Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 8 - the last three weeks!

BIWI · 08/03/2021 07:45

Morning all.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Hope it's been a good week - lots of challenges going on! I challenged myself to cook something different with cauliflower yesterday as I was getting bored of the same old same old, and so found a recipe for Bang Bang cauliflower, which I adapted slightly to make it more low carb friendly. I shall post that later.

In the meantime, I hope that the scales or the measuring tape have been kind to you!

Here's to a good next week. Remember we only have three left, so if things are slacking a bit, time to get stricter again.

Thanks - I've been missing beetroot so can add that to my salads and I've got some plain coconut yoghurt that's 6g per 100g maybe swap that for my usual Greek yoghurt tomorrow?

BustleInYourHedgerow · 12/03/2021 05:13

Thanks athelstane and ninkanink. I do feel better today.

@BIWI OK. The toast sounds very tempting...but I'm worried it would affect weight loss. I'm also worried I would start eating it and not stop. Do you think I could get away with trying an electrolyte supplement? Will have a look online for that zero one .

Morning everyone! I have been trying to keep up with the thread this week but with the funeral and work is really busy it’s been a bit hard to juggle everything.
Also, we have had a break through with DS sleep!
Little monkey has always been a co sleeper but as you are all aware we had some issues a few weeks ago with the wakings....
Well, we got DD a single bed and put DS in her toddler bed in our room. For the last two nights he has gone into his bed at 8pm and stayed there until 11-12ish and then come in with me & DH and stayed there until 5/6am! I feel like a new woman! Whats that saying about sleep begets sleep or something? Two full nights sleep and im falling into bed at 8.30pm Blush
Anyway, i’m very much on plan and the water is also ticking along nicely. Lost 1lb on monday and the scales said ive lost another 0.5lb so far this week but will just weigh once a week and not get too annoyed about it!
DH is on lates for the next three days so only me and the kids to sort out which should make evening meals a bootcamp doddle!
KOKO everyone Flowers

MrsOmelette · 12/03/2021 07:30

3lb down for me this week! And in TOTM week too; very pleased. So that’s 21 lbs in 9 weeks!! I have been very strict this week, good motivator to do more of the same.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/03/2021 07:43
@AthelstaneTheUnready I bought the sausage planning to do a stroganoff recipe that I'm SURE I read on here. I think it was one of the bootcamp threads but when it got to tea time I couldn't find it anywhere so google came to my rescue.

I fried an onion for 5 minutes, added garlic and mushrooms and a large chopped smoked sausage. Cooked it through and added paprika, sour cream and a squeeze of lemon just before the end. I had it with leeks, courgette and spinach. Everyone else had pasta.

It wasn't a massive hit to be honest. We all ate it but when asked if I should make it again it was a resounding no thanks!
Ah, will keep searching for inspiration then, thank you for taking a hit for the team though. Wink

Nice to hear of potential losses this morning Halo

FusionChefGeoff · 12/03/2021 07:50

FFS I was 2.2lb down this week at weighing yesterday and now only 0.5lb down!! How can I 'put on' 1.7lbs in a day?

I'm drinking gallons and gallons of water and still on strict boot camp..

Ninkanink · 12/03/2021 07:57

It’s perfectly normal to have fluctuations - it’s obviously not going to be fat gained. You just have to ignore it and keep going and it will come off again (for good) at some point.

Pleaseandthankyou · 12/03/2021 08:37

@MrsOmelette that is fantastic. I have not been following strict boot camp as I am happy to maintain. I have found I am still losing weight but I am defaultly bootcamping. It’s become a habit. I discovered a while ago that the pleasure you get from something comes from the first or second bite. The pleasure doesn’t increase with the calories. My biggest challenge is persuading my DH to choose my favourite treat with his coffee so that I can have a bite 😀. I have a large square of chocolate every night but just one, never two. I cannot trust myself to apply this to bread. I will not be able to take one bite of sourdough. I don’t think it will work for alcohol either. I am keeping alcohol for weekends only.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 12/03/2021 09:20

I am 1lb up this morning, which is entirely normal for me, and suggests that my takeaway last night has not led to carb bloat. I'm really chuffed with myself as that suggests I can eat 'normally' but keep broadly within the rules.

@FusionChefGeoff I spend days or even weeks fluctuating between 1-3lbs of weight. It does eventually drop and then the dance with the next couple of pounds begins. It has been pretty slow downwards for me, but it's entirely normal to be up and down.

MrsOmelette · 12/03/2021 09:36

@Pleaseandthankyou thank you. You sound in a positive place able to control yourself with some carbs even if not all types, that’s great. I’m making lemon cheesecake with the children tomorrow for Sunday, will have to have right control not to scarf too much...my overeating is still there in the background sadly.

nowlook · 12/03/2021 09:41

Morning all! Nice start to the day with a 7.30am conference call...in French Hmm I was very GCSE oral, I'm afraid, but at least I now know how many bedrooms in everyone's house.

I have a general wimmin's question: I am losing inches everywhere (and I assume weight, but I don't weigh and will not until right at the end) APART from my bust. Is it possible that my boobs are just bigger than they used to be as a result of age? I was a 30D when I was at my happy weight and for quite a while afterwards. Now, I'm getting closer to a 30 band, but cup sizes are still more like an F. Or will those just be the last to go? This is a new one for me. For general info, I was last at my happy weight when I was 37 and I'm now 42.

prettybird · 12/03/2021 09:53

Nowlook - don't know if it's a function of age but that's definitely happened happening to me. Hmm

My band (under bust) measurement is progressively reducing in size, but my over bust measurement is stubbornly staying the same so my cup size keeps going up Confused

Dh isn't complaining Wink

nowlook · 12/03/2021 10:05

Maybe that's how it all ends prettybird. Suffocated in the night by ever- increasing boobs. 'twas the norks what done for her

I suppose they must get bigger with age. When I was little, all older women had shampoo and sets (shampoos and set?), pinnies and massive chests.

Try that first and see if it helps. In the meantime, have a hot drink with Oxo or Bovril or Marmite, or make up the salt/lemon solution @prettybird uses (sorry, you'll have to ask her for the quantities, because I always forget!)

@BustleInYourHedgerow

I've had a quick look at The Diet Doctor for advice, and he says the same - if you're hydrated and getting enough salt, then the next thing to do is to increase your carbs slightly. If you can't countenance bread, how about a tablespoon of rice with a meal, or some potato?

It's important that you try that asap, I think, so that we can rule out anything potentially more serious.

BIWI · 12/03/2021 10:29

@FusionChefGeoff if you read the post I linked to above, you'll also see that the other piece of advice is to stop the fasting and go back to three meals a day.

A quick post to shout about a 2.5lbs woosh! I was a bit discouraged this week as I'd got stuck weight wise despite doing strict BC for the last 2 weeks. Old me would have considered mainlining wine and crisps but it really is worth KOKO (funny that!)

Have been mostly lurking this bootcamp due to the fast pace of threads, work/homeschool stress and toddler sleep issues but wanted to share this morning...

BIWI · 12/03/2021 10:47

StuntNun · 12/03/2021 10:48

That happened to me as well NowLook. I think you just lose inches in different places at different times. It can be a nuisance as it's hard to get bras in large cup sizes. I'm a 28HH but often end up in a 30GG as some brands don't do small band sizes.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 12/03/2021 10:50

I have not enough boobage to start with, and they usually disappear pretty quickly when I lose weight, leaving me with a giant tummy still. Quite envious of the non-disappearing types!

Dreamqueen · 12/03/2021 11:39

Please can someone point me in the right direction for the cheese scone/muffin recipe? I thought I'd save it but can't find it now. TIA.

prettybird · 12/03/2021 11:44

I've taken a picture of the muffin recipe for ongoing use. Smile

prettybird · 12/03/2021 11:47

I make them in silicon muffin cases which means that I don't need to wait until they're cold to eat them Grin

I added oregano rather than chives/spring onions that last time, which was tasty. I've only made the cheesie version so far - haven't tried doing a "sweet" version.
