Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

Today's earrings: dangly gold leaves that my dad gave me for my 50th. He always told mum and me that he didn't like dangly earrings as he thought that they were tarty - but because he knew we like them, did often get us dangly ones Grin

I'm dressed up for a fancy (virtual) meal that we are having with friends around the cooking. We've shared the cooking and delivered our respective contributions earlier today

@BIWI I just meant because I'm eating so much of it. Like, I ate at least 400g today. That's a lot... Though to be fair, a lot of the fat renders out when cooking so it won't weigh the same after. But anyway, I shall take that as permission to keep eating all the pork belly! The skin was removed by the butcher when I said I will be cutting it into small bitesized pieces. I struggled to cut through it with the skin on before. But for proper lumps of it, I'd absolutely keep the skin.

I bought flax meal/ground linseed on Amazon after seeing a recipe that used it in a kind of dough (forgotten who posted that Spanakopita?). Does anyone use it for anything else? Is it useful? I will make DH eat it on his muesli, if not!

nowlook · 09/03/2021 18:48

What a lovely idea prettybird. Yours sounds a very sophisticated life!

StuntNun · 09/03/2021 18:52

Ragz flaxseed is good for all kinds of low carb bread alternatives. It gives me terrible bloating though - must be too much fibre. If you're doing the Curly Girl method then you can also make it into hair gel!

ZiggZagg · 09/03/2021 18:56

Well I made it to the end of the day! I've been so hungry but I know that's what a week of carbs does to you!!

B Greek yoghurt
L SLCR with sliced beef, cucumber and celery and lots of butter
D Mixed Meat Grill and salad with olive oil dressing

Haven't done all the water though, must try harder tomorrow!

kilojules · 09/03/2021 19:09

Sorry forgot to post weight in for yesterday. 177 could someone kindly update on spreadsheet as cannot access for some reason many thanks

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/03/2021 19:14

Had a good food day , but a lousy stress / worry day
( Top tip ... don’t try and sell a business and buy a house in a pandemic )
B mushroom and cheese omlette
L homemade leek and courgette soup
D Pan fried salmon fillet , celariac dauphinois, broccoli and more mushrooms
Loads of water , lots of coffee and not many steps !
I did manage a minute and 12 second plank though
@prettybird , wow , how lovely , we’ve had zoom drinks , but not dinner
@ruple how about steak , or chicken escalope with loads of green veg and a creamy sauce , followed by whipped double cream with some strawberries mixed through ( Elton mess without the meringue ) as a birthday meal ?

*I think it was someone on here last bootcamp to said a thing that i think made something click for me.

Some people are moderators and some people are abstainers. Moderators can eat one of something and stop, Abstainers can't. I realised that i'm an abstainer after that and have stopped falling off the wagon as a result. I fell off the wagon at christmas (deliberately) and then climbed onto the wagon behind it that was full of chocolate and pasta. Two weeks later i fell off THAT one 8lb heavier. Sooo this bootcamp i'm sticking with it until goal. One stone(ish) to go.*

That’s really helpful for me, I definitely need to abstain - I start of being being able to moderate and then slowly but surely I find every meal has carbs, bread, sugar and before I know it the weights piling on again and I’m main lining biscuits 3 times a day.

I’m the lowest weight I’ve been in years and feel healthier so keeping going feels easy. And my food is fab, what’s not to like.

ouchmyfeet · 09/03/2021 19:43

I love those earrings @prettybird.

I spend a lot of time with a headset on for work, would love to wear earrings more often but they just stick into my neck when I have the headphones on Sad.

Leftovers for me at lunch (minced beef with buttered cabbage) and then more minced beef for tea as we had the mild curry from the recipe thread. Others with rice, me with Cauli rice and spinach. Homemade raita (Greek yoghurt, finely diced cucumber and fresh mint) finished it off beautifully

Tomorrow I plan not to have minced beef for the first time since Saturday Blush

There's a lovely recipe for low carb granola on the vegetarian recipe thread that uses flax seed.

I'm also an abstainer, I've failed time and time again trying to moderate my eating.

I was ordering Easter eggs from hotel chocolat for DH and the kids today. It's my birthday at Easter and I was SO tempted to order something for myself as an Easter/birthday/end of bootcamp treat. I had it in the shopping basket and everything. I'd even topped it up with extra chocolate to get up to the spend £50 to get a tenner off. I was sitting there looking at the basket, persuading myself that I could make that box of 12 chocolates last for weeks, and then telling myself that the kids would eat the extra top up ones and I wouldn't touch them, but something just clicked and I thought back to some of the prompts/challenges that @BIWI has made (in the kindest and most supportive way) on this thread in the last couple of days.

Chocolate for me out of the basket, 3 eggs ordered for other members of the family, and a warning issued to DH and kids not to buy me chocolate for either mother's day or my birthday. BOOM.

Now I just have to stick to it! At least I have taken the first step by removing temptation as far as I can. They won't share their chocolate with me Wink

BIWI · 09/03/2021 19:55

I'm very impressed @ouchmyfeet! Grin

B: Greek yoghurt with flaxseed mix
L: celeriac and leek soup with nduja, cheese and lettuce wrap with mayo
D: Roast broccoli with butter poached chicken breast, garlic, pak choi and lardons. Some parmesan on top and a drizzle of cream.

Had a big, ahem clear out today. The Lidl super seed mix is doing the trick. Going to keep going with it, despite eating a lot of veg things weren't shifting like they should be.

cheeseisthebest · 09/03/2021 20:09

I'm impressed too ouchmyfeet and I am exactly the same!
I have a five pound hotel chocolat voucher and might use it to get Easter choc for the kids. Wont get much though!

Today I fasted until 12 then had very buttery scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and avocado. Then nothing until just now when I've only just had my tea which was massaman curry with cauli rice and lots of veg.
Had all the water plus 2 coffees and 1 tea.
Also met a friend for a walk for an hour.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 09/03/2021 20:57

I did buy a 70% cocoa Easter egg (Lidl) which I told DH we can split, though he didn't look impressed and will probably want a proper one. I was hoping could make it last a while. It's very pretty (it has a cat on).

Midlifemission · 09/03/2021 21:12
@Midlifemission I had a few times when my scales said that and I think it was because I was getting off them too soon. I now wait until the weight has 'blinked' and then re-appeared, this seems to work as before when it asked if it was me, not all the data came up on my phone.
Thanks for this I will give it a try tomorrow it is possible I leap off to quickly as everyone knows you are a bit lighter if you move fast!

Had a NSV today as I saw my DSis for an outdoor meet up and she was so surprised by my new 'slim persona ' (her words) even better was she was asking me all about low carb as someone who has tried SW loads of times but always falls off the wagon , I may convert her yet!

cheeseisthebest · 09/03/2021 22:27

Great NSV!

I've realised I accidentally sounded like a 3 year old in my last post!

It's this one. Spanakopita https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/lchf/5-ingredient-keto-spanakopita

They can also be used for making tortilla wraps.

I sprinkle them on yoghurt and used to add to smoothies before BC days.

And if they've gone past their sell by date home made hair gel Grin

70% cocoa!! I would have spat it out back in the days! I bet it will taste lush now Grin everything remotely sweet tastes lush! Might get me some
RagzReturnsRebooted · 10/03/2021 00:11

Thanks @kilojules I may attempt that recipe tomorrow.

ListenLinda · 10/03/2021 02:19

For the first time this year, today I had some gin. It was my uncles funeral and gosh it was so tough. I had four in total and blumming heck I can’t drink anymore! Straight to the head and felt crap and bloated to boot.
Woke up an hour ago and still feel rubbish and know that I’ll probably see a gain on the scales next few days.
So i’ll be going strict bootcamp from now until the end of this one and hope I reach my first milestone despite my alcoholic set back.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 10/03/2021 07:41

Sorry about your uncle, Linda Flowers

I feel a bit swollen today, and that's definitely the result of funeral crying, TOtM, and lots of ibuprofen (but no gin here, it makes me ill normally, never mind low carbing).

Fortunately I have lots of lovely work stress to provide distraction. Hmm

ListenLinda · 10/03/2021 08:00

I think the fact that I ate very little before the funeral didn’t help. Just had some sausage and scrambled eggs and going to smash the water today.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 10/03/2021 08:07

Biggest sympathies, @AthelstaneTheUnready and @ListenLinda.
