer. But going to be thinking of portion size tomorrow

Weighed myself this morning and scales have STS and I would like a little dip in the right direction so have to KOKO

venusandmars · 03/06/2022 22:08

@UnOeufIsEnough the classic Scottish joke:
Q: What's worn under the kilt?
A: Nothing's worn, it's all in perfect working order

UnOeufIsEnough · 03/06/2022 22:16

I'm a born and bred Scot and I've never heard that joke Blush DH is chuckling away 🤣

prettybird · 03/06/2022 23:27

I've heard that one too Grin

In fact, dh often repeats it a little too often

He's put on a little too might weight for his kilt at the moment but there is a bigger problem ..... Shock It's on the under-apron so theoretically could be patched but there are a few small holes on the front too Sad

He blames "my" moths Hmm

APerfectlyGoodName · 04/06/2022 01:19

Really struggling to drink water. That is all. 🙄
