Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh in (but ongoing chat thread)

Morning all!

Another wet and dreary day. What happened to summer?!

Anyway, for its final outing, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

It's not the end, of course - and I know many of you are keen to keep going until whenever the next Bootcamp starts. So post here for all the usual chat, banter, recipes, etc.

Thanks BIWI you were right the carb counts are ridiculous. Shame as the recipes have been lovely.

Today's food
B LC sausages and egg
L yesterday's pasta sauce and green beans and broccoli
D will be pork belly and salad. Maybe some yogurt and berries
I worked 7-7 again, just too tired to cook much. It's been a lovely day though. Nursery is on a farm so we've been out and about most of the day learning how to care for the bunny we'll be getting in a couple of weeks!

MrsKoala · 16/07/2021 19:54

I’d go along the lines of a royal game soup replacing the carrot and parsnip with swede and celeriac and adding the asparagus at the end, or serving griddled and buttered alongside to dip in (or as a starter with a poached duck egg and Hollandaise).

MrsKoala · 16/07/2021 19:56

Id keep the herbs to bay, parsley, thyme and simmer with peppercorns and maybe juniper berries. Very autumnal but delicious anytime I reckon.

StuntNun · 16/07/2021 21:15

Sounds fancy MrsKoala especially the port added in at the end.

BIWI · 16/07/2021 21:25

Actually @StuntNun, if you have some celeriac, that can also be added and it will add a creamy texture - almost as if you'd added cream. Pret used to do a 'No Cream of Chicken' soup that was made that way.

BIWI · 16/07/2021 21:27

here's their recipe

I'm sure you can adapt it to the ingredients you have. And I'd leave out the porridge oats.

Ooh thanks BIWI I think I have some frozen celeriac from Waitrose.

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/07/2021 09:41

Sorry just popping in to say the scales flashed at 12.6 this morning before settling at 12.7. Am very happy. I have something super stressful to do today can't wait until its done.

Oneborneverydecade · 17/07/2021 09:56

@KateF 12 hours looking after multiple toddlers? I'd be too tired to climb the stairs ha. My DD goes to a nursery on a farm, she was bottle feeding lambs this week. I hope you get some r&r this weekend

MrsKoala · 17/07/2021 10:37

You can get frozen celeriac?!! Shock

StuntNun · 17/07/2021 10:56

MrsKoala frozen celeriac is really cheap in Waitrose. It's in very small dice so it's great for mash or for adding to a Spanish omelette instead of potato. It's also good for adding to dishes that are slow cooked for thickening up the sauce, as is swede.

MrsKoala · 17/07/2021 12:24

Wow. You may have just changed my life! Is this something everyone seems to know apart from me? (There appears to many of these things)

fantastaballs · 17/07/2021 13:35

After me posting last week about how I've lost two stone my weight loss has totally stalled. I'm not shocked as One day was my daughters birthday and I fell into a huge slice of cake and a bottle of vodka. Yesterday was sunny, lovely bbq weather and time for a beer.... I'm no heavier but neither have I lost anything.

I'm going on holiday on the 19th august so I am going to set myself a goal. Currently 98-99kg (down from 110kg) and I'd like to have reached 95k by the time I'm packing my case.

I have found that I am not really eating full meals but having things like peperami, a grapefruit, coffe and cream for breakfast. A protein shake with MCT oil for lunch. Pork scratching, kind nut bars , the odd salad. But I know I need to increase the variety of foods. So does anybody have any suggestions for low carb ready meals? Easy ready made snack ideas?

BestIsWest · 17/07/2021 14:15

Contemplating 100 mile round trip to the nearest Waitrose.
Honestly, just come back from Tesco and there were so many empty shelves.
It’s too hot to eat much other than salad at the moment.

BIWI · 17/07/2021 14:21

Yes there was a thread on here yesterday about so much stuff being out of stock.

Mostly because of Covid - lack of drivers and people working in the distribution chain, but no doubt also an effect of Brexit.

Time to start stocking those cupboards and freezers I think! And don't forget the gin

Are you eating better at dinner time or are all three meals like this? Is work making it difficult for you to plan healthier meals? We're supposed to avoid snacking but if I'm genuinely hungry between meals I snack on cubed cheese, cherry tomatoes and cucumber dipped in mayo and butchers ham. I know other people enjoy boiled eggs and the cheese muffins mentioned upthread. M&S do some great deli bits like rollitos.

BC advice is also to avoid processed food. I think that we're possible you need to go back to basics and plan to eat protein with vegetables with added fat e.g. chicken mayo salad with lots of salad and oily dressing or steak, buttered broccoli and celeriac chips. Easier said than done though possibly if you're working shifts or getting in late etc

Oneborneverydecade · 17/07/2021 16:54

Where possible damnit

venusandmars · 17/07/2021 17:22

@fantastaballs are you not eating meals because of the heat? or work / family commitments? or because you don't really like cooking?

I think Kind Nut Bars have a both honey and glucose syrup and are between 13g and 30g carbs per 100g!! Grapefruit is also not on the bootcamp list. Protein shake with mct oil might be OK very, very, very occasionally but again is not a boot camp staple.

You need more veg, that's the way to make this way of eating healthy and sustainable over the long term.

StuntNun · 17/07/2021 17:25

My pheasant and asparagus soup was lovely. DH turned up with some cream so I chucked that in as well. It was a bit thin because we had run out of celeriac but still very tasty. We had it with toasted cheese muffins on the side. Nom!

fantastaballs · 17/07/2021 17:47

I'm so sorry, I didn't raise that bootcamp was a specific type of low carbing.... there are so many it's confusing!

Tbh I'm starting to realise just how many issues I have surrounding food. I really struggle to eat a full meal as I'm just not hungry at all. And if I eat anything carby like bread or pasta I just can't control myself and eat myself silly. It's almost like being so restrictive with my diet at the moment is what means I succeed at it.

Anyways, I'll leave this thread and I wish you all masses of good luck and determination on racing your goals.

BIWI · 17/07/2021 20:34

You don't have to leave us @fantastaballs! Have a read of Bootcamp rules (which are on the spreadsheet, in my OP) - you may find that this type of low carbing will work for you!

Made Mrs Koala's fish pie this evening. It's absolutely lovely. Had it with broccoli and cauliflower.
B bacon, egg, mushrooms and spinach
L pork belly, mayo and salad

Bryonyshcmyony · 17/07/2021 20:42

Absolutely shit day found me disappearing into the wine and chocolate. Hopefully I'll feel more grounded later in the week.

prettybird · 17/07/2021 21:54

@fantastaballs Don't go straight away. Have a look at the Rules in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and maybe read some of the Week 1 and Week 2 (and maybe subsequent weeks) when a lot of questions are asked and answered and people share their experiences.

Most Many of us are real foodies and find that this Way of Eating is compatible with both enjoying good food with a bit of imagination and resourcefulness as well as the recipe threads for inspiration and losing weight (and later, maintaining when we reach our goals) Smile

Some of us have historical challenges with their relationship with food but have found that Boot Camp - both the Way of Eating (which is about real food and not depriving yourself and feeling hungry) and the support of other Boot Campers - has helped develop a healthier relationship, both with themselves (improved mood and basic health) and with food.

BIWI · 17/07/2021 21:54

Sorry to hear that @Bryonyshcmyony. Just pick yourself up, get rid of any temptations, and jump back on the wagon!

What happened? Can we help you with anything?
