Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

BIWI · 25/04/2021 23:22

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

Such a range of teas people enjoy. I'm eaking out a box of butter mint for emergencies from a friend and love the liquorice but appreciate it needs to be rationed to avoid impact on heart etc

Mostly though, I just use whatever is to hand in the kitchen, usually lemons/lime, mint or ginger either alone or in combination, in a large 1.5l carafe of water, refilled at least once a day. The earlier the refill is required, the better.

Love the idea of moving in May challenge. WFH and with groceries delivered each week, I could easily not leave the house for long stretches. I've been "thinking about" a 30-ish minute walk each morning in place of my former commute.

Shall go out in the morning latest 7.30am regardless for absolute minimum 20mins. If it turns into 30 mins or even longer (as my commute so often did ) so much the better.

Evening commute shall be yoga with the same rules.

@TeddingtonTrashbag loving your The positive influence of kindly strangers! Thank you

pinkpinkeverywhere · 28/04/2021 08:45

@Pleaseandthankyou would you mind sharing your veg curry recipe? I eat vegetarian most of the time and am missing a curry as we've always used the packets with all the spices in Blush and I have no idea how to make one from scratch, but yours sounds nice.

@Angliski I only eat fish maybe once a week and never meat and I'm managing to lose, so I wouldn't feel pressure to eat the fatty meat every day. Things I eat include, tinned tomatoes with the lowest carb count I can find, make a sauce with lots of veg in it, have courgetti instead of spaghetti and cover in grated cheese or mozzerella pieces and bake. Or the beautiful aubergine parmigiana recipe on the veggie thread or just lots of veg with a celeriac and swede dauphinoise. I do eat a lot of omelettes at lunch, but have just bought my first low carb bread and am loving having a sandwich again.

colouringindoors · 28/04/2021 08:47

Thanks so much everyone, really, really 😍

Going to do my best to keep going with bootcamp despite loosing my main motivator (target bmi for surgery). Maybe new motivator can be a "fuck you" to ex outfit for my 50th!

Drawing line under last night's derailment. If I can, after work, I'll pop to m and s and get some nice low carb deli stuff to help.

Angliski sounds really tough 💐 could you approach bootcamp on a "I'm not eating carbs today" each morning? take care

FinallyHere · 28/04/2021 08:48

Goodness, not such a good start. I've lingered indoor on this brilliant thread past the time I was setting to go out for a walk.

Ok, going now. So glad we haven't actually start May yet. Timely reminder, ooohh, no MN til I've done a walk. That will work 😆

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2021 08:51

I'm sorry Tourist.

Delayed retirement must be so tough.

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2021 08:54

@Angliski I am vegetarian, and whilst it does mean you are short of choice and eating out is all but impossible, I have managed good losses.

Maintenance is trickier!

Random789 · 28/04/2021 08:59

"Shall go out in the morning latest 7.30am regardless for absolute minimum 20mins. If it turns into 30 mins or even longer (as my commute so often did ) so much the better. "

That's just what I need to do, too: make a declaration of daily intent, like FinallyHere's.

So, here goes: I will leave the house at 7:15 each morning and go for a brisk walk -- before coffee, before social media [shocked]. I'll aim for 30 mins, but anything over 20 will be ok.

prettybird · 28/04/2021 09:13

@Angliski - it might help your mindset if you remind yourself that all healthy "diets" end up averaging a weekly loss of only on average 1-2 pounds a week Smile

There may be some weeks when there is no loss and some weeks when there is a whoosh but the overall trajectory is downward.

The wonderful thing about this Way of Eating is that you can do this without feeling like you are starving as your appetite is naturally suppressed. It can take a while to get there though as we've got so unused to true feelings of hunger and half the time we are "hungry" (or as some have described it "hangry" or "mouth hungry"), it is not true hunger but it is boredom or simply habit - or even thirst. I know I'm guilty of that Blush

As time goes on, we learn to listen to our bodies better and differentiate between true hunger and habit/boredom.

But it's important we don't cheat as this WoE as it is unforgiving. You won't get the appetite suppressant and fat burning effects if you muck up the ketogenic adaption Sad

Makegoodchoices · 28/04/2021 09:15

B: Greek yog
L: Boiled eggs mashed with butter
Snack: TBD
D: Leftovers - spicy chicken and broccoli

Boring one today, I’m also going for a run and I’m finding it a struggle to fit around meals - if before then I’m all weak, if after I get horrible indigestion. So I’m breaking my no snack policy to see if it helps. Shouldn’t be this pathetic at the start of couch to 5k! However usually I’m a massive carby twat when I run, so this is a departure!

@FinallyHere Everyday with a walk is a great plan, it’s easy to forget that the outside is there when you WFH, and it’s so good for you to see the sun occasionally. However that being said, today you’d have to look pretty hard to find it here!

Andi2020 · 28/04/2021 09:21

Good morning
@doilooklikeatourist sorry your sale didn't go through Flowers
@angliski Flowers hope you have a better day.
Really tired this morning no sleep with bp monitor going off every hour.

B nothing ( fasting for bloods) went for 20 minute walk to avoid temptation of tea
L spinach cheese tuna tomatoes.
D quiche without crust greek yogurt
A few nuts if hungry
2.5 litres water and Green tea and Ginger tea.

Oneborneverydecade · 28/04/2021 09:30

I wonder if you're local to me @MrsBertBibby my DS's school do a trip too (I was rejected as a helper twice so know your frustration Smile). It's a couple of years since I've been to Arundel so I can't remember how it compares size wise. I think the gardens are mostly formal though. We're off to Wakehurst on Sunday - Nymans is our closest NT but I find it a bit small, you?

Moonswimmer · 28/04/2021 09:31

Move it May sounds brilliant. And we have a few days to psych ourselves up for it, find trainers etc, which is really important (for me!).

Stokey · 28/04/2021 09:35

Morning everyone. Can I ask a question about portion size? Is there any limit on how much you should be eating? Like 2 eggs or 3 eggs omelette? And what about Greek yoghurt? Also in the first two weeks, can you have anything with Greek yoghurt or just plain? And is mozzarella allowed? Yesterday's lunch was mozzarella, avocado & tomato (just 5 cherries) with basil & rocket & olive oil. Is that ok?

Am getting my supermarket food order this morning so am quite excited as have ordered lots of fresh veg & fish (& eggs of course) after making do with what we had lying around for the last two days.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 28/04/2021 09:42

Wow @Moonswimmer 🎉! Top work!

Also big WHOOP to @BIWI on your C25K triumph! I did it a few years ago: it feels marvellous, doesn't it? (I couldn't do it now, mind).

Welcome @Stokey!

@ditavonteesed your happy shopping story made me do a soppy smile. I'm so pleased for you.

Thanks@colouringindoors

@ouchmyfeet I'm like that too. Key to success? Make it part of your plan! You've had April off: hope you enjoyed it 🎉. So now, get back in the saddle, & plan another break in the future. This has been a game-changer for me 💪

@TeddingtonTrashbag I'm sure they don't hate you Thanks

@Doilooklikeatourist Thanks

Speaking of trying to form new habits, has anyone heard of the WOOP technique? It's a big thing in motivational psychology atm. It takes five minutes, and it's a way of rewiring your brain to make it more likely that you'll achieve your goal.

Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan. Worth a Google!

prettybird · 28/04/2021 09:44

Stokey : At this stage, have whatever portion size satiates you. So if you want a 3 egg omelette, have a 3 egg omelette. But then maybe try a 2 egg omelette and see if that is sufficient.

In terms of Greek yoghurt, you can try a pinch of cinnamon which I happen to love or some sugar free vanilla paste (or vanilla powder if you can get it). If it's 5% fat yoghurt, you might want to add some double cream, but the Authentic Greek yoghurt I get from Lidl (and most of the supermarket "Special" ranges) is 10% fat, so I don't feel the need Smile

Full fat mozzarella is absolutely fine - so that lunch sounds fab. It's actually one of my favourites (I might even have it myself today Grin).

Thing101 · 28/04/2021 09:46

Hello, please can I join? Really need some BSM (big stick motivation) :)

Stokey · 28/04/2021 10:00

@prettybird cinnamon and/or vanilla paste both sound delicious, thank you!

I did have a 2 egg cheese omelette for lunch on Monday which really filled me up so actually I probably don't need anymore. So glad mozzarella is allowed! DH has already lost 3kg in 3 days Shock but he had loads more bread, crisps & beer than me, so think he'll find the initial weight loss easier, although is finding the lack of bread harder. Whereas my weaknesses are biscuits and chocolate.

Hello @Thing101, I'm also a newbie.

MrsKoala · 28/04/2021 10:14

@ditavonteesed your jumpsuit is gorgeous I lone the colour so much. Where did you get it? I also keep buying wildly inappropriate clothing because it just make me feel good. I have a wardrobe of things with the labels still on. If you think your things are impractical then wait till you see my most recent purchase (I’ll pos a pic when H gets back) Grin

@OnceUponAMidnightBeery he most certainly is a floof but he’s a murderer wrapped in the stuff. H is currently driving a Robin chick to our local wildlife rescue centre who know us by name. One week he was there 3 times with pipistrel bats and birds. We release the voles and things ourselves.

I’d definitely be up for a declutter home habitat head clearing project. We are drowning in shit here and it totally messes with my MH. No one else cares tho so I’m working against 4 other tat accumulating mess monsters.

I’d like to move a bit more in something more structured like Pilates or spinning. I already walk miles every day and I’m in constant pain now with a terrible bunion on my left foot. Dr prescribed anti inflammatories but they’ve done nothing so I’ll need to go back as walking is agony and I can’t rest or stop because of all the school runs etc.

@Angliski and @Andi2020 I found my weight came off the most successfully when I really reduced dairy and things like swede and celeriac. It happened quite by accident because I usually BC over winter so have lots of stews and swede/celeriac mash. But last year I did the summer one and just naturally had more salads with meat/fish/eggs and a lot less cheese and the weight really fell off. I tend to have eggs for breakfast, a salad for lunch and then things like tray bakes/drier things and loads of veg roasted in olive oil for dinner and only have swede/celeriac once or twice a week.

@Oneborneverydecade have fun at Arundel, I am so jealous. We are at Pashley on Friday and I can’t wait. Post lots of pics please.

@Doilooklikeatourist so sorry to hear about your retirement plans. It must be so disappointing for you. Are there any positives you can focus on? Could you still sell the business?

@colouringindoors that sounds so tough for you. I also have bipolar and it’s one of the reasons I had children quite late. In my 20s I was a mess. I used to go missing for weeks and be found in some strange mans house I’d have met in a pub with no idea what their name was etc. Wanting children is what made me take control. My dr said to me once ‘you need to stop letting it control you and enjoying it’ and I realised he was right. I loved being manic, it is such a high and I could say it wasn’t my fault but the truth was I let the waves of mania wash over me quite willingly and self medicated with booze and drugs. I could never keep a job, lost loads of friends. The thought of damaging my future children made me start taking antipsychotics and get lots counselling etc. It took 3 years of work before I was ready and trusted myself. It’s still hard work, like an addict I crave the highs. But the thought of my children suffering is a sobering thought. I am so sorry your ex has damaged your son in this way. My heart aches for him and you who are the one picking up the pieces. He is lucky to have your stability. I hope you can think of being healthy and happy for him as your motivation for koko. Flowers sorry I’ve rambled on there a bit Blush but I wanted you to know I understand a little bit.

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2021 10:38

Oneborn this was my primary school! So, like, 45 years ago. And still it rankles. Grin

We're a way North of Nymans and Wakehurst.

BIWI · 28/04/2021 10:40

Morning all.

Late start for me - bad night's sleep led to finally getting to sleep very late (or early, depending on how you look at it!) and was only woken up by the telephone at 9.15. Really annoyingly a scam call too.

Lots to catch up on.

Hopefully MNHQ have fixed the bookmark fixture, as it's much harder without it!

pangolinfan · 28/04/2021 10:40

Morning all. Thanks prettybird for the reminder that a 1-2lb loss a week is what success is supposed to look like - I always forget that!
I am enjoying my water a lot more since taking up someone's idea of sticking a fruit tea bag in it. Currently got Twinings turmeric, orange and star anise on the go (sounds grim, tastes lush) and after 4 refills of my pint glass it is still going strong.

BIWI · 28/04/2021 10:40

... and I see they haven't.

Random789 · 28/04/2021 10:45

Wow, MrsKoala, your stance towards your bipolar, your attitude to the project of working out what is best for you in relation to medication and self-management is awesome. My son , who died last year, had a psychotic disorder (variously diagnosed as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, etc) and my greatest hope for him was that he would become well enough and the mental health services would be competant and respectful enough to allow him to seize that kind of agency and power in relation to his illness and his medication.
I hope you don't mind me commenting like this. His illness was very different from yours of course, but still it brings up some of the same thoughts.

Rayna37 · 28/04/2021 10:53

I try to keep to just or two or three caffeinated drinks per day, usually at home and so properly made with nice Clipper tea or coffee from the fancy machine, first thing. Whole Milk (or cream in the coffee if we have it). After that I drink chamomile at work as it's quick and easy, plus water. Occasionally another regular tea or a peppermint in the evening.

prettybird · 28/04/2021 10:59

@BIWI : if it helps, the bookmark is working on the App. Smile
