Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

@ListenLinda sorry about your uncle (and your hangover).

Also Thanks for you @AthelstaneTheUnready.

Jellycatspyjamas · 10/03/2021 09:03

So sorry for your loss @ListenLinda and @AthelstaneTheUnready - such a hard thing to go through.

prettybird · 10/03/2021 09:26

Funerals are sad at any time but doubly so during Lockdown, with restrictions on numbers on who can be there and the need to stay socially distanced Sad

cheeseisthebest · 10/03/2021 09:30

So sorry for your losses xx

@ListenLinda and @AthelstaneTheUnready Flowers

I’m sticking to the challenge and have been on my Exercise bike everyday, up to 21 mins now and have managed to close all the rings on my Apple Watch each day. Although I’m not really looking forward to walking the dog in the rain today.

Has anyone found that there weight went up a bit when they started to do more exercise, I am doing about 20 mins a day extra on top of my usual 10000 steps which includes a brisk dog walk most days.

Today
Greek yogurt
L soup homemade with low carb veg and some cheddar sprinkled on top
D salmon, flgv

BIWI · 10/03/2021 09:53

Sorry about the sadness/crying @ListenLinda and @AthelstaneTheUnready Flowers

I think the talk about falling off the wagon has scared @ruple away Sad which is a real shame.

Yesterday's chat, though, got me thinking about the whole issue of mindful eating.

Yes, it's true, that there will always be occasions when you want to go off piste. Sometimes there are occasions where there is no other option, so you have to pick you way through as best you can - or, frankly, just sit back and enjoy it.

However, it's important to recognise that mindful can quickly become mindless - carbs are hugely tempting, if not addictive, and it can be a slippery slope into carby twatdom, very easily.

This weekend it's Mother's Day, and at the end of the month it will be Easter. Many of you also have birthdays, or children's birthdays, or spouses' birthdays.

All of these are occasions seemingly inextricably linked with carbs. And it can be very hard to break that link. Sometimes you may not want to - which is fine. That's part of real life.

But for now, a gentle reminder that we're still on Bootcamp for another couple of weeks and therefore we should think twice before we go off piste!

Wise words as always BIWI.
I'm in a good place this week, another pound down so 10st. However I didn't have any fat with my dinner last night and woke up starving so had boiled eggs for breakfast.

Bestbees your hair advice (and everyone elses) has really helped, going to think more about cgm and my hair looking good this week!
Novelty of the school run is wearing off, all very tired today.

StuntNun · 10/03/2021 11:36

Spooks exercise can cause water retention, especially if it leaves you feeling sore the next day. So it can easily put your weight up a couple of pounds.

I hope not- posters were all congratulatory on the impressive loss so far and, I think, offered lots of support and suggestions. Ruple did say she wasn't really into social media, which I took to mean she doesn't come on here every 5 minutes unlike us

Anyhoo, Flowers for ListenLinda and Athelstane. Still watching my wobbly tummy here and washing my hair every verse's end because I have a demi-colour on it which must disappear before hairdressers reopen because she'll batter me Grin

Sorry for those of you with work stress. Mine's OK at the moment, but tends to vary from day to day!

Lamb and leek hotpot for supper, so looking forward to that very much.

nowlook · 10/03/2021 12:11

Actually BIWI, I often wonder what the form is for giving a general shout out to those who have slipped off the thread? I can think of several from this BC (and I know this happens every time) that have disappeared and that I hope are OK, whether or not they're on the wagon, off the wagon or somewhere in between!

LittleMy77 · 10/03/2021 12:18

@BIWI that’s been my biggest shift in BC; trying to move to mindful eating instead of mindless grazing and emotional response eating.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 10/03/2021 12:29

I've been interested in the comments on abstainers and moderators. I think I used to be an abstainer but am now a moderator. I do have ADHD and can be impulsive in my choices, but it's been many years since I binged in any way. I hadn't really realised how much I've shifted until now!

nowlook · 10/03/2021 13:21

On this basis, I should be wafer-thin Stunt Grin
Oddbutnotodd · 10/03/2021 13:22

I’m a bit of a lurker on these threads but thanks to BIWI and others I have managed to lose 4.9 kg since the beginning of the year. I suspect I have ADHD and am impulsive. Despite having a diagnosed eating disorder many years ago, I have managed to overcome an all or nothing approach to my diet. I’m happy to effectively do boot camp light and lose weight slowly.
I’ve worked out that it may take me another 2 or 3 months to get to my target but that’s no hardship while we’re still in lockdown with limited social contact.

OverweightPidgeon · 10/03/2021 13:32

That’s fantastic @Oddbutnotodd , well done xx

TubbyUnicorn · 10/03/2021 13:48

I just found this board, I did not know a bootcamp for this existed. I am trying to go keto (for degenerative neurological reasons and weight loss reasons), and, I was just wondering if there would be another boot camp running after this, or if it is OK to jump onto this one please?

I see it takes a lot of work to run and organise - I hope you don't mind but I have looked through all the resources.

ShagMeRiggins · 10/03/2021 13:50

Water chestnuts are my new best friend for crunch. That is all.

(No it’s not—it never is with me Hmm—I also wanted to add thanks to everyone who has PM’d for the Free Style Zoom and to let you know to look in your emails tomorrow, especially Junk in case your systems dare to sideline me how very dare they .)

nowlook · 10/03/2021 13:56

Hello @TubbyUnicorn
I think the next bootcamp starts on 12th April. Each one runs for 10 weeks. That said, there's no time like the present if you want to start now. Some of us never really move on from strict BC in the first two weeks to BC light for the remaining eight and we're all at different stages, so you'll find people to talk to!

(and, I agree, BIWI gives a lot of herself as do Athelstane and StuntNun. And prettybird and Ninkanink. I'd be rubbish if I were called upon to give an Oscars acceptance speech. Anyway, loads of amazing women. Patience of Job, the lot of them)

ZiggZagg · 10/03/2021 13:57

Welcome tubbyunicorn!

Yes, feel free to jump on this one, the next one starts in April, I think! But we always chat in between and keep each other on board!

Just browse through all the resources and get cracking and do post if you have any questions, we're a lovely bunch!

BIWI · 10/03/2021 13:58

You're very welcome to join us, @TubbyUnicorn - and soon you'll have to change that name!

The next Bootcamp is starting on 12 April, designed to finish just in time for us all to rush out of our houses in June when lockdown restrictions are lifted.

But even if there's not an active Bootcamp running, we always keep a chat thread going, and many people do continue between Bootcamps. Hopefully this will work for you.

Just a word of caution though - we aren't keto here. There's no daily restriction on the number of carbs (beyond the general advice to keep them low!). Just follow Bootcamp rules and it will be fine.

BIWI · 10/03/2021 13:59

@nowlook - if people disappear from the threads I generally leave them to it - unless I feel that they've got the wrong end of the stick, or I've offended them in some way.

I know that we have many lurkers, and if people want to lurk rather than post it's obviously their prerogative.

I have, on occasions, sent PMs to check that those disappearing are OK, but I prefer not to do that - I'm not their mum or headmistress after all Smile

Sage advice BIWI. I don't want to appear like some massive stalker either. I just remember on an earlier bootcamp almost feeling like I couldn't come back because I'd dropped off the thread (and indeed the plan). Utterly ridiculous, of course. Pure projection in wondering if some feel the same this time around, so will mentally move on Grin
