Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

True. For example, my draft legislation is hitting some snags.

What shall I do? BOIL IT IN ACID

You're right - it works.

Thanks, @nowlook - last year I planted asparagus, so that's the only thing to make me pull faces from that list. Can't harvest until next year though, so.

AWryGiraffe · 11/03/2021 20:42

Glad it's not just me who suffers from celeriac!! It's so nice though. Artichokes look vile, one of the few veg I can't bring myself to eat.

Lunch today was SLC bread with cheese and raw spinach. Dinner was soya tikka strips fried with cabbage, kale, mushrooms and leeks.

Bouncing around the same weight for ages and ages now. Come on whoosh!

I also suffer with draft legislation, @AthelstaneTheUnready. Have my sympathy.

@BIWI yes, the pain was the worst. No idea why it hit that one time though as we are regular consumers of the fartichokes without the same dramatic results.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 11/03/2021 20:46

@nowlook

Well they look suspicious Daily. You can keep your fartichokes.

Please, please, please let this be about net carbs. I love how calm and measured BIWI is when those crop up...

I was thinking similar. I have a feeling The Powers that BIWI will frown on the inulin theory. I haven't ever eat a Jerusalem Artichoke. Now I don't want to!
BIWI · 11/03/2021 20:48

Trust me, those fartichokes will never pass my lips ever again!

Ever noticed had a problem with celeriac - and I've never tried Jerusalem artichoke Wink

I do however use inulin in some desserts: primarily to top low carb creme brûlée as it caramelises well and to sweeten the lime cream when I'm making a low carb version of Nigella's Marguerite Cake (so really an icing sugar substitute).

As far as I'm aware, dh, ds and my dad haven't noticed any deleterious side effects Wink, while enjoying a low carb dessert Grin

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 11/03/2021 21:16

I love fartichokes: they just taste like roasted cream.

It really is true about the farts though. Pant-rippers.

ShagMeRiggins · 11/03/2021 21:19

With apologies, email for free style fat coming tomorrow. Today got away from me.

Ninkanink · 11/03/2021 21:20

Oh yes they’re quite delicious. And there are several more gorgeous sounding recipes in my Diana Henry books that I really want to try...

But if/when I do I’ll definitely be researching the best way to ensure as little pain as possible!

BIWI · 11/03/2021 21:21

I have enough free style fat, thanks very much ...

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/03/2021 21:30

Christ, it's not exercise related is it?

ouchmyfeet · 11/03/2021 21:31

This is a perfect example of a time when it's hard to jump back on the thread Confused. It's great though, very entertaining. Couple of days of staying the same for me, hoping for a whoosh over the weekend. Food today was okay, doner meat with FLGV for lunch and sausage stroganoff with another FLGV for tea.

Off work tomorrow so may do some batch cooking in preparation for next week

And yet - you're here! Grin

Tell me more about this sausage stroganoff - I have a load in the freezer I need to use up.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 11/03/2021 21:42

Oh, btw, thank you for such a generous offer @ShagMeRiggins !

I really don't have it in me to care what I look like atm though. As long as I don't smell.

Much.

BIWI · 11/03/2021 22:00

Thankfully smell doesn't transfer via zoom, @MilesJuppIsMyBitch Smile

@AthelstaneTheUnready I bought the sausage planning to do a stroganoff recipe that I'm SURE I read on here. I think it was one of the bootcamp threads but when it got to tea time I couldn't find it anywhere so google came to my rescue.

I fried an onion for 5 minutes, added garlic and mushrooms and a large chopped smoked sausage. Cooked it through and added paprika, sour cream and a squeeze of lemon just before the end. I had it with leeks, courgette and spinach. Everyone else had pasta.

It wasn't a massive hit to be honest. We all ate it but when asked if I should make it again it was a resounding no thanks!

ShagMeRiggins · 11/03/2021 22:33

I have enough free style fat, thanks very much ... Grin
Of all the typos...! Not even sure what I meant to type.

Will be refreshed tomorrow Grin

Dailyhandtowelwash · 11/03/2021 22:34

Life went a bit wrong this evening as DH had had a pig of a day and we ended up getting a Chinese takeaway as nowhere else was still serving. I had bits of a lettuce wrap (chopped pork, carrot and something else, in what I suspect was a slightly sweet sauce) and egg foo yung - about half of each. The only disaster was some boneless ribs which said they were dry but came in I think a light coating that was NOT carb free. I sinned. But on the whole it feels pretty good to have had a Chinese takeaway and not feel remotely bloated.

ruple · 11/03/2021 22:42

Hi @BIWI and everyone, I am here not scared away at all! Just caught up with all posts. I did type out a whole big reply yesterday which I then lost before posting so I was a bit cross Grin

I hope I didn't offend anyone with the sad and lame comment, I think it was misunderstood, I definitely don't find this way of eating sad and lame, I'm absolutely loving it. Just a bit fearful of bootcamp finishing just before my birthday! Birthday cake has always been a massive trigger food for me taking me straight into bingeing. So I have decided to stay on bootcamp over my birthday as I'm just not ready yet to trust myself with any carbs at all.

Thank you all for your helpful comments! I don't find this group cliquey at all I think it's fab. I just feel guilty that I don't have much to contribute!

FusionChefGeoff · 11/03/2021 23:10

@BIWI hmmmm ok. Should I try an electrolyte drink too?? I've already started hot salt drinks Envyplus have a huge pot of fresh lemon tea (1/2 lemon sliced) most days.

Bread is my absolute binge trigger - is there anything else that you'd recommend as a safe-ish carb boost instead as I'd rather avoid it if I can.

BIWI · 11/03/2021 23:12

@FusionChefGeoff if you're having palpitations, then yes definitely. I'd also increase your carbs slightly for a few days to make sure that they stop. If you don't want to do bread, then maybe add in some more veg/slightly more carby veg?
