Jan 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - the final weigh-in!

BIWI · 14/03/2022 09:16

Morning all.

Here, for its last outing this Bootcamp is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I know the last couple of weeks have been a bit quiet, and apologies for Covid-related absence from me as well, but it looks like this has been a pretty successful Bootcamp, which is great.

I don't know when the next Bootcamp will be, but probably won't be till around May at some point. However, we'll keep this thread going in the interim.

Don't forget to have a good rummage around the other threads in the Bootcamp topic in the interim, especially the recipe threads, as there's lots of useful stuff there.

And thank you to everyone who has posted, helped to support other posters and even those who have just lurked at the back! I genuinely wouldn't have even half the motivation to do this without you. This is a rather lovely little corner of Mumsnet.

Mentally and physically! 14 hour round drive was grim.

pinknsparkly · 12/04/2022 07:52

Good luck with the egg fast @ZiggZagg! After sticking to that for three days, all other low carb food will taste amazing!

And you look fab @SummerSazz. I know what you mean about "not a full 2lb" though, I do exactly the same when actually I should just be pleased to have lost!

@stayathomegardener welcome to the chat and good luck!

I've not weighed myself for a couple of weeks, but have been carrying on this WOE and feel possibly a bit slimmer, or at the least no fatter!

pinknsparkly · 12/04/2022 07:55

@stayathomegardener - somehow I missed your updates on page 12. Sounds like a very eventful and stressful past few weeks/months but I'm glad you've now got her somewhere close by. Fingers crossed she settles in quickly and the reduction in stress on you makes it easier to commit to low carbing

Pleaseandthankyou · 12/04/2022 08:45

The reason I was hoping to lose more than 3lbs this week was that I had put on 7 during a 2 week holiday. I am now 10lbs heavier than I was before Christmas. I had been maintaining well before that so I need to get back there again. Trying to not eat before 12. Starving now. It was the same yesterday but I managed 😀 Have had a cup of tea and topped it up with hot water. I have a busy morning ahead so hopefully that will distract me. Easter weekend will be full of temptation.

ChiefDogsbody · 12/04/2022 09:32

Morning all, back on it and de-lurking after a holiday, during which I was okay and didn't fall off too badly. A couple of slip ups but hey ho.

Then when we got back home I seem to have gone down with lurgy, felt a lot like 'long covid'- not really, but that sort of wiped out feeling I had after I had covid if you see what I mean. So then things went a bit awry. Ah well.

Despite all that I weighed yesterday and have lost a pound, to my astonishment.

So back on it as of Saturday and already I feel a lot better. I think my issue is when DH is allowed to do the grocery shopping, which he is stupendously shit at. He will spend an absolute fortune but will have no 'meals' thought out at all. He buys all the stuff he likes but only the odd bit for anyone else. And he buys all the sugary, stodgy, crappy stuff that doesn't normally make it into the house when I am in charge. The freezer is now filled with crap. So I have now bought all my nice stuff (like, err, vegetables ! FFS) and will slowly work the way through all the shit by feeding it to him. Can you tell I'm cross?!! The really, really annoying thing is he not only needs to lose more weight than me, he actually LIKES eating low carb meals! In fact he cooked a lovely low carb dinner yesterday!

@stayathomegardener That sounds really stressful, hopefully she will settle in quickly. It sounds like it will be a lot easier to manage your Mum in future at least.

NigellaAwesome · 12/04/2022 19:43

@ChiefDogsbody that’s annoying. DH likes eating LC food, but only if I have —assumed the entire mental load including researching, planning, shopping for and— made it.

Anyhow, I am back from my ski holiday. Salopettes fitted, which I was delighted with, and I didn’t even really bother trying to stay on the wagon - I enjoyed every single croissant and dessert. The hotel’s food was out of this world, although I’m still alcohol free!

I started an egg fast today as I know that this is the difficult time for me. Planned off-piste can turn into months and months of not bothering with LC food. I am following the egg fast by I breathe I’m Hungry, as posted by @StuntNun - thank you. The buffalo omelette tonight was amazing. I’ve never done an egg fast before, and can’t imagine ever tiring of eggs, but I’ll revisit that in a couple of days Grin.

Nice to see peeps still keeping on.

stayathomegardener · 12/04/2022 21:49

Good sallopette update!
I don't think I could face the egg challenge despite the current glut.

Still on plan here so feeling far more positive.

stayathomegardener · 12/04/2022 21:52

@ChiefDogsbody thank goodness for clicking favourites and usuals on the Tesco app and DH having no interest is assisting, sounds like a nightmare.

SummerSazz · 13/04/2022 11:13

Well done on the salopettes @NigellaAwesome and getting straight back into it. It's the only way as you say!

Hope you feel better soon @ChiefDogsbody

I've got no DH to disrupt my eating but living without a kitchen has been ok so far. I have a microwave/grill/oven thingummy and a fridge. Ready prepped veg for microwaving with butter and cooked salmon/chicken/eggs plus tuna have been my saviour. And so easy! I might tell the builders not to put a kitchen back in Grin

I'm off camping now and have my menu prepped. Going to Macdonald's with the DC so will have a bunless double cheeseburger. Not my favourite but needs must!

Pleaseandthankyou · 13/04/2022 19:15

@NigellaAwesome don’t put those sallopettes away. Try them on every Monday and they will fit next year!

SpottyBumPony · 15/04/2022 09:09

I need to put my hands off and admit that I'm off the wagon. Chocolate, deserts and treats are sneaking in. I said it aloud this morning and feel better for getting it out there.

I'll make a conscious effort on Tuesday, I won't be diving head first in to easter eggs but we've got a busy weekend ahead so not much time to plan.

NigellaAwesome · 15/04/2022 13:49

@SpottyBumPony you could try an Easter egg fast. I'm on day 4 of mine, broken through the 96kg barrier, and finding it fine.

SummerSazz · 16/04/2022 09:07

@SpottyBumPony a tough time to jump back on the wagon but it IS worth it. You describe sweets and desserts as treats - is there any way you can shift that thinking? Whilst camping friends/kids had Krispy Kreme doughnuts and cake. When I actually looked at it properly they didn't look like treats but highly processed stodgy which lasted 30 seconds on their lips and whoosh, gone. I think Id much rather have a bowl of strawberries and double cream!

So, back from camping and STS which I'm fine with as copious amounts of wine on weds night accompanied by peanuts....

SpottyBumPony · 16/04/2022 17:36

I have stocked up on eggs for a kick restart.

I was being less mindful about eating so will put more effort in to that. I discovered keto chocolate/protein bars. They were like a gateway drug for me

NigellaAwesome · 16/04/2022 21:30

I had the fettuccini Alfredo tonight from I breathe I'm hungry. Oh my goodness! It was divine!

The egg 'noodles' came out more like omelette strips, but it didn't matter. It tasted amazing.

Pleaseandthankyou · 17/04/2022 13:42

Happy Easter everyone.

pinknsparkly · 17/04/2022 18:14

Happy Easter all! Hope your weekends have gone well and not caused too much damage? I've had a little chocolate (including a creme egg) but they were deliberate pre-meditated decision and I wasn't even tempted to fall face first into Easter eggs which the previous sugar monster me would 100% have done! The creme egg wasn't even that good which I found a bit upsetting (though good at helping me stick to low carbing!). My husband bought me a blue cheese Easter "egg" which I'll be trying out tonight Easter Grin

I weighed myself in the middle of last week and had lost just under 1lb in a little under two weeks which is good going for me. I've also bitten the bullet and ordered some new work trousers THREE SIZES SMALLER than the ones I went back to work wearing after maternity leave a little over a year ago. They were looking a bit clown like on me Easter Blush. Next step is to get a couple of pairs of casual trousers/jeans and then pluck up the courage to bin my fat(ter) clothes!

MercedesBenz · 17/04/2022 18:44

Happy Easter
I started this boot camp but didn’t follow through

Sooo after blood results showing pre diabetic bloods I started last Monday . So far I have lost 4.8 lb , which I am delighted about , but had roast dinner wobble today .

SummerSazz · 17/04/2022 22:00

Well done@pinknsparkly - creme eggs are sooooo sickly so a good one to put you off the chocolate face plant!

Sorry to hear your diagnosis @MercedesBenz but low carb can work to reverse it. My sister who used to poo poo my low carving went sugar free (still eats a little rice & potato) and has lost 2 stone and back to normal bloods. Welcome back and I'm still here plodding on so will be with you Smile

Normal weigh in tomorrow and if I can stuck to todays result it will be another 1lb off (20lbs total) 🤞. Ended up having a bbq today - bunless cheeseburger, lamb kofta with tzatziki, chipolata accompanied by Persian salad and coleslaw (and some rose). Was absolutely delicious.

MercedesBenz · 18/04/2022 08:24

@SummerSazz
Thanks for the welcome back , I am a lot more focused , even dp is amazed ! Now I have to do this as it’s about health .
Hoping for the result Your sister got 😊

NigellaAwesome · 18/04/2022 09:52

Hi @MercedesBenz welcome back. This is one of the things I love about BC is that we can all come back whenever is right for our headspace.

Trouser 👖victory @pinknsparkly! Well done!

I am day 7 (transition day) of the egg fast. Actually I really loved doing it. I have lost a further 6 pounds and feel good for it. Like you @SummerSazz that brings me to a total of 20 pounds off this bootcamp 💪💪. I feel good that I was able to relax when away on hols and get back to it, so I think the egg fast may be a blueprint for me to get back on the wagon.

Have a great week peeps!

venusandmars · 18/04/2022 10:32

Another one slinking back on. I had a truly dreadful 3 weeks food wise, for no apparent reason. I even had a big Mac, and I don't even like them 🤮

Worst of all combinations, high fat, butter, eggs, cheese, pork belly PLUS carbs PLUS alcohol. I put on a stone in 3 weeks.

venusandmars · 18/04/2022 10:36

I'm now on a 5 week holiday in Italy. Trying on my holiday clothes was shameful. Everything felt so uncomfortable, and my favourite items have had to stay at home. Favourite shorts wouldn't go over my hips, let alone fasten, and 2 favourite tops were straining over my not normally huge boobs.

MercedesBenz · 18/04/2022 10:36

Thanks @NigellaAwesome

@venusandmars
It’s a blip , koko 😊

venusandmars · 18/04/2022 10:38

A week of Tuscan food (chicken, grilled veg, olive oil, ham, cheese... And some of the bloat has gone.
