Morning all.

Here, for its last outing this Bootcamp is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I know the last couple of weeks have been a bit quiet, and apologies for Covid-related absence from me as well, but it looks like this has been a pretty successful Bootcamp, which is great.

I don't know when the next Bootcamp will be, but probably won't be till around May at some point. However, we'll keep this thread going in the interim.

Don't forget to have a good rummage around the other threads in the Bootcamp topic in the interim, especially the recipe threads, as there's lots of useful stuff there.

And thank you to everyone who has posted, helped to support other posters and even those who have just lurked at the back! I genuinely wouldn't have even half the motivation to do this without you. This is a rather lovely little corner of Mumsnet.

Thanks, SummerSazz

Alcohol has been discussed many times throughout various bootcamps. It is definitely a problem for some of us, which isn’t good for life, or health.

I have some non-alcoholic vodka and soda water ready to go as my “fancy” drinks Wink, and have seen my GP. I don’t know what this is—I don’t want to put anyone off—but I really need to stop alcohol for now and focus on WATER and LCHF eating.

BIWI · 31/03/2022 19:24

I hear you @ShagMeRiggins

A problem for lots of us, I fear Sad

I absolutely agree and alcohol stalls me for a few days so now it's a really conscious trade off to be made. I'm choosing more and more not to and also only when out/in company.

Enjoy your 'vodka' in a nice glass 🧊

ShagMeRiggins · 01/04/2022 11:50

Thanks all. It’s hailing here now!!

Taco bowl last night. Probably just soup tonight. Not much appetite and I’ve been doing far too much lovely cooking!

venusandmars · 01/04/2022 12:27

Had a wonderful few days working in London - such exciting places to eat - Bibi's, Lobster and Burger, Sexy Fish, Wild Honey... But I made some shocking food choices Sad

So back on the straight and narrow:
B - coffee with cream
L - avocado salad
D - ham, leeks, green beans, cauliflower in cheese/cream sauce

BIWI · 01/04/2022 12:53

Did you enoy them though?

OP posts:
venusandmars · 01/04/2022 18:08

@BIWI Every bloody mouthful Grin and some of that was to do with the vibe, the company, the atmosphere. The last time I did this particular work event was 3 years ago and (for me) there's a bit about a re-celebration of contact and life and liveliness.

The lime meringue cocktail at Sexy Fish was like drinking a mini key lime pie.

BUT.... there's a lot of repair work to be done.

BIWI · 01/04/2022 18:09

But you know how to deal with it! Put it behind you and focus on the next few days.

At least you had a good time and you enjoyed it. Nothing worse than falling off the wagon and not enjoying it!

DH has the 'rona, he's tired and feeling breathless. We have a spare room so he's camped out in their and the office while DS and I avoid him.

He didn't fancy dinner tonight so I had eggs fried in cream (watched some YouTube videos first) and roast savoy cabbage. Both delicious individually but I'm not sure they really went well together. The cabbage was sweet and tender, some lemon on it would have worked nicely.

The eggs where very nice, creamy and soft. It's not as weird as it first seems when you think you are just swapping cream for butter.

Baystard · 01/04/2022 21:45

Hello everyone, I've been busy at work and fell off the radar a bit but I've had a few weeks of lower/lowish carbs and managed to maintain my weight. I'm looking forward to the next boot camp and my goal is to limp along maintain until then and then shift another stone.

pinknsparkly · 01/04/2022 23:34

@ShagMeRiggins (for some reason I can't quote your message) - perhaps it's time for me to 'fess up. I hate all things pink and don't like sparkles either..... My username was created in a fit of pique when EVERY SINGLE ONE I tried was already taken. This was happily accepted by the MN bot Confused I did mean to get round to changing it to something slightly more appropriate at some point but actually it now quietly amuses me Grin

While we've now been a 'rona free household for a week, I'm still incredibly run down. I had a few episodes of sweaty shakes and thought I was going to pass out at work today at one point and am incredibly glad we've got to the weekend! Water water water is still not happening for me as I can't stomach it, though I am doing my best to keep my warm fluid intake (mostly hot dilute squash and cups of tea) up.

ditavonteesed · 02/04/2022 08:12

Shuffles in sideways, sorry I fell so far off the wagon I can't even see the wagon in the distance. I've been unwell with some virus or other (not the main one).
Was managing to maintain mainly but weight is starting to creep on at an increasing rate.

I will read and catch up on everyone's news shortly.

So for me it's right back to basics, I am wondering about doing a 3 day egg fast to get back in the zone, has anyone ever done one @StuntNun I feel like you might have.
In better news I have joined the gym, mainly to support dd who wanted to but I'm really enjoying it and thinking about treating myself to a personal trainer.

StuntNun · 02/04/2022 09:10

Yes @ditavonteesed and I have a modified egg fast protocol I'll try and find for you.

StuntNun · 02/04/2022 10:05

The egg fast is based on a protocol designed for Jimmy Moore to enable him to lose weight while controlling his diabetes. I have modified the original protocol, particularly the advice to eat an egg within an hour of waking. The egg fast is useful when you need to lose a few pounds quickly, or as a reset when you want to get back into low carb after a period of higher carb intake, for example upon coming back from holiday. It will put you into deep ketosis so be aware of that if you feel a bit odd - you might have extra energy and/or feel jittery. If you suffer from side effects of ketosis such as keto breath or keto itch then the egg fast probably isn't for you.

THE RULES

1. Eat at least six eggs per day
This is not a calorie-restricted diet so eat to fullness.

2. Buy the best quality eggs you can
Free range eggs may contain more omega 3 fats and vitamin D.

3. Eat one tablespoon of butter per egg
Coconut oil, olive oil and mayo may also be used.

4. You may add up to one ounce of cheese per egg if desired
Make sure your cheese is low carb. Use the minimum amount of cheese you can.

5. Drink as much water as you can: at least 2-4 litres MINIMUM
Black or bulletproof coffee, black tea, green tea and herbal tea can be added if required.

6. Add salt and keep taking your usual vitamins (if taken)
Consider extra magnesium and potassium to prevent cramps.
If you suffer from constipation then flaxseed may help.

7. Exercise daily
Even a short walk will help maintain lean muscle mass since this is a low protein diet.

8. Eat three meals a day; if not hungry eat one egg
Your appetite will be reduced but keep eating to preserve lean muscle mass.

9. Follow the egg fast for three days; five days may give better results
You will be sick of eggs by the third day!

10. Transition back to your normal diet
E.g. the day after eat two egg meals and one normal meal (whatever you usually eat), the day after that eat one egg meal and two normal meals. Consider keeping on eating at least two eggs a day to maintain the effects of the fast.

Be aware that this is an extreme diet and may not be suitable for everyone. If you follow this fast and have any issues at all such as feeling unwell then seriously consider stopping the fast immediately. It is also not a good diet to follow for any extended period since it is low in protein and does not contain sufficient vitamins and minerals. If you want to try something less extreme to kick off weight loss or recover from falling off the low carb wagon then check out the Ubercamp on the Bootcamp spreadsheet.

FrenchBoule · 02/04/2022 11:15

Hello everybody 🙂 off to catch up with the thread, looks like I missed some —troll— fun
Not sure about the weight but looking and feeling good(ish)
Had some rice with my curry yesterday but a small amount.Still haven’t touch the mountain of sourdough in the freezer. Can’t bear the thought of binning it so will try to eat through it.

On the different note- I have covid as there was an outbreak in kids school. Not looking for the sympathy, feels like a bog standard cold to me. I’m pissed off though as I had fecking covid over Christmas and Hogmanay!

ditavonteesed · 02/04/2022 11:18

Thanks @StuntNun I started basic with 3 eggs scrambled with butter for breakfast (not within half an hour of waking) I don't want to lose the habit of not eating till I'm hungry in the morning.

I'm interested to see how it pans out, I've been meaning to try this for a while.

NigellaAwesome · 02/04/2022 21:55

@ShagMeRiggins I have given up all alcohol since the New Year - it will be 3 months on Monday. I recognised that I was depending on it in an unhealthy way (lots of work related stress, habit, I liked it, I used it to quench thirst as I am crap with water) and I can't do moderation, pretty much across all areas of my life. So no such thing as the odd glass of wine for me. I bought The Sober Diaries on Kindle and it really resonated. I also listened to Janey Lee Grace who has a podcast which I enjoyed. Good luck with it. I haven't really missed it - perhaps once or twice I have thought I would have liked a drink, but that's it. It's my birthday next week, and this will be the first time since I was 15 18 that I haven't celebrated with booze.

Talking of birthdays, I am off skiing tomorrow to celebrate my missed 50th birthday celebration which was stymied due to the first lockdown. And my salopettes fit!!!! I haven't taken pictures, but I am quite surprised as I haven't been particularly bootcamp friendly lately. Nothing massively off piste (see what I did?) but I have developed a bit of a reliance on chocolate nuts.

@Stuntnun the egg fast looks good. It's something I may try once I get back from my hols.

Flowers to those who are mid Covid or just getting over it.

ditavonteesed · 03/04/2022 06:53

Blimey I almost wish I hadn't tried to catch up on the thread. We do seem to attract a lot of unwanted advice on here don't we?
For those giving up alcohol, I did about 3 or 4 years ago. I found I was drinking for the wrong reasons and getting very nasty beer fear. I bought myself a fabulous tea pot which only came out in the evening so it became a ritual that I would have my fancy tea pot when I sat down to relax. I do drink occasionally now but like a glass of wine every couple of months.

I wish I could reset the food urges so easily, it seems I fall straight back into carb land. Daily weighing is the only thing that halts me in my tracks.
Yesterdays food.
Scrambled eggs
Omelette
Fried eggs
Snack - a boiled egg.
Chuffin eck that's a lot of eggs. Yesterdays weight 164 lb, this morning 162lbs.

@NigellaAwesome wow enjoy the skiing.

pinknsparkly · 03/04/2022 07:07

@NigellaAwesome - enjoy the skiing and belated birthday celebrations! I was thinking about you and your salopettes the other day (at least I assume you were the poster who was trying them on weeks ago?!).

An egg fast sounds dramatic but I can also see it making the process of getting low carb (re)adapted pretty speedy without having to think too hard about what to eat! I had a quick google out of interest and there are some interesting food options on this page @ditavonteesed that may or may not interest you. The Alfredo is what caught my eye! www.ibreatheimhungry.com/egg-fast-diet-menu-plan-low-carb-keto/

Rayna37 · 03/04/2022 08:31

^Strolls back in after falling off the thread in December ...
^
Well I got through Christmas OK and while I have been eating my staple LCHF meals (long term low carber) there have been huge portions and with lots of additional things I shouldn't have! I'm six weeks out from a long awaited beach holiday and back at the weight I started the October bootcamp- about half a stone over an OK weight for me and 10lbs from target. Every week I say I'm getting serious but just...don't. So here I am.

Really enjoyed catching up on this thread.

ditavonteesed · 03/04/2022 08:40

@pinknsparkly thanks I had read the blog but not really paid any attention to the recipes, they actually look quite interesting. Thinking the crepes. Don't think I would be able to manage more than 3 days. I don't normally do making Recipes I am more of a basics person, but I could get very bored if eggs I feel.

Feeling good this morning. Also I did a keto stick and it was very pink. (I know, I know but it's quite satisfying) also can can feel my stomach doing the weird dizzy thing that it always does when the weight is coming off. Does anyone else get that feeling? I love it.

FrenchBoule · 03/04/2022 10:42

Ok so caught up with the thread and I don’t really know what to say. I have 2DS’s, DS1 in NT,DS2 has ASD. Diet? Fairly normal except I went to heifer size in first pregnancy so went LC diet while bf DS1.

I’m Polish so eat all kind of weird shit like sauerkraut and the other things people find strange.

Both pregnancies were planned so ate wisely. My weight balooned in first pregnancy because I developed cravings for Snickers towards the end.
I can’t see the reason why DS2 has ASD- I must have eaten too much mackerel, sardines and nuts.

Anyway, back to weight loss

I know what caused my weight gain in different stages of life. Now I have a problem with evening wine twice a week and some —lots of—carby snacks to accompany that so I can join the club with @ShagMeRiggins . A bottle of wine or a bottle and a half a week is/was my habit. Nothing better than 2 large glasses of Chardonnay and a bag of Doritos or pizza.
My bread consumption was also excessive- sourdough only but it’s lush.
Being Polish means that potatoes are consumed every day- another reason.

I haven’t touched bread since we started this bootcamp. I pinched a chip or 2 from kids plates but that’s it. I also reduced my drinking. I had a couple of slip ups but mostly managed to stick to the rules. I failed at the beginning with my water intake, still not great with it.

It’s hard to break the habits. Some of them are so ingrained that it’s like stopping smoking “just one”. But then I know that this “just one” will never be the last one.

@pinknsparkly have you ever tried to namechange? I understand your frustration with the username 🙂 not into pink or sparkly things either. That’s crap you’re feeling so bad. This corona thing is a bastard.

@ditavonteesed you’ll find the wagon and climb back

@Baystard I might wave to you in next bootcamp- still have a few kgs to shift. I don’t know why but I feel that my weight loss is in fragile teritory.

@NigellaAwesome enjoy the skiing

I found keto kitchen book cheaply on ebay so waiting for it to arrive 🙂🎉

Keep On Losing 🙂

Off to munch something

Pisseslikeahorse · 03/04/2022 20:00

I'm knackered 200 mile round trip for a posh pub lunch with the MIL, not to bad but I did eat a Yorkshire pudding and bit of toast.
I'm going to creep slowly towards next Thursday then I'm off plan for a week or so, off to training camp in Skegness the home of the carb and social drinking.

Then I will 'cool hand Luke' my way back on (Thanks to @Stuntnun for the egg fast)

The drinking thing is a killer for me as well, over lockdown I became a bit of a git, as soon as I was back from work or picking up the kids the wine / beer was open and I would end the night with a spirit. Happily I can say this way of eating really helps, had a couple off glasses in the last few months and been happy with just that.

SpottyBumPony · 03/04/2022 20:22

I have a work lunch here on Thursday. I'm thinking maybe Shakshuka or Smokey Wonkey (Hmm) Aubergine with a side of Green Beans. What do you think?

ditavonteesed · 04/04/2022 07:09

@SpottyBumPony I bet the house breakfast would be ok without the bread obviously. Looks like the sort of place to have good sausages.

Also creamy mushrooms without the bread.
@Pisseslikeahorse wow that's quite the trip for lunch, hope you enjoyed it. I haven't been to skeggy since I was a teen, brings back some very strange memories.
@FrenchBoule I decided to ignore all that, I can't remember what I ate when I was pregnant but I believe dd has asd because she is genetically predisposed to it and some things happened that triggered it (very complicated birth), also I don't really care why it doesn't make any difference. Without asd she would be a completely different person and I'm rather fond of the person she is. Anyway I'm sure your not but if your even giving what was said any head space please don't.

Another pound and a half down this morning and back to what I said is the top of my maintenance range so I'm feeling pretty good, yesterday wasn't hard at all and I wasn't hungry. For me it's very much about breaking habits, they seem very quick to be made and very difficult to break. I have actually decided I would like my maintenance range to be half a stone less now so going to work on that. 1 more day of egg fast I don't know how anyone could do 5 days I enjoy eggs and would worry it would put me off them forever.
