Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

BIWI · 25/04/2021 23:22

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

@nowlook thank you. I'm not the biggest fan of pink - my Mum keeps trying to sneak it in the form of knitwear

@Jellycatspyjamas I have a nearly 10 yo too. Sorry you're having a difficult time. I wonder if my rage comes from being peri menopausal

Great nsv @ditavonteesed

Thank you @Rshard she's a better companion than her brothers were Smile

@MrsKoala oh no, DD was literally 3 this week. Any advice? I did manage to swerve a pair of rainbow heart-shaped with cats eye sunglasses today.
Thats crazy about your school. I got caught bunking and lied and said I'd flooded my skirt so went home to wash it - it actually happened shortly after - karma

@FusionChefGeoff fingers crossed it's nothing

L: 2 cold sausages, h/m mushroom soup
D: roast chicken and salad
S: Gail's 75% hot chocolate - I've tried to find the carbs - no joy yet

Oneborneverydecade · 29/04/2021 20:11

That should say shopping companion #freudianslip

I'm hiding in my bedroom from DS1 - I think I'm supposed to be the adult

That was a very interesting point about them having a safe space to sound off. Are you the primary care giver? DH does most of the cooking, school runs etc here and DS1 (14) speaks to him like shit all of the time sometimes. I just get the monosyllabic "conversations" and general door-slamming.
StuntNun · 29/04/2021 20:19

Guildford eh, Oneborneverydecade that's not too far from me stalker alert! Every school report and parents evening for my DS1 has been disastrous but he managed to get six As at GCSE including the first A the school has ever had for Design and Technology so they must be doing something right with him. We're currently in A level hell so I'll be glad when that's all finished next month. Then we get to start GCSEs all over again with DS2. We are currently in negotiations with the school over compulsory GCSE French because we don't think he can manage it due to his learning difficulties. I'm actually starting to think about sending DS3 to a different high school so he won't have his two brothers' legacies to deal with.

I hate running too but to be honest I'm not really keen on exercise of any sort. I did a bit of fencing at university which is quite fun apart from the actual getting hit with pointy sticks part. I'm more of the "sit down and a cup of tea" type. I had been going great guns with my weight training but it's gone a bit to pot this week between busyness and two trips to A&E. I'm scheduled for Pilates tomorrow morning so maybe that will get me going again.

Oneborneverydecade · 29/04/2021 20:32

@nowlook I do the school runs, DH does the cooking - he talks to us both like shit. As I mentioned up thread he's 6ft 5 and so even though I know better I'm guilty of arguing with him like an adult. Sorry your 14yo is a pita too

@StuntNun that gives me hope! I hope DS2 takes it easy on you and that the next month flies by. I like Guildford for shopping, you?
I tried a fencing evening class once, it wasn't for me

Rayna37 · 29/04/2021 20:38

Ok confession time! No, nothing contraband in my mouth but I've spent the last couple of weeks thinking loads of you are in Scotland looking at Tulips. Why do I think Arundel is Scotland?!!! Only after a reference to Arundel one day Guildford the next did the penny drop (oneborn in the fabulous trousers). To be fair I have long said my geography is brilliant except for everything south between London and Bristol (everything below the M4). I work in logistics, of sorts! Haaaaaaaaaaa.

I was too square to bunk off, I think we once went to the pub in the sixth form instead of a lesson; I genuinely feel a bit sad most pubs don't serve underagers any more.

Rayna37 · 29/04/2021 20:43

I'm a lapsed runner after growing up not at all sporty. DH was a marathon runner and training for his 6th Ironman when we met and it rubbed off a bit; I got into parkrun in 2013. Did lots of 5ks and 10ks in 2014, joined a running club, a few more races and cross country. Treated the second half of my mat leave basically as a training sabbatical for some longer trail races and then did a half marathon in 2019. Will probably get back into it when parkrun restarts. Mostly yoga and swimming at the moment, and getting into cycling, all at to a very basic standard!

I didn't go to Durham Uni because I thought it was in Scotland so would end up with a Scottish law degree (and I wanted to practise in England/Wales).

I went to Newcastle instead. Further north (not that anyone told me that) but reliably English Wink

We opened our GCSE results in our local haunt (the Pattenmakers Arms). Stan and Bet (landlord and landlady) gave us free drinks to celebrate- after all, we'd been loyal customers for a while Grin. It was a different time.

Rayna37 · 29/04/2021 20:47

Eggs for breakfast, chicken and coleslaw salad for lunch. Pork chop, a few green beans and a cauliflower dish I'm obsessed with at the moment- roast in lots of spices and then a dressing/sauce of tahini and lemon juice at the end. So good! Square of dark chocolate with a peppermint tea.

Random789 · 29/04/2021 21:07

B: 75g mascarpone with cinnamon
L: Omlette with cheddar and cabbage and olive oil
D: Salmon fillet and mashed swede with loads of butter.

I've also had three coffees with cream. That's prob too much isn't it.

Also wish I'd held off of the second helping of swede.

Stokey · 29/04/2021 21:30

Can sympathise with all the menopause & puberty. We're not quite there yet but on the borders. Pretty sure I'm perimenopausal & with 2 DDs aged 11 & 9, we're going to be at each others throats before long!
I started C25K in the first lockdown but got really ill & haven't restarted. I'm not good at exercise but am trying to walk and get a couple of 10k days in a week. This was effortless when I was commuting but lots harder now.

B: Greek yoghurt with vanilla &:3 strawberries
L: Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, salad
S: Roast cod in tomato & olive sauce with bacon bits, celeriac mash, mushrooms & broccoli.
I'm rather full!

VeryLittleOwl · 29/04/2021 21:31

I miss running. I started with C25K and ended up doing two half marathons before I decided my knees were more important than keeping going. I do walk a lot, particularly at the moment (19,729 steps recorded yesterday and my phone was recharging for about an hour, so I almost definitely got over 20k), but it's not quite the same.

Rollito car picnic for lunch, two squares of Lindt 85% to celebrate my Covid jab this afternoon, and a pork chop with mashed swede for supper. Sadly the broccoli soup had to go down the sink after a somewhat adverse reaction yesterday evening!

Bra question - I am thinking about swapping to bralettes as I've not been generously gifted in the nork department and suspect they're probably more comfortable than underwired bras. Any recommendations and should I buy now or wait until I'm closer to what I think will be my final stopping point, which is still about 20lbs away? Currently in a 34A, so they surely can't shrink too much?

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/04/2021 21:31

Sad alert here- I used to hide in the loos with a book to avoid PE Blush The only thing I ever enjoyed was hockey got told I should try for the school teamShock because I was somewhat ruthless homicidal when playing against my bullies. Sadly I’d have had to play with them had I joined, and where’s the fun in that? 😂

Most of my A-Level years were spent in the common room playing poker or in the pub. Strangely my results reflected it 😳Hmm Except General Studies which was A) too early in the morning and B) compulsory but completely pointless as it didn’t count when applying to most universities.

That I aced. With about 10% attendance 🤷🏻‍♀️

BIWI · 29/04/2021 21:44

I loved games when I was at school. I had no time for the girls who used to try and get out of it Blush

But then all round Good Girl stuff meant that I was pretty much an inky swot. I've never been very good at rebelling Grin

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/04/2021 21:49

Ooops , back to topic Blush

Water good, the herbal teabags in sparkling water work a treat. Down to one occasional coffee (Black, with 1 or 2 of those tiny milk portions) maybe twice a week.

Food doing ok, sticking strictly to plan but lunch is still too ‘snacky’ when I’m working, need to plan more. Payday Saturday, food shop Sunday, any tips for Aldi’s goodies?

Really not feeling hungry, but know I can easily fall into the OMAD trap and not eat enough, so that’s my ‘work on’ plan for now.

7 week on-off like a tap with a dodgy washer period appears to have ended. Ditto the last week of hell. I’m cautiously happy dancing.

Flowers to @FusionChefGeoff glad you’re getting looked at so quickly.

Flowers to those struggling with teens, look back now and wonder how DP never killed disowned me tbh Confused

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/04/2021 21:55

@BIWI you’d have judged me big time! Plus I hated that girls got no- contact netball and boys got basketball, rugby and football. Violence issues? Moi?

I was a total swot in all other aspects though Blush

Bestbees · 29/04/2021 21:55

I liked school. 6th form I was a bit work hard, party hard and made myself a bit ill, still managed a swotty 5 A levels though. I come from a swotty family, where we all love a bit of learning. My mum is now considering another retrain (teacher to play therapist to psychotherapist to now a vicar!) Loved school so much I trained to teach immediately and have never worked in August!

I have been getting mini cramps in my calf muscles last couple of days. I would previously has a banana, any low carb tips?

BIWI · 29/04/2021 21:56

Sorry @OnceUponAMidnightBeery Grin

MrsKoala · 29/04/2021 21:58

I also enjoyed PE. Despite my degenerate ways I was actually quite academic and sporty. I was in all the teams. Captain of the school netball team and star rower. PE was always in the afternoon, after I’d slept off the night before. Unfortunately German was always in the morning and I couldn’t remember a word of it after 5 years of ‘learning’.

Andi2020 · 29/04/2021 22:00

Just read through all today's post while relaxing in bath can't remember names for parts of chat loving the chat on rolly pollys made me laugh about tucking skirt in.
Flowers to anyone with health problems
Wine to those with teenagers I dont drink so my bp just goes up when I'm given out.
Had 24 hour monitor on and it showed when dd1 was been lippy, it went away above normal.
Saved some of your food dishes to go back too to try out

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/04/2021 22:58

@Bestbees you might need need more electrolytes? Magnesium is the worst one for me, I take a supplement. For potassium and sodium I’ve adopted someone’s (prettybird maybe?) Salt and lemon juice in a glass of water. I think BIWI recommends the zero tablets online, and StuntNun recommends some too.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/04/2021 23:01

@BIWI you’re forgiven Wink

Unless you went to school in South Wales. In which case we need to talk. And I need to apologise for the damage I may have done to your ankles 😂🤣😂

AthelstaneTheUnready · 29/04/2021 23:01

Was never a rebel (too noisy-sounding for me), just... opted out. But you'd have just about tolerated me, BIWI because I was on the tennis and lacrosse teams, and can still put my hands flat on the floor and then stand on them. Halo

mermaidsariel · 29/04/2021 23:02

I have this. Twitching calf muscles. I don’t know what to do about it.

prettybird · 29/04/2021 23:03

I could never do rolly pollies Hmm. Nor could I climb ropes at primary school let alone later Wink I used to think it was because of my lack of upper body strength which is still lacking but I've now realised it is also because I actually have abnormally short arms so less to use as leverage Shock

I can touch the ground with my hands but can't do sit ups with my hands behind my ears as my mid back is too stiff.

I'm a non-addicted distance runner: hate sprints/short distances because they hurt but if I can get fit enough to do longer distances (over 4 miles) can quite enjoy relaxing into the run (and the sense of achievement having done it Wink). In the past, I've run marathons and 1/2Ms. Problem is that the older you get, the longer and more painful it becomes to get to that stage Hmm So I've just re-started, after a 7 month break (itself after an over 15 year break, with the odd half hearted attempt to re-start in between times), with only 2.15km, a distance I hate, and I'll take my time building up the distance (age making me sensible: I once trained for a marathon from scratch in 5 weeks Shock)

For those of you with toddlers, tweenies and teenagers, the work doesn't necessarily stop when they leave home to go to Uni. Dh and I have spent the last day proof-reading a 3,000 word essay that ds is writing on human rights not a topic I know a lot about Shock Because he'd struggled to get to grips with the essay title, his English wasn't as clear as usual, so the proof-reading was really difficult and time-consuming: staying constructive, not re-writing it obviously, as I've not done the research Wink but trying to work out and clarify what he was trying to say Confused

I have told him he's not his mother's son: my essays were always written during the night before the essay was due Blush, not days ahead, with plenty of time for proof reading Grin
