Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh in (but ongoing chat thread)

Morning all!

Another wet and dreary day. What happened to summer?!

Anyway, for its final outing, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

It's not the end, of course - and I know many of you are keen to keep going until whenever the next Bootcamp starts. So post here for all the usual chat, banter, recipes, etc.

When does the next boot camp start Smile

BIWI · 15/07/2021 16:53

No idea I'm afraid!

Probably not till around October, in the run up to Christmas.

But you're welcome to post on this thread - if you check out the spreadsheet in my OP you'll find a tab with the rules - you could always start anyway? Just ask any questions you have on here Smile

Thanks! Think me and my partner are going to start on Monday, I have done it before around 5 years ago and had very good results!

Bryonyshcmyony · 15/07/2021 19:04

so today
2 x cheese and almond muffins with butter
chicken, broccoli, egg, spinach, cauli stir fry
feta stuffed peppers

had a small handful of almonds and a marmite cheese

lots of water today

KateF · 15/07/2021 20:24

Oooh marmite cheese, need to find that!

B low carb sausages and egg
L chicken mayo salad
D tomato, mushroom and aubergine creamy pasta sauce over courgette ribbons cooked in butter. Parmesan on top.
3 cups of tea and lots of water

Is it okay to use the pastes and spice mixes from Simply Cook? The recipes are easy enough to tweak.

BestIsWest · 15/07/2021 20:47

I saw the Marmite cheese somewhere this week, almost bought it for DS who loves Marmite so much that he gets a jar of the XO in his Christmas stocking.

I am halfway through Why We Eat Too Much. Very interesting reading.

Bryonyshcmyony · 15/07/2021 22:23

So dd loved the muffins and dh said the stuffed peppers were one of the nicest things I'd made for him for ages. I'll have the whole family low carb at this rate!

Bryonyshcmyony · 15/07/2021 22:24

The Marmite cheese is divine.

Even more amazing is the Marmite Hummus, but luckily that isn't allowed because last time I bought it I ate the whole pot

venusandmars · 16/07/2021 10:44

I haven't had marmite since I was about 8 years old and my friends Mum put it on toast for us. I thought it was vile. But my tastes have changed in 50 years so I though I might give it another go. So far though, the jar is still sitting unopened and I haven't plucked up enough courage...

Dinner last night was a deliberate way-off bootcamp meal with lots of carbs. It was delicious, and worth it to celebrate dc being home, but this morning Oh My Guts!! I'd forgotten the impact of wheat - the noise, the gurgling, the multiple visits to the bathroom tmi

So back on it today:
B - avocado
L - green soup
D - salmon with Mediterranean veg (courgette, tomato, aubergine, shallot)

BestIsWest · 16/07/2021 11:05

Marmite hummus? Omg, DS would be in heaven. I love the stuff myself,it does divide people though.

@KateF - check the carb counts (if there are any). If it's around 4-5g carbs per 100g they're probably OK.

If there aren't any carb counts, I'd be careful, as many pastes and spice mixes can have sugar in them, so could be quite carby.

They might have their carb counts on their website as well

Please try the marmite and let us know @venusandmars

We're camping soon so I've screenshot your ideas, thanks @FusionChefGeoff

Thanks for sharing your amended recipe @StuntNun I've been meaning to ask

How're you getting on @ouchmyfeet ?

I'm currently bloated from eating too much bread, my arch nemesis

BIWI · 16/07/2021 15:13

I love Marmite. Don't ever believe anyone who tells you that Vegemite is just the same/as good. It's nowhere near as lovely!

Oneborneverydecade · 16/07/2021 15:51

I love it too!

ShagMeRiggins · 16/07/2021 16:32

Oooh marmite cheese, need to find that!

I love marmite. I love cheese. I didn’t love marmite cheese at all, but am happy for your flavour blasts, Bryony.

For those reluctant to try marmite again, I’ll recommend it with cream cheese, especially on a SLC roll.

Not often. Not daily. Perhaps weekly if your Bootcamp is going well. But it’s a nice neutralising flavour so you get the best of both worlds.

Oneborneverydecade · 16/07/2021 17:13

@MrsKoala

Yes, and I expect Legoland to be pretty hot considering it’s one of the levels of Hell.
Will you get Q-Bots? They're the only thing that makes it bearable imo

I used to work for a major supermarket though and once per year staff had exclusive access after, say 4pm, that was great.

Oneborneverydecade · 16/07/2021 18:36

I'm going out for tea! Bills. I'm planning on having steak minus the chips. Really looking forward to catching up with bff - we've known each other 32 years!

ShagMeRiggins · 16/07/2021 18:38

Sounds lovely. Enjoy.

BIWI · 16/07/2021 18:42

That sounds amazing! It's such a beautiful day too (well at least it is here!). Have a great time.

Can anyone help me with soup ideas as I very rarely make soup. I have a large amount of game stock, some cooked pheasant and two bundles of asparagus. How do I combine these into a delicious soup? Preferably without cream in as I'm dairy intolerant.

BIWI · 16/07/2021 19:15

In a large pan, sautée some chopped shallots, or onions if you haven't got shallots, in butter and olive oil. Add the asparagus (chopped) and cook over a medium to high heat. Season with salt and black pepper. Add any herbs that you have/like. When the veg is softened and slightly browned, add the pheasant (also chopped up), and after a couple of minutes, then add the stock.

Bring to the boil and then simmer for around 20 minutes or so.

You can have it as it is or, if you prefer, use a hand blender to blend it to a finer consistency.

OP posts:
BIWI · 16/07/2021 19:16

That's what I would do, anyway!

OP posts:
BIWI · 16/07/2021 19:16

If you wanted, you could also add some curry spices when you're frying the veg - so some ground cumin and coriander, with a bit of chilli and turmeric.

StuntNun · 16/07/2021 19:28

Thanks BIWI. I'm slightly worried the stick blender would end up spraying me with boiling hot soup though!

BIWI · 16/07/2021 19:39
Grin

Keep it at the bottom of the pan rather than at the surface of the liquid. You can also make it easier by tilting the pan, which ensures that the blades are well under the surface
