Morning all.

Here, for its last outing this Bootcamp is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I know the last couple of weeks have been a bit quiet, and apologies for Covid-related absence from me as well, but it looks like this has been a pretty successful Bootcamp, which is great.

I don't know when the next Bootcamp will be, but probably won't be till around May at some point. However, we'll keep this thread going in the interim.

Don't forget to have a good rummage around the other threads in the Bootcamp topic in the interim, especially the recipe threads, as there's lots of useful stuff there.

And thank you to everyone who has posted, helped to support other posters and even those who have just lurked at the back! I genuinely wouldn't have even half the motivation to do this without you. This is a rather lovely little corner of Mumsnet.

Don't be daft! You posted the links late last night, just as I was getting ready to go to bed.

I will read them when I have the time so that I can focus on them.

If I didn't want to read them, then I wouldn't have asked you for the links Hmm

I get it , people hate links to medical papers

Matcha I’m not sure how familiar you are with the Bootcamp boards, but many posters provide links to medical papers, books written by doctors and experts, and all sorts of cited articles.

Many, many posters take the time and effort to read and absorb the information for themselves because it helps with their understanding and progress.

BIWI · 26/03/2022 10:37

What a silly quarrel... unless ... you did read them after all and are avoiding commenting

You sent them at 11.30 last night. I was on my way to bed.

Saturday mornings for me are like this:

  • hour at the gym with a PT
home
  • hour online Chinese class

I now have 30 minutes before I have to catch a train as I'm going out for the day.

So heads up @MatchaTea that I won't even be opening those links till tomorrow.

Hmm

Yet another person attributing their child’s Autism to something mum did ‘wrong’ in pregnancy.

Yawn.

I don’t care what medical papers say, plus a diagnosis of autism isn’t the end of the world.

Moving on.

Bookaholic73 · 26/03/2022 16:10

@BIWI off topic, but I just read your Saturday morning consists of a PT session.
I’ve just started having a PT as well, finding it so helpful!

carbibarbie · 26/03/2022 16:23

Hi everyone, thanks for the heads up. I will definitely read these papers. I've never heard this abs in fact have been having a high fat diet during pregnancy (absolutely eating anything and everything) and then with this boot camp. Either way I hope I haven't done any damage to my toddler or baby. I haven't yet read the posts but will do later. X

carbibarbie · 26/03/2022 18:22

My daughter is now 10 months old and my son is nearly 3. I've been essentially on a high fat diet since forever, now worrying about whether I've damaged them. I've read the articles but can't find any stats on the percentage of increased risk? As in, does a high fat diet give a 5% increased risk of ASD,ADHD etc or 10%/50%/99%, do you know the answer to this? X

BIWI · 26/03/2022 18:37

I'm out right now @carbibarbie so don't have much time to reply. But please, please don't worry.

OP posts:
carbibarbie · 26/03/2022 18:59

Thanks @BIWI of course I'm now obsessing. Wanting to now know whether high fat diets are more likely to cause autism than supposedly formula feeding does.

MatchaTea · 26/03/2022 19:42

@carbibarbie neurodevelopment and organogenesis are extremely complex and multifactorial. Maternal diet is one of many components that can influence the onset of Autism or other neurological disorders. There are of course other factors. Gut microbiome is quite important too as highlighted by the works of Susan Lynch and others pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32972817/ from the journal Cell , it has a paywall so I have unlocked it for you . Full paper here sci-hub.se/10.1016/j.tem.2020.09.001 plenty of literature on the gut-autism connection if you spend some time on pubmed pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov , the medical library. A key paper is this one www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5285286/

The weaning phase is important in the microbiome consolidation as it changes with the introduction of solid food. Whether you give plants (a variety of vegetables, grains, fruits, herbs) or industrial food will favour specific species. Antibiotics are of course a major alteration factor. The microbiota is involved in gene methylation.

In the end, what you eat, at any stage of life, will influence gene expression. The presence or absence of specific nutrients can promote or protect the genome.

This is totally off topic for this weightloss board , so I am going to stop here, and to @Bookaholic73 no, no family member has autism and your comment on the impact of autism on the quality of life demonstrates sheer ignorance.

Good morning all

I’m still on my gentle slope of weight loss so am very happy if not a little bloated around the gut, I’ve been battling on off with costipation the last couple of weeks - any helpful suggestions please ?

MatchaTea - please be polite to people and stop attacking people

BIWI · 27/03/2022 15:43

Shock MatchaTea

Personal attacks are against Talk Guidelines.

I suspect you're not here with the best of intentions. No longer interested in engaging with you.

@Bookaholic73 I really enjoy my PT sessions, and they're definitely worth paying for, as it makes me get off my arse and go to the gym!

@Pisseslikeahorse glad to hear things are going in the right direction for you. For the constipation - do you mean that you're going less often, or is it uncomfortable/painful to go? If the former, that's quite normal. If the latter, then things you could consider would be:

  • more water
  • more fat
  • strong coffee
  • high strength Vit C tablet
  • making sure you're eating plenty of high fibre veg/salad
  • some/more exercise

Pisseslikeahorse · 27/03/2022 17:49

Thanks BIWI, less often and painfulI been feeling blocked up and some lower stomach cramps. will follow the list and see what happens.

BIWI · 27/03/2022 17:50

If all else fails you could try some sugar-free Haribo gummy bears Wink

RagzRebooted · 27/03/2022 21:33

Had an off-plan day today. First proper one since early January, so didn't feel bad about it. DS1 bought me Ferrero rocher for Mother's Day and then looked very upset at the thought that I would not be able to eat them. First time any of my DCs have spent their own money on me, so I ate them in bed with my coffee and enjoyed every single one! We then had a BBQ and I had a couple of buns, but had vodka and soda to drink. Plenty of leftover meat and salad for a nice LC lunch tomorrow.

FinallyHere · 27/03/2022 21:38

@Pisseslikeahorse I feel your pain. My plan for food always takes into account the need to avoid constipation. The things that work for me are

  • all.the.water, currently on 3l a day
  • at least one large portion of 'chrunchy' veg each day, in ascending order of impact raw cabbage/sprouts/spinach or old faithful roast celeriac.
  • a cup of coffee after the main meal of the day
  • knees raised to my chin (sitting or lying)

In extremis, or when travelling, I take some senna pods and have a tea of two or three pods each night and if no joy any day am usually sorted first thing g next morning.

Hope you find what works for you.

BIWI · 27/03/2022 22:40

@carbibarbie are you OK, btw?

Bookaholic73 · 27/03/2022 22:43

Good evening everyone.

I feel like I’ve set myself up really well for the week ahead.
I’ve meal planned some meals that both me and my family can eat (I’ll just add carbs to theirs), prepped breakfast & lunch for the next 2 days, set reminders in my phone to drink more water, and scheduled in my PT and gym sessions.

I get my blood test results back tomorrow, is it called a A1Hbc or something? Not sure, but it’s to check my blood sugar levels.
I wonder what they’ll show?

I’m feeling super positive about this week!

BIWI · 27/03/2022 22:57

Good luck with the tests @Bookaholic73
