Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

Well done all! Not weighed myself today as I did it a couple of days ago and had a day where I drank very little so know I have retained water. I had what il refer to as a dodgey day yesterday but I have decided to stick to the hardcore rules as I just don’t trust myself yet.

I have realised that in addition to carb addiction I look to food when I’m stressed at work - I am very frequently stressed at work so in the process of breaking that cycle and so far think I’m doing alright. I’m just worried about the doldrums hitting. That’s when I drop off and I desperately don’t want to.

Keeva2017 · 26/04/2021 14:01

@FusionChefGeoff my Sunday sounds like a little of your Saturday. There are layer upon layer of my food issues that I do not want to pass on to my little girls.

Iv come to terms with the important moment being the day after a day like that. Do I throw in the towel or do I roll my eyes at myself and think right back to work. It sounds so simple but it never feels that way. Massive hugs to you.

FinallyHere · 26/04/2021 14:16

Right back attcha @Jellycatspyjamas

Oh yes @Keeva2017 I turn to food when I'm bored and also when I am not sure about what I am doing, at work or at home, so I'm stressed. And when I just want to treat myself....

Shall post here instead. This thread my fill up pretty quickly. 😆

Afternoon all, sorry I’ve been awol. Been deep cleaning fil’s old flat ready to rent and I’m exhausted.

So sorry to read your sad news @ZiggZagg Flowers

I’ve also put on 4lb overnight @FusionChefGeoff I’ve been 11st11lb every day since Weds and then this morning 12st1lb. Wtf?! I ate well yesterday too. B was chorizo, shallots, mushrooms, green pepper and spinach fried together with 2 fried duck eggs. L leftover foil baked Salmon in butter, lemon and herbs and a red cabbage, white cabbage, shallot, celery and radish slaw with Mayo and olive oil dressing. D pork chops in a mustard and cream sauce with flgv steamed.

But, I’ve lost 2.5 inches on my waist. So I’m not too disappointed. I’m not going to record it today and see if it settles down tomorrow and it’s my period or something.

Was going to do a chilli tonight but just remembered I’ve run out of smoked paprika. So not sure what to do instead.

Love the pics of tulips and fluffy lambs.

I am 44 and 5ft 10in so not in anyone’s gang!

NigellaAwesome · 26/04/2021 14:41

Afternoon all,

Thanks for the welcome back. I am delighted to report that I lost 8 1/2 pounds last week Shock. I still have a fuck load to go to even get back to where I was last November, but I feel in control of my eating (and forgetting to most of the time).

I am also enjoying the keto burst of energy that I had forgotten about. Drawers are being emptied and sorted. I even sorted the cat's food drawer yesterday! Grin She was very confused.

I only managed about half of last week's thread, but just about to catch up on today.

Dinner tonight is going to be a Whole30 recipe - homemade meatballs sliced up in a red pepper and satay type sauce on a bed of courgetti. I have had it before and it is amazing.

Zigg I am really sorry to hear your news. xx

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 26/04/2021 14:43

I must admit I missed quite a bit of last week’s thread, but why are you lot posting age and height? (55 and 5’9” in case I’m missing something good)

Mimosa1 · 26/04/2021 15:10

0.5kg on for me this week but I know why so onwards. Well done to all the losers

ListenLinda · 26/04/2021 15:41

@BIWI and @StuntNun thanks - that’s quite interesting. My mind does wander ha so was wondering if it was a coincidence. But does explain why most people have a big ‘first week loss’ on any diet.

ElasticFirecracker · 26/04/2021 16:06

Carrot in soup.

I normally add sliced carrot to a soup I make, and there may be complaints if I leave it out especially as I am making other changes to the recipe to make it low carb friendly.

Will it be OK if I add some sliced carrot, but just don't eat any myself, or will the carrot carbs leach out into the soup?

conveyancingwoe · 26/04/2021 16:20

@ElasticFirecracker good question that I’d like the answer to.

@NigellaAwesome could you link your whole30 recipe as sounds delicious?

Just went paddleboarding and am exhausted! Had low carb kedgeree approximation at lunch and having taco meat and salad for dinner.

conveyancingwoe · 26/04/2021 16:32

Oh sorry name change fail! Back later!

Bestbees · 26/04/2021 16:49

@BIWI 100% for me it is boredom snacking. Or if I haven't had enough lunch. So with this in mind I am upping my lunches. Will boil eggs ready tonight, thanks for reminding me @StuntNun

@FusionChefGeoff you should see your slip as a good one. There are lessons to be learnt, and you are back here. That's pretty blooming amazing I think!

Having a cup of tea and no snack before I go off for a swim. Planning on turning left over lamb into some thing recommended by someone on a thread, sorry I can't remember who! Frying up dice keek and courgette, add spices and lamb and serve in lettuce.

colouringindoors · 26/04/2021 16:50

BIWI thanks for the links re book and article on IF. I find the appetite side of things very interesting. Mine has reduced significantly now which helps a lot.

For me certainly the first week on bootcamp has a major affect on my mood. I've gone though that first week twice in the last 8 weeks and the effect was the same - very low. Fortunately picked up now Smile.

Like others have mentiined this process does really shine a spotlight on our relationships with food, and for me, alcohol. Stress inclines me to drink more and comfort myself with sugar. I definitely have a tendency to sugar addiction. I find now if I gave a bowl of cereal for breakfast I'm craving, say biscuits within the hour. The later in the day I eat sugar, the better!

ditavonteesed · 26/04/2021 16:52

@FusionChefGeoff I have fallen off the wagon spectacularly a couple of times since I started at new year. And once I'm off I think right I'll have everything I fancy now and get back on it in the morning. Every time I have which kind of surprised me because in the past that would have been it. It might have put me back a week but it hasn't stopped me, I never would have believed I could be where I am now 4 months ago.
I also had a terrible night on saturday (well I didn't I had a lovely night) I was meeting friends late int he afternoon after 3 night shifts and I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. So I went anyway, had a g&t and then was so cold that I was physically shaking, think I was so tired I didn't have the energy to stabilise my temp. My friends pretty much forced me to eat the food they had brought and once I started that was it.
The worst thing about it is how hungry you are the next day, it reminded how much I love this woe, I hate being hungry and fighting it. I did fight it though and I'm back on it now.

Makegoodchoices · 26/04/2021 17:30

@NigellaAwesome - same here, up at 6am, made lunches then had a browse through the pinned recipes, I’d prepped port carnitas and stuck them in the slow cooker before anyone else was up!

@Bestbees Boredom snacking over here too - I was furloughed for ages and I think I had my head in the fridge every half hour! Feeling the freedom from wanting to eat, but my phone scrolling is the replacement! Need to break that next, if only my procrastination took the form of squats or something!

venusandmars · 26/04/2021 18:26

@FinallyHere I get you with the mind wrangling. All year I've been enjoying coffee with double cream and a slurp from the pot on my way back to the fridge Plus, the bigger the mug, the bigger the pour of cream! However, it has now become my 'staple'. I don't think I actually need it anymore. I'm away for a week in our campervan. It's great, but open pots of cream on bumpy single track roads are not good. So I'll be reverting to a single, small black coffee. Might help re-set some habits.

@FusionChefGeoff aww... everything already said by others, but bloody well done on owning up to it. That's a massive step forward, and such a massive weight off your shoulders that I bet your weight bounces down as a consequence!

Can't add it here (but next post from phone will have it) a picture of my disastrous lockdown year during 2020. Overall a big weight gain. Each sudden dip would coincide with a bootcamp effort. I think it would be fair to say that each time, after a couple of weeks I stopped adding to the spreadsheet and my posts would be 'light (lite?) encouragement' rather than open, honest, heartfelt wrangling.

Just chiming in to say that the discussion of binge eating really resonates with me, as does the concealing of it! @FusionChefGeoff that was very brave and you're not alone. I have constantly binge eaten since having my DS and am really ashamed I've got to go back to work soon and show everyone that I've gained back all the weight I lost last year. Blush But onwards and upwards. I really want to get back there.

Congrats to all the losses! Not weighing in until Wednesday but have been very much on track. Have a feeling my weight may be skewed by my attempt to reduce breastfeeding though - I'm cutting out the night feed so I'm only down to bedtime bf and my boobs were very full this morning Blush

B - greek yog
L - bacon, scrambled eggs
D - pesto, tomato and cheese chicken with broccoli cauli and green beans
S - babybel mini

Angliski · 26/04/2021 19:17

@FusionChefGeoff it’s so painful, then binge cycle, I feel you, we’ve most of us been there. A fresh start.

Well I think a 0.5lb off here. It sucks that I am not having nice big losses but I’m like, okay well, if I keep at this, in a years time I might be nearing goal weight at around a 1lb a week without too much struggle. I’m not giving up because you lot are too good company!! Thank you.

B- eggs and butter sauerkraut tablespoon and 1/3 avocado
L- beef mince and rocket salad with cherry tomatoes and a tsp seeds
D- not sure yet, waiting for baby to nod.

@StuntNun chinky for me. Puréed for the bambino.

No tulips. No large animals. 2 very clumsy cats and over friendly seagulls.

Moonswimmer · 26/04/2021 19:24

Has anyone had any problem with acid indigestion on this WOE? Also, I am googling the carb count of Rennies and fretting about it. Am I being stupid, and should just have one if I need one?

Keeva2017 · 26/04/2021 19:25

Good idea @FinallyHere. Il have to contact mumsnet to see if their site can handle the number of threads I’d need lol!

Rayna37 · 26/04/2021 19:26

Excellent start to the week (though that's normal, it's Thursday onwards I go awry!):
B: 2 boiled eggs
L: leftover beef in mustardy mayo on salad of spinach, tomato cucumber olives. Yep Valley kerned yogurt with a tap of cream.
D: pan fried haddock and a MOUND of purple sprouting and spring greens enough for DH to ask "is that FLGV?!" Yes, yes it is

Rayna37 · 26/04/2021 19:31

Also just tested the 95% dark chocolate I picked up in Lidl. Not as good as 90% Lindt but a fraction lower in carbs.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 26/04/2021 19:38

No weight loss today but waistband is less tight so not despondent. I am really finding this way of eating so much better -never hungry and no desire at all for bread etc.

Random789 · 26/04/2021 19:43

B: Coffee with cream
L: Leftover creamy braised cabbage
D: Fried hallomi slices in salad of lettuce, tomato, 1 avocado, crumbled blue cheese, with oil/vinager dressing.
15 grams of 100% chocolate bar dipped in a smidge of cream.

5ft 6, 58 years old, 2 budgies, 2 zebra finches, around 12 tulips, 1 plan to acquire a jack russell puppy.
