Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

For Stokey and anyone else this might help, I'd suggest trying a different brand of yogurt if you don't like the one you have plain. They vary tremendously though the only one I dislike enough to never buy it is (inconveniently) the Aldi one. It's worth popping to different supermarkets now and again while bootcamping ok I get not everyone likes food shopping as much as me just to get a variety of products! Also, bargain meat/fish yellow stickered if you time it right. I did see an HILARIOUS stand off with a woman trying to bag all the reduced legs of lamb last week, before the worker had even got the stickers on. The cheek! Needless to say I did manage to bag one for my freezer.

Rayna37 · 28/04/2021 11:26

Also my input for Angliski and anyone worried about week 3/4 stalls is keep it simple. Just because we can enjoy cauliflower cheese, celeriac dauphinoise, double cream and a whole host of lovely things, to my mind it's worth thinking of these as treats (to replace the types of treats we really shouldn't have like pizza/chips/puddings) or at least not daily staples. I find the simplest way to ensure good losses is eggs in some form for breakfast (or lunch/brunch), protein and salad for lunch and meat/fish and 2 or 3 green buttery veg for dinner. That's my UberCamp, I suppose. Echoing what I think MrsKoala said really.

I never posted food for yesterday I think:
2 eggs scrambled, then mid morning handful of Brazils and walnuts.
Salad of leftover roast beef in mustard mayo on spinach tomato cucumber salad with yogurt afterwards.
A Spanish style pork stew on sautéed kale; made pre-bootcamp (frozen) so did include cannellini beans but only ate a few, Max 1/4 of a can. Also picked on some dry roasted nuts after work which I really shouldn't have. Square of 95% chocolate with a peppermint tea.

MrsKoala · 28/04/2021 11:32

Not at all @Random789 for me, caring for myself didn’t matter. But it was only when I wanted children. That biological urge gave me the incentive I needed. I grew up with a less than ideal childhood and I was determined not to do that. The truth is you have to really want to do it and it’s still bloody hard. And I was fortunate with the help I got/sought. And as you say my illness was different and I think that allowed me more agency. I also have a will of iron when it’s something I want (or more precisely something I don’t want), but only when it’s something which matters to me, I can’t channel it for anything else. My dd is the same, I need to teach her to channel it better than I ever did. I wish I learned that much younger, I didn’t know I had those reserves to utilise. I’m so sorry you lost your son. The pain must be monumental, I can’t comprehend how strong you must be. Flowers

Rshard · 28/04/2021 11:38

Very sobering post mrskoala Flowers and for you and your son random789, I can’t imagine what it must feel like to lose a child.

Linnet · 28/04/2021 11:44

I forgot to post my food yesterday, I think I was too excited about being able to go out to actual shops where I bought some new tops for work. I had to buy a size down from what I usually buy, seeing as I’ve only lost 3lbs I don’t think it’s to do with weight loss more to do with the shops messing with the sizes of their clothes. I have lost a few inches since Christmas, mostly off waist and hips, but not bust unfortunately. I was looking at the sizing guides on websites last night and according to most of them my hips are between a 10-12 my waist is a 12 and my bust is a 16-18! I feel all of that is nonsense for me.

Anyway on to food I had yesterday,
B- eggs mashed with butter
L- leftover turkey meatballs
D chicken curry with cauliflower
I may also have a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows when I was in town as we went to a cafe for the first time since last year 😱🤭

Today I’m being super good and having
B- skipped, not hungry
L- probably chicken salad
D- crustless quiche

I’m also managing to drink loads of water usually between 3-4L a day.

prettybird · 28/04/2021 11:51

Just been for my first run since last September Shock Took it very slowly and only did 2.15km. Dh shuffled round with me even though he's not supposed to run at all as he's waiting on a hip replacement as he's got fed up of not being able to exercise.

Angliski · 28/04/2021 12:08

I love this group, thank you everyone for your generous advice and encouragement.

@Random789 I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

@MrsKoala interesting to hear, I'm also on the bipolar spectrum - oh the things i did in my teens and twenties on the back of it!!

Ok so I have listened to you all and learned something which is - although there is no restriction in principle, it is also not going to work to eat, say, eggs with fish and some dairy and some veg in one meal, as i have been doing. I need to think roughage + fat + a protein, not three proteins. Think about veggies in yummy fats and very unprocessed protein. Angliski ponders mind shift.

So today I had:
Scrambled eggs with turmeric for breakfast
For lunch I shall be having tuna mayo with salad - mostly raw veg but there are green beans and olives in their too, with vineagrette and some mushrooms fried in butter
Dinner - mashed swede with butter, more salad, probably an asian mince fried thing ( 100g to experiment with Uber bootcamp amounts). Can i have a spoon of cauliflower cheese too?

All the water.

Any improvements needed for above to be a fully compliant day? Thank you again!

I took my son to his first toddler music class this morning. He was a little bit mind blown by the amount of adults and children in one space. I'm not sure he is one for following the instructions. He kept posting the woodblocks into the drum and then kept lifting ut up to try to work out why they didnt come out the bottom! Then he sat in the tub where the instruments were held... and tried to eat the egg shakers.

VeryLittleOwl · 28/04/2021 12:45

Bookmarks appear to be fixed, thank goodness!

NSV here, the jeans that I had to take off after a couple of hours three weeks ago because they were just too uncomfortable are now slightly loose around the waist.

I'm now chancing my arm with some broccoli soup. I made it yesterday because the broccoli was starting to turn yellow and I had to cut a couple of soggy spots off it. (Amazing how the thought of a 50-mile round trip for the nearest place to buy more makes you go, 'Oh, it'll be fine.'). It smells and tastes a little stronger than normal, so I'm waiting to see if I'm going to be shut in the bathroom for the rest of the afternoon or whether all will be well.

prettybird · 28/04/2021 12:55

I often use dodgy/end of life veg in things @VeryLittleOwl Grin - especially cauliflowers and broccoli Wink

Never had a problem yet Wink

prettybird · 28/04/2021 12:56

Oh - and congratulations on the jeans NSV Smile

Moonswimmer · 28/04/2021 12:56

Ooh, updated list on the veg carb counter sheet! Thank you very much to whoever did that.

ouchmyfeet · 28/04/2021 13:05

Wise words from @Rayna37 .

And thanks to @MilesJuppIsMyBitch. I am upping the amount I eat today in the hope that I can keep it to the right stuff. Just had a chicken breast pizza for lunch with coleslaw and salad so that will keep me full this afternoon.

BIWI · 28/04/2021 13:45

@Moonswimmer

Details supplied by @StuntNun, editing by me (into three separate spreadsheets - veg, fruit and nuts) and grouping by traffic lights by me, insertion into spreadsheet by @AthelstaneTheUnready!

A true team effort, and my thanks to them for their help!

The carb counts are taken from the romantic-sounding McCanceWiddowsonsCompositionofFoodsIntegratedDataset_2021.

You'll see a slight change in terms of the traffic lights - so now, green is anything under 5g carbs per 100g, amber is 5-8g and red is 8g over. This applies across all three spreadsheets, so veg, fruit and nuts.

There's a huge amount more data, so if there's any particular veg/fruit/nut you want to know about, just shout.

Just found the cheese scone recipe on the low carb vegetarian page. Love this recipe and helped avert many a potential carb calamity! Better get my pinny on...

ElasticFirecracker · 28/04/2021 14:00

Well done to those who are running and doing c25k. If can be life changing, well it was for me. I never in a million years thought I could be someone who ran. I did it 3 years ago.

Unfortunately I've had a knee injury, and am now trying to build up again, very slowly to be able to run 5k when Parkrun starts in June.

colouringindoors · 28/04/2021 14:15

@Mrskoala thank you so much for sharing your story, I really appreciate it, and your kindness. You've done a brilliant thing getting yourself on track and stable. I know how hard that can be, but brilliant. My ex took years to be diagnosed in large part because he managed to hide his most severe illness/behaviour from everyone except me. His almost successful suicide attempt was the start of professionals reslising the extent of his ill health, though support/treatment on the NHS is scandalously minimal. I believe children of a parent with a severe mental illness need more support (some/any support). His illness has caused ptsd in my ds and in me, and now we are both effectively disabled. Wishing you wellness and happiness 💐

1stMrsF · 28/04/2021 14:16

I'm not managing to keep up with the threads and therefore haven't posted at all, so I'm just dropping in to say I'm still here! Thank you for the usual great ideas and fabulous support that I have managed to absorb. Lost my between bootcamp/Easter gain in the first week, so that was pleasing, but found last week hard as we went back to school/work and so had a small gain again. However, have managed to get back on it this week and seeing the desired result. Bank holiday weekend and both DCs and DHs birthdays coming up, but we've planned BBQs so there will be good options. To be positive about what is going well, I'm drinking the water! Hopefully life will calm down a bit and I'll be able to RTFT and post a bit more.
B - had a hard boiled egg with mayo today (usually fast) as feeling a bit hungry. Creamy coffee
L - roast chicken thighs and vegetables from school canteen
D - Chilli (no beans) with tacos for DCS and ts broccoli for me.
KOKO Grin

colouringindoors · 28/04/2021 14:17

Oh @Random789 I'm so sorry to hear about your son. 🥀🥀🥀

MrsKoala · 28/04/2021 15:30

@colouringindoors I’m relieved you felt my story was supportive. I was in 2 minds whether to post. It’s a fine line between sharing stories and showing empathy and totally merailing the discussion. I always like it when people tell me their experiences but I know others can find it insensitive and attention seeking. I’m so saddened to hear of your ongoing trauma, I really hope you are getting rl support and help with it all. Flowers

Orcagirl · 28/04/2021 16:19

Guys I’m an idiot Sad

After my super happy result on Monday and getting down to a number I haven’t been in a while, I went about sabotaging that on Monday and yesterday! This included binging on chocolate and a kebab, chips... Blush

Line drawn. Today I’ve had coffee, Greek yoghurt and tea will be stir fry.

Why do this to myself every time!

Bestbees · 28/04/2021 16:34

@MrsKoala @colouringindoors @Random789 thank you for sharing your stories. It is such a shame that support only seems available at the point of absolute crisis. Flowers

Sound like Move it May is a goer. I think we can set our own challenges and add them into our meal posting? Mine will be to do something physical every day of May. This could be a 5 min yoga or a 10k run, as long as it happens.

Last few nights I have been saying to my children 'shall I cook rice to go with x or just veg?' with no judgement. They have chosen just veg each time. They get loads of carbs at breakfast and lunch so feel like this is a positive gentle opportunity to get more veg in!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 28/04/2021 16:39

Flowers @Random789 and @MrsKoala

Love the idea of Move It May, at the moment when not in work I move from bed to couch. And sometimes back again. The couch finally made it upstairs from the garden, just as well as it’s raining here today

I’m in for Muck It Out May declutter as well. God knows the house needs it Grin Blush

@StuntNun don’t want to speak too soon, but I think hope beg and pray to any deities that may listen that TOTM from hell might finally be over 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

cheeseisthebest · 28/04/2021 17:17

Mrskoala, colouring and random, hugs for all you. Xxx

Im in for move it may and also inspired by bestbees getting my kids to eat a wider variety of veg.
Went for a lovely walk today with my work team. So nice to see them but sad that so many good friends have left.

prettybird · 28/04/2021 17:35

I'm up for both Move it May and a Muck it out May decluttering challenge - especially as we can start having people other than my dad in the house from 17 May Smile

Oh - and I've booked a Cut & Colour for 15 May Smile Wedding Anniversary is 16 May and I'm hopeful that by then I will be lower than the 11st 2.75lb I was when I last saw her (on Christmas Eve). Currently 11st 3lb so only need to lose 1/2lb to achieve that Grin

Ideally I'd like to be under 11st - but I have to factor in the Weeks 3/4/5 doldrums and be realistic Wink but that doesn't stop me aspiring to it Wink

MrsKoala · 28/04/2021 17:43

@ditavonteesed here is my most recent purchase, just so practical for the school run and popping into Lidl Grin I wonder what @shagmeriggins would say!
