Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

BIWI · 25/04/2021 23:22

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

@ditavonteesed

Morning/evening whatever. I've read all the thread but without making actual notes I'm not going to be able to catch up properly, sorry. I'm trying. *@StuntNun* glad your eye is better, sounds sore. *@nowlook* wow sets that dress is amazing, you can defintly wear it on the school run. Those trousers are amazing, I love a good check.

I have a none scale victory to report today, ages ago 2 of my colleagues gave me uniforms, one fitted me and one were too small, today is the day that the too small are getting worn to work. I honestly never thought I would get to this point and I am so grateful to @BIWI and everyone else. Thank you.

What dress? Confused Grin

I think it was Mrs Koala with the lovely calves, Lidl-ready, in silver.

Genuinely had to check whether I'd been posting pictures of my togs after a few glasses of red!

Rshard · 29/04/2021 16:59

Lovely trews and tulips oneborneverydecade, and dd looks adorable.

And loving the truancy stories, I was also a good girl. Skived once, with my now dh and his mum caught us. Derby library was a very popular place to bunk off nowlook!

BIWI · 29/04/2021 17:12

@ditavonteesed well done! It's you that's done the hard work though!

@MrsBertBibby I can highly recommend the C25K programme - there are lots of free apps that you can use, but the programme is always the same.

It's three runs a week, one every other day, with an extra day of rest after you've done the three - so, for example:

Monday - run
Tuesday - rest
Wednesday - run
Thursday - rest
Friday - run
Saturday - rest
Sunday - rest

To start with, for the first 4 weeks, your three runs will be the same each day. In week 1, on each day you're running, you run for 1 minute and then walk for 1.5 minutes, and this is repeated 8 times. In week 2, on each day you're running, you run for 1.5 minutes and then walk for 2 minutes, and this is repeated 6 times.

So you're gradually building up both your stamina as well as the length of time you're running, and cutting down the amount of walking.

A good explanation here on the NHS website

Important things to consider:

 • decent running shoes
 • decent sports bra
 • ideally get your gait analysed at a running shop; you may need insoles for your shoes

It's was @MrsKoala your right. Amazing dress and gorgeous figure.
@Oneborneverydecade sorry about the teenage fight, it's awful isn't it, I hope things are ok now.

MrsKoala · 29/04/2021 17:29

I love those keks @Oneborneverydecade and the tulips look wonderful. I agree it’s nice to see a girl not in sparkly pink unicorns. Unfortunately dd got to 3 and refused to wear pretty much everything I bought for her after then. She will only wear pink dresses now. No tights, no leggings, no trousers. Just pink summer dresses, bare legs and pink ankle socks and pink shoes. She cries constantly that she’s cold and hates going out. I have sold almost all the lovely practical clothes I bought for her unworn for a fraction of the cost on eBay and don’t get me started on the StartRite winter boots fiasco 😡

Thanks @BIWI I was thinking of catch of the day and fennel but the orange was throwing me off. I am just in a bit of a grump about it because this is a celebration tulip festival and nice lunch for my missed birthday in Feb, Dads in April and Mums next week and it’s bloody Baltic here and I feel I won’t enjoy it because I hate being cold. So my disappointment is making me defeatist about it all. I’ll try to snap out of it and make the best of it. I just want one nice day after this crappy year so far. It’s not to much to ask is it?!

MrsKoala · 29/04/2021 17:38

I never truanted. School was a good place to sleep off my hangover/come down. I used to kip at the back during triple humanities on a Monday morning. Every morning we had either double or triple lessons, so it was a good long stretch for a snooze. Teachers loved it. One less person to bother them. Best pupil they ever had! I also never once did any homework. Even better - less books to mark! They never mentioned it to me or my parents. It was like an unspoken agreement between us, don’t ask, don’t tell. 😂 I still got all my GCSEs tho. I tried that approach with A’levels and my degree and fell on my arse! Some things you can’t wing.

FusionChefGeoff · 29/04/2021 17:46

Wow again I am so comforted by the thought of the thread wishing me well.

Good (ish) news I got through to docs after 35 minutes on hold and was back home clutching a 2 week wait referral less than 30 minutes later! She stressed it could be absolutely nothing but I'd much rather we go all in and that turn out to be the case than the alternative. Couldn't actually book the appointment but will try again every day. We're really lucky with our GP.

@venusandmars I like your style, retire and then go on holiday so fast the flowers don't have time to do - brilliant!!

@BIWI and @Rshard on one hand, if you're not enjoying it, just stop! Running is very hard on our bodies so if you don't get the benefits I'd look into other exercise.

But as @debka says it took me a while after C25k and I am now a committed half marathon runner! Aiming to 'race' the full distance on Sunday actually with no fuel so will be fascinating to see if I can get close to my PB from 2 years ago - training has gone well so who knows.

@StuntNun glad to hear better eye updates

@Jellycatspyjamas and @Oneborneverydecade I am NOt looking forward to that stage at all. Mine are still gorgeously amenable primary kids

@nowlook the yoga is an amazing achievement and hopefully is adding so much more than flexibility etc so totally agree don't put yourself under pressure.

Food today has been good:

L: salmon, avo, courgette, green salad with the first of my home grown produce for this year - some basil!
D: more salmon Woops! But with FLGV, hm
Lemon and parsley sauce and a last scoop of celeriac gratin

Random789 · 29/04/2021 17:46

Lovely (and bargainous!) trousers Oneborneverydecade, and what a gorgeous daughter !!

I managed a run in the lovely sunshine just now. I'm still horribly slow but I think I've got past the really sickly exhausted feeling of a couple fo weeks ago.

There was talk up-thread of the runner's high. I think that the only times I've achieved anything approaching that, I have done it by building in short bursts of running as fast as I could, and then going back to my normal pace. I think the screaming pain and fear of cardio stress may be the price you have to pay for the lovely afterglow.

Random789 · 29/04/2021 17:51

So glad you got your referral sorted out smoothly, FusionChefGeoff Flowers

mermaidsariel · 29/04/2021 17:57

.

nowlook · 29/04/2021 18:03

Now this is marvellous. First dita compliments me on my frock; now Fusion is praising my amazing achievements in yoga Grin

I once did a forward roll in primary school. Nice to finally get the recognition my sporting prowess deserves.

This is what happens when you turn into running fools. It burns your memory glands. That's just basic science.

ditavonteesed · 29/04/2021 18:07

@nowlook take the wins.

Makegoodchoices · 29/04/2021 18:07

Weird food day.
B: Greek yogurt
L: Fridge clearing soup - courgette, cauliflower, leek, garlic, broccoli and cream cheese.
D: Roasted garlic and Rosemary radishes with cheese.

So, the radishes taste of absolutely nothing when cooked. I think that’s a good thing and I’ll do them again - maybe in place of potatoes with roast chicken. But I’ve never eaten a vegetable that tasted so ‘nothingy’!

And then I had some 90% chocolate that I definitely didn’t need but it didn’t make me go into a sugar frenzy so I’ll just leave that there.

I think I needed some meat at some point today! Radishes would have been great with halloumi or bacon and another vegetable I think.

Makegoodchoices · 29/04/2021 18:09

@nowlook No need to boast about your forward roll glory days. Some of us can only dream of such feats. (Have you tried them as an adult? They really hurt!)

nowlook · 29/04/2021 18:14
@nowlook No need to boast about your forward roll glory days. Some of us can only dream of such feats. (Have you tried them as an adult? They really hurt!)
I have and it was not a pretty sight. Have you tried a handstand? Gravity is a different and difficult beast when you're no longer tucking your dress in your knickers. Also basic science.

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/04/2021 18:17

@FusionChefGeoff both of mine are primary aged too but my girl has headed straight into puberty and her hormones/emotions are all over the place. She struggles with emotional regulation at the best of times due to ASN but the last couple of weeks she’s turned into a tantrum img, eye rolling madam. She’s still gorgeous too but my god she pushes me to my limits at times.

@Oneborneverydecade I know what you mean, before you know it you’re in the middle of a raging argument thinking this wouldn’t be ok if it were another adult I was arguing with. I guess they need somewhere safe to bounce off of but it’s hard going.

Gin and flowers all round.

FusionChefGeoff · 29/04/2021 18:30

Oh sorry @nowlook! I was trying to remember everyone and must have got it mixed up!!

colouringindoors · 29/04/2021 19:09

Lay down at 4 to rest my back..... jyst woken up! hey ho!

L scrambled egg and smoked salmon
D bolognaise with chargrilled roasted veg (sains frozen) and prob some green beans to finish them off!

Now need to catch up on last 3 hours drinking...

BIWI · 29/04/2021 19:22

@nowlook I used to be a dab hand, as it were, at walking on my hands. Used to do that in the playground. I hope I tucked my dress into my knickers, but can't be sure ... Shock

OP posts:
nowlook · 29/04/2021 19:51

I always wanted to be able to do that @BIWI. I expect it's too late now

Other things many people can do that I never could:

 • Touch my toes (even when I was a nipper);
-The splits.

Don't worry about it Fusion. I retain a decent amount of text I've read in my nut (not forever and not all information; it's not a photographic memory thing). Useful as a lawyer; irritating as a spouse, I'm told Grin

MrsKoala · 29/04/2021 19:55

I can still touch my toes, lay on my belly and touch the back of my head to the soles of my feet and do the front splits, (that’s hyper mobility for you) but I used to be able to walk my hands down the back of my legs and go into a crab from standing. Sadly no more as I found out drunkenly. 😂

BIWI · 29/04/2021 20:04

I can still touch my toes - actually I can put the flat of my hands on the floor!

ListenLinda · 29/04/2021 20:06

I’ve eaten too much at tea time i feel horribly uncomfortable. Every single mouthful was low carb but I wish I had stopped eating about four forkfuls sooner Grin
3 litres of water too, so that’s a good start.
DS had me up at 3.15am, took himself back off to sleep at 5.15am and DD was up 30 mins later.
I need sleep Confused

nowlook · 29/04/2021 20:06

And finally fully caught up! Hope your eye's better now StuntNun.

Delighted things are happening for you Angliski

Phoar MrsKoala. I hope Shag would be suitably impressed. For newer BC'ers, ShagMeRiggins is a long-term bootcamper who is also a stylist. WATER!

ListenLinda Flowers Not surprised you had the baguette, but if you posted that elsewhere on MN, you'd be told to get your ducks in a row, get a SHL (shit hot lawyer) and LTB.

Fusion glad you're getting checked out. It's a worry and hopefully you'll get reassurance. I went last year during the height of the first wave and was amazed how thorough the NHS were. Kept apologising for adding to their workload, obvs Hmm

Courgetti is the devil's work, but raw is palatable.

Enjoy your fab break venus

Sorry I've missed lots of stuff. Real life (well, work) getting in the way of the thread.

In happy news, my lunchbox was much admired yesterday. I responded to the compliments in the traditional (working class?) way:
"Oh, it was only £20 from Amazon"

nowlook · 29/04/2021 20:09

I've just tried @BIWI and @MrsKoala. I can only touch my knees Shock Blush. That's really bad, isn't it?
