Morning all.

Here, for its last outing this Bootcamp is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I know the last couple of weeks have been a bit quiet, and apologies for Covid-related absence from me as well, but it looks like this has been a pretty successful Bootcamp, which is great.

I don't know when the next Bootcamp will be, but probably won't be till around May at some point. However, we'll keep this thread going in the interim.

Don't forget to have a good rummage around the other threads in the Bootcamp topic in the interim, especially the recipe threads, as there's lots of useful stuff there.

And thank you to everyone who has posted, helped to support other posters and even those who have just lurked at the back! I genuinely wouldn't have even half the motivation to do this without you. This is a rather lovely little corner of Mumsnet.

@venusandmars
We posted at the same time
I know that horrible feeling , but let it motivate you not dishearten you . Enjoy your holiday regardless , 5 weeks in Italy sounds amazing
I have lots of clothes that need at least a stone off to look nice ( ha ha fit ) so that’s is my 1st goal
I bought things in lockdown that were ‘ a bit too tight ‘ and never worn as there was no where to go and I got fatter !
So I have a new wardrobe ( nearly ) to inspire me too

BIWI · 18/04/2022 11:31

Sorry @venusandmars but I couldn't get beyond I'm now on a 5 week holiday in Italy Envy

The bbq has made me sts as last week but happy with that. Going to another bbq today but again will be my meal of the day after a late morning breakfast.

@venusandmars - Italy sounds dreamy. Good to hear you're embracing the tasty/healthy elements. Hopefully the stone will drop off quickly as you won't have actually put on a stone, just a good proportion of water.

🙌 to the 20lb club @NigellaAwesome and fab to have a post holiday plan you know is good for resetting

CrystalTits · 18/04/2022 13:47

Hi all, just checking in after a couple of weeks clinging onto the LC wagon by my fingernails. My strict adherence has slipped a bit and I'm not enjoying that feeling of being slightly out of control. Easter chocolate and salty liquorice has tempted me, although my meal choices have stayed LC - it's just 'treats' sneaking in.

Determined to have a good week back on it. I like the idea of the egg fast although I really hate boiled/chopped eggs - could I just eat well-cooked omelette for 3 days?!

KOKO everyone, and solidarity to those struggling a bit.

pinknsparkly · 18/04/2022 16:14

@MercedesBenz - I was pre diabetic before my pregnancy, and diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Lower carb eating during pregnancy (I had to eat a minimum of 50g per day, they were very strict about that. So it definitely wasn't LOW carb) resulted in normal non-diabetic bloods at 12 weeks after I gave birth. Sadly my one year bloods came back as pre diabetic again, which is why I restarted the low carb WOE more strictly (I had been mindful of my carbs since giving birth but evidently not mindful enough!). But I paid for a private blood test two months after starting low carbing and I had already reversed the pre diabetes Glitterball

@NigellaAwesome - I was wondering how you'd found the egg fast the other day. I actually really like eggs and genuinely think I could do it without too much difficulty (so long as my work life for the time period worked with it). I'm going to keep it in my pocket for emergency use but it's good to know that it's worked well for you.

@venusandmars - have a wonderful holiday. Much like BIWI, I am not at all jealous Grin

@CrystalTits - have a look at www.ibreatheimhungry.com/egg-fast-diet-menu-plan-low-carb-keto/ for some food ideas. You can have some cheese on the egg fast and they have quite a variety of food suggestions. You certainly don't have to live on boiled eggs and I see no reason why you couldn't do omelette for every meal if that's what you'd prefer.

SpottyBumPony · 18/04/2022 16:26

@SummerSazz whats in your Persian Salad?

SummerSazz · 18/04/2022 17:01

@SpottyBumPony it's tomato, red onion and cucumber diced with fresh mint, olive oil and salt and pepper with a squeeze of lemon juice. It's delicious!

MercedesBenz · 18/04/2022 17:24

@pinknsparkly
That is good to know
( that it is doable , getting the blood sugar down ) I have known for ages I have needed to tackle my weight but that pre diabetic blood count has certainly concentrated my mind ,

I have done tre in the past so am on that , eat lunch 1230 and tea ( or dinner dependant where you’re from ) at 1800 , and that’s it .

Good luck to everyone this week
I thought this thread may be quiet but good to see so many posters here still

Ps I’m still scared of Biwi’s big stick

FinallyHere · 18/04/2022 19:27

DH reversed his T2 diabetics using the bootcamp plan. Much to his GP's astonishment , because he (GP) suggested that low carb would do no harm but that he should not expect to reverse T2 through diet alone.

He has been off the medication for years now.

FinallyHere · 18/04/2022 19:33

I'm still lurking around here, tend to fall off the waggon spectacularly. I've been on it since a week before this last bootcamp started (to get the post Christmas sugar withdrawal over with sooner rather than later) and can tell by the fit of clothes (which I can fit in to again) that it's all going well.

We will be away for a few days but I'm not expecting to make any changes to my pattern of eating. Maybe a few glasses of something dry and fizzy watching the boats skim over the water, though given the weather forecast we shall mostly be seeing rain.

If I'm eating well i know I shall feel good and be happy anyway.

Thanks to @BIWI, @StuntNun et al and everyone on this lovely thread. It makes such a difference to this WOE to have this supporting community of people.

Pleaseandthankyou · 19/04/2022 09:32

@venusandmars 5 weeks in Italy sounds wonderful. Are you in a camper van?

SpottyBumPony · 19/04/2022 09:32

4lb on. I knew it would be, it's marathon not a sprint and all that

venusandmars · 19/04/2022 10:33

@Pleaseandthankyou we are indeed. It's dh's retirement dream (I still do some work but self employed so have flexibility). I really enjoy the simple life of living out of the van (it's a VW) - minimal clothes choices, 2 rings to cook on so lots of fresh simple dishes. I remember reading about an Italian village where lots of villagers live healthily over 100 years of age and I'm trying to emulate that while I'm here. This morni f for breakfast I had freshly sliced fennel, tomatoes, mozzarella and olive oil and fresh herbs (picked in the campsite garden).

By contrast though, on Friday we've got lunched booked in a Michelin restaurant. When other diners leave in a taxi to return to their swanky hotels, we'll climb into our campervan in the carpark have a wee lay down and read our books 🤣😂

Pleaseandthankyou · 19/04/2022 11:00

@venusandmars that sounds even more wonderful. Have you prebooked your campsites or just going where the wind takes you. Keep us updated.

stayathomegardener · 19/04/2022 13:10

Ughhh glad Easter is over! Checking in again.

Five weeks in Italy sounds heavenly.

prettybird · 19/04/2022 19:35

@venusandmars

Another one slinking back on. I had a truly dreadful 3 weeks food wise, for no apparent reason. I even had a big Mac, and I don't even like them 🤮

Worst of all combinations, high fat, butter, eggs, cheese, pork belly PLUS carbs PLUS alcohol. I put on a stone in 3 weeks.

You make me feel better (Confused) about coming on to admit almost exactly the same scenario. Blush

No reason, no excuse.

To make matters worse, my mood has declined and I've lost my mojo to do anything. Not sure which is the chicken and which is the egg: stopping eating HFLC worsens my mood or my poor mood discourages me from eating HFLC HmmConfused

And to make matters even worse, I'm off to a wedding on Saturday and having fallen off the wagon means that I can't get into what I was planning on wearing Sad

I'm too feart even to get on the scales Blush

I started an egg fast today to re-set. Fingers crossed that that does at least a bit of the trick Smile

MercedesBenz · 19/04/2022 20:02

@FinallyHere thanks for telling me this … it is motivating to know changing the blood sugar is achievable

SpottyBumPony · 19/04/2022 21:05

Day 1 of EggFest done. I had two Scrambled eggs for breakfast, egg mayonnaise for lunch, two squares of cheese in the afternoon and Buffalo Omelette for dinner.

The Omelette was really good, I'll add the recipe to the normal threads www.ibreatheimhungry.com/egg-fast-recipe-buffalo-omelette-low-carb/print/15836/

NigellaAwesome · 19/04/2022 22:26

Good luck with the egg fasts @SpottyBumPony and @prettybird.

@venusandmars camper-van round Italy for 5 weeks sounds like heaven. We went on honeymoon in a camper van and I have a soft spot for that sort of holiday.

Sorry to hear of lost mojos :(

I've had a good (i.e. bad!) week off, as I had family staying for 3 days, with associated eating/alcohol-related crimes. And then my SIL bought me a box of Hotel Chocolat mini Easter eggs.

So when I did the shopping yesterday I bought myself some foil takeaway containers, and I'm going to make myself a couple of week's worth of meals, so that I'm not tempted to stray again.

Tonight will be a veg and noodle (Bare Naked Noodle) stir-fry, with baked/marinated salmon. I may try @SpottyBumPony's omelette for lunch.

I just wanted to come back and post for some accountability. It’s a whole year (last week) since I started on the April bootcamp in 2021 and another whole year until a big birthday when I might retire (I change my mind almost daily about this).
I’m around two stone lighter and feel much better. BUT the last few weeks have involved a few big events and celebrations so I have eaten, in various quantities, bread, cake, potatoes and cheesecake. Usually I have no problem avoiding these (I don’t even like potatoes or cake much) so I need to stop now.
I need to lose another two stones by this time next year so I need to get a grip.

Thanks all!

BIWI · 20/04/2022 10:10

The next Bootcamp

I'm thinking I'll start the next one at the beginning of May.

What do you all think about the shorter, 8 week format? Does it work better for you than the 10 week one? I have to be honest here and say it is my preference, and I'm able to keep up my enthusiasm for running it when it's shorter, but if people would prefer a 10 week Bootcamp then I'm happy to do that.

OP posts:
BestIsWest · 20/04/2022 10:38

Anything is good for me so I’ll go with whatever is easiest for you BIWI

prettybird · 20/04/2022 11:38

If 8 weeks is easier for you @BIWI , then 8 weeks it is. You're doing this out of the goodness of your heart (regardless of what the trolls on certain other forums might think Wink), so you don't need to do it for longer than you enjoy.

If people want to do it for longer, then there is nothing stopping them doing so, as the final thread continues on and the support comes from all of us, not just you Smile
