Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

BIWI · 25/04/2021 23:22

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

We have a lovely joint of pork from Farmison for dinner tonight. Not sure what veg we'll be having with it yet, but I have a Savoy cabbage that needs to be used, along with a celeriac and some leeks. I have leftover 'jus' in the freezer from another roast, so I'll add that to the meat juices as well.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 26/04/2021 10:31

Sound amazing @BIWI I love pork, my favourite roasts are always pork with a decent crackling.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 26/04/2021 10:38

Morning everyone!

Lol @TheHoover 's vanity stones Grin

@FusionChefGeoff you're brave, you are. Luckily, I have NEVER cheated (ahem), but I IF I did (avoids eye-contact), I'm not sure I'd confess. Thanks

Another two pounds off for me: very pleased. Two more pounds and I'll have lost a stone since Jan, so that's my first mini goal 💪

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 26/04/2021 10:39

Oh, 45, 5'3 (almost), one tulip & no livestock.

Done

Jellycatspyjamas · 26/04/2021 10:46

@FusionChefGeoff I’ve found that this woe has really made me confront my food issues - I’m a huge boredom eater and once I start on the carbs have very little control. Well done posting here, it’s not easy to be honest and shame around food and weight is so embedded in our collective psyche. I hope you have a better day today Flowers

Rshard · 26/04/2021 10:48

Well done for owning it fusion

Snacking is a boredom not hunger thing for me BIWI, so a habit to break rather than a need to adjust what I’m eating.

That’s interesting andi, I definitely sleep better on this woe but had a shocker last Sunday night which lit me out of sort for a couple of days.

Have a super week venus!

StuntNun · 26/04/2021 10:48

I am neither 42 nor 5'2". I feel quite left out now! Grin

Thanks for the oxtail soup recipe on the last thread Angliski I'm going to give that a try. Do you blend it up at the end or leave it chunky?

ListenLinda the stall that often happens between weeks 3 and 5 is nothing to do with switching to Bootcamp Light; it happens with most methods of weight loss. It isn't that you stop losing fat but that the fat loss is masked by temporary water retention. It's all to do with the way different hormones kick in when you start losing weight. It's annoying but completely expected.

Figrus2 if you need to snack it could be that you need to eat more at mealtimes. I boil extra eggs when I'm having them for breakfast actually I steam them but that's a whole nother story and always have a couple in the fridge for snacks or for a quick lunch or to add to a salad. A boiled egg fills you up like nothing else. Add some mayo if you like, or I mix a little curry powder with mayo for a cheats devilled eggs. Another option for snacking is celery sticks and cream cheese.

32 inches off is incredible HalfShrunkMoreToGo and really shows how useful measurements can be.

Potas I'd be surprised if 16:8 affects your periods that much. Could you have been significantly undereating? Is it worth getting your thyroid hormones checked out? Low carb diets can exacerbate thyroid issues which can cause period issues. If that's the case then it might be an idea to introduce a carb refeed every week or every other week.

Jollyholibobs · 26/04/2021 10:55

@BIWI comments noted re snacking. I was about to suggest that my 7.5 - 8 hour gap between lunch and dinner means I need a snack but I don’t know if that is true or another lie I am telling myself. I am going to monitor it for a day or two and see if it’s hunger or habit.

@FusionChefGeoff well done for owning up. It’s hard. I’m in the same place just haven’t been quite as explicitly honest. Working on my mindset and reading about neurolinguistic programming to see if I can find a key to helping reset my mindset. If anyone knows of any good books in this respect I’d be very interested. In my case I have binge tendencies. This WOE definitely helps but only if I stick to it.

prettybird · 26/04/2021 10:58

2.25lb down for me: now 11st 3lb Smile So my abstinence yesterday had its reward Halo

Only 1/4lb to go to my pre-Christmas achievement and 1.5lb to go to where I'd succeeded in getting just before my birthday Smile

@FusionChefGeoff After going mindfully off plan for my birthday, and enjoying it, there might have been an incident at the weekend involving tablet and a whole bag of jelly beans Blush Just goes to show how easily the slippery slope can steepen Shock

The good news is that I made a batch of tablet on Saturday and haven't had a single piece - not even the soft ball test which I did by feel and then threw away Halo Instead, I asked dh to tell me how this batch was. (We put a small bag of tablet into the boxes of wine that we sell and we'd run out, in case anyone is wondering why I would torture myself this way).

cheeseisthebest · 26/04/2021 12:11

FusionGeoff the biggest hug for you. I am exactly the same (definitely ate an entire big bar of dairy milk in one sitting in last bootcamp) and I think you are amazing for owning up.
I agree with jellycat that WOE has really made me examine my eating habits, acknowledging I'm a total binge eater, that my mouth gets bored! I eat emotionally and both you and I and lots of us have come such a long way. None of us are perfect, but we are making progress and we are getting there.
My attitude to food has massively altered in the past few months and I have this group to thank for that.
I will always have the potential to be a binge eater but I'm learning to manage it. You are amazing and doing brilliantly.
Xxx

Ps I have amazing Brittany salted butter. Mmm

cheeseisthebest · 26/04/2021 12:11

Pps I need new adjectives other than amazing.

cheeseisthebest · 26/04/2021 12:14

Ppps @newlook could you please add me to the spreadsheet, 138lb. I'm not that today but Im still claiming it!
NSV today, tried a dress on in John Lewis, a size 12. Got fussed over by the staff and was then delighted to say on the way out, not for me, its too big!! Shock

cheeseisthebest · 26/04/2021 12:19

Oh God, me again!
I just want to say I love this WOE so much. I'm so much happier, more energy, no afternoon naps, I feel amazing. The difference to my body shape, waist etc is incredible and I've only lost 12lb. I will do this for ever I think.

nowlook · 26/04/2021 12:25

Amazingly, I put you on as soon as you posted this morning cheese Grin

Shake it off Fusion. It's another week in the chrysalis, but you'll get there! I'm relieved by your post: that 4lbs was a bit of a head-scratcher, wasn't it Wink

Lovely simple lunch today: boiled eggs, romaine lettuce, cucumber, celery, radishes, shallots, parmesan and hm dressing. Just what the doctor ordered.

Fantastic weather today, but need to change before DS2's cricket this evening as inadvertently wearing a cricket sweater. Look like I'm either taking the piss or, worse, am taking literal dressing to new heights. Might start attending football matches in full kit.

ElasticFirecracker · 26/04/2021 12:31

Sorry @BIWI

I had read the message about the Week 3 Thread, and thought I had posted on that thread.

No Bootcamp light for me, I think I am only just starting to get to grips with this.

It's really clear that the days I have eaten lots of veg throughout the day, and drunk the required amount of water are the days I've felt better in the evenings.

I’ve had problems with lack of focus and organisation, and I will spend some time today planning meals for the rest of the week.

Also I’ve made some assumptions about low carb veg. I now know that green beans and runner beans are different. I thought cabbage and onion were very low carb and they aren’t. I’ve had quite a bit of tomato in my salads, and made quite a few tinned tomato based meals.

I’ve lost 4.2lb in total, 3 in week one and 1.2 this week. This is a great improvement for me because before I started this, I had been steadily gaining weight since Christmas, and I hope I’ve put that into reverse now.

I’m going to try to cut milk out completely as it is a problem for me. I am not missing wine or crisps, though.

Thanks for all the support and interesting posts.

Random789 · 26/04/2021 12:32

@FusionChefGeoff Flowers + Thank you. You've set a wonderful example of honesty that I think will be really helpful to me in terms of just opening up and feeling the fear -- and realising (hopefully) that there was no need for shame, only kindness.

Well I lost half a pound which is such a tiny amount that the spreadsheet's clever calculations register it as zero. But that's ok. I don't mind. That's not a problem at all.* And I shall just hold my head high and carry on. Smile*

That's not ok.
**I do mind.
That is a problem at all.

BIWI · 26/04/2021 12:34

So that's 6.5lbs altogether, @Random789! Which is really not bad for only two weeks!

OP posts:
cheeseisthebest · 26/04/2021 12:38

Do you know what else (im sure you're all thinking shut up cheese!) The days I gain or don't lose im annoyed and have in the past thought fuck it but if I lose I'm so pleased and happy to carry on. Sort of quite twisted logic really.
Thank you nowlook, loving the dressing to suit the activity,my daughter has tae kwondo tonight......

FinallyHere · 26/04/2021 13:05

{{{hug}}} for @FusionChefGeoff I am in awe of anyone who can admit that they have fallen off the waggon. I do it plenty to have tended to just slope off from Bootcamp and pretend that I never wanted to play with them anyway.

Drawing a line and getting back in the saddle so much better way to deal with it.

@Jellycatspyjamas me too about boredom eating. It seemed to me last year that the whole covid thing ( stay home, save lives ) was to give me an excuse for eating all the pies. Now I am noticing how much more likely I am to be tempted when I am not busy. Sigh.

@BIWI Very interesting book suggestion, thank you very much. I've been aware of some of the debates he covers (thanks to @stuntnun of this parish) but have not been able to get my head around it to be able to explain or even outline the thinking to someone else. Love the big red buses v small taxis analogy with police to reduce the accident rate.

why we eat too much

It is especially timely as I recognise how it's boredom and advertising that drive shat I have been calling hunger. Thank you.

FusionChefGeoff · 26/04/2021 13:19

Oh wow I am so humbled by how nice you all are. I don't have time to reply properly but I'm feeling much brighter than I did this morning and am back on track!

More to come later after work.

ThanksThanksThanksThanks. Thank you xx

This spreadsheet, @Random789? I can see your 1/2lb and so can it - recalculated and everything?

VeryLittleOwl · 26/04/2021 13:31

@FusionChefGeoff I think most of us have been there in some form or another :) Flowers You're braver than I am, I just go quiet if I've fallen off the wagon spectacularly and don't post again until I'm back to the last weight on the spreadsheet.

I've done that too Blush

Jellycatspyjamas · 26/04/2021 13:41

I do it plenty to have tended to just slope off from Bootcamp and pretend that I never wanted to play with them anyway.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve done exactly that - started well, slipped a few times and then disappeared. I know now it would have been so much better for me weight wise and psychologically to ‘fess up and get back on the wagon. Your post will remind me to do just that @FusionChefGeoff, a good reminder that the support is there is I just ask for it.

I can highly recommend that book too, written in plain English and a good understanding of how our bodies work - it particularly helped me get my head round the idea of a set weight point that is clearly far too heavy. That’s when I generally get despondent and give up - my weight is lower than it has been for a very long time but understanding my body needs to know I’m not starving if it’s to loose weight helps have the confidence to eat when I need to.

What a fabulous, supportive group this is, so nice to be part of it.

Random789 · 26/04/2021 13:45

Oh,yes, Athelstane, I can see the recalculations now -- I was looking in the wrong bit because of my spreadsheet-related stupidity disorder.

I should clarify though, that my grumpiness in my previous post was about my failure to lose anything significant, not about the spreadsheet, which is a wonderful resource that I'm v grateful for.

And thanks, BIWI. Yes, 6.5 lb in a fortnight is a good start I suppose. I was just hoping to make a bit more progress before getting to the doldrums. The weight I've come down to is still right at the top of my pre-lockdown range so I don't feel too good about it.
I think I'll carry on as before for a week and if i'm still stuck I might try cutting dairy for a week.
