Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp

As ever here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I rather suspect, given the confessions/visits by Cathy Twat, that a lot of Bootcampers aren't going to have much luck on the scales at the end of this week.

As I've warned, cheating really won't help - and this is a very unforgiving WOE. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that you will be lucky, and will see a good result on the scales, however. Or with the tape measure - or that you're fitting into your clothes better.

So now you have a choice

After the first two strict weeks of Bootcamp you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means that you can re-introduce some fruit (mainly berries) and some nuts/seeds, and alcohol in moderation - and restricted to dry wine and clear spirits.

BUT

... you also need to remember/know that weeks 3 & 4 are notorious for seeing little or no weight loss - sometimes you may even see a slight gain.

So it's up to you if you want to relax things.

If you haven't been totally on plan over the last week, I strongly recommend that you stay on strict Bootcamp for another week

If you feel you're ready to move on, then you can go to full-on Bootcamp Light, or you could consider a hybrid - so strict Bootcamp during the week and then Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

Whatever your choice, I hope that week 3 is kind to you!

Please, please, please remember that this week/next week are our infamous 'Doldrums' and so don't be disappointed if you don't see any losses on the scales

This is also another good reason why you should be taking your measurements - the scales might not be moving, but your body shape may well be changing.

Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck! Flowers

Thanks @Stokey and @nowlook.
I will have a think. I’m happy not to have eaten the main big carbs, perhaps I need to try hitting it harder.

Angliski · 27/04/2021 23:00

@Bestbees @MrsKoala I have 5 stone to lose. Been doing this the last 2.5 weeks. Before Christmas I lost 20lbs that I have kept off using low carb calorie counting under 1250 calories.

I’ve been rereading all the info and maybe I need more slender amounts of protein without any fancy sauce or dairy etx. Just plain fried stuff. I will try Uber for 3 days, if I haven’t lost anything after that I think I might draw a line under it and go back to what I was doing. I miss fruit and pulses and find it hard to eat animal protein at every meal. But I take the feedback from PP that maybe I need to be Uber strict and see what Happens. It is true @nowlook that I am juggling a lot, but I am always juggling a lot and I am all so juggling being obese which is zero fun!

Angliski · 27/04/2021 23:09

@colouringindoors I’m really sorry to hear that. I hope you can find a way to access good support and holding today and in whatever next stages bring.. we’re here!

Thank you all for your kind support everyone and @venusandmars and@Jellycatspyjamas for your insights. I’d normally lose a good 3 lbs on a first week and be approaching 7lbs by week 3. I appreciate there are stops and starts.

Some years ago I joined a 12 step food addiction programme. It had low card high fat approach but you had to weigh and measure and account for everything which helped me as I think I eat way too much for my height and energy needs. It was v similar to rules here about flgv plus 120g protein at each meal and 1 tbsp of fat in whatever form. Then I lost 3 stone over about 5 months. I’ve also lost similar on fast 800. Then I had a baby and got massive. I’m still 5 st over.

I do appreciate getting off the carb highs and the massive overeating triggered by bread etc. I do feel kore balanced blood sugar. I do appreciate all of that, but I really want to have another child and I don’t want to be heavy throughout the pregnancy. I really need to get the numbers down. I’m scared that I cannot do it without massive restitution and I know that only leads to disaster. I am really trying but I need to get more dairy out and less other veg and keep it more simple- Uber looks like a very light plan that I will be hungry on, but let’s see. It’s only 3 days.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 27/04/2021 23:20

Re: March challenges, I’d be up for a May one if anyone is interested? Mine would probably be along the decluttering/tidying line rather than hardcore exercise (yeh, being honest and accountable, I’m shit at that Blush )

Or would a long dog walk count? I could get my knock off type Fitbit out of retirement? Maybe a steps challenge?

Or an alcohol cutdown? I’m only admitting this because of @FusionChefGeoff’s honesty (thank you for the courage) but I normally drink wayyyy too much Blush And I need to stop.

Covid10lbs · 27/04/2021 23:25

Flowers Best wishes, whichever you decide Anglinski. I won't add further advice as you have plenty there to mull over.

Food: well I skipped B after eating like a hungry ploughman last night.
B. Creamy coffee
L Tub of Aldi prawns in MarieRose sauce, with a bag of leaves.
5 o clock snack. Chicken skewer with coles
Dinner, chicken breast, creamy sauce, leeks and green beans
Protein bar 2g carb.

I'm not sure if the protein bar will have to get the heave ho. I'll see what the scales say.

venusandmars · 27/04/2021 23:50

@Angliski you posted find it hard to eat animal protein at every meal but why do you feel the need to do that?

When I eat breakfast I often have avocado with olive oil, tomatoes, basil (or I might have that for lunch with a much bigger heap of salad)

I might have broccoli, nut and cheese salad for lunch (accepting that cheese is animal protein) or something with eggs

Might have a vegetable curry with coconut cream for dinner.

Whatever way I'm eating (diet or no diet) I'd usually have a couple of days a week that are predominantly veg based, a couple of days that include meat, and some days that include fish (fresh sea bass or salmon / tinned mackerel, tuna, sardines).

Can you find a set of meal plans that work for you?

BIWI · 27/04/2021 23:54
@Chunkymonkey123 I love genmai cha. It’s green tea with roast rice in. Very nutty.

Also yogi tea choco mint, pukka women’s blend and yesterday o had cacao and coconut roobosch from sainsburgers.

I admit, today I ate half a crumpet and a handful of bruschetta chips. I’m sulking because I just don’t think this woe works for me with weight loss, so I crumbled a bit. Beef ribs on chilli and rosemary marinade for dinner with a crunchy side salad. I’m a bit torn about what to do, I want to stay in bc but I don’t think life without pulses and eating so much flesh is my thing... and it certainly isn’t reflecting on the scales. Any advice anyone?
@Angliski I'm sorry you're finding it so tough. However, as @nowlook has pointed out, there have been little cheats along the way - but despite that, you have lost a couple of pounds since we started

... but I also need to point out that we're only on week 3! I don't really think you've given Bootcamp a fair chance, to be honest.

But I appreciate there's a lot going on for you right now, so maybe you just need to accept that now isn't the time for dieting?

That said, I know you also want to lose weight, so what's your plan going to be if you walk away from Bootcamp?

Pub meal out (for dh's retirement party) was pretty much OK and had lemon and thyme chicken legs with salad (donated the chips to other people). But I did have a very small piece of chocolate and banana cake. It was indeed a very small piece because I've not got a sweet tooth and don't particularly like cake. Plus it was all eaten outside and it was very cold (6 degrees with a very cold wind) and I reckon that I've shivered away a couple of pounds!)

Tomorrow is dh's birthday.
B - coffee
L - seafood salad (prawn cocktail, smoked salmon, salmon and cream cheese pate, anchovies) then strawberry sundae (with the first of the British strawbs) - layered meringue and cream for others, just cream for me.
D - the moussaka we didn't eat on Monday!

TeddingtonTrashbag · 28/04/2021 06:04

Morning, Teds - it's in the rules - no.6 on the 'Bootcamp Rules' tab on the spreadsheet
Ooooh thanks!!!!! @nowlook and @AthelstaneTheUnready
This is difficult st work (teacher) as no time to wee but am going to have to sort it somehow!!!!!!

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2021 06:22

colouring what an awful situation! I had never heard of paralysis arising from trauma, in years of working in DV. Poor lad, and poor you.

I am stiff of ankle as I went in to the office yesterday and walked London Bridge to Mile End Road. Did much better with water but v bad on veg. Trains are filling up, though, and it felt quite uncomfortable sometimes. Not looking forward to our return to greater office time.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 28/04/2021 06:38

So grateful for this thread / lovely supportive people!!! Makes it much easier to keep the rules.Yesterday had s horrible class who hate me and just came our of it and said to a colleague -I really need chocolate. She actually had sone in her desk and offered it to me but I declined as would have had to shamefully admit it here! The positive influence of kindly strangers! Thanks y’all!!!

Timetobuckup · 28/04/2021 06:48

Good morning all

Work is bonkers at the minute but I am managing to keep on track.
Like a few of you I definitely reach for a drink at the end of too many days but I have found breaking the habit over the last couple of weeks has really helped. I have decided that I am going to stick to wed, fri, sat if I really want a drink I can but the other days are off limits. And luckily I prefer a long GnT or vodka , lime and soda to wine anyway.

Today my plan is
B-Eggs and mushrooms
L- left over meatballs
D- not sure but probably something with chicken
And all of the water of course!

Oneborneverydecade · 28/04/2021 07:16

I'm still running @BIWI although I'm a week or two behind you. It's harder to fit in now DS1 is back at his sport. I'm going to sign up for a 10k in July though Shock

Also I bought the book so thanks for the recommendation. I also find it useful to read more about this woe

@colouringindoors what a crap situation, I feel for you both. My ex was an alcoholic but fortunately got dry before DS1 was old enough to be affected. The drink and cigarettes contributed to his early death unfortunately - which has obviously affected DS1.

@Angliski I'm going to have a look at uberbc now too

Oneborneverydecade · 28/04/2021 07:19

@Timetobuckup I don't usually drink but had 2 g&ts Mon evening and almost all my resolve went out the window. If it wasn't for DH running interference I'd have eaten a large portion of bakewell tart. I think you must have an iron will if you can drink and not eat badly!

Oneborneverydecade · 28/04/2021 07:20

Forgot to say: we're off to Arundel for the tulips today - on the first day of rain for a month or so

Bestbees · 28/04/2021 07:30

Morning all.
@OnceUponAMidnightBeery I am up for a May challenge. How about 'move it may'? At least 10,000 steps? Or 15/30 mins movement? People can chose their own parameters.

No snacking means I feel emptier this morning, but not hungry. Scales down a bit, so that is e couraging and I know snacking needs to go more permenantly.

Plan for today
Lunch broccoli and cheddar soup, 2 boiled eggs.
D pork chilli with cauli rice, sour cream, avo and probably more cheese. Greek yog with flaxseeds.

Exercise:try to squeeze a run in amongst the rain.

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2021 07:33

How does Arundel compare to (say) Nymans or Wakehurst? It's a bit of a trek for us, plus we are NT, is it worth the extra?

I have always resented the idea of Arundel, because my primary school did a trip there for one year group every year, but we never got to go. I sat and listened to so many ecstatic renditions of our amazing trip to Arundel, but our turn never came.

Maybe I should bury this decades-long resentment of a place I have never been.

Bert is 52.

Elpheba · 28/04/2021 07:36

I’m very guilty of lurking this time around and although I started with all good intentions on the 12th- we went away for the weekend and it took me a while to climb back on the wagon. But I did, and have been back to it for a few days and finally weighed myself this morning. I’m the same as I was on the 12th- which I’m actually pleased about as it certainly better than weighing more!
Did well with water yesterday so will aim to keep that up today. Good luck everyone!

Bestbees · 28/04/2021 07:36

Oh and forgot to say, love all the tea chat and tea schedules. I am the same.
First thing a cuppa with almond milk
At work black coffee
Then herbal all day (usually yogi tea)
After work a cup of early grey with almond milk
Herbal after tea (kids join in with this one)
Grin

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2021 07:50

Tea! I have an insulated tea pot which I cart up 2 flights to the desk morning and afternoon (I drink it black.) Clipper Earl grey(plastic free!) in the morning, and tick tock Earl Grey rooibos (also plastic free) in the afternoon.

Fancy Bird and Blend loose leaf at the weekend, it has a bit of vanilla, and cornflowers in the blend to make it pretty!

Pleaseandthankyou · 28/04/2021 07:54

@Angliski some other ideas. A typical day for me would be 2 eggs mashed with butter for breakfast. I take a low carb roll to work for lunch. You can fill it with whatever you fancy that’s low carb. That is enough and I am not hungry. I make a pot of veg curry, I use Greek yoghurt not coconut milk, and I would have that a couple of nights in a row. No alcohol and lots of different teas. If I keep to this regime I lose. When I sneak in carbs I don’t . My breakfast and lunches don’t really vary. Dinner can be more meat based. I deliberately halved the portion of dinner I was about to have last night. It was enough. I would have enjoyed more but I decided to leave it for another day. I find I am eating though boredom and the expectation that it is right time of day rather than hunger. Good luck whatever you decide.

Rshard · 28/04/2021 08:00

Morning

I’m up for a moving in May challenge, onceuponamidnightbeery and bestbees. I need something to get me away from the desk and out of the house.

Timetobuckup · 28/04/2021 08:10

@Oneborneverydecade we are going on Saturday , so annoying the weather has turned.
I am actually ok about the resolve while I am drinking as long as I only have a couple. The issue has always been having too many and then diving into carbs the morning after.
@OnceUponAMidnightBeery and @Bestbees another one up for a challenge here.

Random789 · 28/04/2021 08:22

I'd be up for a 'moving in May' challenge. Now that my old dog has died I have been alarmed a couple of times by gtting towards the end of the day and realising that I haven't left the house at all.

I've really enjoyed the gym being open again, and I do go running a couple of times a week, but I need something additional to make sure I do something active every day. I'd like to set a target of at least having a 30 min brisk walk on non-gym, non-running days.

Doilooklikeatourist · 28/04/2021 08:42

@colouringindoors 💐

Really struggling this Bootcamp , I think it’s because of going back to work ( quick recap , we thought we’d sold our business and would be able to retire , sale fell through , so we keep going ) and obviously there are lots of mixed emotions which makes me reach for cheese ( good ) and wine ( not so good )
Will have a break for a couple of weeks , and be back soon

Back to work on Monday , hopefully everyone will be pleased to see us still here 👍
