Morning all.

I was going to link, as usual, to the spreadsheet, but it doesn't appear to be working for me this morning Confused. Will have to call on @Baystard to help out!

I was glad to read on the other thread, though, about continuing losses - which is great to hear, especially as we have just finished the dreaded weeks 3 and 4. Hopefully the losses will continue from now on.

This week is likely to offer challenges with the Jubilee weekend, and the inevitable parties (sorry, work meetings) Wink

Like many others, I expect, we're planning on a barbecue - but thankfully barbecue food is probably the most low-carb friendly way to eat at a social gathering. As long as you avoid burger buns or hot dog buns, it's usually all pretty low carb fare - especially when you're making your own salads and marinades etc.

So this week's challenge is to share your favourite barbecue recipes and tips!

Still away on holiday. Have eaten ok and 65k steps in the last 3 days Shock

However, my legs look like jellied cottage cheese (if there is such a thing Hmm). Should I be trying to 'buff' my legs in the shower to improve circulation or will I have to start running again or doing some high impact exercise??

Previously when I've dieted over probably done more exercise (broken foot scuppered it this time early on). I'm also 49 and thing my body is just not springing back so easily Sad

Any thoughts welcome!

Mercedesbenz2022 · 31/05/2022 21:58

SummerSazz · 31/05/2022 22:14

@Mercedesbenz2022 30 day shred is good. Available on utube and I did it for years. It's v good. Although I don't like level 2!

SummerSazz · 31/05/2022 22:22

@Mercedesbenz2022 best out west lol! I'm near Stroud and always good for a MN meet up/dog walk!

comfortablyfrumpy · 31/05/2022 22:26

Well, that's taught me not to weigh myself in the evening...

My new super-duper digital scales arrived this afternoon, so I have just got them out of the box.

Gutted to find they say I am 6lb heavier than my old scales told me yesterday morning.

I tried the old scales and they say 5lb heavier than yesterday morning. I am wearing pj's but not 5 or 6lb worth!

I am now sulking ...

Lougle · 31/05/2022 22:40

@comfortablyfrumpy only weigh in the morning, before food/drink and after a wee. It's the law.

APerfectlyGoodName · 31/05/2022 23:26

I have the 30 day shred DVD too, and I did enjoy it - but I don't think we have a DVD player any more! The You tube version is very edited, I think. I like 'Popsugar' on YouTube - there are lots of options. Wt bearing exercise is so important. I've recently started going to classes but there is loads of free stuf on line.

I don't weigh exactly daily, but regularly. I kind of put an average number in the SoF. I'm a bit thrilled at a low number and miffed at a high one too 😂so I try not to take the daily too much to heart. I'm usually up if I've been slack on water, so it makes me really drink lots.

This BC I've been taking the Zero tabs - just one a day. I missed a few days and felt a bit low. I do about 10hrs of cardio per week, between running, cycling, swimming & exercise classes so I need to replace salts. Thanks for the salt in coffee tip @pinknsparkly I'll try that.

B. Creamy coffee. Baked eggs with spinach & blue cheese.
L. Chicken ceaser - no croutons.
D. Bolognaise with green beans.

2.5l water. .5L herbal tea. 85% chocolate

ditavonteesed · 01/06/2022 06:57

@Mercedesbenz2022 I would say 30 day shred, it's probably on you tube. I have the 📀.
@comfortablyfrumpy never in the afternoon. In the morning post wee pre food and then again post dog walk still pre food. I can be 2 lbs lighter after the dog walk some times.
Anyway weight is stupid and I hate it. Yesterday was a post nights sleep, so I ate 11pm the night before, no breakfast, slept, ate 2 eggs on low carb bread when I got up and then nothing else (this is my normal post nights routine) and this morning my weight is up. It has always been my lowest weight of the week first day post nights.

.... which I shall most definitely be obeying!

Jollyholibobs · 01/06/2022 07:05

No point worrying about your weight in the evening compared to the morning @comfortablyfrumpy you’ll be back to where you expect in the morning. I weigh every day but only ever first thing after a wee and naked and no jewellery. All ballast removed! If I forget and even have a cup of coffee I don’t bother weighing for that day.

Weight still dropping off steadily here. I made the mistake of going to the supermarket when I got off the train after work last night. But I was very hungry. Bought some cheese slices to take the edge off and mindlessly ate the whole packet. Then I skipped dinner because I was too tired and DH was delighted to have a frozen pizza.

Today needs a plan. DS announced last night he’s coming tonight for dinner. I’m booked in at the gym for 6.30 for a PT session. DS doesn’t like peppers and every recipe I think of needs them.

B black coffee
L blue cheese, salad lettuce, tomato, mooli, asparagus and cardinis dressing.
D leeks, mushrooms and Boursin with asparagus, cabbage tagliatelle for me and pasta for DH and DS.

Have a good day everyone.

comfortablyfrumpy · 01/06/2022 08:40

Well, I am still not happy with my new scales. So sneaky and nasty with their digital accuracy. They are weighing me at 4lb more than my old set. That is beyond mean.

Which ones do I believe?

I am slowly reconciling myself with the idea that the new ones might be right- in which case I need to revisit the spreadsheet .... I've still lost a stone, but it means I was even heavier than I thought to start with 😱😱😱

BIWI · 01/06/2022 08:49

But @comfortablyfrumpy the actual number doesn't matter - it's the difference between the original one and where you are now that does! (And no point weighing yourself later in the day as all you're doing is weighing you plus everything you've had to eat/drink)

@Mercedesbenz2022 when I was working I used to make myself scrambled eggs in the microwave, sometimes with a handful of grated cheese added. Or poached eggs. You could also make yourself a sandwich, if you have some low carb bread . (I see it's sold out right now, but should be back in stock soon - or you could buy their rolls instead)

I know @BIWI - but it means things were worse than I had thought, and I am 4lb heavier than I thought :( Bastard scales!!

Yep, definitely no more evening weighs.

Onwards snd downwards :)

BIWI · 01/06/2022 09:25

This is why we also advise about measuring and trying on clothes @comfortablyfrumpy!

I've lost 4" off my waist so far, and working my way gradually into smaller clothes :)
Trousers I bough in emergency for an interview 4 weeks ago and were tight are now very loose!

BIWI · 01/06/2022 10:59

So it's working! No need to be downhearted.

If the scales are having such a negative impact on you, then put them away. Or only weigh once a fortnight/month.

Hey everyone I'm a boomerang bootcamper, I had a great first week with 4lbs off and then hit a date night where I had my first drink in 6 months and it all fell apart. I've had drinks 4 times since then, not loads but the ensuing tiredness and crap sleep messes with my eating patterns so back off the booze and back onto boot camp, have regained those 4 lbs so essentially I'm back to the start 🙈🙈
Still 5 weeks to go to my summer hols so hoping I can still shift a few lbs by sticking to the plan

Todays food

B - boiled egg with butter and coffee with cream
L - tinned mackerel mixed with cream cheese and avocado, celery and red pepper to scoop
D - chicken thighs and salad
S - M & S rollitos

Baystard · 01/06/2022 13:54

@SummerSazz do you think you've just lost the weight too quickly for your legs to have caught up yet? Wildly impressed with the 65k steps 😲

@comfortablyfrumpy if I forget to weigh into after I've showered in the morning, I'm sure the water plumps me up 😆 I agree with @BIWI and the other's, don't let the new scales detract from your achievement and remember that if you KOKO you'll be down where you want to be before you know it.

Assuming it was real cheese rather than processed slices then there's def worse things to have mindlessly eaten @Jollyholibobs and if you didn't get time for an evening meal then it's probably no bad thing that you'll have had a good protein and fat boost from the cheese. My favourite quick lunch on the go at the moment is a large lump of cheese @ditavonteesed (I buy very naice cheese from M&S for this purpose).

A few wonky-hormone days here which have made me ravenously hungry/impossible to fill and whilst by normal standards I've not eaten too badly I've definitely not always been fully BC compliant. Upped my hrt slightly yesterday which I think has helped, and just KOKO-ing as best I can. It will pass and the important thing is that i don't let it derail me completely (as it would have in the past).

B- black coffee
L- fasting
D- home made meatballs with shredded cabbage-etti and tomato and garlic sauce, followed by clotted cream and blueberries.

Yes it's definitely working! I'm just a bit miffed about being 4lb heavier than I thought 😁

I am massively impressed with myself. I had to nip into M&S for something, and picked up a nice carb city pasta salad for my daughter and some sweet treats, and I didn't get anything for me. At all. Honestly, for me to walk past all those yummy biscuits in all their chocolatey gloriousness, that's amazing.

Two eggs and some fatboy mushrooms done in butter for breakfast. Have had a homemade cheesey/seedy 1g carb biscuit for a snack and we'll be having bolognese for dinner. My version will be on veg, rather than the pasta that everyone else will have.

Jollyholibobs · 01/06/2022 17:23

Contemplating my holiday which is only a week away. Extended family (DH’s) last time we did this holiday I found it impossible to eat low carb and it triggered a long difficult period on my return. Decided to plan ahead but this is the menu for the first night . Bearing in mind I don’t eat meat I am at a loss. It’s a part of the country where there just don’t seem to be healthy options. We will have a lot of stress around this holiday due to other family member with health issues so I don’t want to be difficult. But I don’t want to eat this stuff. Best I can see is pick the batter off the fish and ask if I could have veg instead of chips. Any better ideas? It’s a bit depressing to see such an rubbish menu.

Week 5 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp. The second half!
BIWI · 01/06/2022 17:28

Oooh - that's not easy, @Jollyholibobs!

I'd go for the halloumi, but take the batter off. And ask for a burger, no bun - and no fries. Ask for extra salad.

But ...

... if it's going to cause family problems, you may need to just accept that's going to be a carb-heavy meal (day) but do the best you can afterwards.

Tough one Sad

Jollyholibobs · 01/06/2022 17:30

Thanks @BIWI do you mean the plant burger? I don’t eat meat. It’s rubbish isn’t it. Last year the whole week was like this and so expensive to eat rubbish too.

BIWI · 01/06/2022 17:33

Ah yes - sorry was forgetting you're veggie!

How about the mushroom stroganoff - ask for veg instead of rice?
