General Low Carb Bootcamp Chat

Although I generally keep a chat thread going at the end of each Bootcamp, I think it would be better to have an ongoing chat thread that isn't linked to a specific Bootcamp.

So here it is. A sparkly new thread, for all things low carb and Bootcamp chat. As well as anything else you'd like to chat about!

Feel free to chat about anything you like here.

You all sound like you’re doing really well, I have consciously started drinking more water and eating less junk but am not low carb yet as I can’t go shopping until Friday and don’t have a lot in.
I’ve noticed a huge difference in the appearance of my skin over Xmas from all the junk, dark circles had disappeared with last bootcamp but back with a vengeance right now!

When will the next bootcamp officially start?

Prinnny · 04/01/2022 11:06

I started yesterday, need to drop this stone that’s crept on since the summer! I’m trying to remember all the yummy things I used to make before! I had tuna Mayo for lunch and gammon, eggs, spinach n mushrooms for tea yesterday. I’m combining it with 16/8 for maximum effect so no breakfast for me but I rarely have it anyway.

I’m trying a new revile today a butter chicken curry with mini keto naan bread, it’s from ditchthecarbs I find a lot of good meal ideas on there!

prettybird · 04/01/2022 11:16

@AThroneOfLies - it officially starts on 17 January Smile

AThroneOfLies · 04/01/2022 11:50

Thank you @prettybird Smile

UnOeufIsEnough · 04/01/2022 12:03

It was @Runninghorse and @AThroneOfLies. I'd normally fall face first into toast when I'm snotty, but this cleared the sinuses!

It's so easy to rely on carbs...I've realised that I plan my meals around carbs so just need to get out of that mindset!

BestIsWest · 04/01/2022 12:16

Damn! I’m out of sprouts!
Bit gutted but also pleased in a way. I had promised myself a dress from Toast with Christmas money. It arrived this morning and was a perfect fit on the hips but miles too big on the shoulders. I always lose weight from my top half first. It will have to go back but now I have the incentive to lose enough weight from my hips to get into the next size down.

@BestIsWest

Pork loin chops for tea with mashed swede and broccoli. I did a sauce but they were terribly dry and not very nice. None of us are pork fans so I don’t buy it often and hence don’t cook it very well.
Do you have a pressure cooker? Pork cooked in one is a revelation.
BestIsWest · 04/01/2022 13:33

No I don’t have one @ShagMeRiggins. I confess Childhood memories of DMs pressure cooker hissing madly have terrified me! I have a slow cooker though…

ShagMeRiggins · 04/01/2022 14:22

I haven’t tried pork loin or chops in a slow cooker—my fear is they’ll end up falling apart the way pork belly does when I’m making pulled pork.

He pressure cooker is utterly brilliant for meat (and loads of veg, actually—people really underutilise the things, I find).

Especially meat that people often find dry. I make a beautiful lamb shank in port wine and garlic sauce, as well as a goulash with the cheapest beef that ends up melt in your mouth.

None of which matters to you, I suppose, as you don’t have a pressure cooker. Grin

Maybe we should restart posting our food in preparation for the next Bootcamp.

B: none as intermittent fasting but lots of water, two mint teas, and one decaf green tea.
L: three rashers of back bacon and two fried eggs plus a slice of Schneider Brot Protein Bread with lashings of butter. Homemade kefir to drink and a piece of cheddar for "dessert."
D: will be two quarter pounder burgers topped with streaky bacon and cheese accompanied by a salad of lettuce, a few baby plum tomatoes, cucumber, radish, spring onion, olives and pepper dressed with homemade vinaigrette. Pints and pints of water!

A bit heavy on the cheese and bacon today - I didn't plan that very well!

Prinnny · 04/01/2022 15:00

Good idea!

I’ve had
L - butter chicken and fake vegi rice
T - cottage pie with cauli mash topping and broccoli cheese

Also had a cheese string, a 10kl jelly and some pistasio nuts. I’m keeping under 20g carbs.

Tomorrow will be Greek salad for lunch and haddock mornay with buttered greens. Same snacks and I may even make some coconut macaroons that come in a 0.5g of carbs each…life saver when I was losing the baby weight!

UnOeufIsEnough · 04/01/2022 15:10

B: eggs scrambled in butter, avocado
L: leftover chicken broth
D: beef, mushroom and swede stew

BIWI · 04/01/2022 15:11

Remember that Bootcamp doesn't involve counting carbs though @Prinny! And coconut macaroons would obviously not be allowed either

@BIWI yeah I’m not doing boot camp as a old hand at low carbing I’ve found what works for me! Just like to see what others are eating for inspiration and the other low carb chats don’t get much traffic Smile

cheeseisthebest · 04/01/2022 15:18

Hi everyone. Definitely getting back on the low carb wagon and back to bootcamp.

Any advice about what I can do for my low iron and b12 levels. I take tablets/spray already but recently blood tests showed very low levels and I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. Struggling to get to sleep each night too which isn't normally a problem for me.

venusandmars · 04/01/2022 15:21

I went for a walk to the shops this morning with plans for a big brunch when I got back. Then a friend called to say she was in the area with her dog, so it was a hasty bowl of chicken and leek soup and a lump of cheese before I went out - again.

19,000 steps done and I'm enjoying an indulgent snack of chicken-skin crisps - yummy!

Chicken, leek, ham and mushroom pie for dinner, with some red cabbage and spinach.

@BestIsWest I'm the same with pressure cookers, I have horrid memories of my mum making me conquer my fears and put the knob on the hissing pot. When she took the pressure off, I retreated to my bedroom with my hands over my ears. Mybe 50 years later they are easier to use?

BIWI · 04/01/2022 15:23

I can't remember - but you're not a vegetarian are you, @cheeseisthebest? If not, then the best way to get more iron/B12 is through eating plenty of meat, especially beef, liver and chicken. Fish and shellfish too, such as trout, salmon, tuna fish, and clams, and also eggs.

cheeseisthebest · 04/01/2022 15:30

No I'm not veggie but husband is vegan

cheeseisthebest · 04/01/2022 15:31

Love all those !!

ToddlingForwards · 04/01/2022 15:52

Ooh, I have a pressure cooker that I’ve never actually used and a freezer full of pork that needs cooking! Time to get experimenting I think.

BestIsWest · 04/01/2022 16:00

L - Scrambled eggs with a few tomatoes and some cambozola
D - will be chicken and peppers and various other veg traybake

MercedesBenz · 04/01/2022 16:03

And flgv for tonight
Using this thread to remind myself of all the lovely things you all cook x

MercedesBenz · 04/01/2022 16:03

Fillet !

Prinnny · 04/01/2022 16:38

Pressure cooker is great for joints of ham and pulled pork! Did a lovely joint of ham that would normally be 8hrs in the slow cooker in 50mins, melt in the mouth!
