Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

I still find it utterly bonkers that you kept on weighing in 2020 @venusandmars. I mean, all power to you, but I'd have stopped in about April Blush

While we're pulling ourselves up my the bootstraps, here's today's menu:

  • 3 teas with unsweetened soya milk;
  • 3.5 litres of water (I need at least 2.5 according to the calcs);
  • egg salad as mentioned earlier;
  • one bottle of Merlot.

I'll eat nothing further now because I know that's how to counterbalance the wine.

Need to snap out of it tomorrow.

See, we're all completely dysfunctional Grin

Makegoodchoices · 26/04/2021 19:57

@Moonswimmer I get it every time I go low carb. But for me it will go away when I lose another half stone so I’ll stick with the gaviscon for now.

D: - a carrot

@Fusionchefgeoff Flowers for you. I can sympathise with a lot of what you said. Funnily enough, I made S'mores for the first time this weekend for the kids and had to make the biscuits as there's nothing like that available in the shops here. The temptation of having them lying around was too much and I succumbed. So cross with myself as I have tried so hard this week. My weight loss has slowed hugely the last few weeks. If I think about it, it's since Easter when I allowed myself chocolate and Hot Cross Buns and I haven't really got properly back on track since. I'm definitely going to join you on a two-week strict bootcamp. (PS never replied to you about our shared nickname - how funny, it's the only nickname I've ever had too, and related to my surname)

@BIWI can you help me with carb numbers for beans please? I think of French beans and green beans as being the same thing but they are listed as two different numbers? PS Haven't been tempted by baguette or croissant once since I started thinking of them as basically sugar and 'the enemy' so thank you.

@PseudoBadger re. your daughter's diagnosis, you have my sympathies. We just had an ADHD diagnosis for my youngest last week, to go with his brother's ADHD diagnosis from two years ago. The mental load of dealing with the appointments and reports and follow ups and various therapies is such a burden and is in part why I have gained weight over the last few years. Well done on your brilliant loss this week.

@ElectricFirecracker I've realised carb creep has happened here too with sauces using tinned tomatoes and milk in tea particularly. In fact I think I'm eating a bit too much dairy in total. I was using unsweetened almond milk but went off it a bit. Must try again.

@Bestbees I'll definitely join you on the no-snacking challenge!

A very pathetic 0.2lbs off for me this week. Ho hum. I seem to be stalling a bit recently and my resolve is wavering. It has however been a mini lockdown here in France and a few days of homeschooling, which is hard work in my second language. No excuse though, I still have 9kg left that I want to shift.

colouringindoors · 26/04/2021 20:05

L scrambled eggs (2) and 2 rashers bacon
D fajitas without the tortilla! chicken, pepper and bit of onion (plus oregano, lime zest and juice) panfried, served with avocado, sour cream and salad leaves. Delicious! 2 squares of 90% lindt for treat 😊

nowlook · 26/04/2021 20:09

Oh, that is brilliant @AthelstaneTheUnready Grin

In fairness, BIWI does say you should be getting getting most of your carbs from veg, right? Was is confit, at least?

@Smorgs I'm really pleased to see you! I knew there was a poster or two living in France, but couldn't quite remember who. Today I was translating (badly) a menu for my French visitors who arrive next week. Apparently, the French for Baked Alaska is Norwegian Omelette? What is that about?!

colouringindoors · 26/04/2021 20:14

Where I am aiming for and will def get to over the next few months. And yes I know it's just into the yellow but it's a huge improvement.

Weird that I was wesring size 14 jeans and be classed as obese. Vanity sizing has a lot to answer for...

colouringindoors · 26/04/2021 20:19

athelstane 😅😅😅

Smorgs · 26/04/2021 20:33

@nowlook Hello! Yes that's confusing, neither Norwegian nor an omelette Confused Are your guests travelling from France or do they live in the UK? I can't wait to be able to travel again, haven't seen my ageing parents for ages now.

@AthelstaneTheUnready that's funny

BIWI · 26/04/2021 20:43

@Smorgs Green bean is a generic name for all the different beans! Not sure why there's a higher count for French beans on the spreadsheet - from what I can see, all green beans are between 3 and 4g carbs per 100g

OK that explains thank you. French beans are my go-to green veg but if I'm being super strict I suppose I should be sticking to those under 3g really

pinkpinkeverywhere · 26/04/2021 20:50

Evening all, I've been trying to catch up on the threads today, got a bit behind this weekend as it was my daughters birthday.
Congrats to everyone on the great losses and to @AthelstaneTheUnready for her inspired dinner - could you add the recipe to the veggie thread please......
I've had a slight loss (0.8lbs) but I'm happy with it as I had a few drinks to celebrate her birthday and after 3 months of this WOE any loss is a step in the right direction.
I've started wearing my size 12 M&S trousers this weekend that I haven't worn for a couple of years and they're not even tight, so I'm really chuffed. After not really feeling like I've lost anything, I am now starting to feel a bit slimmer.

MrsKoala · 26/04/2021 20:52

@Smorgs I’ve just today submitted the forms for ds2 ADD referral, but while I was filling it out it sounded so much more like ASD which his older brother probably has but no one can quite decide. I don’t tend to turn to food when it stresses me out but I do rely heavily on booze. Dd is the next one with her myriad of sensory issues. I just think I must be so defective to have given all of them whatever it is they each have. All different tho, so really really inconvenient to work with on a day to day level.

Decided to abandon the chilli and do bolognese. I had it with the soya bean elastic bands. I really liked them. They were like a cross between angel hair and soba noodles. Would be nice in a ramen or Thai coconut spicy broth or a cold spicy noodle salad or even an Italian style seafood sauce with chilli, tomato, garlic and parsley.

ElasticFirecracker · 26/04/2021 20:58

Today:
B: half avocado & vinaigrette

L: home made broccoli & blue cheese soup

D: chicken soup with leeks and celery. Home made stock. 2 slices cheese.

10% Greek yog.

3 litres water.

Bestbees · 26/04/2021 21:11

@MrsKoala I am sure your children are a delight. I like to think about these different educational diagnosis as demonstrating the broad richness of neurology that human beings need to thrive.

No snacking today and swam a mile. Knackered but pleased!

Moonswimmer · 26/04/2021 21:15

B: creamy coffee
L: cold roast beef and salad
D: avocado, spring onion and chorizo salad.

Almost enough water - I’m getting better!

nowlook · 26/04/2021 21:21

They're coming over here @Smorgs. A business trip. Trouble is, they have to quarantine and so we have to lay on a private chef for them. On a positive note, I've learnt the French for Baked Alaska. Still struggling with "trifle". Closest I can get is diplomate a l'anglaise Confused Grin

ouchmyfeet · 26/04/2021 21:49

Evening all, struggling to keep up with the thread all of last week so going to try to stay on top of it this week.

STS for me and I know why. Too much nibbling and snacking and not on the right stuff. Had a small win this weekend in that I made a chocolate cake for my DS's birthday and managed not to have a slice!

I don't have any sage advice for you @FusionChefGeoff but I really think you should go easy on yourself, it's just one slip up! Doesn't everyone fall off the wagon occasionally? I've not really been in the zone since Easter and struggling to get back to it but I know it will come. Owning it and not making excuses has got to be a big first step to getting there.

Food today:

B Greek yoghurt
L Corned beef with FLGV
T Lamb kebab (weekend bbq leftovers) with salad and homemade coleslaw
No snacks

Made the courgette/feta/mint salad yesterday for the BBQ. Was delicious 😋

venusandmars · 26/04/2021 21:56

@Angliski you're not giving up 'because we're too good company' , but I bet you're also not giving up because this is such a fabulous way of eating..

@colouringindoors that is great. Your heart and lungs and liver and joints will love you for that. More to go, of course, but feel great about what you have achieved.

@nowlook I was living in lala land where I thought my magical thinking would somehow negate the reality. Plus you might notice that I never, ever posted any of those weight gains during 2020. I never posted that graph. Too ashamed. And I didn't post any of the daily food lists where I'd had a couple of eggs and a bottle of wine!

@MrsKoala oh my! nothing 'defective' about you. I remember when it was discovered that I had a bicornuate uterus, my darling mum said that she'd not done a good job of putting me together. I felt so sad that she felt so sad, and in the end everything turned out OK. Each of us just are who we are - physically (4ft8 or 6ft4; age 21 or age 79; weighing 100 pounds or 400 pounds); and emotionally, and mentally and spiritually. We are who we are.
