BIWI · 14/03/2022 09:16

Morning all.

Here, for its last outing this Bootcamp is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I know the last couple of weeks have been a bit quiet, and apologies for Covid-related absence from me as well, but it looks like this has been a pretty successful Bootcamp, which is great.

I don't know when the next Bootcamp will be, but probably won't be till around May at some point. However, we'll keep this thread going in the interim.

Don't forget to have a good rummage around the other threads in the Bootcamp topic in the interim, especially the recipe threads, as there's lots of useful stuff there.

And thank you to everyone who has posted, helped to support other posters and even those who have just lurked at the back! I genuinely wouldn't have even half the motivation to do this without you. This is a rather lovely little corner of Mumsnet.

@NigellaAwesome very sorry for your loss xx

FrenchBoule · 25/04/2022 10:12

@NigellaAwesome so sorry for your loss 💐

I’m sorry for not writing on this thread for a while but I must admit falling off the wagon and I didn’t want to sabotage your efforts.
The thing is I have 2 chest freezers filled up with food and can’t justify binning it to keep low carbing in current economic climate.
My stash of butternut squash, leek&tattie soup, bag of dumplings and several slices of sourdough bread (amongst the other things) need to be used up as I need to defrost both freezers before the summer.
My weight went slightly up despite pacing myself so proof is in the pudding (no pun intended)
Will cheer you in May on new bootcamp.
Sorry this post is so me,me,me.

I will go back to low carbing but probably light version.

Thank you everybody for your supoort and cracking company, really appreciate it 💐

I've just tried on my strapless red evening dress. Or rather, tried to try on my red evening dress Blush

I have three weeks minus two days to lose enough weight to be able to do up the side zip Shock

Admittedly, I didn't get dh to try to pull it up - but I could tell, by pulling together both sides, that he wouldn't have been able to do so Blush

It's the Rugby Club Awards Dinner/Ball on 14th May. Fingers crossed that I'll have something to wear Shock

Baystard · 25/04/2022 14:17

@prettybird I'm sure you'll be in the dress in no time once you start bootcamp. If you'd like to start early and need a buddy I'm happy to start anytime 😊

prettybird · 25/04/2022 14:20

Thanks @Baystard - I have indeed already started although I still date not get on the scales

Just had 2 eggs (having boiled 6 for snacks) and am off to have some water, water, water Grin

(Low carb) Sausages for supper, with some shoogled brussels.

Baystard · 25/04/2022 14:29

Sounds good @prettybird - I'm also not getting on the scales after a bank holiday splurge last weekend but I'm fasting today, am onto the💧💧💧, and have low-ish carb supper planned - slow roast pork, carrots, sprouts (won't have the spuds). That's not terribly fatty but will follow with no-sugar almond and rhubarb loaf cake (just almonds, rhubarb and egg - and very filling) with 1/2" slice of butter. I need to stock up the fridge with double cream and make and freeze some keto bread before starting properly next week.

SpottyBumPony · 25/04/2022 19:33

I tried to make some ice cream as I had a glut of double cream. It was glorious before I froze it but its a bit grainy (and rock hard) now its frozen, even though I churned it.

Double cream
The creamy bit of tinned coconut milk
Sweetener
Instant coffee

I think maybe I should have whipped the cream more first?

Eggfest update - the scales reported an 6lb loss and my appetite has decreased. I'm not feeling the uncontrollable urge to continue with carbs that I was.

Baystard · 25/04/2022 19:38

@SpottyBumPony Have you tried letting it thaw a bit and giving it another a whip before serving? I love coffee ice cream but it's not normally a good a texture when it comes out of the freezer but I scoff it all anyway

prettybird · 25/04/2022 19:47

I agree: you need to whip it again after it's semi-frozen. You can also try adding an egg (still needs double whipping) which would also be Bootcamp compatible (you need to be ok with raw eggs though). (I do a non BootCamp compatible ice cream this way with a tub of cream, an egg, vanilla essence and a can of condensed milk Shock).

Baystard · 25/04/2022 20:14

A tiny bit of alcohol is helpful too, it stops it getting too hard. Amaretto ice cream is very nice (whip cream and add a measure of amaretto before churning) but also not bootcamp friendly!

SpottyBumPony · 25/04/2022 21:20

I will try whipping it again when I have some next

Hello lovely people, I'm looking for some advise about entertaining. I'm due to host our walking group, maybe as many as twelve people for a 'glass of something' after our walk. It tends to be about an hour, as an alternative to having a drink in a pub afterwards because there are no convenient pubs while my house is actually on the footpath.

Wine/water/coffee/tea/milk/sugar/small biscuits all given and we also include small plates and paper napkins.

I would also to add cheese and sausages, which would both themselves be low carb.

How surprised would you be in that situation for the cheese to be offered as slivers of cheese on a cheese board without the paraphernalia of crackers /butter/knives etc? I can't make up my mind whether it would be low carb heaven or just a bit odd for non low carvers.

Any views?

SummerSazz · 29/04/2022 20:37

@FinallyHere I think it might be a little odd for non low carbers - could you just put some sliced baguette out and people can add cheese or wrap around a sausage? Maybe a bowl of cherry toms and sliced cucumber as well? I'd love to come for a walk, some nosh and wine, please!!!

I have some good news - made it just into the 10's today. Yay!!! 22lbs down since 10 Jan Smile

FinallyHere · 29/04/2022 21:43

Thank you @SummerSazz iI think you really are right. As well as asking here I have endlessly googled 'cheese without crackers' and not really found anything.

DH who eats a lot of crackers claims he would be heart broken to be offered cheese w/out crackers so there we have it.

All sorted then Grin

I still personally prefer bread with cheese Wink

FinallyHere · 29/04/2022 21:52

Ooohhhh bread. Would the baguettes stay fresh enough if I buy them tomorrow for eating Sunday? I'm not used to them staying fresh (happy memories pre low carb of buying fresh every morning on holiday.

Apologies again bootcampers, didn't mean to hijack the thread. I thought if anyone would understand my aim it would be you, here.

SummerSazz · 29/04/2022 21:55

You could buy the part baked ones and pop them in the oven for 10 mins when you get back?

FinallyHere · 29/04/2022 21:56

Good idea @SummerSazz

M&S have low carb seed crackers. Did anyone hear Gyles Brandreth’s low carb poem on Saturday kitchen 😀

FinallyHere · 30/04/2022 19:43

Fraid I didn't hear the low carb poem, shall see if I can find in on BBC Sounds.

M&S have also produced small bags of Parma ham pieces, very low carb and delicious scattered over a salad for crunch.

CrystalTits · 02/05/2022 10:17

@Pleaseandthankyou @FinallyHere Gyles’ poem: is it this one? twitter.com/gylesb1/status/1285128766600220673
